Samsung has a bottom line today is not in competition (Iphone plus? Nexus 6), of course it's the line Note has a niche market. Niche of the most demanding customers.
I love the line note note is different is not a smart phone is not a phablet, tablet. Note is observed.
PDA PALMTOP remember he had in 2004, for years had no competition. He later turned to dust.
Samsung have to stop this behavior much like a hyperactive child with acute attention deficit lost to a very wild market.
Samsung is underestimating their competition likely to be very careless with your most demanding customers.
As for update delays and low quality of the current Lollipop. Surely this must be the number of models and variants exist. But it does not justify S6 has a much better operating system "S6 5.1.1 ota rollout", and note 4 stay with median lollipop.
I do not like to compare, but even if IOS8 had many flaws the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 receive the same attention updates together. I think the mistake strategy, think Samsung is still low self-esteem, the exaggerated respect for Apple, which is also intended for the low sales of IPHONEPLUS ??? You may have influenced the strategy is to let the note 4 to the side and focus too much on the S6. I'm just guessing.
You have to consider the fact that Samsung has a lot of devices to update. You can't compare IOS who is a closed ecosystem with 5-6 device to upgrade and maintain with Android and Samsung who has a lot of phones and tablets.

Well first, none of us users asked for a hundred versions of the same device. Let alone hundreds of devices to flood the market.
Second, as OP stated, most of Note users are demanding power users. If you want to stand out in a market full of big screen phones/phablets now, you have to be up to it and dedicate the resources (time, staff, ...) for this.
Third, Note 4 isn't like iPhone 4S or iPad 2. It's this year's flagship for God's sake!
Fourth, Samsung is all about S6 and making up for S5 sales, which isn't wrong. But in the process a company that big mustn't overlook their existing flagship and their true signature device. Afterall, people still buy through word of mouth.

I believe that you made your points correctly and we understand them. I have been wondering the same thing, why is an S4 so much different from an S5 in terms of the software? Why is a Note 3 so much different from a Note 4? If Samsung wants to stay ahead of the curve, I thing a great place to start would be to keep their software matching to a greater degree, from TW to S-Notes to... you name it. I think that Sammy is losing focus in trying to capture the new user while not understanding that they are losing users out the back door because of their software.
I agree. But you know what teaches a company a lesson? By going to another company... They not only get one less sale, their rivals get one more sale. I think my Note 4 is very fast EXCEPT in the multitasking button (or recent apps button, whatever you want to call it). It's very slow, and it is rather frustrating. If Samsung cannot fix this within the next months before the Note 5 comes out, my next device will certainly not be a Samsung device. I paid well over 600 euros for a device, and I expect it to work well. Now, if they can't, that means that their current users aren't a priority and they're only focusing on their future users; ironically losing their current ones.
It's a buyers market. As you mention, the Note line has some very big pros on its side, such as the SPen. Apart from that, there are other devices that could give Samsung a run for their money. I recently tried using Windows Phone as my daily driver and it was a VERY nice OS (but no Android). I'll never go back to iOS because of how closed it was... But in Android itself there are TONS Of phones - that's the beauty of it. You have so many choices!
But you should never blindly give a company your money if they're not working to maintain you... I mean, after all, you PAID them for their product. This would be another story if they gave you their phones freely! But heck, for 600+ euros... I'd expect them to want to take care of their customers.
Bottom line: I'm very happy with my Note 4. Battery life could and should be improved. Speed could be improved from what I read on the forums. I'll give them until the Note 5 release, and then I'll reevaluate... Until then, there is nothing I can do, less selling the phone is an option and picking up another device. But I'll be sticking with my Note 4

This policy of samsumg is drawing users away from this product. I mean coommon i have an octa core processor and the touchwiz is making this phone like its runing on single core always delays and stutters . lag lag lag and lag everywhere. Even a nexus from 4 years can feel snapier than note 4. Of course we get 50000 + on antutu but that number doesnt translate to reality day to day. All is that i can say the software on note 4 is very poorly optimized if non . i have 3 gb of ram and nothing is open in recent apps and im already consumin 2.2 gb of ram. If samsumg cannot do it at least send us the open source codes so that the talented people over xda can make it happen

Problem is,at the moment I see no real competition to the Note 4. The M9 is a massive disappointment, the Z4 looks to be stuck In last year, the G4 has got a locked bootloader again. Despite its flaws,the Note 4 is still one of the best phones out there. I changed my phone 4 times last year and this year so far I haven't seen anything that offers better than the N4.
The heavy PWM samsung chooses for the display made this my last samsung. Probably my next one will be an LG, they dont use the heavy PWM like samsung does but then again they dont have the quality samsung has with it's screens.

