Has anyone else had a case of his phone bending?
A couple of days ago, after taking it out of my pocket, I realized that its quite bent around the power button. Sadly, I don't have a picture since I straightened it out by using a bit of force but it was pretty obvious. Might be the heat over the last couple of days that has an impact on this, but none of my previous phones had this problem.
It looked like the Iphone 6 case of phone bending pretty much, so I'm just wondering has anyone else had this problem?
I had the same problem couple days ago. It is still under investigation by the Care Center in Hungary. I used the phone for navigation, after that I noticed the bended chasis.

Sorry to hear that, I really like this phone but this issue is quite worrying. Could you post what the Care Center said after the investigation is finished?

They said that was the first issue with the P10, and they had no spare parts to fix it. "Unspecified failure", this was written on the service report. I got a voucher, with it I can go to the service provider, and choose sg. else. Anyway, the Huawei handled well the situation, but I still don't know what happened.

After i straightened it by using a bit of force, it hasn't bent again. I guess we should just be careful when sitting with it in pockets.

Yes it was, though you should probably be careful with tight jeans.
I never carry it in my back pockets to be sure that I don't sit on it.

Ok I don't own any tight jeans . Anyways glad to hear that your P10 phone has stayed in shape. My own P10 plus was three days old when I noticed that it was skewed - the shop replaced the phone without any questions. But I do find it strange, since I only had in my front pocket in my shorts which are not tight - so I take it my device was faulty from the start Anyways thanks for replying. Cheers :good:
Same here, my son has had the phone for about 5 weeks, its bent and the casing has cracked just above the button were the bend is. Not been misused at all. Phoned ao they put me through to Hawaii who said I have to send it to them to be inspected, but he was implying it had been misused and if that is the case then I will have to pay for the inspection!
P 10 DS
I have my P10 DS for 9 months and software are froze himself, and send him on servise. On servise they say the phone is broken. And they want to charge me for 105 € for that. They refuse to servise the problem cuz i refuse to pay that amount for that ridicule mechanical damage.

I cross my fingers x) 3 weeks to wait (maybe less).

It is hard to believe, the display is real **** of the D2.
I was super careful, did not drop the phone or anything. Already after the 2nd day of owning it, the display is broken.
I had it in the leather pouch in my pocket and when I pull it out to use it, I see some liquid under the display. Now the display does not react anymore.
No idea what to do...
has this happened to you before?
Hi
Sorry to hear the screen is broken, if you mean you had it in your trouser pocket this is very likely the reason. They should never ever be put in a trouser pocket, a mobile phone might be built to withstand it, but not a mobile PDA such as these. The problem is they are all screen, and any pressure bending the chassis, or keys or coins pressing against the screen are going to cause problems.
Depending on where you bought it you might be able to send it back to the place of purchase, or try a warranty repair with HTC, however other people have reported that problems such as this with the screen are excluded from warranty.
Regards
Phil
This screen issue does worry me; it does seem to have afflicted quite a few users. I regard myself a a very careful user, my "gadgets" are rarely scratched or marked.
But, I keep the D2 in a soft pouch in my jacket pocket. Evertime I get it out there's an irrational urge to worry if the screen's still OK. This will probably subside with time, I admit.
What worries me is if the pouch gets "poked" on the screen side whilst in my jacket. I would expect a portable device to be at least a bit resistant to this treatment. The D2 does appear to have a "delicate" screen, which would benefit from being stored in a pouch with a hard protective panel on the screen side. If only for peace of mind.
Thanks for the kind words. I just left the phone alone for about 3 hours and the liquid behind the display has disappeared. It seems like it fixed itself, which I do not understand.
I will monitor it and treat it carefully, however it looks like this could be a common problem, as I really did not drop it nor knock it.
If anyone else has had a similar experience, I would be interested to know about. I actually may call XDA and ask them how this happens...it's looking good so far...

@cencored: Perhaps it was just moisture which has dried out? I've read before this can happen if the screen gets damp (although the symptom for actual physical screen damage sounds very similar).
I remember my Diamond2 coming with an extra message in the package stating you should never keep it in the pockets of your trousers.
i have had my D2 for 1month and a half. i havn't had any problems with it except some dust getting under the screen which i fixed it.
I misplaced the slip case that came with my TD2, ordered a new one of the interweb but in the 2 days it too k to arrive my screen got scratched. Given the real beauty of this device is the screen and it;'s resoloution I am gutted to the point that even though it is still 100% functional and the scratches are really very small I may look at the cost of a new screen.
Why don't they make phone screens out of the same glass they make watch glass with? I don't feel the need to put a watch protector on the glass of my watch, and it seems to need a lot of abuse before it gets scratched or chipped.

