It started to stop, I suppose, after helium backup app install (both on android and on pc).
Strangely, with link2sd app (I don't have it anymore), I could see the notification for MTP and also the device in explorer.
But only for 5-10 seconds. Then stop to work.
I recently updated (via full wipe) from RR lollipop rom to RR nougat rom with similiar faults (so the issue isn't there)
On windows 10 often says "unrecognized usb device", this seems fixed now.
If I connect the x compact before the sp, both are recognized - so I suspect is not a driver/hardware issue.
But when I try open sp from file explorer... well, I don't see anything lol
What can I try? :cyclops:

Repair your phone via Xperia companion, this will install the stock rom. After that check if everything is working fine, if so install RR or Lineage OS and check again.
Sent from my Xperia SP using Tapatalk
Thanks, I solved. And the rom wasn't corrupted at all (okay, maybe the old it was).
However I put a microsd in phone (when I did rom/gapps/recovery update), then I clicked twice on "new sd" notification and now it seems that the MTP is correctly recognized
Probably, this, gave to phone the missing parameters for connection

Hi,
I had earlier opened a thread regarding this issue. But that was having more than one query and was misleading.
I need to install Froyo JP6 (the official one - no custom ROMs). Currently I'm having JF3.
Kies is not working for me (The MTP application in the mobile opens up, but gets restarted while getting connected to kies, so kies is not recognizing my mobile).
How shall I install JP6 without Kies?
Is it possible to install from mobile itself? (like installing apk file?)
nandihno had told me to install using odin. But i couldn't find it in dev section. Can anybody provide me the link for odin foryo JP6?
Thanks in advance!
Install latest version of Kies - 1.5.3.10093_82.
You can go in setting and Upgrage..
Once the latest version is installed, go into Program Files - Samsung
Delete USD Drivers directory here.
Now go in Program Files - Samsung - Kies - USB Driver
Install the drivers from here.
Once the installation is complete, go to settings in SGS (Galaxy) and unmount Internal SD card.
Connect SGS using USB Key and wait till system detects your SGS.
Once it is done you can use Kies to upgrade to Froyo... However as of today Froyo is not out for India... though there are work around to fool Kies and still download, though I will suggest to wait...
thanks I will try this as well. Well this also work with my issue? I tried to upgrade my firmware using kies, but it failed because of some file missing. I installed kites again, and now it detects my phone when I connect it, but it never seems to make the connection
It just says that it is trying to connect and this goes on forever.
So now I cannot repair my firmware using kies. Can this solution help with that as well?

Same problem here. It detects my phone. But freezes in "connecting your device".
@shurdus - when this is happening (connecting ur device), did you notice your phone restarting the MTP application.
I mean, the MTP application will be displaying "installing kies" but after some time, it disappears and appears again in a fraction of a second..
I have to try the solution said by satyawali.
Another doubt - unmounting internal SD card will affect the data?

I have a similar problem. I just downloaded the newest version of Kies, but can't get Windows/Kies to recognize my phone. I unchecked "Automatically start monitoring for device..." and "Start Kies automatically..." in the Settings box, and I did the Driver Recovery and rebooted, all recommended in another thread. Still nothing. All I get is some very quick flashing of MTP Application and my home screen opening and closing. Then Windows (Win 7, 32 bit) tells me it couldn't do something and to contact the device manufacturer.
Have you found a solution?