I agree with you about the PWM, it really annoys me but the fact you won't be able to flash a new ROM or kernel on the G4 annoys me even more.
Everyone here loves their Note 4. That's why we demand the attention it deserves. It's the best android device ever created (minus some software optimizations, support, multitasking lag).
But to wait a whole year until the Note 5 comes out to get a -by then a year old- OS update?! That makes no point to me at all. Like other people pointed out, most countries still await 5.0.1 update. Having paid €600+ for this phone, i paid for the best phone on the market. That includes support and OS updates and performance and stellar camera performance -as promised/advertised- and here we are after 6 months since release, with no updates or a very poorly optimized update.
If only nexus devices had sd card and removable battery, i think they will kill almost all android sales. I am surprized my daughter's aging nexus 7 is still running Lollipop 5.1 today while my samsung phones even the newer ones are running kitkat.
I had nexus 4 before and never had any issue with the screen. Same with the nexus 5.
I think think samsung wants us to upgrade our hardware to get the latest software. They are now talking about the note 5.
I will keep my note 4 for maybe 18 months ang see what is in the market. I'm also getting tired with samsung and it's BloatwiZ os.
Samsung is paying for their mistakes in the past and it may take longer than imagine, the line Note is one of his greatest hits, so I fell in love with the note 4. I see no other option, I can only regret that we are paying for cost of his mistakes. So I resign myself and enjoy this great device!

If the Nexus 6 had an Sd card and good quality camera I'd move over straight away, I love all the custom Roms and kernels my N5 had and N6 has. Unfortunately for what I use the phone for, the N6 just isn't good enough and from what I've seen from the other flagships launched this year so far, they aren't either.

Agreed, if the Nexus 6 had MicroSD and removable Battery I'd have most probably chosen that over the Note4, although the VR issue remains, since at the moment only Samsung has a proper implementation of Mobile VR with GearVR.
Anyone who buys Note4 for anything else then stylus is fool. There are many same or better devices for much better price - if you do not want or know to utilize active digitizer.
I don't think we are all fools for buying Note4. I don't use very much the stylus. But Note 4 still remains one of the best phones of the market. Believe me I've had a lot of phones, i meen a lot. I've had Sony, LG, Xiaomi, HTC, BlackBerry, Apple, Huawei and a lot more I can't remember right now. But every time I'm returning to Samsung. We should admit that Samsung has a lot of good parts. Ok it is not the best company when it comes to updates, but not the worst. Belive me Sony has the updates for lollipop rolling right now, Huawei still waiting, Xiaomi still waiting. Maybe HTC and LG moved a little faster.

Lollipop update on Z3 is garbage
OK I got Note 4 with Exynos chip (64-bit disabled !!!) and I'm running Lollipop 5.0.1 with a lot of issues, lag & bugs and RAM management issues also.
no API 2 camera or RAW support, they just sent Lollipop update missing many advantages of the original Lollipop OS, Samsung just fooling us by a Software (Touchwize) reducing our Hardware (Note 4) real capabilities.
like
1- camera missing RAW support and other options.
2- no 64-bit abilities for Exynos model.
Samsung should fix the Note 4 issues as fast as possible & we don't have to wait for Note 5.
we need full Lollipop update with a fix to the 5.0.1 update bugs.
I always was an Android user but I'm thinking seriously to leave Android to Windows Phone 10 or even iOS, because with those OS's you will find much more respect, updates & development .
Now Samsung just focusing on Galaxy S6 with an update like every few days to solve S6 issues & they are ignoring the rest of devices, specially a flagship like Note 4

