Dualboot patcher 101
Device : Galaxy Note 4
Difficulty level : Easy
This is a full guide to understand and use Dualboot Patcher App
Download latest app snapshot from : Noobdev
Files » DualBootPatcherAndroid-9.1.0.r80.gd5920b2-snapshot.apk
Latest as of Jan 8 2017
Install it like a normal apk
Dualbooting begins here ---
Main things to do are
Setup Dualboot boot enviroment
Setup Dualboot files
Flashing
Switch between roms
App sharing
Part 1
Setting up for first time use
-Open dualboot patcher app and do the following
-Go to Roms tab then click the 3 dot menu on "Primary"
-Press Set Kernel {if it didnt ask you at the beginning}
-Then press "Update RamDisk"
Part 2
Patching Files for dualboot
-Download the rom you want to dualboot / any mods for it / xposed or whatever flashableZIP you want to install on your secondary rom
-Go to "Patch Zip File" Press the + and click "Add Flashable Zip"
-Select your ROM Zip
-Select your Device (Trelte For exynos or Trlte For Snapdragon)
-Select "Data slot" in Partition Configuration
-The ID is your parition name , basicly SAME ID for zips = Same flash location, Type rom1 for example [No caps]
-Do the same for any other zips (making sure the ID is the excat same)
Part 3
Flashing
Once you are done patching files , you will end up with a duplicate collection of your original files, but they end with _data-slot-[ID].zip suffix
-Grab those files and go flash them in your recovery
-in the recovery screen you will see [Multiboot] prefix behind most scripts, that means you are flashing a patched zip
-Once you are done flashing just hit reboot from the recovery
Part 4
Switching
You will be greated with your new rom , do the first setup and you are now running your secondary rom
Now, to switch roms do the following
-Install your dualboot patcher app on your secondary rom
-Open it and go to "Roms" Section
-Suprise, you will see Primary and below it [ID] (Data Slot)
-Press the primary and reboot , thats it
Part 5
App Sharing
Lets say you want your app data to be available on all your roms , Whatsapp data , telegram data , game data etc
-Open the app on your primary rom , go to "App Sharing" Section and enable " Share Individual applications"
-Press "manage shared applications"
-Click on an app "whatsapp for example"
-Tick "Use shared data"
-Hit ok then Then go back after selecting all your apps
-It must show a toast saying "The changes will take effect next reboot"
-Reboot your device to the secondary rom and do the same thing for the same apps
App data is now shared across both roms,
F.A.Q please read before attempting this
1- Faild to set kernel due to unrecognized device
-Common issue with custom roms, you can fix it by editing your Buid.prop , changing device name , code etc and ro.patcher
2- Flashing files via recovery , will it affect my primary rom ?
- No , all the files are directed to your new rom enviroment , the only things that can affect dualboot is kernel changes
3- How to change primary / secondary kernel ?
-To change primary , just flash the new kernel , then follow " Part 1 " of the guide again
-To Change Secondary , Follow " Part 2 " of the guide to patch the Kernel zip then flash in recovery
4- Where are the files located ?
-your secondary system can be found under /data/multiboot/data-slot[ID]/System (only seen when you are using primary rom or Recovery file manager)
-Your shared app data can be found under /data/multiboot/_Appsharing
5- Enabling app sharing, my data for the app is gone.
-When you enable app sharing it changes the data location, so whatever data you had need to be moved with it, best thing to do is to backup the app you want to share with titaniumbackup (before enabling shared data for it) then restore it when you enable data sharing and rebooting
6- How many roms can i "dualboot"
-As much as you like aslong as you have storage in your data partition i had 4 roms dualbooted at one point
7- How much storage does it consume ?
-CM roms are usually around 1GB for system + few GBs for data (total of 3GB-4GB For normal user with some apps)
-TW roms are heavier around 2-3GB for system (most bloated AF roms) and same for data
8- My secondary rom broke due to a mod or something, how can i switch roms in recovery ?
-Download dualboot utilites
-Files » Utilities : DualBootUtilities-9.1.0.r80.gd5920b2.zip
-Flash in recovery and it will give you an aroma installer enviroment to select your roms
9- Switch roms without aroma
-In TWRP select flash IMG option instead of zip
-Navigate to /internalmem/Multiboot/[ID]/boot.img
-select flash boot
-swipe to flash then reboot
10- Can i install a rom with aroma installer ?
-Yes , just make sure that the aroma does NOT reboot your device after completion as the dualboot script needs to run after the rom script is done to set the new kernel etc
—---------------------------
Hope this helps whoever wants to use this app , its very simple ,it might look complicated but its easy, GL and have fun
This guide can be used for other devices , Dont forget to hit thanks and reply if it helped.
All thanks for the original devoloper and poster @Anik_khan

