Listening to SMS through bluetooth A2DP - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hey all, I am trying to use the profile guide by fireattack7 (credits to him) to read my incoming messages through Bluetooth while driving. The "task" works when i click play in tasker. But when I connect it to my cars Bluetooth there is nothing. My Honda 2011 Accord doesn't have the A2DP Bluetooth function is that why?

I don't think it's the lack of A2DP. When you say the task "works" when you click play, what does that mean? Just that you can see it stepping through each action and completing?
What stream are you using to output the say action? Mine works through my BT headset just fine using system, but maybe you need to play with that setting. I'd try media first.
I am assuming that you are able to stream other things to your head unit from the phone, right?

My fault about the cross post, wasn't sure if that thread would be seen since its about a year old.
I mean when i click play I see it step through the actions and it reads my previous text message and if I reply "yes" it sends it. I have tried all of the streams and none of them work through the BT. If I use media it would play through my AUX cord.

I would start by ensuring *anything* from my device could stream over BT to the head unit. Make sure to double check the settings for the connection in your devices Bluetooth list. If media is not enabled there, then nothing on the media stream will play through the connection.
It's tough to trouble shoot a task if you're not sure you're even connecting.

The phone is paired, and if I receive a phone call it will go through my cars Bluetooth no problem, I can answer it and hang up using the steering wheel buttons, but like I mentioned my car doesnt have the A2DP function so something like music from Spotify, Google Music can only be heard through an AUX cord in the car. Thanks for the help.

A2DP and bluetooth media streaming are not exclusive. A2DP is the protocol for stereo streaming.
Consider getting a cheap dongle for your head unit.

BTW, you should try changing the say action stream to "call" it'll probably play it through your existing connection.

Music Thru Car BlueTooth

Is there a app that will allow music to play thru the Bluetooth in my car?
I have a stock radio that has bluetooth, I can make & receive calls in my car using the bluetooth. However I can NOT play music on my phone and hear it thru my car speakers.
Is there a app solution to this or something else to get this to work
TIA
I would love this...

I'm not understanding the question. Any music player on the G1 (with 1.5) can play music over AD2P through your car headunit. I do it all the time. I can also pause/play and track-forward/back using the headunit's controls.

Not all bluetooth devices support the a2dp profile, some just act as a headset, I've seen similar requests for people wanting audio streamed to a blue tooth headset that doesn't support a2dp either.
As long as your running 1.5 and the latest radio that goes with it, you should be able to get A2DP working without any other applications. Just pair up your car stereo with your phone and it should automatically detect the profile and start piping audio through.

Exactly, I believe my car stereo does NOT support A2DP. I have no problems playing/hearing music thru my Motorola HT820 or my PC.

Long press "Bluetooth Handsfree" and select options. Under profiles you should see a Media profile and it should be checked. If you do not see this, your stereo does not support A2DP.
edit: If your stereo has a line out jack, you can get something like this to make your system A2DP capable without buying a whole new stereo.

Thanks for the tip
I checked under options and it does not show a "Media" profile
My stereo does have a line out jack, but Im not sure I want to spend $100+ on a gadget.
Im hoping some bright app developer can make a app to some how trick my stereo into thinking its a call as my phone plays music
Wishful thinking? I think not, Im sure someone can make it work. I do remember when people said transfering files via Bluetooth was impossible! But now we can with Bluex.

Not possible. The way bluetooth works is that the both devices have to have the same profile in common to communicate with each other. Your phone supports it, your car stereo does not. With OBEX, other devices supported it but the phone did not. To get this working you would either need to hack your stereo to enable the A2DP profile, get a bluetooth gateway (like what I have) or get a new stereo receiver that supports A2DP out of the box.
From experience I can say that the gateway is the best option. I got mine on sale for under $50 at buy.com and it works beautifully. My phone automatically pairs with it when my car turns on and I can make/receive calls as well as listen to music no problem.

He already said other handsets support sending audio to BT devices that don't support A2DP, it's just a matter if the underlying Android OS supports sending audio streaming to non-A2DP devices, eg faking a phone call basically, or not. Or if it can easily be hacked in by someone.
I'm guessing this may require screwing about with the underlying OS code, an app alone may not be able to do it without OS support.
At least I understand the question better now You want an app developer to create something that allows the phone to make up for what's lacking in your headunit.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the "headset" profile mono by definition? Are you cool with giving up stereo and audio quality just to get your music over bluetooth to your headunit?
I won't say it's not possible. I've been wrong before on pronouncements like that. But app development is driven by need in the Android world (usually the developer's need first). I hope there's a big enough need that someone will help you out.