Nope. It's a beautiful device for sure, but I'm going to keep my note 4 till a better, comparably-specced android phone comes out regardless of how long I have to wait. I just bought an extended battery and started the unlocking process, so my N4 is going to be pretty future-proof for a while. There's no rule that says you have to upgrade every year and I'm not going to give up this amazing phone for a side-grade or give up features I use daily just to have something new. I kept my HD2 for years because nothing came out that really wowed me until the GSII was announced, and I have no problem doing the same with this one too.
And also, even if I wanted to upgrade this year I know I would regret making the move to iOS. It's GOOD, don't get me wrong, but after using android for so many years I'm spoiled and I cannot deal with the limitations of iOS. I've had ipods before and I even had a 5s for a while, and I absolutely HATED having to use itunes just to put music on them. It's ridiculous to require a desktop program just to transfer files in the year 2015. I could stream my music, true, but I don't want to run my battery down streaming all the time plus I don't always have the best signal where I live. I want my music ON my phone. If Apple ever adds drag & drop capabilities or allows file system access, then I'd consider an iphone as my main device but not unless that happens(and lets be realistic here- fat chance of that).

Honestly for me there is nothing the iPhone 6S could offer that would make me switch from Android. There are a lot of great phones coming out like the Moto X Pure and a new version of the Nexus 5,to name a few, that will replace my Note 4 when it dies.
Not a chance. Although, the IPhone 6+ has been the most tempted I've been to switch. Thought about it for a day... I just prefer Android, the open source, and the customization.
If you want no sdcard or removable battery just get a note 5. Then at least you can have fun with your phone still. Don't do it!

I phones feel like they are years behind androids in so many ways. The new Iphone is gimmicky with it's 3-d touch sensor. Seriously, the new Iphone now (in the year 2015) gets 4K recording? It also has new 12 Megapixel camera which supposedly is the latest when we have had androids in excess of 20 megapixels around for years? I have never understood why people flock to iOS when it doesn't let you customize the phone to your taste. You are locked into an ecosystem that is in my opinion the "communism of phones." Someone else gets to tell you how you can customize YOUR phone! Many IOS apps are also more expensive than their Android equivalents and they work in the same way. Is the average person really that devoid of taste and the ability to say what they want their Ui to look like that they just have to settle for a phone that has been pre-made/pre-modified in a generic way by someone else? I don't argue that Iphones are reliable and somewhat generically good phones. However, IMHO they are phones made for people who either too lazy to modify their phones into something they really like or just too ignorant to so so.

I've been an Android guy since the Desire HD days, (2010), but before that I had an iPhone. My switch to Android was mainly for the freedom of thinkering, customizing things to my needs and because by that time, devices where usually cheaper.
I have been seriously considering switching back to iPhone, (6s+) specifically, as I feel that in the last years iOS has advanced, as well as Android, greatly.
I buy Nexus devices for the clean Google Android experience, and fast transparent updates with no carrier OEM interaction.
This whole N update has been a disaster IMO, and I'm reluctant to buy a 6p (I'm always one year behind) thinking the same thing will probably happen to it with the Android 8 update. And I always feel as I have to make compromises with my Nexus devices, like the bad camera (IMO) for the N6, or lag after a few days, or the HORRIBLE touch issues on my 2013 Nexus 7 (which I still love).
Not sure if I could handle the change though, will give my wife's iPhone a spin when it receives iOS 10 today.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply, though it seems that the price difference gets smaller each time as the Pixel XL is rumored to cost $649, and the 7s Plus 32GB costs $769.
Honestly not a huge difference, more so when you take in to account that iPhones tend to resale for more (at least here in the states)

The design of the iPhones is superior.
Imo that's the reason why people are so happy to pay the high price.
When we look further.... We have here publications that Apple is fined to pay 13 billion euro. They pay 0,005% taxes instead of 30%.
Apple-like companies are stealing from the community, they use infrastructure etc for free.
Maybe you need a brief break from Android, as i might it is really a personal decision versus specs.
In my opinion, it isn't such a great time to upgrade yet, I honestly wanted to upgrade to the OnePlus 3 but alas, it's GSM only so its bands don't support Verizon. Then I was looking towards the Galaxy Note 7 and was thinking about upgrading, but then the whole battery explosion fiasco happened. Now the iPhone 7 came out and I wasn't amazed one bit. Keep in mind I used to have iPhones since the 3G lineup, but the customization capabilities were so stale and weak so I switched over to Android on the Galaxy S5, never looked back.
If I am to upgrade anytime this year it's going to have to be a "Pixel" device and they're going to have to wow me, otherwise I think I'll hang onto my N6 for another year, still an amazing device
I wouldn't get the 6p, since it is snapdragon 810. Frankly, the 6's 805 is a better chip.
Not sure the reason for the panic about the update, it has only been a few days. They've been adding one device at a time, presumably to let the dust settle on the latest device before moving on to the next one. 6p was the most recent to get the update, only one remaining now is the 6.
The next ones (named pixel instead of nexus?) will be snapdragon 820 or 821, which is finally a good 64bit chip from QC.
IMO the ZTE Axon 7 is the best bang for the buck right now. Flagship specs and all the latest features for $400. You could sell your Nexus 6 for $150-$200 to help offset the cost.

