I've had this problem for a while where my phone will randomly shut off, usually when trying to take videos. After I turn it on again, the battery level will have dropped significantly. It seems rather warm to the touch too. Is there any way to fix this?

I am facing some weird issue with my Nexus One. At least once a day my phone shuts down all of a sudden! The battery drains out completely (0%). Actually I had fully charged the phone only sometime before the shutdown happened. It keeps on happening. Then I have to charge the phone for a long time. It is completely normal. This has happened even sometimes when the phone is in my pocket! It happens in air-conditioned rooms and when it shutsdown, the phone is not hot. Could it be a hardware problem? It happens consistently with every ROM and kernel (even with nandbackups which used to work properly a few months back). This is really annoying. My phone is out of support and I cannot send it back to Google as well.. Any help?
Did this problem start just recently? If so, you might be facing the same thing as nir0th and I, described in this thread.
My battery had always been quite good, and a few days ago it started draining very quickly. I've not been able to figure out what's causing it.
Drastic battery drain is different.. I am having something else.. The battery charge would be something like 60% to 65%.. The next second it becomes 0% and the phone shutsdown instantaneously.
That could mean that your battery is badly calibrated but I doubt it because one usually it won't be that major of a difference and two when you drop to 0% and charge back to 100% multiple times it should fix it so I will say it's hardware and it's dropping power somewhere either an internal part or the battery isn't holding a charge so I would get a new battery cause it's allot cheaper then if that doesn't work send it to htc.
Since the phone is no longer reliable, I started using another phone. Interestingly, the phone does not have any issues without SIM card! It just stays on for around 2 or 3 days without issue. Everytime I put the SIM card, the phone shutsdown in like 5 mins..
Could this be a problem with the battery or some other internal part? I have to tell one more thing. A few days before I started seeing this problem, I forget to take my phone with me from my car to office once. It was around lunch time when I came to pick it up. It was peak of summer (in New Jersey!) and the phone was like burning when I touched it. I wrapped it in a piece of cloth because it was so hot. I guess that is what is causing the problem....
I would be glad if this is only a battery problem
Thanks for all the comments.. Looks like it was a battery issue. I got my replacement battery yesterday. It's around 20 hours and the phone is running solid. Keeping my fingers crossed! I hope this is all for this issue...
Hey,
this is my first posting, so hi to all! I´m glad this community exists
Well, this is my problem: My HTC One is Week old. A few days ago, i was sitting in the train, battery was up to 40%, when its suddenly turning off. So i tried to reboot it, but its always turning off again. I use the recovery to wipe and clean the system und rebooting again, after a few seconds, its turning off again. Because the battery was up to 40%, my first thoughts was, its broken...but i tried to charged it, and first its working. System was up, running normal. But again, at 35-40% (surfing in the web) its suddenly turning off again. So i was thinking i could be the battery. I searched in the web, and found the same problems with the other HTC-One Modells (can someone confirm this?!). So i tried to calibrate the battery (non-root, so i used the "turning on-charge-turning off-charge"-method). Working fine. I tested the device with the antutu battery-test, its worked fine from 100% to 3-4%, no problems. I charged it again up to 60%, so i can test it quick again and not had to wait so long. Down to 30% again, no problems. But at 25% its starting again rebooting. This time, the LED ist blinking red, indicating the battery is low-voltage oO (right?) i pluged in the power an the LED turns instantly green...oO i waited some minutes, plugged in power. At the moment its charging again, so i have to wait before i can test it again.
Anyone had the same issues?? Is it right, that it could be the same problems, as with the other HTC-Models?? (that would be bad for everyone..) Any suggested what i else i can do? Thank you folks for every help!
First thing I'd do is to attempt to calibrate the battery by charging it to full, unplugging and letting it run down until the phone turns itself off, and then immediately plugging it in and recharging back to full. Not sure if this was the process you took in the re-calibration earlier, but if not, it's worth a shot. It sounds like you're suffering from some cell mismatches that can generally be fixed with calibration. You can decrease the amount of time it takes to completely discharge by doing things like increasing your screen-on time, full brightness, playing games/movies etc.
If that doesn't work and your phone is still continuously shutting off when it reads 30-40% battery life, I'd just send it in for an exchange. There could be a defect in the battery causing it to register the percentage incorrectly, and it would be better for you in the long run to deal with it now (while you're still under warranty).

Thanks for your advise I will give it a try! If there any problems in the next 2 days again, i will send it back and get a new one.
I recently posted about battery draining in a few hours after installing CM11. I was wrong. The shutdown was caused by overheating and not by a flat battery. I have now tried both the original samsung battery and a hi-power battery and swapped between the two. When I put an overheated battery back in, after it has cooled down, there is still 50% charge or thereabouts left.
The weird thing is that the overheating only seems to occur if the phone is in my shirt or jacket pocket. I can leave it on overnight on the bedside chest and in the morning there is no sign of overheating and virtually a full charge left. Put it in my pocket and within an hour it has overheated and shut down but still seems to carry on getting hotter until I take the battery out. I have uninstalled all the apps installed since CM11 apart from Viber and Virgin Smartcall and still the same problem. I am getting error messages about com.google.services. location and media. could this be the cause?
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions gratefull received as I cannot continue to use the phone if it keeps shutting down on me.

well this is really awkward bro.
I have been experiencing this problem for 2-3 months. I charge my phone to 100% and when i reboot my phone (for some other purpose) battery level drops to 40 or 60% and this is extremely annoying. Usually when this happens i shut down my phone pull the battery out and put it back. After powering on the battery level is back to the correct value. But now it is not working. The battery level stays there and decreases. Well it only happens sometimes but still when i need my device it is low on battery.
I searched on the internet but most people using galaxy s2 were facing this and they recommend doing a battery calibration which i didnt find useful.
Any solution?
I have uploaded the battery usage in case it is needed.
My one plus 3t fell off from 2.5ft height a few days ago and the battery drainage has gone crazy. I am barely getting 1 hr battery life with wifi on and 5hrs with the phone being idle without wifi. And my phone is always hot even when it's idle. Is it normal to have battery life issues after phone falling off? Has anyone else experienced this before? If so, would you please share what solution worked for you?
Probably contacts between motherboard and some unit are broke. I think your phone is going to have blue screen of death with screen flickering before it. New motherboard will be a solution, because I think you cannot weld back this unit in a way that it will work and hold for some time. You should get more help at phone repair service.
