Guys, agreeing my stupidity, I uninstalled the mentioned app, "Android System" while being a root user, the problem was I accidentally installed it over the same version, was backing it up from an app while I was backing up my Rom via Titanium Backup, know no one wants to hear this, but now, please I need it as a flash able zip because Odin is not helping its not detecting the cell even I have visited a local shop for software assistance. I'm doomed. I just want to wake it up, I loved it. I can use it as a 3G Hotspot for now, but please let me know if someone can help.

I am not sure what i did! as u can tell i am a noob
i just got the samsung captivate and found this site, i rooted the phone thanks to xda! i wanted to remove voice dialer from the phone, as it sucks.
so i went in to root uninstaller and since i never used it before didn't recognize the screens yet. i somehow must of clicked on one of the apps/sys files and was in a page that had the 3 options, of backup, grant, and uninstall. i tried to go back but it didn't work, i pressed grant permission and nothing happened, i then pressed uninstall and only then realized i should of pressed backup first! the thing is i have no idea what i uninstalled! all i saw was something if i remember correctly with preconfig. in the name. anyone have any idea what i did?! i checked the phone and later rebooted and tried texting, calling all seems OK. but i do not know if i did something.
please help this noob.....
sorry you just dont have enough information for ANYONE to fix you without listing every single file..
to be safe and avoid problems:
just flash to stock. only use Odin-one-click if you are ATT. use Odin3 1.7 with proper stock flash otherwise.
I rooted my wifes captivate with superoneclick and tried to get it to allow non market apps and it keeps saying it failed. so i went in with an db editor and changed the 0 to a 1 as the instructions say. When i try to go into titanium back up and restore her contacts it says the phone is set to not allow non market apps. wife is pretty up set can anyone please help
Please use more descriptive thread titles.
i think it is pretty descriptive i need help. now if someone would please give me some suggestions to try instead of being a hole about it that would be nice
i agree your thread title sucks, but in Titanium Backup, have you clicked on menu, more, reload application?

I will tell you what i think... first off that kind of language is not allowed on the forums and you can easily get banned for it. and seccond go into settings/ applications/ development and tick off unknown sources. also if all you have done is root her contact app will not be gone

ATT captivates do not have 'unknown sources' option on stock roms.......thank you ATT
that option is not there ive have already looked. i have the htc inpire and it does. i tried to reload the app and that did not work. when i rooted it first all her info was there. when i tried to flash a rom thats when it went south. i couldnt get it to the screen i needed so i clicked on clear data and thats when i wiped her info on the phone. i had previously backed up her info with titanium backup so that i could restore the info. froyo is running on her phone as well. since the stock rom does not allow non market apps. can i get help with flashing a rom. when i boot into recovery and try to flash i just get the first screen i cant get to the screen needed to flash. ive tried flashing CWM and it says it is successful but when i try to reinstall packages it keeps saying its aborted and will not proceed. any thoughts on this issue? i edited my first post sorry. i just hate people who are cynical and dont give any suggestions.
lets do this again today:

I have a g1 that I rooted using universal androot, I decided to uninstall myfaves and was unaware that it somehow affected contacts. Afterward I performed a restore to my phone, thinking it was going to help but now I'm stuck in the google welcome screen and the welcome app crashes every time it gets to sync and I cannot get past the welcome screen. I know it was a stupid thing to do, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Can you go into Recovery mode?
Yeah, I can get into recovery mode. I also used the hard reset (alt + w), the sign in still crashes once it starts synching.
Try to restore nandroid

lol if you have a custom rom in and you remove an important app, doing a hard reset wont restore a custom rom... you have to either restore a nandroid/BART backup file (which means you needed to make the backup before you messed up the custom rom) or you need to re-flash the rom completely... which there are many guides and methods here on xda you can follow to properly flash roms, basic method is boot recovery, wipe data, cache, sd ext, etc..... than repair sd ext!!! than flash new rom.
Be sure you have the proper requirements needed for Rom! ex:
Radio=1.2.xxxxxx/2.22.xxxxx (many different ones)
hboot=0.95.xxx/1.3.xxxx (many different ones)
sdext=2,3 or 4 (some require none)
I will try it out, thank you.