This is a little difficult for "touch"-screen, because it will not respond
I always have my phone in the trouserpocket, but because I know I'm not very carefull with al lot of things, I have a leather case with hard top.
I friend of mine had complaints about damp in his diplay.
They said never to keep your phone in your trouserpocket and never use it in the bathroom
well the touchscreen means that the protection foil must me sensitive to touch. I carry my TD 2 in my backpack. ALWAYS. I know that there are problems with the screen. Yes, there was a message that came with the TD 2 pack: something like don't sit when your phone is in your pocket. Still, better safe than sorry
The other day, I noticed my phone stopped ringing, but was still vibrating. I did everything that I could to try to get the phone to play sound through the external speaker, but I got nothing. I eventually did the ODIN 1 click to restore and I'm still getting no sound. I took the phone apart to check to see if the speaker cable was loose, but everything is in tact...
Does anyone know what Samsung support is like? I loved being able to take my iPhone into any Apple store to get it swapped out for any issues. Is it the same with the Captivate and any AT&T store? I bought the phone from Best Buy.
How long has it been since you got the phone? Since you bought it from best buy I'm guessing you should take it there first if anywhere. They might swap you for a new one within 30 days of the purchase, but that's just a general warranty dealy that may not apply to phones. In any case I'd hit best buy first, because unless you bought it from the at&t store, I'm not sure If they'd help you that much as far as replacements go.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
take off the battery cover and press down on the speaker.
Best buy will replace the phone within the 30 day buyers remorse period.
After that you have to go through AT&T Warranty dept (not the store). They will advance you a refurb phone, and give you stuff to send back.
On that note hopefully you are within 30 days so you get a brand new phone from BB.
I just had this happen to me for the first time today, and pushing hard on the speaker fixes it for me, too. For now. Not a good sign. I think today is my 29th day...gotta make a quick decision. Time to read up on restoring to factory default...I've rooted and lagfixed this guy.

Just do the one click recovery thing on it and exchange it, it's only gonna get worse.
i've got a replacement captivate now, but my old one did that once. no sound at all. i rebooted and it came back though.
Same problem
I am having exactly the same problem does anyone know how to fix it? :S i root it yesterday and tried the lag fix thingy.
I had the same problem. It happened on the night of the 29th day of owning the phone, the next day I took it to the closest AT&T Warranty Exchange center (or whatever they call it) and got a new phone.
I had this happen to me a few weeks ago, lucky for me it had only been like two weeks since I had bought the phone. I got it from At&t and just went back there and they gave me a new one. Does anyone know what causes this?
Fixed
I had the same problem...had tried the Odin One-Click restore, tried restoring, and several other things.
Do what VZSpyder says above...remove the battery cover and press down on the speaker. It immediately started working.
<<-- also a victim of the speaker issue. Pressing down on it has worked for about a month now. But the whole issue is a sign of larger problems I feel plague this handset.
I learned the hard way not to trust this thing as an alarm clock when the speaker glitch started showing itself.
The Samsung captivate has been by far the most problem prone phone or PDA I have had in my possession since 2002.
Actually, I haven't found any activity I can truly trust this phone to perform. It seems to randomly be unable to fulfill every task it is theoretically capable of.
Solutions to Captivate Speaker Issue
Ok, so I had my Samsung Captivate speaker cut out entirely last night and was, needless to say, very disappointed. However, I still believe it is a good phone, I cling to this notion despite the ribbing I took from my friends when the speaker cut out during a YouTube video. Grrrr... Anyway, and more to the point, what follows is my fix.
First, I pressed firmly on the speaker as suggested by many bloggers and the speaker started working again. Hooray! However, like many Captivate owners, I find this temporary fix, "unacceptable on principle alone." Ever the tinkerer and problem-solver, I thought there must be a low-tech solution to this issue as it appears to be related to the small 16mm x 5mm speaker unit’s unseen electronic contacts.
I thought: “If only there were a way to provide constant gentle pressure to the speaker unit without interfering with its performance or voiding the phone’s warranty, gentle but firm pressure that would stabilize the speaker unit and perhaps add a level of protection from vibration.” Here is what I came up with and I believe that it is quite possibly the lowest cost solution ever stumbled upon by a mere mortal.
I took one small "3M Command™ Strip," of the 16mm width variety associated with 3M's wonderful "Damage-Free Hanging Wall Solution" collection of devices. At one end of each Command™ Strip there is a 5mm section of the strip that is sticky on one side, the so-called “wall-side,” while the other side is adhesive free. I cut this end off producing a 5mm wide and 16mm long strip which has friendly adhesive only on one side. I then cut that strip to produce one 2mm wide and one 3mm wide strip exactly 16mm long.
Since the speaker unit is about 16mm long and 10mm wide, I then applied the 2mm x 16mm strip at the outermost boundary of the top of the speaker unit (closest to the camera lens) and the 3mm x 16mm strip at the outermost boundary at the bottom of the unit (closest to the battery). This seems to leave the tiny speaker grill, roughly 5mm wide, unimpeded and once the metal cover is put back in place it could, in theory, provide enough gentle pressure on the speaker unit to stabilize it and perhaps prevent a loss of electrical contact in the event of vibration and associated shifting or, God forbid, a small drop.
Stupid Speakers...
I have a similar problem with my Captivate's sound. Randomly, the sound will drop to almost nothing, though it is still audible if you put it right up to your ear.... Just barely.
It seems to "fix" itself if I gently tap the phone or drop it on a table or something... Could this be something similar? Perhaps electrical connections not being seated firmly?
it IS an electrical connection not sitting correctly.
press firmly on the left area beside the grill.
or take back for warranty.
if you dont have warranty, open it up press the connection back down and apply a peice of scotch tape over it.
Replacement doesn't help. I've got a new speaker put in by samsung .and 2days later. Same thing. I just havea small piece of paper behind the back plate to keep pressure on it.works well