The same arguments are made about MP3 v lossless compression, and it turns out people do accept these sort of limitations after all
I don't know enough about the bluetooth standards to even know where to begin making such an app, and I don't plan to start reading up to find out
While not as cheap as a BT audio gateway option, but you can get an inline BT attachment to suit non-BT enabled car radios to support A2DP and for those of you still using phones to talk to others you can even use it as a hands free car kit which uses the car speaks...

I'm glad my unit already does this. But I never use it.
Its worse than just being mono... headset profile is actually a much lower quality... phone quality.
Bluetooth A2DP Audio Gateways
I've been trying to do the same thing as OP, except my stereo does NOT have bluetooth. It does have an aux in down by the cigarette lighter. I've been googling like a fool and researching available bluetooth gateways, thanks to the poster that pointed us towards that Kensington unit. I'm not willing to spend $100 US on this functionality. I have, however, found a nice little device I plan to pick up soon.
RIM Blackberry Bluetooth Audio Gateway
Check it out here: http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=20932
Hope this helps OP and any others that may have similar issues.

anyway there's a long tread about 3.5 bluetooth dongle Here
I know it's old, but in case anyone stumbles on this thread, try btmono (an app on Google play) It puts audio through a mono headset such as that described above. Cheers

Car stereo hijacks bluetooth media connection

I have a Pioneer car stereo with built in Parrot bluetooth and media connection. I had this issue with my previous phone so it must be either an Android issue or problem with my car stereo bluetooth. Every time I connect bluetooth to the car stereo the phone enables media connectivity and I have to manually go in and turn it off again. Sometimes I have to turn it on and off again as it says it's connected even though it isn't (tick box is ticked but if I untick it it connects and I have to untick it again and OK it to verify). Also if I disconnect it then cycle through the sources on the car stereo as soon as I get to bluetooth it enables it again.
I don't want it on because I want to hear media audio through the phone speakers and phone calls through the car stereo.
Android 4.1.2 at present.

I think the answer lies in the question here,, Parrot Bluetooth Media Connection.
The stereo isn't 'smart' enough to determine that what is connecting to it is a Phone/MP3 and as such you wont be able to split the audio to have the phone play music and the Stereo take calls, it'll end up being one over the other.
One way around this would be to test with a completely different Bluetooth Headset to see if this allows music to be played on the Device and Calls to come through on the Headset,, failing that its going to have to be a potential dev jobby to split how the device sends its audio and to what specific device,,, if that lies with HTC and Android/Us or Pioneer/Parrot themselves,, might be worth asking whats the official standpoint on this with the Manufacturer and see if they are getting this same issue from multiple folks

I have the same problem with my HTC One across four different ROMs, two GE and two Sense.
It's NOT an issue with my car stereo (uConnect system) as it works flawlessly on my Nexus 7 and VZW Galaxy Nexus. I prefer to have media (music, Ingress etc...) play over the phone. Only thing I want to play over the uConnect is the actual phone. No matter how many times I unselect media in the bluetooth settings it selects it again.
I see this is an old thread, anyone have any ideas?
Nope. It does not always do it though. I found that if I leave bluetooth on it seems to be OK just as long as I don't switch through from aux to radio to CD and back to USB again on the Pioneer. If I use the automatic bluetooth app to save battery it connects but then connects with the media option enabled. Bummer.

bluetooth problem
Hi developers: Thanks Team Venom for a great ROM. I have only one problem. Rom 2.7 no problem with Bluetooth in the car. 3.1 Installation of clean and dirty disables bluetooth. Ten seconds connected and then disconnected. Again, connects and disconnects. So it all over again. It is in version 3.6 ... any change BT software? You can install the software separately BT? Or any other advice? Thank you very much
edit: I deleted the original settings in the car. Again the connection and still the same problem.

Interesting thing I discovered with Chromecast app and bluetoooth headset

I discovered that when using my bluetooth headsets with my phone the Chromecast icon appears in supported apps and clicking it will toggle audio from my BT headset/headphones to my device and back.
Nothing major but I found it interesting. Normally I'd have to turn of the BT headset or go into BT settings to accomplish this. Comes in handy if you are listening privatly to YouTube or something and want to share with someone.
Haven't tested a call so not sure if calls would still be to the headset or not, or just media audio.
I noticed the same thing last weekend. I also noticed another oddity: Once I connected to the bluetooth headset, it wouldn't allow me to cast back to my Chromecast again. Each time I'd hit the cast icon, it would toggle between the speaker and the headset, but I couldn't seem to make it go to the TV. I seem to recall I had to either turn off bluetooth on my Note 2, or reboot the phone entirely before it would let me cast to the TV again.