If you want to dualboot a TouchWiz ROM, I highly recommend installing TW as the primary ROM. Here is screenshot of my dualboot testing list

Sorry for late response. Your issue is due to your custom Rom changing treltexx names in prop to graceltexx. Usually renaming the changed text to treltexx must work. Use a file editor and search for any grace mention and make sure it says treltexx. Specially the device codename
And update the app It seems old

Hey everybody,
As y'all can see: I'm new here
I found a way to root (almost) any device...
THIS ONE WILL TRIP KNOX (on Samsung devices)
Code:
I'm not responsible for any damage to your lovely device. If you continue in reading this and actually doing what I say, you accept my terms of me being able to laugh in yo face when you say I turned your smartphone into a potato... even if this means you didn't go to work because your timer didn't go off... lel
Needs (resources):
- laptop or pc (DUH)
- odin >>> just google it and you should find it
- a custom-recovery file for your specific device (must be odin flashable) >>> can be found on XDA (here where you are reading this *lol*)
- the universal root-package.zip >>> attached :good:
- Data cable >>> I recommend using the cable that came with your potato :silly:
- some time ( )
What ya gotta do:
0. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked >>> if you forget this or you just don't wanna do this (y?) Your data may be formatted when flashing
1. Place the update-supersu.zip file on your phone's storage (better would be sd card but okay... BTW you can choose... it's not like it HAS to be on the phone's storage)
2. Run odinV3 as administrator
3. Boot you phone into download/odin mode >>> power off > power button + volume down + home key OR power button + volume up + volume down
4. Connect you phone to your pc/laptop
5. In odin's live log it should say: device connected
6a. In the AP slot: put your recovery file
6b. Make sure to disable auto-reboot in options of odin (IMPORTANT)
7. HIT GO!!
8. ONCE DONE FLASHING DON'T REBOOT... reboot into recovery IMMEDIATELY ( VERY important > if you perform a normal reboot you gotta do this all again ( your uprooted system will replace the custom recovery with its own recovery if you didn't successfully root ))
9. In recovery allow modifications
IF YOUR RECOVERY ASKS TO ROOT YOUR PHONE PLEASE, PLEASE DECLINE
10. Hit the install button in your custom recovery and search for the update-supersu.zip file > select it
11. Install it > you should see some stuff happening
12. Once done hit reboot system now and let it reboot >>> first reboot may take some time... let it go and don't speed up or reboot Becuz it may break... once again not my fault -____-
13. Look for supersu... if it's installed > you probably successfully rooted your device * please confirm with a root checker \[°^°\]
Hope this was helpfull... it is my first tutorial
I want to get into making custom kernel and ROMs but I'm limited in resources ( this dooz doesn't even have a pc... -_______- ) but if someone knows how to edit a stock rom or edit boot.img files > TJELL MJEH
-Dylan ( I'm actually 14 years old duuuude )

In the OP I had the ADB_Root_G930U_QE2Files.zip linked to the ADB_Root_G935U_QE2Files.zip zip so please make sure you have the ADB_Root_G930U_QE2Files.zip when downloading. Its fixed in the OP now so just double check
I recommend everyone put the Flashfire AP zip and Rom Zip on your internal storage as the AP file is so large that it may not be read properly do too limitations of some SD Cards. When you select AP file in Firmware there should be 4 partitions that are selected. If not then you have a bad download or need to have AP file on internal storage
Thanks for all your hard work . I just installed this so far so good but I am missing Wi-Fi calling. Is that normal or am I just not looking in the correct place? Thanks

Ok will try that when I get a chance. Thanks again.
Thx for an awesome rom.
Sorry if this question is asked before but couldn't find a solution (checked Verizon thread as well).
I am running Playstore version ROM and everything is working fine except Video Recording.
Photo is fine but when I record a video with included Camera NX, it only plays sound and the screen is either still or black.
I have been taking a needed break. I will update all my s7 roms including this one in the next few days
Nice
That rom can flash for g930p? tks your work!!
@jrkruse
Thanks for all your contributions to this device. I just bought this device and I've been diving through the forums trying to gather as much info on this locked down device.
Could you provide me with just the boot images that don't check the system image and from what model/rom are they from?
Oh and could you provide the partitions locations? The latest roms have an updated Knox that blocks SU from doing it's thing and I have to perform everything via adb (eng boot).
Blank screen
Hello,
I am on your custom rom and the phone was working fine for a day. After I restarted the phone I am not able to see the lockscreen. Its just blank. I do hear the sound of taking a screenshot when I press the buttons and I also can see the " shut down, restart, emg mode" buttons when I hold the power button but no lockscreen. I tried running the recovery boot img but nothing changed.
There is some kind of issue at the locksceen after a restart.
I'm Stuck