I had the same thing happen to me. I just took it back and got another one. A little tip for those that don't like this or any other phone for that mater.
If you phone is still under warranty call/take it in 3 times. After 3 times you can request a different phone. Just be sure to pick one that is atleast as good or better.
I have used this method to get pseudo free upgrades for years now.

Buy a clear case if you still want to keep the style. If you want to try warranty and claim it a defect, go ahead. Rooting and unlocking the bootloader will not deny you warranty for physical problems like yours.

Give the guy a break. I've had the phone since release day and have the same issue. In fact, my phone already had one faded spot on the battery cover when I pulled it out of the box brand new.
also another thing i keep noticing and its bothering me for some reason.. when phone is on or lit.. wenever i tilt the phone down or sideways and look at the edges of lcd i can see white line running across i don't know if that's normal part of the lcd or not..

I think that's probably back light bleed you're seeing. It's common on most LCD displays.
will it eventually spread? is it common with all Vivids?? can anyone else notice it?

Mine has a little fading, but thats just because I decided to slide it over to someone (numerous times back n forth) while not in the right of mind... But mines not nearly that bad.

That's just the back light lighting up the edge of the glass. No, it won't spread.
On a side note, it seems like you're trying to talk yourself into getting rid of it anyways, no?
I had the same thing happen to me about a week after I got my Vivid. I had no idea what it was, I assumed it occurred from when I dropped the phone once.
Do you have granite lining your pockets? I can't even fathom how this would happen. I have a white Vivid, so the paint could be different, but I have had a lot of phones and never used a case on any of them and I have yet to even scratch one. The closest I ever came to the kind of damage you're showing is when I used to slide a Blackberry curve in and out of a plastic clip holster numerous times/day. I can't fathom how jean pockets can do this to a phone.

Me too, brother, though it was the best $600 I've spent in a long time. Way happier with this phone than my iPhone 4s and most of the other Android phones I have had.
I stopped in my local Gamestop yesterday to pickup Madden 13 and ended up leaving with a Nexus 7 too lol. Ill be giving this one to my gf but I just wanted to post a few pics of some things that may be slightly different about the C80 production runs. I didnt do a complete teardown of the unit so I cant say if any changes have been made to combat the over exaggerated screen lift stuff but I have noticed a few small changes. I honestly dont think anything has really changed in terms of manufacturing but these units had just came in yesterday morning so im assuming it was a fresh batch.
First up is the box. Im not sure when they made this change but my C70 didnt have the notches on the box for easy opening. I remember kinda having a hard time separating the box when I first got my C70.

Second thing I noticed was the C80 units have a few screws missing. Im not sure if this is something they just started doing, but I exchanged three C80 units at Gamestop yesterday because me and the manager thought it was a flaw but all 3 random units had the two missing screws.
Here are a few shots of the back cover and unit. Im not sure if anything is different but maybe someone whos more familiar with the insides may notice something.
I did noticed the serial # on the rear sticker is now printed in white as opposed to black:
They probably realized all those screws put too much pressure & therefore causing lift.

Yeah I figured they did it for a reason. Hopefully we can a confirmation on this so I can know if my units are in fact missing screws.
My C80 should be at my doorstep within a couple hours. Having accidentally cracked the screen on my C60 while trying to fix the screen lift, I hope this is is void of issues.

Nice! Please keep us updated on your C80 findings. My C60 cracked randomly the other day (sent an email from it, walked to my car, looked down, cracked) and I sent it in to ASUS. Part of me wonders if the C80's are fixed enough to prevent this from happening to anybody else.

Yeah man, for sure. First thing I do after opening it will be sharing what I find with everyone. And I can 100% sympathize with a cracked screen haha, its an awful feeling that you have to eat the $200-250 and get a new one :/
I removed those 2 screws on my C70 just now If the reason is in fact to reduce the stress on the screen to reduce cracking, then maybe it's recommended C60 and C70 owners to do this too?
Hi!!!
Sorry my english is so bad...
I have just opened my tablet, it is the C80 version too. And there are missing the same screws as in your tablet.