I haven't found the solution yet.
I guess the only solution is to format the SD card and then try. But I'm not willing to do that So no froyo for me... If only there was an OTA or froyo installer it'd be great
1. Uninstall KIES
2. Uninstall "SAMSUNG USB Driver For Mobile Phones".
3. Reboot your PC
4. Brows to "Program Files" (windows 32bit) or "Program Files (x86)"(windows 64bit) and remove the folder "Samsung".
5. Run "regedit" from Command Prompt and look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and delete the "Samsung" folder.
6. Right click your C-drive and choose "Properties", click "Disk Cleanup" and check "Temporary Files" and hit "OK".
7. Install KIES and reboot your PC.
8. When booted, don't start KIES yet, just connect the phone and let windows install the drivers for it, unplug the device when done, start KIES and connect the phone.
That should work out for you..
^ thanks. gonna try it now. Will let u know
@[Ramad] - even this didn't work.
The problem is in the phone - i can clearly see it. I guess, a factory reset will do it. Is there any backup software that can backup including the application data/caches ?
isn't there a download link for the new and original Froyo? there are too many pages and it's quite hard to find what you want (I've found Froyo but not the original one, I think, and I've found plenty of advices for kies but I don't want to do all that unistall-delete traces-install again, when there's a simpler way with odin)
Kies problem is related to the ammound of MP3's on your SGS!
Because MTP is a MP3 player connection protocol it's using some MTP Windows media player driver to connect. If you have all MP3 on an external SD card, just remove it and Kies will work fine. Otherwise remove or rename your MP3s to make it work.
Seriously this worked for me, credits to a user of some forum (can't find the post).
Force close all d launchers before connecting d phone to kies its very necessary step hope it will work
It's unbelievable... the best Android phone has the crappiest PC companion. Seems everyone has exactly the same problem with kies.
As far as I've read it's related to files with longer names stored inside the internal memory. Come on! The old Palm Hotsync didn't suffer from such stupid things!
I think we should start a global petition for Samsung to fix that. My wife has a 10 bucks nokia that has a far leaner/better/functional PC companion.
@nagash1979 - by saying remove it - u mean "all mp3/flac and media" in the external card?
@ srajoria - did that. In fact. uninstalled laucnher pro and then tried. no use.
@c3p9 - i don't think its a deal breaker for this phone. As there are alternatives for kies (like es file explorer for wireless transmission of files). But if only there was an OTA update, then no need of kies at all
@nagash1979 - i couldn't find any windows media player application running in the background. thanks anyway....
Finally I got the solution for the KIES problem.
I had recently downloaded winamp beta from android market. And when connected the phone in usb storage mode when winamp was open in PC and phone, my phone was detected as mass storage. And when I opened Kies, it also detected my phone (finally!), but asked me to connect to kies mode. I removed the cable and connected again in kies mode. And it worked like a charm! WOW!
But it's not working everytime!
Edit: The Mass Storage worked 4/10 times. Kies worked only once out of 10 tries. Everytime a alert message to turn off the SD card is popping up which is very irritating. Dunno how to fix that....
Atleast I was able to connect my phone with the PC using USB Mass Storage mode after a very long time - took the backup of all camera files
If you have latest version of Kies installed and drivers working and experiancing MTP crashing issue on phone then it is long file name issue.
To solve this, connect your phone in media mode and mount the card on system. Use attached utility and search long file names on phone and delete them.
Now connect Kies you should not get MTP issues.....
However this does mean this crappy software (Kies) will still detect your phone...
Try to use Antroid Manager will be satiafied. I have uaed it works fine over Wifi.

This is giving me a major headache right now. I've plugged the phone into the computer via USB to transfer some files, like I do every now and then, but now I can't because it doesn't show up as a drive anymore, and on the phone, the options seem to have changed.
This used to work perfectly fine before. I can only narrow it down to the recent official OTA upgrade to Android 4.2.2. I need mass storage mode for a few things, e.g. my music player on Windows (Media Monkey) syncs with the phone, but now of course it won't recognize it anymore.
What is going on?
- Windows 7 64bit
- Android 4.2.2 stock official OTA un-rooted, un-everything, vanilla
- HTC Sense 5.0
Thanks guys.

It doesnt get mounted as a drive (and never did), it shows up as an MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device. Open "Computer" on Windows and at the bottom it will show "MTP Devices", under that there will be your phone.
If it's not, then maybe you need to update HTC drivers, and check your "Device Manager" if the phone shows up correctly under "Android USB Device"
Thanks for the insight - you put me on the right track, and I got it to work now.
It showed up in the device manager, but with an error like you suggested. Unplugging the phone or switching USB debugging on and off hadn't helped (tried that a dozen times before I posted). When I checked the device manager, asking Windows to update the driver via web didn't work out either.
So I unplugged, rebooted both the phone and Windows, and plugged in again. After that, it installed some driver automatically - it worked this time, and now it works again as before. It shows in Explorer / xplorer2 / MediaMonkey as a portable device and I can use it like a drive and drag&drop files. That's what I meant by "drive", thanks for clearing that up ha.
Thank you!
Hi,
So, I went and bought the Razr I phone, despite the language question was hard to me.
But anyway, now I have other hard issue: How to transfer files between the phone and a WinXp computer, when there is no "Mass storage" option in USB computer connection on the phone.
The "Media device (MTP)" mode seems not to work with XP, but "Camera (PTP)" works. But I can see only DCIM and Pictures folders from the computer.
I'm not sure, where they are even located: on the phones internal memory or on the memory card (there is 8gb micro-sd).
An interesting feature was, that when the phone was connected to Win7 pc in camera-mode, I could see the both memory spaces and all the folders.
Why can't I see the folders on XP? The phone is with the stock ROM (81.5.39001.XT890.Retail.en.GB / Android 4.0.4).
And why there is not "Mass storage"-option despite my old Defy with CM9 and the same Android 4.0.4 version had the option.
Edit. Solution - see post #8
For a long time I didn't use XP but I assume You need to install whole driver pack to see MTP on XP. I suggest to look for mod to enable Mass Storage Mode on Razr I. I saw this mod somewhere here but completely don't remember haw it was named.
I could find only one driver package from Motorola: Motorola Device Manager 2.4.5
But that didn't help. After connecting the phone with USB-cable, my pc recognizes the phone, but then requires a MTP driver.
Weird that no driver-CD did not come with the phone original package.

