Official SW support - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I am considering buying this phone. For how long do you think it will be getting official SW updates?
How often are any minor/major updates currently with 3T/oneplus in general?
I can't use any custom rom as my company will not allow me to use Mobile Iron, so I have to stay on official ROMs only.

OnePlus rolls updates when necessary bugs fixes/new features.
No update schedule..

Oneplus send updates via email when there is any bug or fixes.

[Q] 8.1, dev or ATT update?

I just bought a lumia 925, through ATT. Comes with 8.0. Update isn't giving me 8.1 yet.
I am wondering about installing the dev 8.1 rather than wait for ATT to get around to offering it.
1. Any downsides to installing dev 8.1 rather than waiting for ATT's 8.1?
2. I am thinking that installing dev 8.1 may give me the whole op sys, rather than a hobbled version from ATT (eg, the ATT 8.0 has Data Sense removed). Might this be correct?
Dev and final version are usually the same, but once the official comes out, you will updated to the final end user version of 8.1, along with the Lumia cyan update. But, on the other hand, the official release is so close, a matter of days/weeks, might as well wait. Not sure if dev version has the data sense app, but if that's what you want, flash the preview. Doesn't matter in the end since you'll be updated to the current version either way. Just less hassle waiting for the official release.

I don't mind waiting (really, I am not finding 8.0 as much of a problem as I expected it to be after reading all the raves about 8.1).
My interest is mostly in getting all that functionality that wp 8.1 has, and not have some of it stripped if I wait for update through ATT. It is my understanding that Datasense, for example, was removed by ATT. Perhaps other features also. I don't know.
So, if I can get Datasense, and whatever else might be missing from ATT version, I'll go for the dev version. If the update through normal channels will be the same as going for the dev version I'll wait. (Again, assuming that I am not letting myself in for other problems by having the dev version)
I updated to 8.1 today. Install of developer app, then 3, 8.1 updates. An d yes, it has data sense.
So far so good. no problems.
Good for you, buddy

[Searching...] Custom-ROM with OTA updates and without Android Andoid Auto issues

Hi,
I am looking for a custom ROM for my father's Huawei P8 Lite 2017. It has to have OTA Updates and it must not have the well known Huawei-Android-Auto-Issues. Because it is for my father, it should run "out-of-the-box" with the mostly used functions (like camera, google apps etc.). I am going to be the one, who installs the ROM, but he will use it.
I was looking to LineageOS / CyanogenMOD, but nobody writes about the Android-Auto-Issues. These issues are the main reason for the wanted change from stock to custom ROM.
Which one can you recommend?
Greetings from Germany.
There are no official roms for this phone and no ota updates either. As far as I can tell development on nougat roms has stopped or slowed down significantly and I wouldn't expect any more updates. Oreo on the other hand is still in beta and roms are still in early builds so quite a few issues/stuff not working is to be expected. I would suggest flashing lineage 14.1, everything is working and it's been recently updated with april security patch but no more updates are coming.
Edit: CrDroid is official with ota updates
As far as OTA Updates, you have CrDroid, this has just been updated as an official ROM on CrDroid site, you just need to be on EMUI 8 in order to install that ROM
Although, I have no idea if it has any issues with Android Auto, but considering that its a Treble ROM, it might not have

Now that we're on an official pie release, are we finally project treble compliant?

And if so, can we finally expect faster security updates?
Easier updates to custom ROMs and/or a not so delayed update to Android Q would also be great, but at the very minimum, if we could get a faster pathway to important security updates, it would be a real sign of progress...

Best ROM Support?

For the roms which are currently available, which one will offer the most support and updates into the future? Pixel Experience or Havoc? Who will add the latest security patches? I would prefer to stick with 1 rom only and not change

If you're prepared to widen your options then Lineage OS will have absolutely the best support once it gets official status. They have by far the biggest team to maintain and update the OS. It has nightly builds and security patches added more or less as soon as they become available. This will be the case for as long as somebody is able/prepared to maintain it for this phone. There are 6/7 year old phones that are still maintained and are on the official roster of builds.
That's not to say that you can't get the same level of support on other ROMs, but if Lineage goes official for this phone, then you've got more of a guarantee on that level of support being maintained long term.
