Hello everyone,
recently i've got some strange UI reboots; first time it happens while in deep idle with MIUI SpeeD 4.9.5 and Devil 0.78 XL.
Guessing was a kernel issue i've tried to switch to Semaphore 1.1.0 but they happened again.
It's strange because i see them in battery history (they reset the time since system started) and sometimes i catch them on the fly (always when screen off, i see screen lighting on and lockscreen appearing with "Battery 100%").
Switched to Slim and Semaphore (i've made all the wipes and factory resets) they appear again less often.
Now i'm on Slim 3.6 and Midnight 202LR and these resets seems reduced, but after some time have returned.
What's wrong?
I've never noticed this before (this doesn't means they never happened), but now they appear quite often.
Can somebody have an idea?
Thanks in advance!
So folks, i've upgraded to Slim 3.8 after all wipes and the problem seems gone.
I'm very disappointed that no one had some ideas and wrote nothing.
I'm lucky that my issues solved itself, but some help were useful.
I can say

Hey guys,
I have my Note for about 7 months now. The last 4 months I used a ICS nightly rom (can't quite remember which one it was).
Everything went smoothly, but some day the Note started to take a while to wake up. Did not make a difference if powered on by home button or by the power button. I thought this was an issue of too many apps or something. So I wanted to make a clean new install. So I did everything in the normal procedure (wiping everything, install new rom etc.)
So now I tried the Rocket ICS, the Rocket JB and currently the ParanoidAndroid roms, but I still experience this enormous lag of 4-8 seconds when waking up. I tried the Abyss kernel 3.9 (which didn't work with the ParanoidAndroid rom, I guess b/c of the new mali drivers). So I tried a kernel with the new mali drivers, currently the JellyBeer kernel. So the rom booted fine, but still no change to the wake up lag.
So right now I just don't know what the problem is and how to fix this. The lag most often appears after the phone rested for a while. Also changing the cpu governor does not change a thing (ondemand, conservative, performance, and so on)
I hope one of you guys has an approach or a solution to this problem, because this is getting really annoying.
Thanks in advance,
MCSCHMIDD
No ideas?
Additional info: that lag does NOT appear when I have the phone connected to my PC or a power outlet, only when running on the battery alone. Switched the battery yesterday, seemed to work fine again. But after recharging on the power outlet over night the lag appears again.
Any ideas guys?
My brother's galaxy note have been facing serious sod problems since he bought the phone at Nov 2012. After he faced it the 1st time , he sent to SC and got it back. After 1-2months the problem came again and he asked for my help. I persume it was because the malaysian firmware of the ICS was somewhat unstable from what i read from forums here and there. So i changed the firmware to JB duno from which country when it came out in MAC. After a week or so. The problem reappeared . So I just decided to root and chnge the kernel and also the ROM. Changed the ROM to a stock rom and a kernel. Still the problem persist. I'm out of options. Went to the ****ty SC and the idiots just factory reset the phone and give u back. BUNCH OF RETAR*S . (sorry for my languange)
Hope someone here may help me out with my problem. Thanks a million
Check all the apps you have installed maybe you find the bad one whose causing it as you have mentioned it comes after sometime of installing a fresh rom and have you tried any aosp rom maybe that will fix the issue

I just installed an aosp rom (PA) and I hope it fixes the problem. Well I've seen the amount of apps installed in the note and its jst a quarter the amount I have in the Galaxy S2 and my S2 works like a charm. The note has been giving me headache ever since I got it from my brother. Hope this does solve it , if not I guess its something else maybe hardware
Phone sod twice on paranoid android. FML! Guess im visiting SC tmrw again.
Same problem with me..
My Note 1 has SOD since 1st time bought it..
be patience to install JB --> still SOD
change kernel to SpeedMod 5.3 --> SOD again
change kernel to PhilZ --> sometimes SOD
I have read many information that related with SOD in galnote 1, my opinion it is related with hardware too.. sometimes
or it is related with kernel... it can not wake from deep sleep..
anyone have another better suggestion to cure this ?
if u're using pure stock rom still facing the same problems then definitely is hardware issues!
if ur device still under warranties suggest bring to SC ask them do a thorough check on it n let them know what's going on actually...
Yes, I use stock ROM still has SOD,
so it's hardware issue for sure...
but I will keep the phone for now because sometimes SC doesn't give solution to this..