The one benefit of Android is we're really starting to get great phones at a bargain price, something that will never happen to iOS. For instance, my wife got the Amazon-version of the Moto G4 for $125 and it's a pretty amazing phone. Not stock android, and who knows about updates, but it's a great phone for the price.
I'm going to have a lot of trouble upgrading to anything that costs over $300. I'm disappointed that the upcoming Pixel phones are going to be in the Samsung/Apple price range, as opposed to ~$300-400.
After my Nexus 6, I'm considering staying a year behind. Upgrade to a 6p or 5x. Stay in the ecosystem, get the Google updates, get a faster phone but not pay leading-edge prices.
I have three things that keep me from going iPhone and one of them is something I can overlook. I need to have access to the file structure and use my phone as a USB drive. I also need to have the ability to send ANY file to another person via email, like zip files or different image formats like .tiff. The iPhone email restrictions are a deal breaker to me. I also hate having every app on the main screen all of the time, but I can live without it. I'm heavily invested in the Google system, but I'd give that up too.
An iPhone for 99% of people is a solid choice, it's just a fact. But guess what? Android is a solid choice as well. But things like OEM induced OS fragmentation and carrier interference make it a bit less desirable, but Nexus is the way a fix for that. The design is superior except of the fact the iPhone 6 and above bend super easy. I work for a cell repair shop and about half of them are bent when they come in for a screen replacement or any other service. We also have a lot of bad batteries come in, and they get so bloated that they push up the screen. But I guess it is better to bloat than explode like the note 7 lol

Well I enjoy being on the bleeding edge, that is why I bought Nexus and put up with the shortcomings of Nexus, but the way Google has handled N for the N6 leaves a really bad taste. I know it sounds picky but we buy Nexus for the often mentioned Google updates. Not a fan of the 6p but I'm seriosly considering it, maybe I'll get it during Black Friday.

Well, I've found that I can pretty much replace/cover all my needs with Apple Apps. Also, from using my wife's iPhone, I agree with those who say that the Google experience is actually better in iOS now. They even have features/apps we don't have :silly:

Lol, A sturdy case fixes the bending and a battery change fixes the bloating. Nothing fixes a burnt phone, you are right.

Well, I've found that I can pretty much replace/cover all my needs with Apple Apps. Also, from using my wife's iPhone, I agree with those who say that the Google experience is actually better in iOS now. They even have features/apps we don't have :silly:
Lol, A sturdy case fixes the bending and a battery change fixes the bloating. Nothing fixes a burnt phone, you are right.

Well I believe that it depends on the person, I can use a phone without case and it won't have issues, still I use a pretty slim one that provide very little protection.
My wife on the other hand, needs to have her phone encased in an almost military grade cover, my kid the same.
There are just people who take a little bit more care of their phones, or just give it a lot more value, for others it's just another tool so if it falls it falls.
I had the note 7. I tried to like it. I like the camera a lot. But I'm sitting at best buy right now returning the note 7. I knew going into the note 7 that TW was a memory hog but I tried to like it. After using it for a couple of weeks and used my N6 again, I couldn't believe how much quicker everything felt. So here I am, back to the N6, I'll be on the look out for the pixel phones.
Since price and OEM practices of apple arent an issue for you, get an iphone.
iphones are targeted at a specific demographic and it seems you are part of it.
Gonna resurrect this thread since the Pixel phones just came out. I honestly do not find the Pixel (reg and XL) appealing.
I used a co-workers S6 Edge, and I have to admit, it was pretty nice. I would actually go for the Note 7 since I like the bigger screen (yes, explosion, yes fire, just saying).