I followed the directions up to Step 7.
For the life of me I can not get the AP file to copy to my SD card. Yes I have enough space on it and I can get the ROM copied.
I tried copying the AP file with a file explorer, on my PC, external card reader. Every time I try, it gets to about 95-99% and says "copy failed".
I know it says flashfire only, but is that my only option?

From my experience & guess, you may still have old files & settings even though you flashed U-firm files Step 1-2.
Try to access recovery mode and do factory reset and see if this helps. Make sure you backup all important files to External SD because it will factory reset.
So I rooted my phone using Araltd's guide in this forum. I've got a couple of questions about this rom...
1. If I were to flash this rom to my device, would it remove my root access?
2. What's device performance like? After rooting, my device is very slow and buggy. Will this fix that?
3. Will my device still be full of T-Mobile's bloatware?
Thanks!

1. Yes, it will remove Root Access but you can still use ADB to do root stuff like push / pull files.
2. Since it will use stock boot instead of ENG boot, it will fix the lag issue.
3. This is U (universal) firmware so it won't have Tmobile bloat but it will have Samsung bloat/apps. During the install you can also choose de-bloat level too. From my experience BS-Free (2nd one), is both lightweight and stable. If you go with Playstore level (most lightweight, replace Samsung Apps with Google ones), you will have trouble with camera.

Do you know how this rom compares to the QF6 one which seems to be a bit more popular?

The QF6 ROM you mentioned is T-mobile firmware so it will have Tmobile apps. Most of them can be removed from ROM install or disabled after.
Other than that there's no performance difference.
If you want Tmobile like environment with Tmobile update schedule, go with T-mobile one. If you want less carrier apps, go with U-Firmware one.
I will no longer be updating my s7 threads until the time Oreo is released with root method. For now I have worked with @stang5litre to bring my non-root method to his amazing rom. He currently has a nougat release found here http://stang5litre-roms.proboards.com/
I keep getting samsung pay connection error. any fixes? i tried factory reset and reset settings, but the app still doesnt work. do i have to reflash the rom?

If you at any point tried to root it or flashed the modified boot image then you are no longer passing the safteynet checks, my suggestion is to do a clean install and see if it works then try it again making sure you don't root after you are done installing this rom.

