It's been a while since I've owned an Android device (last one was a HTC Evo!) and while in China last week, I decided to pick up a P10 Plus (6GB/128GB/DualSim). Unfortunately I lost out on the storage lottery (didn't even realize it was a thing until yesterday and back in the States) and got the eMMC version, but I did get it for a bit cheaper than what they were asking for (~$620 USD) so I guess I'm okay with it. My questions are:
1) Is it worth it to spend the $$$ from funkyhuawei to rebrand from the Chinese version or would it just be easier to root and remove all the Huawei nonsense (in particular HiVoice and that online CHINA yellow pages).
1A) and if yes, which version is the best between the Asian and European builds? What are the main differences between them? I'm looking for least amount of bloatware (besides EMUI, which is pretty nice).
2) I have the Google Play Store, Find my Phone, etc, all installed on my phone but the phone is NOT appearing on my Google profile despite me buying an app last night using the phone itself. Tried uninstalling/relogging/etc and even get the notifications that my Google account has been logged into a new phone. Any fixes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Over 90% of the storage in China is eMMC as Huawei thinks it's not easy to be sued by the user.
1) You can just uninstall most of the bloatware in the App settings. But Huawei's own Apps cannot be removed. You can only hide it.
2) How did you install the Google Play Store? You can just search and install in in HiMarket. I also mentioned in another thread that you can search ”联系人同步服务“ (Google Contact Sync, just copy and paste it) in HiMarket. After installing it, go the the App setting to grant all the permissions to "联系人同步服务". Then it will sync your Google contacts automatically. BTW, you can find all the Google Apps in HiMarket.
Disable Yellow pages from settings>Apps to remove the Yellow page (which is only in Chinese language) from phone dialer app.

I installed the Google Play Store via the "HiApp" using GMS安装器 and then the Google Play Store. My phone doesn't have a HiMarket app... I'm not having an issue with contact syncing since I actually use outlook.com. My issue is that the Play Store and Find my Phone both do not detect that I have a P10 device, even though I've downloaded AND bought programs in the Play Store app on my phone.

HiApp or HiMarket is the same.
Did you check the settings of your Google account in the Account Setting? As Google is prohibited in China, most of the permissions need to be manually set by the user.

You can simply uninstall it by remembering the App Icon and click it in the settings. He meant that the App is only shown in Chinese in the App settings. You don't need to change the language back to Chinese

Nope. From settings>apps, there is toggle in bottom to "show system process". And then you can see an "online yellow page" app which you can disable.

Nice, that's one issue down! :good: Any chance I can disable HiVoice (and replace with Google) with a similar process? I couldn't find HwvAssistant in the list so I assume that would require root to get to?

I'm still very much considering it, but it'll be 12 more long days before I get my bootloader unlock code from Huawei. Which is the international version? European (VKY-L29C432) or Asian (VKY-L29C636), info pulled from https://funkyhuawei.club/rebranding

After rebranding, how can you get your contact info from huawei cloud ?
I CANNOT install any app like hiapp or hicloud on my rebranded phone.
After soft bricking the phone from uninstallng the wrong system apps, I've successfully flashed B153 eu firmware using the mate9 fw flashing method. Reference posts and guidelines are on my desktop but can refer to them if op or anyone needs them. Cheers.

People often mention that to get apps to show in the Market that are missing, they use MarketEnabler. When I do this, and fake T-Mobile, Verizon or whatever, it never shows any missing apps at all. It looks like it does nothing. I've even tried Force Stopping the Market afterwards and clearing its cache. (Yes I have root. I'm currently running CM7, but it didn't do anything on Eclair 1.0.1 either.)
Am I missing something? Is there a trick to getting it to work?
Is there any other way to get apps to show up? Downloading on my phone, backing it up, and transferring it is getting annoying haha.
Anyone?
have you tried "market access"?
without it i could not see paid apps in the store (because of my country). now i can buy apps with no problem.
still, i dont know if it will give you access to those apps hidden for you

Thanks. Gave it a try but still missing apps.
The Amazon app, official Twitter app, Google Voice. I can't get these to show up still, and probably plenty of other pretty "standard" apps.
Can anyone on CM7 get these to show up in the Market? If so, how?
and can't you get them thru the web market? (just speculating, i dont have CM, i'm still waiting for a stable release)

Note: I do know how to transfer apks manually; it's just annoying to do so. I wish the apps actually showed up in the Market.
Its not carrier restricted since you are not coming from a carrier. The problem is actually being addressed at length by the CM team in the dev threads.
edit: its related to (i believe) some apps requiring an SD card and some apps requiring a security setting related to copy protection... I could be wrong on that 2nd part.