Yeah and they will give your phone back only doing a factory reset lol

I too get this SOD once a week on my GT-N7000
Phone status when this happens:
stock JB(earlier ICS), non-rooted, data connection, wifi, GPS, bluetooth all disabled. Battery mostly above 80%.
Gmail, Google+, Facebook and all other social n/w apps disabled (yes, i am an oldtimer )
During SOD, if a third party calls my number, he hears it ringing, but my handset is dead as dodo (quite dangerous as the calling person may think i am not answering it)
i used to get this when it was on ICS and still getting it after i upgraded to JB.
Most of the time, SOD occurs during wee hours in morning ( i used battery monitor app that logs battery stats every 10 minutes to check the time when this happens).
Sometimes it occurs when the phone is in my jeans back pocket. phone needs a 10 second press on pwr switch to restart it.
Turning off the "power saver" mode seem to reduce the probability of SOD.
i have taken this phone to SC and they re-flashed the JB.
i told the SC chap that i have already done this and couple of factory resets, but he said that they do "much more" than just re-flashing through kies like calibrating camera, bluetooth )
does anyone in the know, know if this is indeed true ?
Thanks

updates...
After 2 days of re-flashing at a samsung authorised service center, i got SoD 2 times in a period of 12 hours.
once last night and second time when i was traveling to office.
Last night i installed some bare-minimum apps back after waiting 2 days for any SoD to happen in "stock" condition.
Well.... i did not pay 30K to use the GNote as just a phone, so installed some basic apps (Battery monitor, Bangalore BMTC, RealCalc, GPS Test, ES File explorer and a first time app StatusLogger)
phone went dead at 1:00 am in morning and as usual there was no wakeup alarm.
phone was warm to touch when it was lying dead. The battery which was 96% at 00:30 AM had gone down to 54% at 7:00 AM.
Status logger did not show any loss of GSM signal which might have resulted in phone transmitting at higher power/hunting for signal etc.
The "radio" seemed working, because when i made a call to the dead phone from my landline, i could hear the phone ring instead of expected "phone is switched off" message i was expecting.
So this has to do with application processor going in some infinite loop.
Uninstalling all apps is NOT an option.
anyone know if we can establish any debug connection to phone and know what the hell CPU is up to in this situation ?
any processor logger that will periodically log all the processes running on phone ?
SOD resolved... not a single one since 6 months.
Hey guys, just wanted to share this info with you, I had SOD's like anything and did all freakingly possible things right from flashing roms to kernels, speed up CPU, banging my head in front of the dumb witted morons at samsung service... to get rid of that pain. What helped me was an app called "WAKELOCK" by darken which is merely 72kb in size but works wonders, not a single SOD after that. What u need to do is.... it has a list of presets that makes sure your cpu stays up. You need to select the preset called "partial wake lock" which is at no. 4, and viola...
It ensures that the CPU is running. No SOD ever after. Also, you need to make it autorun on boot from the options. Yea, it does eat up batter a bit more but its definitely manageable. I still need to charge my note only at night.
Just to be sure, I uninstalled it and guess what, SOD returned. So, do try it, I hope it helps...
After a lot of issues i just ended up downgrading back to kitkat on my galaxyTab S8.4 wifi, from lollipop.
Issues i was experiencing were:
-totally unreliable battery meter & performance. - Could read 100%, and 10 mins later would read 5% and turn off.
-screen flicker - lines would flicker across the screen randomly, usually before the device crashed.
-Rebooting - the device would randomly reboot, but usually happened 3-4 times per hour, making the device useless.
-screen freeze - the touchscreen would stop working randomly, usually before it rebooted itself.
Ive just gone back to kitkat (voided my warranty in the process) and its still to be seen if downgrading resolves the battery issue, but already the screen flicker seems to be gone. Il update after a day or two use.
Very annoyed with Samsung for releasing an unusable update that rendered the tablet useless & the solution was to load a rom myself, voiding the warranty.
Have experienced absolutely none of the issues you refer to on my SM-T805.
Runs just fine for me.
Downgrading to KITKAT doesn't void your warranty.

I agree with ashyx , my tab s runs fine n dandy , sounds like you have a faulty unit schmintan
I don't know if your tablet has Knox, you can see status if you go under status in about device, usually, and see if it is "official" or not.
Far as what you did, before you went and loaded a ROM, I would have done a factory reset. Quite often, settings/apps brought over from a previous version cause issue. I don't care if the upgrade tells you too or not, read through the forums and you'll see it littered with people stating how they noticed a massive improvement after their upgrade once they factory reset. Yes, it does suck, but these days Android makes it very easy to do.

Hi, have you solved The issue downvrading? I have The same problems you described.
same issues
White lines then crashes, battery life under 4 hours,
Sounds like a case of broken hardware or one seriously misbehaving application. And in general, if nothing works, I'd recommend to do a full factory reset of the tablet after the lollipop upgrade (erasing all of your data and settings of course). The only issue that concerns me about lollipop is the increase in battery drain at idle. You need to hunt down for the apps that keep your tablet awake. But spend a full battery charge in minutes? No way. Impossible. Get the tablet replaced.
I've been having the same issues. When I did a clean install, the tablet worked fine. However, as I install various apps, the issue begins again. I haven't been able to identify a particular app.
Going to try Marshmallow and see if it's more stable
If you both post your apps list that might be interesting see if you both share an app?