This is a full guide for unlock/relock, install TWRP, Root your device and backup/restore stock OS. Each and every step is explained thoroughly with pictures and videos.
I have ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 (6GB variant) (X00TD) (ZB601KL), so I can’t test for other variants. Please report back issues, corrections, omissions, etc., though the guide should work for all devices.
THINGS TO KNOW (IMPORTANT)
~Every text written in double quotes “” means the same written without the quotes.
e.g.:- “abcd” means abcd
“zxcv” means zxcv
They (“”) help to separate usual text from the other text (like a command, file name, etc.)
~If you have not enabled file name extensions then you will see files without their extension and vice versa
e.g.:- “filename”, “mypicture” in 1st case
“filename.extension”, “mypicture.png” in 2nd case, respectively.
~Boot Partition or Bootloader:-This is the partition that enables the phone to boot. Without this partition, the device will not be able to boot.
~Recovery Partition:-Recovery partition lets you boots the device into a recovery mode to perform recovery tasks.
~TWRP: - stands for TeamWin Recovery Project. It is a custom touch recovery that is GUI based.
~Flashing: - simplest: - installing
~Fastboot Partition: - lets us reflash partitions. (On device)
~Fastboot: - is an executable used to reflash partitions. It comes with the Android SDK. (On PC)
~Rooting: - an Android phone lets owner edit system files. Thus enabling various tweaks and use of apps that require root access.
~Device driver: - determines how PC will communicate with a device.
~Unlocking/Relocking:-With a locked Bootloader, booting into custom things is not allowed is not. Unlocking lets us do so.
~Reboot: - Switching ON AND OFF (in simple terms)
Requirements
MIND, PC, USB Cable, Internet, Fully charged PC (Windows OS), and obviously Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1
The Real Steps From Here
FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE YOU WILL PROBABLY LOSE ALL THE DATA ON YOUR PHONE SO MAKE A BACKUP FIRST (Don’t worry it’s in guide too)
STEP 1. Downloading all the necessary files
a. Here are 2 zip file with everything you will probably need following the guide :-
basic zip
extension zip
. I have tested the procedures using these files only so maybe other versions might not work. A “guide.doc” with the same text as in here (on XDA) is also present. It will be of great help if you don’t have internet connection in PC.
The basic zip file contains minium files needed.
The extension zip file contains the TWRP recovery(then one used in the guide),guide.docx ,and the videos used here too.
Copy the twrp file to unlock folder of extracted folder.
b. Extract the zip file above.
First download the zip file and Copy to PC
Then Right Click on it
Then click “Extract All”
Uncheck “Show extracted files…”
Click on “Extract”
The folder “zip” will be extracted
Done
This “zip” folder will be called extracted folder in the guide video link to extract zip
To download most up to date version of the files go to links present at last
STEP 2. BACKUP
a. Use an apk backup tool to backup app installers
VIDEO TO BACKUP APP INSTALLERS
b. Some APPS like Whatsapp, etc. have backup to drive function use that
VIDEO TO BACKUP WHATSAPP CHATS
c. Backup SMS AND Call Logs
VIDEO TO BACKUP CALL LOGS AND MESSAGES
d. Copy each and every file from you internal storage to PC.
Video to backup each file to pc
DONE
Step 3. UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER(Data will be wiped)
2 options:-
A. Official Method (NOT TESTED): -
In extracted folder go to “unlock” folder then “Official” folder. Install the “UnlockTool_9.1.0.3_180621_fulldpi_signed_ZB601KL.apk” in Asus and follow the steps from there.
B. Unofficial Method (Tested):-
a. Installing Drivers
Connect phone using USB cable to PC
Right click on This Pc
Go to “Manage” > “Device Manager” Or Just search for “Computer Management”/“Device Manager”
A list will appear.
Find your device (best way to do so is by disconnecting/connecting the device and notice the changes accordingly in the list)
Now right click on it>”Update Driver Software”>“Browse my computer for driver software”
Now either enter path of the driver folder or click on browse and navigate to the driver path from there.
Press Next OR
“Let me pick …”>and select the driver
video to install driver
The drivers have been installed
b. Booting into FASTBOOT
Switch Off the Phone
Hold the Volume UP and Power ON Button Simultaneously
Device buttons labbled image
You will see this on your phone
image of FASTBOOT screen
c. Unlocking Bootloader
Now connect phone using USB cable to PC
Look for the “unlock” folder in the extracted folder.
Open it
Find “unlock.cmd” or “unlock” file
(Or “unlock no erase.cmd” to keep data {not tested})
Open it
Done
d. You will see some messages in yellow/brown/white colour on your phone
You will most probably see “encrypting your device”, “warning Bootloader unlocked” messages, let phone do its work and don’t interrupt it, and keep cable connected. Phone might reboot too. The phone will at last boot into stock OS and you will see the device setup screen.
image of the warning message
e. Now if you wanted TO ONLY UNLOCK BOOTLOADER THEN THE JOB IS DONE, long press power button. If you want to root or flash TWRP then continue (Tested method to root requires TWRP flashing or you can try the untested method to root only)
Step4. Installing/Flashing TWRP
TESTED METHOD
a. Connect phone using USB cable to PC
b. Don’t setup your device just now because possibilities are you might lose the data again
c. Boot into fastboot mode
d. Open the “unlock” folder in the extracted folder.
Now Two Different ways to opt for from here:-
i. THE LAZY METHOD (Tested)
a. Open “flash_recovery.bat” or “flash_recovery” in the “unlock” folder of the extracted folder.
b. You can flash the tested or any other recovery using this script.