Just tried it and at first it one gave me the choice between mt BT device and my Tablet, but less than a minute later it started to show the Chromecast as an option and it worked.
If I'm off the Network my Chromecast is on the button only works to goggle audio between my BT and Device (Phone/Tablet).

Bluetooth Bug

This only happens in my car but...
When I start the car, my handset connects.b, but the music will not play through the car. To get it to work, I have to wait until the car connects with my phone, then turn BT off and on again. Every time. Anyone else suffering from this.
My Bluetooth is working with my car. This is normal procedure that it will take a couple second to sync phone with car system. So even after a 1 minute even you load up Pandora radio or anything, it wont play on your car's stereo ? do you get any error message on phone ? The only thing which i noticed is missing artist and song title tag on my car's screen. I think it is caused by Pandora radio, cause when I restart Pandora, it will work fine. Try to reset your phone or 1st delete Bluetooth car sync profile and re-sync again. Good luck.
Do you have a Bluetooth headset connected when you connect to your car?
If so, go in to your BT device profiles on the phone, open up your headset, and disable media audio.

No message on the phone. I play though Google Music and on the phone it looks like it is playing as normal. I'm only using a simple BT device that conects through the aux port as Ford want a small fortune to supply the bluetooth adapter. I'll have a little play though, thanks for the advice.

No headset connected, nothing else via BT in range to connect to. I'll see if I can find anything else in the profiles though.
Maybe it's Google music. I will try to play music whatever it's store on your memory. I know it seems stupid but it's good to try it. I tried my nexus on my friend's car and no issues. He own Audi, I got Hyundai with navigation. Anyway there is not a lot settings regarding Bluetooth. Like I said before, might be worth to reset phone .
I have a similar issue and it is only with my car as well. It pairs up, the bluetooth audio controls on the stereo come up, but it doesn't play unless I hit play on the phone. After that, I can skip tracks, pause, etc. This happens about 90% of the time, to the point where it almost catches me off guard when it works like it is supposed to. This did not happen with my previous phone (HTC One M8) or any of the iPhone versions I had before it.

Note 8 keeps trying to connect to another BT device

Situation:
when my NOTE 8 is connected to my LEVEL U PRO and i get in my car, phone continuously pups up a screen asking for a password for CAR AUDIO and a notification sound every minute, its disturbing...
(it keeps trying to connect to CAR BT even though they're UnPaired AND phone is still connected to LEVEL U Headphones)
when phone and car are paired, PHONE connects to both devices automatically and i dont want that so i UNpaired them.
my car BT is AlwaysOn and cant turn it off
Question: is there any way to stop this?
Is it possible that it's your car BT that is thinking "I was paired to the Note 8... ah, there is it, hey Note 8 why won't you talk to me?"
I would try flushing your car BT's settings, or if you can't do that, try and pair it to a different phone so that it doesn't keep trying to bother your Note 8.

You Are Right.
seems like my CAR BT has a list of paired devices, that when any of them is in reach it tries to connect to it, so tough i Unpaired CarBT from phone, my car still has it in it's list and tries to connect, but my phone requires password cause I've UnPaired them.
removing my phone from that list SOLVED the problem (the pop up and the notification sound)
BUT, I would better like them to be Paired AND Not Connect Automatically. is this possible in android?
cuz you know when i want to connect to CAR BT i have to PARK and re-enter the password (then they are paired and i have to Unpair and delete device from list again)
it would be nice to have them paired but only connect when i want (for music play)

I didn't quite understand that, but i think the best solution (for me) is to let my phone connect to both CarBT and LevelU, then i disable call audio for CarBT from my phone's paired device settings.
so CarBT has only Media audio
and LevelU has both Media and call (so both works when im out of car and only connected to LevelU)
then, when i'm in my car and connected to both LEVEL and CAR, i set the audio output (from samsung connect panel on pull-down notification area) to CarBT, but since CarBT doesn't have CallAudio, the music will play on car, but during a call, music is paused and call audio comes from my LevelU just as i wanted
i'll have to test for a while for any flaws...
i think you kinda meant the same thing?