nope. no stable mm roms yet.
Well, I've upgraded to Marshmallow and whilst it took a few goes to get it up and running properly (problems with installing gapps) it's working fine (mostly) now.
I've only had it running for a day but it is much smoother and quicker than kitkat and lollipop. So far there hasn't been any random shutdowns. It's too early to say whether battery life is better.
The only problems I've had is the camera isn't working (haven't bothered to look for a fix yet) and auto rotation doesn't work all the time.
I'll keep you up to date on how things go but so far I'm very pleased with the upgrade. I might now upgrade my 10.5

Hola, which procedure did you follow to downgrade OS to kitkat? I m right now on official Lollipop without root.
I had a notion that even if we downgrade to kitkat screen flicker will remain.
Awaiting your reply- thanks in advance

If your issues are caused by Lollipop wouldn't everyone one else with Lollipop experience the same issues? I have absolutely none of the problems you mentioned and I have had Lollipop installed since it was first made available for this tab. Seems to me you more then likely have a hardware problem. You said you were going to update in a day or two but you haven't so far. I'm curious if downgrading solved your issues.

screen freeze + screen flickers bright flash bars
random reboot, screen freeze and crazy screen flickers with bright flash bars), which occurred when it had low battery
(may be not relevant but have also just given up on firefox for chrome!)
this seems to sum up my experience in the last week or so, I thought I was heading for some hardware failure but parallels what others are reporting....
SM-T705Y running 5.0.2 (LRX22G)
looks like update from 20th May which would be around when this started
Hi,
first of all sorry for my bad english and screenshots with german text .
The situation:
I have a total of two Tab S2 (T-813). The first is 4 years old, the second is less than 2 years old. The newer is now causing problems.
The reboots occur:
- When using the tablet. Definitely with a high load, but also sometimes with only light loads
- When it is charging
- completely random
Edit1: reboots are not related to the battery percentage
Edit2: never experienced a reboot while in TWRP.
I didn't really find anyone with the same problem on the Internet. It is not a boot loop. Sometimes you can use the tablet for hours/ days. Then again not at all, because it starts again after a minute. To narrow down the problem, I formatted both tablets and installed the same lineage version and firmware. Since it restarts, log files are unusable, right?
Is there any way to narrow down the error?
I suspect overheating, but I would like to know if I have any way to isolate the fault exactly. Maybe there is also another (hardware) forum, which can help better in this case, then I would also be grateful for a tip.
I would have no problem opening the tablet. I've already done this with my smartphones.
Thx for your time.
Solution:
It is an overheating problem if you have exactly the same problems as I had.
You can test it simply like this: fill a plastic bag with cold water and some icecubes. Use it like a pillow for your tablet so it can rest on the bag while you use it. I had no problems at all while doing this.
I send it to Samsung and they repaired it.
It's just as new now.
I actually have the same problem, just only when its at 15 or less battery
Hi.
Well, it sounds for me like a different problem, cause it's battery related. My battery is fine and I have reboots not related to battery status.
Have you tried anything (factory reset, newest lineage and firmware,...)?
Hi,
same here. A SM-T813 running LineageOS that started with random freezes and reboots about a week ago. Sometimes I can use it for about half an hour without problems, next time it reboots while rebooting ...
Seems to be completly random, only thing I noticed that it never reboots while in TWRP.
Cleared and reinstalled LineageOS, but didn't change anything. First time rebooted while still in the setup wizard, next time I could finish the wizard and install serveral apps before the next reboot.
Maybe a problem with the memory?
Yes, that is exactly the same.
I never experienced a reboot in TWRP. No problem with reinstalling lineage.
But while reinstalling Android, it reboots while configuring and while reinstalling apps.
The last days I could watch Amazon prime every evening. Now it reboots after a minute even without using it. I shut it off and hope it will work this evening again.
I have the same issue, sent it in for repair asked to flip battery and swap mainboard. Got it back. Worked a few days, then had random reboots again. I am 100% sure it is a battery issue, and when you get under a specific voltage, maybe when it gets under 30% or so, the chance for reboots rise dramatically, with high cpu or flash memory usage. It happens more often when doing a update in Google Play store for example. So totally have no idea, if Samsung flipped the battery or not, but this was my last Samsung product ever. I would assume there is an issue with too much current drain and then it reboots, and the battery used in them are not designed for the units properly.
same to me. i was on stock rom. never root or anything. and got random reboots most of them when i open google play or google chrome. now im on lineage and same. also i notice that the tablet didnt reboot until i install gapps. and the tablet never reboot on recovery or TWSR. reboots on high or low battery. and if it was overheating maybe the tablet will reboot on recovery. dont know its weird. i will try lineage with out gapps to see what happend.
just testing lineage without gapps no reboot. run browser and netflix with no problems. then i install youtube from aptoid store. and reboot start again. o unistall youtube and no reboot for now.
Same here. I have random reboots but also wifi disconnections (unable to reconnect until i reboot the device)...
Not evident cause...
Someone got a solution for this?
Have the same problem on my T813
You can find the solution for the problem I described at the end of the first post.