Hey guys, I have been using the Note 8 for 6 months now and I like the phone over all. Few things I am not finding very comfortable are it's size and the weight. And in general gotten a bit bored of the phone. So, I had been to a local store yesterday and saw the V30 here in India. And I must say I really liked it. The design, the display, the form factor and over all appeal of the phone was really good. The only poor thing was it's front camera. But I am not selfie person so I can live with it. But the wide angle rear camera is dope. I hardly use the portrait mode on the Note 8. But I used to take lot of fun pictures with my G6. So I am thinking of switching to the V30. Has anyone here done it? Or own both the phones? Need some honest opinions
If you are just EVEN considering this, my advice is that you should do it, in my case I would NEVER consider using anything less than a samsung galaxy note series device, for me, it is all about the S PEN, the most unique feature among all other devices, what makes the note series devices stand out, you see, anybody who gets a note device should consider the s pen as the #1 reason, if not, the S+ series would be the logical choice, or other good real flagship for that matter, (LG, sony, apple, google, etc)
Haha. Thanks for the advice. I haven't been able to use anything other than Samsung phones in the last 4 years. And one Major reson for that has been the display and to an extent camera. I love the Note 8 and would have not thought of switching, had I not seen the V30. The V30 is much more comfortable in the hand because of its size, weight and form factor. Also, the POLED screen is so much more better than their old LCD displays. And I even compared the Note 8 to the V30 and to my surprise I sort of liked the V30 better. And even while playing those large 4K videos, the V30 was stutter free while my Note 8 clearly was not as smooth. Nevertheless, I am still super confused, as i fear that i might regret my decision later. I have spent a lot of money on the insurance and on the original Samsung case and resale value is bad here in India. But my gut feeling is to still go ahead and try the V30

I agree, if that's how you feel go for it. Even if someone tries to convince you not to, you already have the thought & may not agree. But if someone tells you reasons why you should you'll probably agree because you have that thought already. People look for assurance to make big decisions, it's human nature. But this decision is yours, it's your personal preference, everyone is different & nothing wrong with that.
My past 2 phones were Notes, I'm a big fan of the SPen. I'm always up for change & consider others. I do look at phones other than Samsung whenever I get a new one. But LG is not one of them. I'm personally not a fan of any of their products except my room AC is LG, their phones & TVs, they never catch my eye. Quality & features seem lacking to me. In the US for T-Mobile we have a Jump On Demand program where after 18 months or something like that you can trade in your phone for some new model. Great for people who like to have the latest & greatest. Do they offer anything like that where you are? It will help your wallet to switch phones often.

To be fair I've never played with a LG TV so I can't really say I don't like them. LG crossed my mind before buying the Note 8. Then I decided to buy an Exynos Note 8 cause I can't live without custom recovery & root cause we only have Snapdragon in the US. But then again if it comes to the day when that's not an option I may switch from Samsung even if not available on other OEMs. There are some Huawei phones that seem nice, I think they will be a great competitor in due time if not already.
That sucks that resale value is low where you are. How about selling on ebay? I've never sold my old phones. Luckily I'm not the type to upgrade phones every year, that would definitely not be good for my wallet as flagship phones cost way too much these days.

Actually on Jump on Demand in teh US, you can trade for other new flagship devices several times a year - the 18 months is the lease term.

OP do as you please. Your money and your choice. V30 excellent phone. LG blows away EVERY phone in audio away. The new LG V30 coming out soon. The LG V30 ThinQ? LG sales have been pretty bad. So now they do slight upgrade from last year flagship huh? Even the new V30 only thing it has over Note 8 is better chip and audio.
Regular V30 only had better audio then Note 8. I do agree V30 looks better. The curved screen is worthless. I'd still take Note 8 over V30. I use to be a die hard LG fan. If you do rock LG stick with V series! There other phones have crap build quality.

