Has anyone had experience of these?
I was looking at a blaupunkt hamburg car stereo and whilst I can always use USB or 3.5mm aux jack to connect with my kaiser, I would like, if possible, the full bluetooth experience - with the stereo playing music off my kaiser and handling calls as well. I know it will handle the calls part, but what about the music part?
I guess the Kaiser supports BT "headphones", but I wondered if it was possible for a car head unit to pull track listings via BT from a phone, select which track to play etc.
I would really like to be able to have TomTom on the kaiser screen and select what music I want via the car stereo's controls.
Is this possible via BT? I know this unit does that via USB, but I can't seem to work out if track selection is possible via BT. I spoke to some salesmen, but all they quoted at me was "It has Audio Streaming" - I looked that up, but all it said was you could skip track etc - I want to be able to browse playlists on the head unit as well as play, pause etc.
Does BT degrade the quality too much? Would I be better off using the USB port?
depends on if the car stereo supports Stereo over Bluetooth. Go to the bluetooth on your pda, click and hold on the paired stereo and if it gives you the option - you're good otherwise you may need to find another solution.
It's not just stereo over bluetooth (A2DP) I want, it's the ability to browse playlists via the bluetooth device
I don't know of any BT unit that supports playlist browsing -- as I understand it, the AVRCP profile that supports skip, rewind, etc. doesn't support playlists. AFAIK, there's no BT profile for that.
I have a JVC (BT1)unit that can control the music player and stream the music from the Kaiser ,browsing the songs is mot possible
OK, so hard wired it is then.
I am thinking now that maybe BT isn't so wise anyway, I have an active holder, so wires are not a problem really and wires don't cut out randomly or get interference.
Mind you, I just realised that for it to work over USB, the device has to present itself as a mass storage device, which I don't think pocketpc phones do, do they? You need activesync...
Does anyone know if it is possible to run an app on a pocketpc that makes it present itself as a standard usb mass storage device and not an activesync device?
my motorola a2dp bluetooth stereo headphones worked with my unit just fine - they had play/pause/next/prev/volume buttons that worked too - decent sound quality also

You don't necessarily need activesync for this, but you might try Softick Card Export or WM5torage (when someone gets it working on the Kaiser).
I tried the demo of Softick Card Export II and it works, there also appears to be one called WM5Storage on Modaco, but it won't let me download it, I think I need a subscription or something. What is the license on WM5Storage? Can someone send me a copy?
[Edit - heh, was writing this as you posted. So WM5Storage doesn't work on the Kaiser yet?]
This should provide the best possible audio quality - an error corrected usb link to the stereo and also the best functionality - the stereo can browse the phone so you can scroll through lists of your music on the stereo head unit whilst tomtom displays on the kaiser screen

One problem I see with this is that AFAIK, Card Export, when in use, prevents all other access to the card from your pda, therefore your maps on the card would not be accessible to TomTom while you are playing music via USB.

Does anybody know how I can change the order contacts are displayed on the screen of the car? After I have sync the Kaiser with the BT car device all cantacts were sorted first name / last name. I do want to change that?

You seem to be right on the money mate I got the stereo today, fitted it and got memory access violations when using tomtom and pulling tracks via USB
This is highly annoying, is it not technically possible to overcome this?
You could use smaller regional maps and store them in main memory?