So are you saying some apps (like Amazon, the official Twitter, and Google Voice) cannot be seen by ANYONE running CM7, no matter what?
Hmm. Could you tell me, how much time it took for web market to recognise your device after rooting and adding google apps? It was more than 10 hours since I autonooted, but there are no signs of my nook in market's device list. I use autonooted 1.1.0.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, not sure. When I checked to see if Market Installs would work, that was the first time I logged in since installing CM7 last weekend. I assume it shows up immediately after you register with the Market on the device, but I guess not.

Does anybody know whether Nook with nooted 1.1 ROM shows in the web market device list at all?

No, I am saying it is hit and miss. Check the dev thread for details and a work around.
I had success with market enabler, but not on cm7..nookie froyo and I did the clear cache of market force stop and google framework something or other also.
Did a reboot and then first thing used market enabler to fake Tmo and then all the missing apps I had been looking for showed up right away.
hit and miss is no joke though.
tried both verizon and tmoble. didnt do anything except cause my market to keep crashing. trying to reboot a couple of time to hopefully bring it back up. glad i made a back up a little while ago.
guess ill search for another solution.
I have all Apps listed.

Paul, I've never had much issue using CM7 nightlies. A few Vs back the "my apps" starting working as well.
PM any requests while you futz with your Market access. I'll send whatever you like.
well it appears that my nook was registered through the marketplace properly, went to the the android market website, found the app i wanted (google maps), selected install, it lets me choose either my phone or my nook. chose nook, downloaded right away. now i have access to anything not showing in my market.
not the most ideal fix. but it works for now. not like i was missing many anyways. try it out. can probably even be done from nook browser.

No matter what app I select on the market.android.com website, it says my Nook is not compatible (see a few post #8 for screenshot).

i havent done anything besides run this version. i really dont know how to do any of the fixes or anything else. very noobish. so glad this had everything i needed and runs so smooth.
by *fix* i mean, just way of doing things. not really a *fix*. there are apparently fixes out there. but this required no programing and no use of adb, although i finally figured out adb wireless. so i could finally try it if i wanted.
There are those lucky users who are able to fake a carrier and install apps not available in their country with Android Market 3.xx. I am but possibly the lesser ones who though managed to fake carriers using Market Enabler / Market Acess but still unable to search for apps which are not available to my country.
Now this is a working workaround method that I've tried using 2 types of Market Enabler available in the Market and also Market Access.
Who should be using this workaround?
Users who successfully faked a carrier using Market Access / Market Enabler with Android Market 3.xx but still unable to find certain apps within the new market 3.xx.
Tested Working with the following
Market Access
http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
Market Enabler
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.notenking.mf&hl=en
Market Enabler
https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler&hl=en
1. Install Market Enabler or Market Access
2. Run Market Enabler / Market Access
3. Fake a carrier from within Market Enabler / Market Access
4. Open your browser
5. Search using keywords like "Google Earth Android Market"
6. Click on the searched results and select to open with "Market"
7. You will be re-directed to Android Market
8. Once market opens, you will see your desired app and will now be able to install.
9. Once you installed, I recommend you select "Allow automatic updating".
10. You may restore your value back to your original carrier.
11. From now onwards, if there is any updates (even though it is not available in your country) it will be automatically updated when available.

I got books updated automatically without faking carrier.
But that's not my point of this post actually. The point is even with faked carrier I can't find the apps. So thru browser it actually finds it.
Nice find. Previously I had to revert to Market 2.x and install a paid app. It works through browser. Tnx
You're not allowed Google Earth? Wow, your country sucks
Good advice though, and I was able to update Google Books and Google Music automatically without faking, just needed it to install as you say.

Well you can't buy any music with Google Music, so I doubt it. Can't say about books any more though, as it is now officially available in the UK.
Unless you use Market Enabler though, the books option wont appear in the Market, but with it you should be able to.

Yeah, my bad. Too excited
Ok, so I bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) since I've always been a fan of Leica products, and I'm a hobbyist photographer. First off, I currently use an iPhone 5s for the last 2 months, and before that was using a OnePlus One, and before that an iPhone 5c and Blackberry Passport, so I've had a variety ogf phones over the last 2 years. I'm not into hacking, or unlocking or locking bootloaders and that type of thing, which is why I generally like Apple products, as they just seem to work out of the box. I'm leaving my 5s because the screen is too small, and I like what the P9 offers for the money, at a cheaper price point than an iPhone 6s. And the Leica optics.
So, having said that, what do I need to know once I get the phone tomorrow? Any critical or important tips or tricks? Again, I'm not into anything complicated when it comes to phones like rooting, etc... I'm in Canada and my Carrier is Bell. My ANdroid experience has been with the OnePlus One I used for a while, and I was generally pleased with it.
Thanks
Ok, so phone arrived. I made a mistake. It's a EVA-DL00.
It's running EVA-DL00C17B163, and I'm currently updating to 168. This is a CHinese version of the phone, from my understanding. I'm using it in English, but some things are still in Chinese. Is there any way to to flash with other software to make it all English?

