Hello everyone,
I'm a potential Huawei P10 Lite buyer and would love a little insight from someone already owning the device that has it rooted.
I see that unlocking the bootloader is possible and officially supported by Huawei (props to them for that!). You need to enable the "OEM Unlock" option in Developer Options menu which displays a pop saying "WARNING: Device protection features won't work on this phone while this setting is turned on."
What does that mean exactly? What device protection features are lost (besides from the obvious unlock of the bootloader)? Can you still use fingerprint and password options?

Thanks for the info, and what are the said security features that are disabled? Only the locked bootloader?

Thank you, I know about that security issue and I have my data encrypted.
I was asking if Huawei meant this and only this by "WARNING: Device protection features won't work on this phone while this setting is turned on" or there is something else that gets disabled.
Thank you.

Hey XDA,
So today I got my N Preview 2 OTA update and everything is fine and great. However I went into dev settings today to make sure I had debugging and OEM unlocking on but, if seems the Allow OEM unlock button is grayed out. Is anyone else seeing this? It may even be stuck on the Allow setting but, I really can't tell and it's a bit concerning. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

I have to ask the obvious question. Is your device already unlocked?

Nope, status code 2 'locked' according to my bootloader.
He's right, I'm unlocked already and on np2 and I don't see OEM unlock in dev options either. They must be moving it to another location or something
Edit: I do see it now but you can't toggle the switch anymore
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
looks like after the fiasco of the 1st preview that bricked phones during OTA & most of them have the bootloaders locked & OEM unlock in off position, this preview has put the oem unlock in default on position.
so if I am already unlocked and I flash the 2nd preview- am I OK? will the bootloader stay unlocked?
i believe so

That makes sense...the op screen shot shows the button slider to the right (on position), even though grayed out.

Yea, you're good. As long as you don't run the "fastboot oem lock" command through fastboot, your bootloader should always remain unlocked. Even if the "OEM Unlocking" toggle is switched off, an unlocked bootloader should remain unlocked.
I'm on NPC91K with a Nexus 6 and the "Allow OEM Unlock" option is grayed out and disabled for me. My phone is currently locked and Fastboot oem unlock does not work.

Thanks for checking that out. Officially concerned now
I tried out NPC91K yesterday and the "Allow OEM Unlock" option was also grayed out , but the button was in the enabled position. After a while i out back backup and bootloader is still unlocked. In Bootloader it says Device is Unlocked Status code 3.
I am in the same situation, my phone is locked and N preview 2 now oem unlock is greyed out and disabled, anybody can suggest a way to enable this, TIA.

Hi, can't find info on this anywhere, can anyone please shed some light on my problem? I did a factory reset on my P10, bootloader is locked again which is great but FRP is showing as unlocked in bootloader. When I try to use Andriod Pay it wouldn't work and says bootloader is either unlocked, or I use custom ROM etc...but I'm full stock and bootloader is locked again, I think it's the FRP that causes this. How do I lock it please? Thanks for your help
Edit: I found out I'm on completely different firmware that to what I'm supposed to be(I think). I'm on VTR-L09C432B201 which seems to be Europe region and I'm in UK. Do you think this prevents pay from working?
What is your Enable OEM Unlock option status?
If it's enable, try to disable it, reboot and check FRP status.

It's still the same, it was enabled and I disabled it and no change. I'm just trying to get that android pay to work. Maybe I'll try to force OTA update to 8.0 and see if that does anything??
As we all know the development of our device isin't going great because of the Huawei decision to stop bootloader unlocking but we have a developer who is ready to work on our device And he already successfully ported the twrp for our device which is available in the development section but future development is halted because of the lack of the required files which can only be obtained from the devices with a root access which is only possible with unlocked bootloader .So anyone who has an unlocked bootloader and want to contribute in the future development of Honor play, please! ping me or drop down a comment or a reply below.
Thank you.

Are people who have the button OEM unlocked already via Oreo?

Also FunkyHuawei not giving out codes anymore so no point?!

Huawei / Honor Bootloader Unlock Code
Sorry, bootloader code processing is currently not available. Check back on this page for future availability.

yes,but if the switch is inactive it cannot be enabled... see attached picture, inactive the "enable oem unlock" switch on my phone... if you can't turn it on, you can't enable opening,if there is any code, then... if this switch is active, then approving bootloader opening/unlocking... but have unlock code, but switch is inactive, cannot open bootloader with code...

@asser19 why is it not possible to open it now? if you want to modify your system, buy a phone that is less secure, huawei/honor is now a safer mobile phone that can not be opened and can not be rooted, this is not a problem

Whether or not you want to modify should be your choice because you've bought the device so it's yours.

yes, legitimate, but modification can cause damage to motherboard, which would be replaced by a warranty, thus causing damage to the manufacturer, not due to improper use, therefore, to prevent this, the manufacturer may block system modification

Hey, im coming from my old s7. So does WE have any Chance to get bootloader unlocked?
Got the phone from Three Ireland and the bootloader was unlocked, just switched the toggle in developer options and all good, just waiting for some progress with root and roms but nothing really happening here.

Yep, I get the same on my P30 Pro, type in pin and I get a popup saying: "Enable OEM unlock, Device protection features will no longer work on this device" then an "enable" and a "Cancel" button.. - not hit the enable button as yet tho, as I dunno what the "protection features" they are talking about do...
I'm not sure if toggling the oem switch actually unlocks the bootloader. Pretty sure that's half the process, but a unlock key still needs to be entered through adb/fastboot
That doesn't unlock anything. It just gives you the possibility to do so (in general, there is no solution for p30 atm)
Bootloader unlock would format every data of your phone for example, everything

Actually, this option only allows you to unlock the bootloader, without the code, you still cannot unlock it.
Hello to everyone,
I wanted to unlock the bootloader of my device so I can modify it and I tried to follow the steps given by Xiaomi.
1] enable OEM unlock in developer settings,
2] connected my device to PC
3] signed in xiaomi unlocking tool
then a warning about security changes appeared before finalise the unlocking stating that i will lose fingerprint unlocking service of my phone.
The question is if someday I decide to return my phone to full stock state will fingerprint and the other security services return as functioning?
Thank you in advance.
Yeah you'll be fine. You will have to downalod rom image form xiaomi website, downalod xiaomi flashing tool, connect phone in fastboot mode and flash original os. Phone will be like brand new
And i don't remember that my fingerprint scanner had any problmes, now i have custom rom installed and its perfectly fine

Thanks again.

I will try some custom roms and if they won't have the features I want I'll try the Indonesian region rom for mi apps. Also, I know I shouldn't relock the bootloader with custom roms, but can I relock it with different regions official roms?

Yes, everything works fine. If you want a close to stock experience flash xiaomi.eu, and everything will work. Fingerprint, facial recognition, nfc and banking apps will work perfectly fine, nothing to be worried about