Yeah, I could I suppose, but annoying - I paid for Western Europe and would like the whole thing on there all the time. You never know - you may go to a stag do, get drunk and wake up in France somewhere!
Persuing other angles at the mo - not got a word back from softick yet as to whether it is technically possible to access SD card via USB and phone at same time, and I have another thread exploring the possibility of an activesync to Mass Storage Device dongle.
We shall see.
I've got a Sony bluetooth unit and (MEX BT2500 or something) and use my Trinity for handsfree, TomTom and streaming music over Bluetooth - Kaiser turns up tomorrow but should be the same.
I use Coreplayer for music, it works great. You choose the music from the phone, but then you can skip tracks from the head unit. Sound quality is similar to using the aux port on the front - never had problems with interference or cutting out.
yeah, at the moment I just use the 3.5mm AUX input on the stereo and use pocket music.
I use "Double Launcher" to remap the internet explorer button - 1 press for tomtom, double press for pocket music - that way I can quickly switch between the two whilst driving by touch alone.
It's pretty good, but I would rather not have to take the map from the screen to select music, especially if you have a passenger who wants to browse available music. Plus the car head unit display is in big glowing letters which are easier to read at a distance. Also, it cuts down on a cable as the USB would cater for charge and audio.
Unfortunately the head unit only does audio for calls not audio streaming anyway, but I wasn't buying it for this as I figured bluetooth audio involved a lossy compression and so degraded quality - not an issue for phone calls but not the best for music, especially when it is already been through MP3 compression.
I got an answer from softick today, and it seems the limitation is imposed by their software. I have argued the case against the limitation, and they seem to be swaying towards giving something a go. Fingers crossed for a solution here.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead . .
But I am in the middle of purchasing a stereo for my car and want to be able to do a few things . .
1) More than anything i want to be able to stream my Iguidance or TomTom turn by turn directions over my stereo through bluetooth.
2) I want to be able to take calls while still having my directions being played. ( Ie. while driving and being told where to go, if I get a call it will silence the directions and the call will take over. )
3) I want to be able to switch from BT to CD or radio. So if say TomTom tells me, drive for 10 miles, I can switch to radio for a while so i can listen to music and then switch back after some time to get back on track with my directions. What would be even better is if it treated the directions just like a call and allowed me to listen to the radio or cds, and when TomTom decided to talk, it would mute or turn down the radio/cd and play TomTom over it for the moment of " In 2 miles, exit on the right ".
If this is not possible then it isn't really worth it to spend the extra $100 or so on a good headunit with bluetooth. please give me some info or ideas.
(On a side note, if I were to use a BT headset, and had tomtom running, would the commands for turn by turn directions be fed through my BT headset? And would I be able to take calls while still doing this? ) If yes, I may just end up getting a good BT headset and just a nice CD player because of cost.

I've just bought my first HTC unit ever (Kaiser), which is also my first Windows Mobile Phone (I used PocketPCs since 2001 but with no integrated phone so far), and it seems to have a lot of issues in the areas of "regular phone" functionality.
However, the one that is really freaking me out so far is the whole "Bluetooth audio" area. I'm just wondering whether I would ever be able to get what I want or am I asking too much.
I have 3 Bluetooth audio devices, all of them are dual Headset/Headphone ones: in-car fixed Motorola T605, Jabra BT8010 and Plantronics 590. Now, naturally, I want to use the T605 in the car, Jabra for phone calls only throughout the day and for music occasionally, and Plantronics when I'm in the gym, for both music and occasional incoming phone calls.
I had all this working flawlessly with my SonyEricsson K800i phone: each device connected to the phone automatically when powered up and automatically took over both Headset and Headphone functions. The only minor problem was reconnecting Jabra when stepping out of the car, which required only a short tap on the button.
Now, with Kaiser, things are much more complicated. When a device (any of them) is connected to the phone, both as Headset and Headphones, it works mostly OK, although sometimes there is a problem of sound not coming through the device when an incoming call was answered while playing music. The music is suspended OK, but the sound comes from the phone speaker instead of the respective Bluetooth device. This happens from time to time, not always.
But the biggest problem is the initial connection of a device after another one has already been connected. When I enter my car and fire up the engine, I want the T605 to automatically connect to the phone even if Jabra has already been connected. This I was unable to achieve. Instead, I have to manually disconnect Jabra (by powering it off or temporarily powering off Bluetooth on the phone) and then manually connect the phone with the T605, for both Headset and Wireless Music (two actions required!). Now, for me, this is unacceptable.
Moreover, when I arrive to a destination and want to step out of the car, I have to manually reconnect my Jabra to the Kaiser, again, through the phone’s Bluetooth settings as described above. A short tap on Jabra’s button no longer works for this purpose, in opposite to SE K800i.
Making the long story short, this is completely unacceptable behavior for me, and I haven’t found so far a way to make it the way I need it.
Any advices?

Have you tried the Bluetooth fix on HTC's website?
Asking is easy, searching is hard work for some people it seems. No offence..
I'm using Schap's ROM which is supposed to have this fix built-in.

Ahh. didn't see that in your first post..
I think you are suffering the same prob as many. Every time a BT device comes out, it never seems to work with what we had before. BT protocols are NOT fixed (The IEEE STILL have not fully implemented a specific proto!), they change faster than we change our devices.
As I said before (without meaning any offence) search the whole forum, many threads have been out on this subject and some advice/fixes or equipment references are out there.
Well, I did search these forums and haven't seen someone referring to the same kind of problems I'm having.
Now, regarding your comment about variety of BT devices... I don't buy that. My SE K800i is 1 year old and works perfectly with this combination of devices.
I have pretty extensive experience with Broadcom/Widcomm BT stack on PC and older models of PocketPC (the one I have is IPAQ 5555) and I suspect these foes are direct derivatives from the fact Kaiser uses MS BT stack, which is much inferior. However, it seems nobody was able to make Broadcom/Widcomm stack work on Kaiser so far...