So, i could finally come to a decision after i went back to the store again today and played with the V30 for good amount of time. Well, i did one important thing before going to the store, which is, replaced my Note 8 official protective standing case with a local 360 degree case. This had already made a lot of difference in how i felt the Note 8 in the hand. So, while i was checking out the V30 today at the store, i did all the possible tests on how better or worse the screen is compared to the Note 8 and how good or bad the camera is and over all how the feel of holding it is, against the Note 8. But when i finally started typing on the V30, trust me, it literally felt like a toy. I had not felt that way until that moment. I immediately went back to my Note 8 and typed on it and i knew i had the better phone with me. Also, like i said, i had changed the case to a much lighter one which had already made the difference. But when i did try typing on the V30, i knew why i had paid those extra dollars for the Note 8. Happily came back home and not going to probably check any other phones until the Note 9 or Pixel 3 XL comes out. Thanks again for all the responses. My Note is here to Stay for longer
Edit: Changing the case to a lighter one would have made it more vulnerable to breaking, but hey, what is the insurance for after all?

That's why I don't bother upgrading every year, waste of money IMO. Usually need 2 generations to see worthy differences. Same with Android versions, need to 2 letter versions to see noticeable differences. That's why I don't understand why everyone was so anxious to get Oreo. Now that it's here, nothing exciting about it & different than all the past Oreo reviews.

Agreed 100%. 1k a year for a phone? No thanks. $500 not to bad. Yeah Oreo doesn't seem much different. We should get Android P, but that will be a while. Like you pointed out usually takes 2 generations to see a worthy difference. In regards to new features and better specs. Some people want newest phone though. For those people do as you will. Others that on the fence really read into what we're saying.

I can not justify spending $1000 plus for a phone, especially when you can buy devices with relatively clean Android, hardware as good and in some cases better for $100s of dollars less.
How does somebody buy a Samsung device for say $1100.00 when the can but a OnePlus for $600.... ?
For me, the most important factor is the screen. Samsung is the only manufactorer I know that has the best screen, great hardware, and decent software. The bloatware could possibly be removed and I wish it could be cheaper.
I am actually using a Pixel 3 XL now. The software is clean but boring. I am mostly disappointed with the hardware. That I why I am waiting for the GS10.

I actually love my Pixel 3Xl and got tired of Samsung taking 6 + months to update the phones to new OS. After owning every generation of Note, I got tired of no root and locked down bootloaders. Despite the great screens, I'm staying on the pixel side.

First thing is that I love the Galaxy series.
Why Samsung??
All I am gonna do is just browse through Internet,social media, capture some decent looking pictures and I need phone with a display which is best in industry and has a great design and build quality.
When I think of all these the only thing that comes to my mind is the Galaxy series. I agree that OP phones are faster than the galaxy series but when it comes design and build samsung is well better.
Best quality display is keeping the samsung unique in the market. Viewing angles is great in samsung displays. Especially in camera it has variable aperture and a super slow motion. And still it has a headphone jack and micro SD slot.

Samsung devices are not, the provider branded versions are, but that is equally true of all branded devices.
The Samsung Device that would be in the $1100 price range is going to be light years more advanced in power, storage, and just tech in general than the $600 one from OnePlus. Now if you Compare the $600 Samsung device to the $600 OnePlus device then you getting closer, but the Samsung device is still going to be more advanced, the gap just will not be nearly as big.

Samsung doesn't take that long, unless it is a rather old phone. The people taking that long are the Wireless providers who take their sweet time removing all the good stuff and adding different bloatware.

I really wish that Samsung would just start getting some of their CDMA radios from Intel, that way we could get an Exynos chipset with an unlockable bootloader that is easily useable on Verizon and Sprint.

I beg to differ from you. While preliminary versions of Android Q are already being worked on and tested in the wild, my Note 8 still sits on Oreo. I know there is an unofficial version of Pie for it, but not the official version yet . This is over 7 months after Pie was released. I've had every note that came out except the original. I bought my Note 8 on day 1 when it came out and paid about $950 after taxes. It was by no means a cheap device at the time. At the time, people who had unlocked exynox versions were upset because their updates which were supposed to come directly from Samsung were taking even longer than the carrier ones. Read up on it. Samsung + carrier delays are horrendous. IMO, It's embarrassing that what was once considered their top device would take 7+ months to receive an official software update.

The Note 9 came out with Oreo as well as pretty much all the other myriad Samsung phones in that same release year. The Note 8 getting Pie only 6 months (the global Samsung release is this month) after Pie is officially released is impressive given the number of phones ahead of it. If your phone is not getting it this month it is due to the branding of your phone and that wireless provider holding it up.