Sweet! So I guess this was something done on purpose. I'll see if I can get a official word from Asus regarding this. It would be kinda funny if all the people returning earlier built tablets because of missing screws found out it was done like that intentionally lol.
I also have removed those screws on my C6O. The screen is not lifted now, and when i put pressure on the opposite corners of tablet, i don`t hear crackling.
I hope it will be pernament fix of this problem.

Wow this is interesting. Gonna remove those screws from mine too.
Alright, so I just got mine in the mail (my second purchase) and I was VERY disappointed at first. I received a C60...... WTF? So I open it up and the screen is flush, not lower than bezel, flush.... all around. ZERO screen flicker, ZERO light bleed, very responsive, colors are correct, no dead pixels, speakers work, some ghosting on max brightness, but that is to be expected of IPS screens. Now I need to get it super hot and see if the screen stays. If there is anything I missed I will post it. Oh, and it also looks like my box had been re-used because there was a second layer of tape on the black box. Was mine refurbished? Who cares, so far so good.

If there is anything I missed I will post it. Oh, and it also looks like my box had been re-used because there was a second layer of tape on the black box. Was mine refurbished? Not sure how easy your back was to get off on your last unit, but with mine, I had to use quite a bit of effort on my C70 (fingernail + credit card + force)

My last replacement was a C70 and had the screws removed.
can someone with a c08 model take a better pic of the back cover off? theres two clips on the left side that goes over where the screen data ribbon is and just wanted to know if they change those at all. this point is where a lot of people get screen lift.
Dear XDA users,
I bought my Mi 9 early April and after less than a month I have found the back glass broken like this when taking the phone out of my jeans pocket :

The phone never fell (it has absolutely no marks on the outer metal), I did not perform any special/unusual move with the phone in my pocket, and there was no other items in that pocket (I am used to carry all my phones that way for years).
But this time I just found the mobile like that when I took it out. Note that I am not using any kind of protection.
So I wonder if I just had extreme bad luck or if more devices may have a fragility on their back glass ?
Maybe there was some keys or coins in you pocket and sitting with jeans make some pressure on phones

No as I wrote above there was nothing else in my pocket. I am used to live and travel with all my phones like that for a dozen years, and I never put anything else in the same pocket to avoid damaging the screen. It worked fine until now...
I wonder if it accidentally got hit or something, I know you said no but it looks like that section near the usbc port is took a hit of some sort.
I had my oneplus back crack, only a few weeks old, never dropped etc but I chalked it up to it must have inadvertently got hit somehow/someway without be knowing as I didn't find others with the same issue.

The cracks in the glass seem to start from the bottom indeed, but I can assure you that the metal all around the usbc is totally clean (there is a small white reflection there on the picture which may be seen as a damage, but it's not).
I cannot exclude that I missed a "hit" on my pocket during the hour which elapsed since the previous phone usage, but it would still be extremely weak for a gorilla glass 5 to break with a "hit" that I wouldn't have felt or noticed :/

Just looking around, can order a new back glass for $10 and it looks simple to replace. That's good at least.

Replacement back here
It's 3D glass. NEVER leave it unprotected.
2.5D glass on iPhones are much weaker as well (like the front of the Mi 9 which is very close).
3D glass or Edge-Glass (think Samsung Galaxy S7/8/9/10) is also amongst the worst.
No one should go without, AT LEAST, the included case, just because the camera glass isn't sapphire-crystal (9H) but sapphire-glass (5.5H) - like JerryRigEverything test has shown.

Thank you very much for the links. I don't have the tool to heat the back but I may try to get it done in a repair shop.

I had a Galaxy S7 before the Mi 9, two years in my pocket exactly the same way with no protections, never had a scratch on the screen or back
Same issue repeated with the rear glass on Mi9
My phone is in a robust case and the rear glass has been broken 3 times now! I have never broken any screen before and I have had phones for over 25 years.
Hi,
I just realize that I forgot to provide feedback here.
So I bought this back cover on Aliexpress : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33009357325.html
An this heat gun : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32966891985.html
I replaced the back cover myself and it was quite easy. Have a look at video like this one before : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta_vYqOfK0Q
Since then, I am enjoying my Mi 9 and never had any problem with broken back or front glass anymore (although I still don't use any cover and hold the phone in my pocket...).
I think that the original back cover that I had was faulty, although Xiaomi never accepted that and refused to repair under warranty.
Good luck with yours !
Laurent
Thanks I will give it a try.
I have purchased all of the replacement screens do far from eBay..
Looks like bad luck. I don't use a case on my Mi 9 with no issues. The back is all scratched up, but no cracks.