I have personal experience of Sony's proprietory connection limitations.
My BT works fine on all my devices....will leave you to others.
Looks like I found a partial solution which makes my life almost perfect...
It seems the real problem is taking over Kaiser from a previously connected device. So, if I switch my Jabra off several seconds before I fire up my car's engine, my T605 is able to connect to it. Same goes the other way around, I can turn off the car engine and then fire up the Jabra several seconds later. In this case all is good.
Looks like the MS BT stack is still ill-implemented though, as, for example, when in active Wireless Music BT connection, the device is unable to discover any other Bluetooth devices or to connect to other device's BT serial interface, which makes using external GPS devices difficult.
This could be a problem for me since my car (Citroen C5) has special anti-radiation coating on its windshield which quite effectively screens the satellite signals. Therefore I came up with a solution of having a BT GPS device permanently located in the car (actually, in the driver's seat back pocket) hardwired to the mains as well as to an external GPS antenna. This setup is effectively beating both reception and start-up time problems.
With Kaiser’s limitation on simultaneous BT connections I’m unable to use this setup anymore. Yes, I could bypass using an additional GPS device by connecting the external antenna to Kaiser’s internal GPS, but this looks like a cumbersome solution as I couldn’t find a Kaiser-compatible mounting with a socket for hardwiring an external GPS antenna.
Luckily for me, I still have my old IPAQ loaded with GPS software which I prefer to use for navigation anyway thanks to its significantly bigger screen

Glad to here you have a resolution (albeit a partial one).
Just one thing, why would you want to connect to an external BT GPS at the same time as your car kit? Can't you get a good enough signal on the internal GPS or is there another reason?

Yes, that's what I wrote in my post above. This antiradiation coating is a real satellite signal killer...
But, IMO, Kaiser's screen is too small for in-car navigation anyway, so having a dedicated unit is always a plus

Sorry, blind AND stupid!
Yes I agree the screen is too small for general use. I have a dedicated GPS in the car and only use the TyTnII as a temporary routefinder whenever needed.
I've recently brought a new car stereo and bluetooth gateway - both of which connect to my G1 fine, however...
When I connect them (e.g. when they switch on, as both connect automatically), it starts the music player on my phone playing a random track!
This is becoming very annoying, as I typically listen to Podcasts, not music. So my question...
Is there anyway to stop this happening?
And/or automatically start BeyondPod to be the app that launches on a bluetooth connection?
Note: Am running Cyan 4.0.2 on G1, with JG-Cyan theme (default music player, with slightly different skin).
I am wondering if there is a way to stop this also. I have a Ford with the Sync system and when I call someone there will be music playing in the background until I shut off the music player. lol.
Mine is straight with the JVC KW-NX7000BT head unit. What are your guys spec? Are you rooted? What rom? And do you have the newest radio?

Not sure what you mean by 'Mine is straight'.
My head unit is a Clarion FB289, connecting to a rooted G1 with Cyan 4.02 Rom (with JG-Cyan Theme). As far as I'm aware I have the latest radio.
As the problem/action happens with two different BT devices, gotta be something to do with the phone/ROM (?)

When I said mine is straight just meaning mine doesn't act in the way you guys are having. Go to your settings on your phone and go to about phone and look what your baseband says. Most likely you prolly do have the newest radio but you just wanna check. Without having the newest radio you can run into BT problems.
It has done it not rooted, rooted with JF 1.5, cyan's 3.6.8.1 through 4.02, Hard and the 1.33.2005 SPL, always the latest Radio.
I guess it is the BT device.
New Development
I'm mainly using BeyondPod to listen to podcasts (go figure...).
But was playing with the settings following the last update, I realised that the 'enable headset buttons' wasn't 'on'.
Since switching it on, when I connect to bluetooth devices, it starts up BeyondPod, rather than the music player...
... better for me, would be nice if nothing happened!
+2 year old thread - same problem. Still. It's kinda funny, but then again it's really, really frustrating.
On the same token, cars usually request access to the contact list - and I've found that the phone allows this even if I don't explicitly allow it. If I happen to look at the phone right when the car system makes this request, I can see the notification and I get to "Allow" or "Cancel". But if I don't do anything, it automatically allows it. What gives?
This has to be a flaw of Android. It's a HUGE security risk too. I use rental cars frequently when I travel and I really don't want to give all my contact data to a car that has a new driver every other day or so.
I have a Motorola Atrix btw, not an HTC Dream. Maybe a mod could move this to a general Android forum.

