Hi all. Sometimes when I reboot my N6 all the tones it makes are nice and loud. Everything from notification and ring tones to the sound it makes when you hit the back button or keyboard keys.
Then all of a sudden, the tones get very quiet. All of them. It happens every time I make or get a call BUT will also just randomly just happen. I can get the volume back by rebooting the phone repeatedly until it just works right. I can't come up with a way to make sure it will be loud when I reboot it. Today it took over a dozen reboots to get the sounds back up. Then I got a call and had to start all over. That time it only took 4 or 5 reboots and it's been good so far.
It's really easy to tell if it worked right or not. As soon as it boots, I just tap the back button and if I can hear it, it worked. If I can't, I shut it down and reboot it again, and again, and again...
Any ideas on what is going on? I need to fix this as it gets so quiet I'm constantly missing messages. Thanks!
Oh, the phone isn't has never been rooted, was purchased from Google and I'm on Verizon if it matters.

I've got a wav recording of my baby laughing as my SMS incoming message sound which is around 10seconds long.
In my old sony ericsson phone (ordinary phones), whenever I receive a message, I just press any button and it stops the sound. I love the longer sound but on certain occassions, like in my office, I would like to turn off the sound using a single button.
With the Kaiser, I tried to press all buttons but it can't be silenced right away. It has to play the recording until the end. My option is to go to the HTC home plugin / audio, then set it to silent mode, which may take a little longer, or I just try to cover the speaker with my hand. biggrin.gif
Would you know of any shortcuts to stopping the sound?
Thanks.
Have you tried moving the wheel on the left down-wards?
Thats what I do when my phone "rings" when someone calls... just knock the wheel down and it silences it
tried it, didn't work.
thanks..
Same here. I chose a song as my incoming SMS that was 3 minutes long. I had to go to the notification settings page to silence it.
Any help would be appreciated.
As the guy above said, scroll the wheel down a turn or two. That silences incoming call alerts.
(And a 3 minute song as a ringtone is not the best idea. Edit it down to 20 seconds)

That didn't work for me with SMS. I scrolled down, up and hit every button on the device and it still wouldn't work. I edited down to about 10 seconds. That's well long enough for an SMS.
same problem
I’ve the same problem with my tytn.....if I don’t have a long sound I don’t see a new sms or mms even if sometimes the short sound it’s better!
also I’ve tried all buttons but they wouldn't work!
So...if don’t have any hardware solution…could I have some chance for a software solution?
How about just leaving you phone on vibrate when at work instead of disturbing everyone around you
Easy solution to you problem and your coworkers will probably thank you for it...
Or you know, using Audacity to pare down the length of the sound file?
thx for the answers....
i work in a lonely room...and the song volume isn't a problem...but i leave the phone everywhere...so i would like to stop the music sound when i've find the phone and i've read the new message!
my alarm volume doesn't seem to work, i have the volume turned on, i have the volume cheked in sounds and notifications. I worked before, the only thing i do is turn the phone on vibrate when i go to work and turn the volume back on when i get off, i've been doing this every since i got the phone in november, now all of the sudden the volume doesn't want to work on teh alarm when i have the volume on, when i go to the alarm i get the popup that says make sure the volume is turned on in the sounds and notifications settings, which it is. i did a soft reset that didn't work, i then took out the battery and sim and put them back in thinking the phone just needed to clear itself or what ever kind of like shutting down a pc completely, and that didn't work either, any ideas on this? also every since taking out the battery and sim card, i now i have a blue circle in the top bar next the atenna were if i push it, it brings up the option to ativate PTT anyone know how to get rid of this?

anyone? i managed to get teh second part were i get the blue icon on the top bar to go away, but the alarm part i can not figure out.
Perhaps you should try custom alarm applications like Pocket WakeUp or Mortplayer or something the like.
Most of them can override volume control to a fixed point (even if you put your Kaiser on vibrate, the alarm app starts itself and sets the volume to a chosen strength, like 50%)

I had sound problems once. It happened when I set a music program to associate with mp3's (default is Windows Madia Player), once I removed the association, all played normal again.
I think I changed it with the back Advanced Configuration Tool.
Or try your alarm with a wav or mwa file, perhaps you'll get sound then.
No sound
I've had my Tilt for 2 days, and since I flashed the latest Dutty 6.1 ROM I have no sound from alarms, music, sliding keyboard, phone ringer...nothing. I can hear the other caller talking and they can hear me. My phone vibrates but does not ring, even though I have it set for vibrate and ring. Can anyone help?
So when I'm talking on the phone and a text message comes in, it vibrates and blasts me in my ear. I love the notifications, just not when I'm talking on the phone. I consistently have to pull the phone away from my ear when this happens. You don't realize how intense the vibration is until it's in your ear.
Is there a way to disable the notification (or at least mute it) while my face is up to the phone??
Subscribing. I also am not a fan of this behavior. Need the person to repeat what they just said because I pulled the phone away while phone was vibrating. Very unprofessional. For now, I'm just turning off vibrate option in messaging and email settings. This phone should be smarter (and less laggy) right out of the box.

Yeah it's definitely annoying, but I did the same and just turned off vibration for most alerts.
Well, to be fair, it was almost kinda worse on the iPhone 3GS that I just came from. Any calls you have come in on call waiting and stuff are heard right through the line to the other person on the phone with you... and if you are on the phone with another person that also has a 3gs (as was often the case with me), neither of you knew which was getting the incoming call unless you pulled the phone away to check. Both lines heard it plain and clear.

settings-call settings-all calls-alerts on call
so when I get a new text or missed phone call, unlike my other phones, I have no idea when I get these unless I actually turn the phone on and check. is there anyway fix this? or do I have to wait for mango?
Mine does this also! no message alert or ringtone even with the volume at 30, i've noticed when it does this you can hear a hissing coming from the speaker on the back, if i re start the phone it is fine for a while.
I'll be darn if I can figure out what is going on here.
4.1.2, stock except for custom kernel brick bug prevention.
I've had this rom running since it was released (this is a note international, GBT via amazon, used in the states)
Never had an issue, but I've started to notice a couple missed calls. Today, I saw what was happening.
Incoming calls, the ringer only rings for maybe 1/2 second, phone continues to "ring" but you never hear
anything! It's like it has been silenced as if you quickly pressed a button. That's how it acts without bluetooth.
If I have my bluetooth (jawbone ERA) turned on, SOMETIMES, if the screen is off, it NEVER rings, on the speakerphone
I'm using to dial my Note, I hear it ring 2 times, then go directly to voicemail. Sometimes it does that, sometimes it does
not, otherwise, the phone ringtone plays for a split second, headset continues to ring normally. Screen shows the incoming
call, but no ringtone. I haven't tweaked, installed, updated anything to cause this. Just one day it started doing it.
I'm about to do a clear reset, but it's just a PITA to set it up. Device is going on 18 months old, first issue I've really had
with it other than a bad USB port or a worn battery.
Any clues?
edit: Found the issue...I use call control as a phone number blocker. In settings, I had on for blocked calls, "remove partial ring" turned on. Once that was turned off, everything started working.
