If I am on LineageOS 14.1 on my Le 2, do I have to flash AndroModX KERNEL or any other working kernel? (I haven't done it before when I was on stock ROM)

No not at all.
Moreover they don't have support for Lineage.

I am a big fan of lineage os. So i would love to see an official lineage os ROM for redmi 4 and 4x. Lineage os, please make it possible.

I used to use redmi 2, we don't have official kernel, we have a ported kernel and still managed to get official lineageos

Yes we had official kernel source from xiaomi, they released it with lollipop for redmi 2 prime

Try AEX or Pixel Experience, these are the most updated stable Pie roms for Le 2......some lesser knows are Liquid Remix and Arrow OS but update duration of these roms are questionable....
Currently on latest version of pixel experience and it sucks, kangmeng kernel is working fine but gcam (by dise) is not working.
I need a stable rom for daily use and long screen on time, possibly also a great kernel paired with a gcam.
Any help is appreciated.
Bliss rom without custom kernel. Its best Rom that I had. More than 220 Hrs without restarting for now
Derpfest is a very good and stable rom.
I use Agni kernel because it's the n'est custom kernel for Mi A2. It's a New phone with this kernel.
You can try AICP with Stock/Mystic kernel..

There is a fully working twrp and a MIUI based rom with some modifications we aspect aosp based roms.

the recovery is not fully functional, error on backup and restore and can't flash GSI on /system...and I can't find the rom you speak...
