Oh I So Hate Myself

Yesterday, my old computer crashed so I went shopping for a new computer. I don't know what I was thinking, but I came home with a iMac 24'' desktop.
So, say goodbye to my cooking days. This DOES NOT mean that I'll be getting an iphone..NEVER. I will wait until October for WP7(not soon enough).
Moved to Off Topic.
Now why would you choose that? There are a lot of computers coming out with up-to-par technology. Hate to say it, but bad decision.
Imac your going to need a drink or two
i enjoy my mac quite a bit!
Ive never owned a mac but i have heard there not that bad tell me how you like it.

Yes, precisely that is the reason why I decided on iMac.
so far I like it. I like it because I didn't have space for the mini/Tower and I didn't care much for HP touchsmart.

Google eBooks

Google unveiled its eBook Store today and launched an Android app as part of the process. I'd love to try it, but can't find the APK file to load it on my CN. Can any of you provide a link. Thanks.
Its on the market, and its free. A simple ADB pull and push will do the trick..

Thanks. My only Android device is my rooted NC, so the Android Market won't work for me. Or am I missing something?
The only problem with the books app is it asks for your account when you open the app. I was able to get around it by installing it to my droid first and then restoring the apk and data with titanium. Still not synced to my account but i can search fine so far. Haven't tried downloading any books from it just yet.
EDIT: I couldn't manage to download or read any books on my nc.
Here ya go!
I installed but it doesn't work. Need to have a google account attach to it. I haven't figure out how to do that yet.
Figures. The NC hasn't been getting along with anything associated with google. That's been the case for me at least.
There is an app called WordPlayer that can access all the free books from Google Books.
Also, I tried a free book on it (I'm outside the USA) and it worked alright in the non-rooted web browser as well. Icons a bit small, not very responsive, but it works.
You can still get books from Google and sideload them onto the Nook. We all happen to have a pretty nice reader built into our devices.

I want to say we can DL the books as Epub and then open in the nook app? Based on the app/NC not being tied to the Goog cloud yet, i'll stick to my sideloaded books from the Gutenberg Project site.
Adobe Digital Edition will handle the epub books, yes.

I used this last night: just went to google.com/books with the NC browser.. then when you find one you like theres a link to read on you device.

Any particular reason for using EPE54B when the nook claims to be ERD79?
Yes, EPE54B is newer, but the ERD79 might be more compatible. Or alternately EPE76 which would be the newest (pre-froyo) release?

Dish Anywhere on Chromecast

I was wondering if any one has had Dish Anywhere playing on a pc with google chrome and used the cast entire screen option to stream it to the tv with chromecast? I really want to buy one if this works. Thanks for any help.

Wishful thinking! Dish is a bunch of iOS fanbois and don't give a crap about Android! They have 3 apps for iOS and 1 for Android. They can't even release a freaking app to remote control a hopper...

Damn, I was hoping it would work. Maybe the powers that be will come up with a work around for it. I guess I will have to wait. Thanks for your response

A work around would be impossible if Dish is not going to build it in. Just buy a cheap Android stick and you can run Dish Anywhere on there. This is how I get Dish to my TV in the Garage...

Not sure what you mean by Android stick? Can you tell me what you use? I think I'm looking to do the same as you.
Just looked them up on the net. A lot to choose from. Any recommendations?

I have a Minix Neo-G4 and it works well with Dish Anywhere although it does not play 1080p video well so if I were buying again I would probably go go with something different. Do some research...

Can the App Store be Side-loaded on ANY version of the Fire 7"??

I need to get an inexpensive tablet to use specifically for work email only. I need to be able to install Citrix Worx on it, and I can not root it or MDM/Worx won't work on it.
I see that it worked on 2015 models... but if I go to Best Buy today to buy one, will I be able to get the app store and framework on the tablet? Is there an OS version it will or won't work on; and which OS's can be downgraded (and is it possible without root to downgrade)?
Or am I better getting some cheap chinese tablet..
OR.. Could I flash this on any new Fire Tab? I'm assuming it doesn't root..

You should be good to go, as far as I'm aware the play store 'mod' will work with all current fireos versions on this tablet. I have personally installed it at least six times on tabs for friends and family without a hitch. The latest being only last week.

One other small thing, if you need more than one Google account on the tablet, simply grab Gmail from the play store and do it through the app (I forgot about doing it that way the other week).

Use "Books" App without Amazon sign-in?

So I reset my tablet today, and I wanted to transfer some e-books to it, but I need to sign in to do that. It tells me my email/password is incorrect but I am 100% SURE it is perfectly correct because I entered it 7 times. I am not willing to expel the effort to fix this, so is there a way to just use the books app without signing in?

Nope. But you can reset the password from your Amazon account on the web.

I had done that too. In any case I just ended up removing the books app also when I found out it couldn't read EPUB books. I'm using "Cool Reader GL" now.

Good choice. Amazon's reading app is exceptionally limited unless you are tied to the Kindle ecosystem/format.

Amazon, Apple and (for awhile) Microsoft to name the big three. Lock-ins are profitable. For now Amazon does not have sufficient leverage to fully wall off their devices (like Apple) by eliminating side loads sans "jailbreaking".
