ok.
was that a question?
if so check this link first.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/help/tool-dl-image-fail-blu-r1-hd-t3440261
I had this error on mine at least 2 times (after bad sp-flash tool downloads, recovered by flashing with different program) and was able to recover. But seems the steps I took to repair mine have not worked for others. It is hard to say. Almost all the reports of trouble have gone dead, no further response from those with trouble.

Also, why, oh why, would ANYone buy the 8 GB version of the Blu R1 HD when you can double BOTH the memory and storage space for only TEN dollars more?! If it were me, I would return the 8 GB and order the 16 GB instead - it's the best $10 upgrade EVER! People with the 8 GB phone complain about not having room to install apps and that the phone is slow.
99% of the people on this forum bought the 16 GB phones and while there many not be many differences, it is not known what differences there might be.

Newegg Shell Shocker: Streak 7 $119

Shell Shocker #3, starting 4PM PT 10/28/12.
I had an original Kindle Fire with CM10 JB and it was awesome. Got stolen in a burglary.
I've been browsing the dev section for news about CM10 for the streak. At $119, I might noodle with one just to play.
Any opinions as to whether this is a deal, or pass and wait?
EDIT: This is the 1GB RAM version, not 512.
Good deal. most places I see sell refurbs at $140
Get it while the getting is good...

You sure that you don't have that backwards?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=streak+7&x=0&y=0
Yeah, what I said was correct while the Shell Shocker was live. The $135 unit was $119 free ship.
However, after reading more on it, I decided not to grab one.

Afaik a 1gb ram version doesnt exist, there's only 2 mobos (known to exist):
a cellular enabled version and a wifi only version, with the only difference being the inclusion/removal of the mini PCI-E socket.
(The rest of the changes are on the chassis itself and not the mobo)
If anyone actually got one of these "1gb" ones, could they report back?
It's possible that dell secretly released an uprated 1gb ram version, or that it's simply a misprint.
There is no 1gb version. End of story, TheManii.
Newegg appears to disagree.

Newegg is wrong. I could pull it out of the kernel how much memory it has.
Anyways it doesn't matter, just irks me with incorrect information.

Nexus 7 2012 32 GB performance

I've tried nearly every version of the official Nexus nakasi and Cyanogenmod grouper ROMs for this device and I have come to the conclusion that my Nexus 7 2012 32 GB device has the faulty memory that degrades over time.
I can flash the device and optimize the living crap out of it with any number of optimization tools, even Trim (fstrim), but after two or three days I'm back to horribly lagging performance. Even going back to Jelly Bean, Kit Kat, even earlier to Gingerbread, it doesn't matter, it's just bad.
So, if you are offered a 32 GB Nexus 7 device from 2012 for a good price, consider it closely, since it might not be what you wanted.

For the price I got it (100$) I think its worth every penny. Any device at this price range in 2012-13 did not offer what nexus 7 could. I have managed to stay lag free on lollipop without flashing ROM for more than a month. It's fine for me for reading books and watching videos, and I bought this for the exact reason.
And how did you install Gingerbread on this device? Is that even possible?

try the optipop rom eith f2fs before you throw in the towel. if you dont wanna wipe then go ahead and flash the nv-3.1 kernel along with it
Im in the same boat with my nexus 7 im running cm10.2 it feels like im in the darkages though smoothish still after a month right now im about to load optipop, might have to try with out the conversion first, ive never found a quick way to backup this thing for filesystem changes, if anyone knows a fast way let me know.
I gave away my 16 GB version and the new owner says there are no problems with that on the latest Lollipop release.
I will try the 32 GB device with optipop rom and the nv kernel and let you know. I was wondering if CM took any advantage of the nVidia graphics accelerator on the Nexus 7.
By the way, I dug up my old slightly lower spec'd Nook HD and flashed exactly the same CM release and it is smooth as silk. Too bad the screen is so flickery.
my 32 is as bad as my 16gb there is no differences at all!
My 32GB is terrible also! And the battery lasts an hour IF that, even at 100%.

A new battery is $20 shipped on Amazon Prime. It's likely even cheaper on E-bay. I just (unnecessarily) replaced the battery on my 32GB today.
I experienced performance issues with those first Google Lollipop releases. I'm looking forward to taking it off KitKat and back to a newer (likely CM based) Lollipop release this weekend!

New Fire 2015/6 Kids edition advise?

Hi, so I just bought 2 Fire 7" "Kid's edition", which I believe are just the Fire 7" 5th Gen 2015, with an added 1 year Amazon FreeTime subscription?
I'm not sure if I need to root them. They seem a bit slow (not blaming the hardware), and I worry I may lose the 1 year unlimited FreeTime, but at the same time, I bought 64G Micro SD cards, and they will be used offline, so I plan on buying learning apps for little ones.
What should I do? They came with Fire OS 5.1.1 by default, and I really wish to be able to make a backup of whatever I do with them in case the mother I give these as a gift has to recover it somehow (she knows nothing about android btw).
Here's my hopes with these devices:
1- Use them offline, buy, and download many learning apps for kids, as well as games, and movies.
2- Since I seem to be able to use FlashFire at the moment, and not TWRP, find a way to create a nandroid backup, and easy recovery. (or is Amazon recovery good enough?)
3 - Is it worth a slight performance improvement, flashing a lighter rom, and less confusing launcher/Amazon setup, and complicate a recovery procedure?