Welcome to the club
I recently bought the EVA-L10 (Chinese Dual-Sim, "premium" version, 4G/64G) while in Shanghai, and I have the same "problem" as you.
Basically since Google is not available in China, the phones sold in China don't come with Google Android framework, they use a "non-google Android", based of the official Android.
So, to your question, will it be possible to flash another firmware over your phones firmware? I say Yes, however at the same time I'm lying, because I'm also looking for this firmware for my phone, but if someone posts a EVA-L29 Firmware somewhere on the Interweb, I'm most certain this firmware will work on my phone and should also work on yours (might require bootloader unlock and root, but so what..).
But the phone is, chinese apps or not, awesome

You can install Google stuff. Just download the Google Play store from the Huawei store, and then have at 'er installing all the normal Google Play apps that you want. That's what I'm currently doing. I just want to get rid of all the Chinese stuff on the phone. ALso, switch the keyboard to the regular Android one in the settings.

Hi!
Of course, but there are still some applications that are "System Applications" that you cant get rid of, like HiCare, HiApp, .. etc. and if you are in a country using special characters like ü or åäö, these are not rendered correct in the Mail app (shows up as chinese chars).

Hi,
I also bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) last June, and currently i'm having an issue.
Usually i don't have games on my phone, or almost none, but some days ago, i wanted to install Heartstone on my P9. When downloading , at about 85%, sometimes 9x% (once it reached 100%) suddently it pops out from Google Play, and don't install the game. I tried also with other games and it happens the same. It doesn't happens with every game, i tested sucessfully with Stack and Sokoban
I have plenty of free space on phone and several applications installed (no Google Play issue, i think).
After i received the phone, i download the Google services/play store APK without issues. I deactivated the chinese bloatware, with no issues. Once Google Play installed, i downloaded all other Google Apps i use and others without issues...well there is an issue i had with RT app. It installed ok, but sometimes when i want to open it, i have to try several times to open it... I click on icon but closes.
Have someone here with EVA-AL00 having this issue also?
Thanks!

I just bought the non-carrier specific 3G / 32G Chinese version (EVA AL00) P9 when I was in Guangzhou last week and had to do the following after coming back home to get it to work with google and sync with two google accounts.
1. Install Google Play Store from HiApp and sign in with first google account.
2. Make sure to give Google Play Store permission to access storage, otherwise large apps won't install.
3. Download apk of Google Contacts Sync from APKMirror
4. Download apk of Google Calendar Sync from APKMirror
5. Use the browser on the phone to download these two apk files and follow the instruction on the phone to install them.
Sorry I'm not allowed to post outside links yet, however google search keywords like Google Contacts Sync APK will turn up the download links.
6. Since the phone still did not allow me to add a second google account in Settings -> Accounts -> Add Account, I had to install Youtube and use the Add Account in Youtube to add a second google account.
After these steps, I was able to sync contacts and calendar events with both google accounts and install apps from Play Store.
Hi, I too recently purchased a Huawei P9 EVA- AL00 , my issue is that I cannot source the Drivers for this model and I have searched the web on several occasions and several web sites? I am trying to unblock the bootloader so I can change over to English version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Timeline works, enable google account and gmaps, give all necessary permissions and then on location.

I've been going crazy for months but it doesn't work for me.
I also tried to install google maps & services via ourplay from vivo store (ourplay creates a sandbox), in which version of map the timeline is active but does not record my movements.
ive upgeaded to Ocean by OTA
Forget the sandbox. You may be aware that it is highly unlikely that one phone has a timeline and the other doesn't and the hardware or the system is the cause.
The more probable cause is your google account or settings. Therefore, I advise you to first check if your device is GPlay certified in settings. If not, you should achieve it by adjusting your google account (on a computer) or reset the phone.
Another useful approach is checking the timeline on other phone (or tablet). You may borrow one if you don't have it. If hte timeline works, the problem lies in your phone, otherwise in the google settings.
It doesn't work for me. Device side problem as it works on other android tablet.