It is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888. Works really good.
But if you are on 4.0.4 You can find on this forum mod of the framework with USB mass storage enabled.
But you have to be rooted.
Yes, the phone is on stock 4.0.4 version as I have owned it just few days.
The phone suggested an update (91.2.29001.en.GB), but I didn't update. I was happy with CM9 4.0.4 version in my Defy, and same version seems to run smoothly on Razr I too. And by the update, I would possibly loose the FM radio function.
Hopefully the mod on this forum is easily described, I'm a low-level rookie with customizing Android. However is was delightful to install CM9 to my Defy with good instructions on this forum.

You can try this one method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005541
or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040933
Make a back up at first.
I've just found, that there are some MTP drivers for WinXP:
Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit and then Windows Media Player 11 (which includes the driver)
Lets see if one of them work first. Otherwise I have to say goodbye to the phones warranty.
Edit. Case solved. I installed Media Player 11 and then selected Motorola USB Composite Device driver in WinXP device manager for the phone.
Now it works, despite not so simply as USB mass storage option did. I'll spare the warranty so far if something comes ahead.
Thanks for help.
Don't worry about warranty. In this days You can root without bootloader unlock and use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888. Yesterday I tried to download 7GB of movies from my RAZRi card by MTP and when I saw transfer speed around 1MB/s exactly the same as on WiFi I searched some and this is easiest working way for USB Mass Storage.
This is getting frustrating now, no matter what I do I get this message: "USB Device Not Recognised"
Here is what I have tried:
Connect on android
Connect as MTP
Different USB cable (5 to be precise)
DIfferent USB port
WebOS recovery
Reinstall Novacom Drivers
Restart PC
Restart Touchpad
I have no idea what else I can try, no matter what I do, this annoying message persists!
Platform? ROM?
What's the ROM you are using? Also, which platform is your PC on? Linux/Windows/Mac?
In case you are on some 5.1.x ROM, I would recommend a nandroid backup and flashing a known 4.4.4 ROM which might tell you if it's your hardware or just Android. If you were on a stable ROM earlier where USB was working, then I would recommend trying that. :fingers-crossed:
Similar Issue.
My TP actually works (sort of) via MTP but it frequently disconnects when transferring files and freezes my explorer window. I tried to use Mass Storage on PAC KitKat FINAL and windows reports that it can't find a driver for it and when I try to reboot into recovery it only mounts a tiny SD Card partition of some 800mb. This probably won't be answered but whatever. I've been trying to solve this issue the past 8 hours. I have nothing to lose.

hi, had some trouble with my win7 PC detecting touchpad (using JC's 4.4 Cm11), although ADB was installed - I couldn't see it as a storage drive despite the driver installing. touchpad was connected via MTP.
what worked for me was on windows - go to Device Installation Settings (drivers) and choose never install from windows update. Then under device manager -> android device -> uninstall. reconnect and it should work properly. hope that helps
Hello guys,
First of all, thank you Mike for the ARHD 93.0 rom (Android 5.0.2 Lollipop)! Really clean and fast and my HTC One M7 hasn't been faster since when I installed the latest update!
Now for something less fun. When I flashed the rom, everything seemed to work perfectly, it was blazing fast and everything on the phone worked perfectly well.
However, when I tried to move (drag and drop or file transfer through several programs) files onto my device it kept repeating the same sentence 'This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected'.
This does not happen instantly, all drivers were installed properly and when I connect I can quickly transfer a file from time to time before it disconnects again.
So my phone connects fine, but then it disconnects afterwards although I can still browse directories on it. For me it made no sense whatsoever and I have been searching all over the place for a solution.
I have tried the following:
- Turn off USB debugging (as whenever I connect my device it kept asking to trust the computer, with every reconnect it asks me twice and I use 'Always trust this computer' and press ok)
- Used file transfer programs like wondershare mobilego and flashfxp (even) to transfer the files, did not work. Wondershare Mobilego only works with USB debugging off and it finds my device for a second but then also loses it and states it's disconnected.
- Tried reinstalling USB drivers (including HTC sync), windows just reinstalls the drivers and the problem persists.
- Tried changing the drivers within device manager -> Portable Devices -> HTC One. Tried them all, nothing works and problem persists.
- Tried different filetypes, but it just instantly gives me the 'This device has either stopped responding...' message.
During the installation (flashing) there were no problems whatsoever.
The device is always unlocked when I transfer files.
I use windows 7 x64 Ultimate Edition
I have used TWRP to flash the ARHD 93 rom and the only issue I have is it disconnecting all the time so I reckon it's a software issue somehow.
I have tried many things, but nothing worked, and hope there is anyone out there with the solution for me.
Thank you in advance!