c. Follow the steps from the script
video of how to use the script
d.Then go to step of Flashing ZIPS of The Manual Method
e. Done
OR
ii. The Manual Method (Tested)
a. Keeping Shift Key pressed, right click {with mouse} in the blank white space of the “unlock” folder’s explorer window.
b. From the menu select “open command window here”
c. A CMD window will be opened
open cmd video
d. Now type “fastboot devices”
e. See if your device is connected. You will see something like this
f. Now type “fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-X00TD-20181024.img”
If you want to flash any other recovery instead of “twrp-3.2.3-0-X00TD-20181024.img” write the file name of your recovery file. Make sure it’s in “unlock folder”. Though this recovery is the only tested one (by me).
g. Now keeping the phone connected to PC, boot into TWRP/Recovery by pressing the Volume Down and Power ON Button Simultaneously.
h. The usual warnings, messages and recovery boot screen will flash:-
warning image
twrp flash screen image
i. It may take some time to load so wait for at least 2 minutes.
j. Now if touch is not working press power button 2 times (on and off the screen)
video showing how to enable touch in twrp
k. If it shows “Swipe to Unlock” do so. If it shows “Swipe to Allow Modifications” then wait and continue reading …
swipe to allow image
swipe to unlock
l. “Swipe to Allow Modifications” means you allow TWRP to modify system. This will make sure TWRP remains in the phone and not just vanish after a reboot but it also means you will have to flash some other files to be able to boot into stock rom back.
m.
2 ways from here:-
i. Now after swiping, Decrypt Screen will appear just press cancel.
decrypt screen image
OR
ii. If you have data on the device then enter pin/password or try default_password.
If you had kept pattern then either go back and change it or try this:-
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
these no’s correspond to pattern dots.
Say you kept pattern “third row left to right” then the password is 789 .
If all these fail then you will have to lose your data.
n. As we don’t have any precious data in our phone we will (or you are compromising)
Press “Wipe”
Press “Format Data”
TYPE “yes”
Press “tick” or “enter key”
Done
wipe data video
>Flashing ZIPS
o. Now Copy these 2 files
i. “decrypt.zip” or “decrypt”
ii. “Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_12.16.2018.zip” or “Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_12.16.2018”
From extracted folder to your phones internal storage.
p. Go to Install>select the zip>swipe to flash (flash dm_verity… then decrypt…)
If you don’t see your device storage connected then try reconnecting using USB cable and also check if MTP is enabled.
enable mtp video
>Done
Want to root? Then continue…
or >
Now reboot to system Go to Reboot>System
video to show how to rebbot to system in twrp
Step 5. Rooting
We will be using Magisk to root you can use any other method but this is the only tested method.
a. Copy “Magisk-v18.0.zip” or “Magisk-v18.0” to your phones internal storage from extracted folder.
b. Go to Install>select Magisk…>swipe to flash
Done
c. Now reboot to system Go to Reboot>System
reboot video
e. To use Magisk properly you may need to download latest apk. (Link at last)
Step 6. Relock (NOT TESTED)
a. Connect phone using USB cable to PC
b. Boot into fastboot mode
c. Open “Relock” folder from extracted folder
d. Open “relock.cmd” or “relock” file
Done
Step 7. RESTORING
a. First setup the Device again
b. Copy each and every file back to the phone storage
c. Now to restore messages see the restoring part of this video here
d. WhatsApp messages will be automatically restored after you install the app with same number as before.
Tips
After rooting don’t just go on and flash a custom rom. Take a backup first (of all partitions) using TWRP and keep it safe somewhere so you won’t need to find unbrick tutorials later. Plus you will have your most stable and tailored rom with you.
Also don’t just go on and flash xyz mod. Research and then Flash.
Magisk is our best friend. It lets you do modifications without hurting the system. The Magisk modules are most safe mods as they can be reverted back easily.
And don’t just go on and debloat stock OS. In Magisk there is a module called Debloater use that. You can easily revert back if anything goes wrong.
Other good Magisk modules: - Energized, Systemizer, MidnightCore & Advanced Charging Controller (acc) but do read their XDA guides first.

I want to unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and flash a custom ROM (Cerberus OS).
I have rooted and flashed TWRP before in my previous device but I'm not familiar with unlocking and Custom ROM.
Do I have to follow all hese steps for what I want to do or I must skip decrypt/encrypt and Magisk?

Thanks for the help.
I'm running into some problems while installing the driver software on my Windows 10 laptop. It shows Error 10 this device cannot start.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, rebooted my pc on every step, tried to install while connected to my phone, but nothing seems to work.
I've installed the Pie Beta for Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (not sure if this is causing it)
Is there a solution to this problem?
I am currently on Beta Pie...will these methods work for bootloader unlocking and TWRP, custom rom flash ???? I just wanna use PE/Havoc OS rom...no other tweaks or root
thanks its working
I updated to pie beta and I think this guide is not working for that, because when flashing twrp. I'm getting 'request download size is more than allowed size' and I tried every way possible to solve it. But no luck Hope you can help me with it, or maybe it'll work after stable version?

Is this method working on pie stable build
Anyone tried this method on the stable pie build 056?