Did you check if you're device is google play certified? If yes, check settings and permissions. If it doesn't help, try to factory reset the phone and set everything from scratch.
I don't have the button for the verification from the play store, but only an application verification
But you do see "device is certified" under the Google Play - Settings - About?
I can't turn on location history either. It just has in Italics "Location History is off"
Can't select any toggle to turn it on.
In play store it shows my Device is certified.
History works fine on my other devices.
Live View for walking directions is also always greyed out on my Vivo for some reason.

Inspecting the issue thoroughly, I found that the location history actually doesn't work. The reason that I was mistaken is the fact that I use a dedicated car dongle in order to have Android Auto. And all time history I have has been plotted with this device. Last month I was travelling and got zero timeline.
I tried to enable it and totally failed. As it can be seen from the attached picture, my phone is not and can't be included in the location history.
I searched the web and found the probable reason. Chinese Vivo doesn't have full Google framework, only basic. Hence, it can't communicate with Google servers in full. That's why we can't make backup as well.
Actually, I don't miss the location history on the phone that much. But if someone is interested, there is an instruction to enable it here:
[FIX] [All Amazon tablets] Enable/Fix Google Location Services [MARCH 2019]
****UPDATE MARCH 7, 2019:**** If the guide below doesn't work for you, see additional instructions at the end. This seems to be a huge problem for many users...location services not working when the Google Play store is installed. I have found a...

Of course, it is for a rooted device. But there is a slight chance enabling it without the root. The most important is getting the full Google service framework to the phone.
Otherwise, I guess, we are out of luck.
The non complete framework is the reason why many google features don't work:
- android auto;
- location history;
- google backup;
- "OK Google" voice activation.
Thanks for the explanations on the problem.
I tried to download the apk files.
Already the first on the list does not install due to a security exception.
I also tried to download the latest versions but I have the same error.
Any solution without Root?
Interested in solve this problem
Was about to pull the trigger on the Vivo when I saw this on Wondamobile.

I use gpay for all my card transactions - do I understand it correctly that it will not work on the pro+ and thus won't be able to use the phone for transactions?
That would be a total deal-breaker for me!
It does work, however google play itself will not update itself, so then google wallet stops working and you need to get google play from a third party website to update it. For wallet to work play services and play store need to be on same update level.
There's plenty of small google problems usually not mentioned, and then no one can guarantee that google doesn't require wallet to be a system app in future..
Google likely will go harder on this as many governments require them to make apps optional from Android and they could avoid it by just making them working as a system app forcing manufacturers to include them. It's a strategy google has clearly added to lately due to court decisions in various countries.
So right now it works, but with any google service on Chinese phones future versions full working gets less likely.
You can see on older vivo phones it often stopped working for some days to weeks too. Cannot count on it working though so far it mainly did.
I have Google Wallet (Google Pay) working fine for me once I enabled Google services.
Haven't had an issue with it (I'm in Australia).

Works for me too (Netherlands)
thanks. I'm in the UK. Perhaps they just forgot to update their page after Vivo firmware fixed the issue

It never was an issue. I guess it's just a standard text they copied.
Google pay works fine for me in the uk
Google pay works fine for me in FR
No Google Pay issues for me in Singapore ( Vivo X90 Pro + (V2227A 12GB/512GB)
No problem to Greece too..i think they put it on Wonda just to be safe if its not working on someone.
is there a way to quick access the gpay screen from the phone being off(not off but locked etc)..and does one need that to be on it to make a payment? or just keep NFC on?

Did you find a way to get a quick access when the phone is locked?
I have not been able to add my bank card to Google wallet on this phone - no issues on the old phone.
This is the answer from the bank
So - is this a UK issue or just my bank picking up on issues with the phone?

No..but I realized that if my phone is unlocked through smart unlocked(while on me) all I have to do is tap the device on the machine and it works.I don't need to be in the app...
If you want to be in the app,I think there is an off screen shortcut where you can assign the app for it. It's the volume down button

Can you add your card on other phones? It sounds more like your bank doesn't support google wallet. There are plenty who don't. Nothing to do with the phone! If you can add the card to other google wallets, then the problem is with your phone.

Yes, Starling bank supports Google Wallet - I used same card and GW on my old phone
I had similar issue.maybebsimilar. I kind of changed the google play services file ..and I think the google Play store ..I went back to this forum and saw what they were using and used them. And then my card worked .
I think people having problems should throw down all google programs including play store and services from the phone and install them from scratch because it's likely due to the broken versions on vivo appstore.
Likely trading Shenzhen already installed some broke. Stuff. It just doesn't make sense otherwise. Everyone uses the same OS and hardware should not be different either except different batches.
In general don't install anything from vivo appstore to save yourself problems. Especially not Chinese apps as they are add infected from the vivo store.