"@sd_shadow Thanks for reading my question.
It has a Micro SD card slot for up to 128G of storage, it's not an HD (I believe they don't support Micro SD), and it says 5th generation as well as Fire OS 5.1.1 that came by default. Here's the link, and special offer (buy 2, get 50$ off):
Fire Kids Edition, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB, Pink Kid-Proof Case
My questions are really regarding giving these devices to a mother that doesn't know much about tablets, and will mostly be offline (Freetime is mostly Wifi only sadly), so I'm trying to think what I could do to these devices to improve her experience, and the little ones.. I root, and try out roms all the time on my cellphones, but even with much experience using android roms, the Fire OS UI seems confusing, and bloated to me for a regular mom.

How do I Flash Amazon Fire 7 Nexus(modded) (originally 5.1.1) back to fire os 5.1.1

I flashed my son's Amazon Fire 5.1.1 with Nexus ROM using FlashFire.
What is the safest way to go back to FireOS 5.1.1??
I am still searching the forums, but I am nervous because I've already destroyed 1 of these things and really don't want to do a second.

Safest approach IMO is to sideload 5.1.1 via Amazon's stock recovery. See this tread; first post has a nice video.

Surprised you stepped away from Nexus (or any custom rom for this device) if looking for 3rd party apps. If FireOS is a must you'll probably need to keep some of Amazon's massive app portfolio from launching at boot and reloading even when 'swipped' away.

Well I may have to step away from the device altogether. Unfortunately we bought 3 of them as Easter gifts for kids. I didn't research the device enough before purchasing (my fault). We found them for $28 on Amazon, saw they could be rooted with CM12 and assumed it would work like the Nook Color did. (my fault completely).
In the 3-4 days that my son used it and we had moved apps to the sd card...for whatever reason when I took a look at the tablet to see how space was being utilized and how well it was running on the 4th day....the sd card didn't even show up. And I know (if you want a nook color experience...buy a nook color)...

Nook Color is a nice device. However, you can probably achieve your objectives with a little more work. Are the current problems confined to issues with SD card access? Or are there other concerns.

I have to admit that I don't use the tablet. It is mainly for my 11 year old niece, 13 year old niece and 13 year old son. Biggest concern for me is the sd card just becoming blank. I put cyanogen on my sons color 2? 3? years ago? and I haven't had to touch it since. He installs apps, copies movies over etc...but for the last 6 months he had been using it with a cracked screen....which seemed annoying to me but he didn't mind, but then the back fell off..lol....
I just want something that works and can install apk via usb cable etc...watch movies...play KODI. Each of the 3 Fire's have 64gb sd cards in them. So they should last a little while.
Let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm not totally against looking at another custom rom, but I may have to buy a 4th one so that I can mess with it.

Which fire tablet should I choose for my mom...

Which fire tablet should I choose for my mom? Currently she uses an old version of the 7 tablet running a cyanogenmod or lineage and she doesn't want a big device like the fire 10. I rooted it before, installed the rom and gave it to her as a gift 2 or 3 years ago. Now I'm searching a device which is currently new AND rootable. And for sure I would prefer a device, which got an existing rooting guide here on xda, a good maintained alternative rom and an active community.
On Amazon germany are currently available:
Fire 8 HD, 8. gen
Fire 7, 9. gen
Fire 7, probably 8. gen
Specifications of the newer 7 and the 8 HD are better (especially for the 8 HD), but:
Are they all rootable? Is it possible without linux for one of them (because unfortunately I never used linux...)?
Which got the biggest community here?
It would be great if you could help me! Thanks in advance for your interest and reading till here!

Since you are confining alternatives to Amazon gizmos I'd go with the 8th gen HD 8. That said, you mum would probably be just as happy with a ready-out-of-the-box Onn 8" running Android 9 which will be a huge upgrade at a similar price point. Yes, is is rootable although one has to ask why. Just to be clear, it's for mum, right?

Thank you, DB126. I'd like to backup all of the data and reinstall these backups on the new tablet. The last time I did that, I used titanium backup, hence the need to root it... I'll take a look on your recommendation.

The Onn 8 has a 3500 mAH battery vs 4750 mAH in the Amazon HD 8. All else being equal the HD 8 will go 25-40% longer between charges. But all else isn't equal. Kernels and ROMs yield different efficiencies as do app portfolios. Panel brightness is usually the biggest draw on portable devices which is one reason SOT is such a meaningless measure. Battery build quality also plays a role in longevity; in that regard Amazon scores pretty well. All that said, 5h is in the ball park for an Onn 8 based on personal experience with both devices.