another method to try (not garenteed) would be to unzip the rom on your pc, go to system/app folder and copy the fav5.apk file to root of sd card on your device. than go to market and download 'oi file manager' (or any type of file manager app) than flash the fav5.apk file that way.... make sure unknown sources is checked in settings/applications on device
Awesome thanks
Got it working!
I got it working. Just wanted to post the update, thank you guys for the help!!!
Hi everybody
I'm new to Android Mobile and I got my HTC ONE just recently. I have to say that I'm in love with it, finally something I can really use.
I would like to root my phone and I went through several doc/videos about how to unlock the boot loader and how to root it.
I feel quite confident to do that on my own (I know, I know... I'm a lady and usually this kind of stuff are for boys only... but I'll give it a try).
I have only few questions if you can help an not expert user as myself:
1. after root my HTC One, will my mobile able to receive software updates pushed from the vendor?
2. by reading the forum, my understanding is that some of the system apps will be removed (not big deal actually and I understand I can recover them in some way). However, will I be able to recover all the other apps installed, phone settings and the usual data from my backup? I do a daily backup of my phone via the system Backup & Restore utility which stored the data in DropBox.
Thanks a lot boys and I sorry for the silly questions. I did my best to search on my own but still a bit confused
When you unlock the bootloader, you eliminate all OTA updates. That is my understandin.
If you backup'd up with method X (whatever method that maybe), I dont see why you cant continue to use method X to restore your settings as well.
When i forgot got my phone, I unlocked and rooted immediately. I installed titanium backup (thats my method of choice), and transfered the content from my old phone and use titanium to restore everything.

1. Yes you will receive update notifications but depending on what recovery you have you might not be able to install the update until you go to stock recovery.
2. Yes you will be able to restore your data and it work rather well. Don't remember if it backed up the app data (settings for apps accounts save games etc....) and depending on your settings it may not backup pictures and videos so make a copy on a computer if you have pics you don't want to lose.

Let me start off by congratulating you on an excellent choice of phone!
In response to your questions, I havesome answers for you:
1. After unlocking the bootloader/rooting your phone, you will still be able to receive OTA updates. However, to actually install them you will have to relock the bootloader. Take care when installing OTA updates, as they may contain "fixes" that will disable re-unlocking the bootlader or rooting.
2. You should be able to recover all of your apps, settings, and data. Once rooted, I highly recommend Titanium backup for apps and data, and MyBackupPro for contacts, call logs, messages, and such.
Thank you guys, you are wonderful! I love u!!!
Last question then I promise I will not bothering anymore
I can see from the tutorial that once I've unlocked the boot loader I will need to use a recovery utility like TWRP.
I'm not going to install any custom ROM for now and I would like to keep the original one. The only thing that I really need is root privileges to rid off some apps that were installed by the carrier (which I hate), as well the carrier boot up logo animation.
So, for instance... I'm running at the moment the 1.29.841.2 software version.
Will the recovery process keep the phone on the same version or it will install a flat one without the updates?

Not bothering at all, that's what the forums are here for.
The recovery process will leave the phone on the same version that has been installed. All apps will need to be re-updated, but the system version will stay the same.

You're welcome!
just a quick heads up, be aware that unlocking your bootloader will wipe all of the data stored in your phone. Make sure to have a recent backup available.
Lots of useful info here, make sure to check it out: http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader

Good luck, hope you enjoy your HTC One
Not sure which tutorial you're using, I have found this one to be very thorough, written by a respected Rom developer
[GUIDE] Complete Flashing Guide | Rooting | Going Back To Stock | 05.05.2013

All good! I've successfully unlocked and rooted my device.
I've installed TWRP and made a backup (just in case).
Then restored all my data/apps.
Very happy thx again guys!
Any one else's note 4 asking for an update? Everything was working fine, now when I plug it in it acts as if I'm docking it for the first time. It's tells me connecting to server and then an update is needed. I have a Canadian note 4 running hyper rom with ael kernal 5.3. Thanks guys
You can always make a backup and then try the update... and if your a nice guy (hailing from Winterfell I'm sure you are), you'll share your experience here with your fellow northerners.
Lol. I did have a twrp backup. If I restore the whole thing it does work. Guess I can't let it update. I tried to delete all the related apk's and restore the individual apps through titanium but that didn't fix it. Had to restore the whole thing. Think the issue is gear vrsetup version 1.28. Version1.24 works. Hope this helps