If this does not work try the solution below. I just went out and trouble shooted with my radio. Seems like when I make the pair from the phone to radio I have the problem. When I make the pair from the radio to the phone its a non issue. The first phone I paired was my Galaxy note I went into the radio settings and searched for my phone; paired the phone and it maintains the connection perfect. When I switch between cd, aux and BT audio the phone stays connected. Calls come in voice switches to speaker and then after call if music is playing it resumes via what ever method it was playing pre call. ie CD, FM/AM or media app (pandora).
On my GS2 I tried making the connection from the phone first. ie making the phone seek the radio's BT signal. This is where I had problems. The stock music app would start after every call. ie send or recieve. I also got the annoying music starting everytime the device reconnected. ie the phone would dissconect everytime I switched the radio's input method between cd, aux or bt.
Soulution 1) Make the pair from your head unit and not the phone. Temporairly set your phone to visible and make the pair that way.
Solution 2) Headset block. Stops unwanted headset controls. In this case play on connect. Just remember to open app and hit the toggle button to on on your first use. found in the Play Store.
Solution 3) More of a work around. Media Button Router : App that lets you select what app you want to auto open on BT audio connect, or you can have it just display choices and cancel them out when you turn on the screen.
Both work well with the first being the better of the 2, but the second addresses you secondary criteria "or automatically start BeyondPod to be the app that launches on a bluetooth connection".
I think its solved now my this thread RIP. It frustrated the heck out me, but nowhere actually had a solution. Hope it does not come back in 4.0.

Well Dec 2012 and I am still struggling with this...
I have a Subaru and a Subaru Factory radio with BT streaming. I cannot do "solution 1" as the car stereo does not have option to search for available devices.
The problem I have is not only the above but more...
0. I have the XXLSJ based Neatrom (Jelly Bean) on my galaxy S2
1. It automatically launches either "Power Amp" or the default JB music player. (earlier it used to do Power Amp, but lately it is doing the JB player)
2. I have switched off bluetooth controls in PowerAmp.
3. There is no option for switching off bluetooth in the default JB music player.
After I start the car, I usually switch on "google listen" and the try to play the podcast I want to hear,
next it starts playing and in a secon or two gets muted, (as some music app tries to autolaunch I guess)
then I do vol+ or vol- on the car stero and it starts playing the podcast, and then the phone freezes (hence it mutes again)
and I get a message "poweramp force closed" at this time if I am luck the bluetooth connection stays or sometimes
it resets, and then I have to go through the procedure again!
If I am lucky the bluetooth stays and I am able to listen to the podcast...
If I use the seek+ or seek- buttons on the car I can switch podcasts which is fine, but the Meta-tags shown on the screen are
not of the podcasts, they are still comming from poweramp. If I hit vol+ and vol- on the PHONE (not the car) then the meta-tags
switch to the next or previous song. Note that as the metatags switch I am still listening to 'google listen' and not poweramp.
I would have liked this to work cleanly.. but well...

So I recently got the Nokia Lumia 1020 after being an android user since day one. Rooted and everything
I have couple of issues and questions that have arise since then.
1. How can I change the search button to bring up google instead of bing? I have read that you have to change your language to Russia but I would not want to do that
2. With my Note 3, HTC one and other previous android devices, I was able to use maps with speech and use the FM radio on my deck together. Android would just mute the FM radio and give me the next direction.
With WP8, it seems like I have to select bluetooth source in order for speech to work, however I can no longer listen to the radio at the same time. Is there a fix/workaround for this?
3. NFC tags.. I recently bought a bunch.. however I noticed that you can't have the nfc tags to change the settings but just launch the settings app? So I would need 3 NFC tags to turn off BT, turn off wifi and enable gps? Seems..... any fix?