Global release means nothing if only a few people get it or only a few versions of the phone get it at that time. The point I'm making is that IMO it's pathetic Samsung takes even 6 months to update the OS on a phone that was a flagship when it came out a bit over a year ago. The Note 9 is all they care about right now since it's the latest one out but soon enough once they have your money, they'll care only about the S10. IMO, Samsung has an obligation to upgrade phones quickly and timely, specially on devices they charged nearly 1k and were/had flagship status when released. Meanwhile, phones like the Essential (practically unknown and on sale for $239 on Amazon get it on the day is released by Google). I clearly get the concept of skins added on to the OS to provide extra features which adds to testing time etc... but IMO 6 month + is a pathetic timeline for a flagship phone. As per your thinking, I suggest Samsung adds a disclaimer to the box of a new phone which states "Due to the impressive number of phones made ahead of yours, updates will come on this flagship 6+ months after the official release date". I wonder how many people would buy it if they came clear and admitted it? As much as I love Samsung (proof is that I've owned almost every note), I do not excuse their shortcomings when it comes to OS updates.

Samsung offer a lot more hardware than a OnePlus. Waterproofing, headphone jack, heart rate scanner, better cooling/heatsink. Also wireless charging, MST payment (very useful in Asian countries where NFC payments are non existent), better screen, better camera.
I have owned both OnePlus(3) and Samsung (Note 8) devices. In general, I have observed that the Note 8 receives monthly updates which are extremely stable. Whereas OnePlus has released half baked updates (like 7.0 for OP3) followed by hotfixes.
Honestly, if OnePlus for still around the 450$ price, it would be unbeatable.

Apple updates its iOS software incrementally over the year until a revamp of the operating system is released before new iPhones come out in September. The same can also be said of Android where the operating system gets a new refresh once a year. Two different O/S ecosystems, two different O/S update systems. You can't make everyone happy.

The galaxy S10 is actually cheaper than the 2017's iPhone X in my country :/
We can pre order it for 929$ with a free galaxy watch and a free wireless charger, while the iPhone X is for 950$+
Also the apple "lower end" iPhone XR is more expensive than the S10...
I am talking about the regular S10, not the S10 plus or the S10e.
Samsung offers more than apple and is still cheaper, it offers more than any android phone also. They have everything you can ask for in a smartphone.

New iphones and ipad screens are pretty dang amazing. I didnt think so till my wife won the latest gen ipad pro at work in a contest. The screen is by far superior to any samsung tablet or phone I have seen.
To me there is no other brand other than Samsung - 0 competition. Sammy has everything in one device and that's why I love them. You don't need to have the latest Android update right away as many features are already existent in the device even if it's on an older software version. Best screen, best camera, has headphone jack, ultrasonic fp scanner, super premium build, amazing hardware. List goes on, I'm just waiting for them to get rid of the hole(s) and will get that Note (10 or 11 hopefully).

Note 10 is a definite no. The Note 10 will be pretty much the S10 with a slightly larger screen and S-Pen goodies. They've never strayed too far from the S line when it comes to the Note. It's bigger, more powerful, etc. but it usually doesn't stray far from the S version of its year.

1st off I always buy the unlocked version of the latest Galaxy S phone so I do not have all the nasty bloatware which comes from the carriers. The unlocked versions are very clean.
Regarding price, I'm looking at pre-ordering the S10+ for $999 (It will end up costing me $599 after trading in my old phone + using a gift card from xmas) Yes it will be the most I've ever paid for a new phone, but Samsung screens cannot be beat. I love the triple camera (which just received the highest camera rating of any cell phone from DXO - tied with Huawei Mate 20), ultrasonic FP reader, headphone jack, SD card slot, waterproofing, wireless charging, and pre-orders are coming with free Samsung AirPods. I also really like the automatic 42% blue light reduction. That should help alleviate some eye strain. I like that the Sammy AirPods can charge wirelessly by simply setting the case on the back of the phone.
Having said all that, I am disappointed the S10 has only increased the charge rate by 29%. I was hoping for something closer to 100%. That is one area where I feel other phones like OnePlus and Huawei have an advantage in charging speed.
In any case, I will pre-order the S10+, but in the future I will certainly be watching carefully the OnePlus 7, MI 9, and other high end but less expensive phones.