1: Basically not possible until we "root" the 1020. Maybe if a bootloader exploit is found. Otherwise, only devices sold in markets where Bing doesn't have much presence - such as Russia, I guess - support that option. You can install apps for other search engines, but the button is sort of "hard-coded" to the Bing app.
2: WP7 used the Headset mode of Bluetooth (Hands-Free Profile) for driving directions, but that was built into the OS. Apparently Here Drive can't or won't do that (I consider this a regression, since my car doesn't support the audio profile) so the car needs to be using BT audio (A2DP, I think) to give directions. However, as a work-around, you can of course play media *from the phone* and it should work fine (it will be muted while directions are spoken). Whether you use internally stored MP3s, streaming music from the built-in Xbox Music (formerly Zune Pass), one of many apps (such as Pandora), or the phone's built-in FM receiver (requires that headphone wires be connected, since that's what it uses as an antenna, but otherwise possible), you can have your music and directions both.
3: Yeah, for reasons of their own, Microsoft hasn't exposed any way for third-party developers to toggle various settings directly. With that said, though... There's basically no need to turn either BT or WiFi off; they draw extremely little power when not in use (and by default, WiFi turns off while the screen is off and there's no external power anyhow). As for GPS, unlike Android's incomprehensibly wasteful approach, on WP8 it is *always* inactive unless an app or OS feature is explicitly using it, so as long as you remember to close the navigation app when you're done with it, there's no need to manually turn off location services.

Otherwise, only devices sold in markets where Bing doesn't have much presence - such as Russia, I guess - support that option. You can install apps for other search engines, but the button is sort of "hard-coded" to the Bing app.
2: WP7 used the Headset mode of Bluetooth (Hands-Free Profile) for driving directions, but that was built into the OS. Apparently Here Drive can't or won't do that (I consider this a regression, since my car doesn't support the audio profile) so the car needs to be using BT audio (A2DP, I think) to give directions. However, as a work-around, you can of course play media *from the phone* and it should work fine (it will be muted while directions are spoken). Whether you use internally stored MP3s, streaming music from the built-in Xbox Music (formerly Zune Pass), one of many apps (such as Pandora), or the phone's built-in FM receiver (requires that headphone wires be connected, since that's what it uses as an antenna, but otherwise possible), you can have your music and directions both.
3: Yeah, for reasons of their own, Microsoft hasn't exposed any way for third-party developers to toggle various settings directly. With that said, though... There's basically no need to turn either BT or WiFi off; they draw extremely little power when not in use (and by default, WiFi turns off while the screen is off and there's no external power anyhow). As for GPS, unlike Android's incomprehensibly wasteful approach, on WP8 it is *always* inactive unless an app or OS feature is explicitly using it, so as long as you remember to close the navigation app when you're done with it, there's no need to manually turn off location services.

What? I must be misunderstanding you, because there's no problem at all with having USB plugged in while getting directions. Or did you mean you're getting the music off the USB (you said radio before, which the phone is capable of doing by itself) and hence the USB is a different input that the BT?
My usual approach in my car is cigarette lighter -> USB adapter -> phone -> ripping cable (I'd use BT if my car would do it for music) -> car stereo AUX port, and that works fine for getting both music and directions. Swap out the aux port and the ripping cable for Bluetooth and it will still work fine (as I've found when I had to rent cars).
That's correct, my deck has a Bluetooth source as well as a USB source.
I have to select Bluetooth source in order to get voice directions to the car speakers but if I select USB source the voice navigation no longer works
Yeah, that's a pain. Is there some reason you can't play your music/audiobooks/podcasts/whatever through the phone, though? Yeah, it's annoying to need to change what works, but on the plus side, it's all your media on one fewer device than you're using now.

I would like to use USB because that way I can save the storage on my phone for pictures and stuff
I finally managed to get Bixby Routines reinstalled on my phone (it was in the Galaxy store and I somehow either missed it every single time I looked, or they just added it). I am using it to send Spotify to my various bluetooth devices while all my notifications play on the phone. I have it set up with 3 devices - an Anker Soundcore, a pair of SkullCandy Ink'd Wireless earbuds, and my 2015 VW Golf. I'm running into some weird issues, though. Note that all 3 routines are set up the same way - IF BT is connected to X, THEN App: Spotify / Audio Device: Bluetooth
1. Whenever Separate App Sound is initiated, either on the previously connected device or a different device, it throws up the "Change main audio output device?" notification, meaning every time I connect to BT, I have to do that. If that's the case, why bother with the routine and not just toggle the SAS with each device manually since I need to interact anyway? When I do toggle it manually and hit OK on the notification, it works flawlessly, sending Spotify to BT and everything else (IG, Messages, YouTube, etc.) through the phone's speakers.
2. With the way the Golf head unit connects to BT, it kind of connects, then disconnects, then connects again, making the phone get weird mixed messages which triggers the routine in a weird way. Is there a way to delay the BT connection on the phone until the head unit is fully booted up?
The only thing I can figure is that maybe I'm not technically following the "make sure you choose an audio device that is different from your main audio output device." rule since when I'm connected to BT, that's the main audio output.
