Possible smartphone succesors to our, now old, Lenovo ZUK Z1 - Zuk Z1 General

I have Zuk z1 for more than a year and a a half now and it s great. Decent in every aspect: good battery and SOT, good community and developement, good screen size and decent performance in games and heavy apps. But in a couple of months, time comes to change this phone with another one. Post your opinions on what might be a decent succesor:
-It should't be over 250 Euro say 300( a mid-range just like zuk was)
-5.2-5.8 screen size is kinda a must now after almost two years on a 5.5 screen.
-Very good battery and SOT, probabily the most important thing. Under 8h sot it s kinda unnacceptable when there are already a lot of 5000mah phones out there.
-No mediatek socs, a decent qualcomm one.
-Posibility for a very good and supportive developement community just like zuk z1 had here on xda.
Obviously Xiaomi would be amongst options but their locked bootloader policy and also the fact that i had to redmi 3 pro's and their 4000 mah batteries are **** after only a yr, a yr and half of use, makes me avoid this company on the future.

[Q] Whether it is worth to buy xperia z in 2015

Hi to all.
I'm planing to by another phone. Budget is limited so there is not to much to pick.
Xperia seems good option because of big screen, LTE connectivity, premium design, important to me a very good camera and at the end is a flagship, but an old one, and that is my only concern.
So, my question is, should i by some newer(new) budget mid ranger or should give a try to Xperia Z? What is your experience with XZ?
Thanks
Ive had mine for a year now and do not intend to replace it any time soon. It runs all the current apps and games!
If your budget is tight, then get a Moto G, or OnePlus One or Nexus 5. Plenty of well specced devices around.

I bought mine 1 year and a half ago, and I can't be happier.
It's an excellent phone, great processor, ram, camera, water proof, design, development ( I had Lollipop from 1st day like a Nexus ), fullhd, 5"...
No need to spend 500€ to get a "rocket" smartphone.

Thanks guys for the reply, for now is tight.
I would like to hear more opinions of owners.
What about screen on time? Now when is for example more then one year old? I don't play heavy games, mostly surfing, taking pictures, little facebook, and a lot texting and calling. And flashing roms of course
For me everything over 3 hours is good.
U can get maximum of 4.5 hours if u r not a gamer ( my experience with games 4 hour screen on time).. May b u will get around 5 hours screen on time if u play with some tweaks..
I bought my XZ this last year in November and I couldn't be happier. Ok, screen on time is not the best out there but, at least for me, it's enough. SOT performance goes between 3-4,5 h, which IMHO I think isn't bad. You could also underclock/undervolt it in case you want to expand its autonomy a bit else.
It depends on the price you are getting at, I would say go for z1 if the price difference is minimal. I've used both, choose the one in your budget
dont buy a Sony phone, they about to go out of business lol
I suggest no.
Xperia Z has following cons:
- Back glas went off due to bad glue.
- CPU throtthling while gaming due to thermal problems, games start to stutter. Device is getting hot while gaming. On 4.4.4 it a little bit better.
- Wifi and Bluettooth disconnects. Search for forums with this problem. You will hate that problem when you decide to get a Smartband. There i no fix for that.
- Weak Battery. I heavily modified my stock rom with tweaks for longer lasting battery, i reduced wakelocks, etc, but still only 1,5 days only with normal use (i dont use LTE). It loses too much battery on standby.

So you came here from the HTC forum, proud of that you succeeded in unlocking the achievement? I find this behaviour a tiny bit bizarre, wondering what are you trying to prove? I mean, if you worship HTC, please remain in your little temple there. There's plenty of terrorist everywhere and nobody needs another one to come, terrorise Xperia or potential Xperia users.
Back on topic:
If you like Sony, just get another Xperia. They're not going out of business anytime soon as if anyone bothered to read, they're exploring (highly unlikely though) to start a jv or selling the business to another company. Of course if that happens, which have a remote chance, you're probably still be receiving smartphone support in the new business arrangement.

- Back glass just fine, over 1.5 years old
- Name one device that doesn't throttle (and doesn't stutter while throttled)
- Wifi and Bluetooth fine as long as you don't use a smartband
- Battery life is average, not really bad but nothing special either, standy is great with the right kernel
Thats my Xperience, no major problems so far.
But really better deals for the money out there.
I guess it depends on the price..
But in today's terms the XZ really isn't great. Like others have said, newer mid-range phones have overtaken the XZ.
Battery life has always been the only major drawback for me using the XZ. In this day and age you should be able to use your phone as much as you like, not holding off reading emails / replying to tweets otherwise it'll die before you get home
You're lucky to get 4 hours screen on time, it's not exactly efficient in standby mode either.
the amount of money you are going to spent just get One Plus One or if you are on budget cost wait till you got abit more money to get a better device
Well, it's a wonderful phone, the main issue with it is the battery
As others said if your gaming is at minimum (1 hour Max a day) you can actually get it to work 8 hours, even more if no gaming and used the stamina mode
Other than that, it's easy to root at all times and relatively easy to flash and customize.
And it will be officially update to lollipop.
I say if z1 is in your range get it only for the battery issue.. If not the XZ is great
Z is a great device.. But u can also buy 1+1 since it has Z2 specs and a better front cam.. It lacks Water resistance like XZ though and the multimedia features won't be like a SONY.. So choose ur needs first and then select the one suitable.. Although i haven't experienced any of the issues which are mentioned in the thread yet.. I hope i won't too.. But still my XZ can beat the s**t outta One M7 & all their desire phones, any iPhone, any S**tsung.. If you are a rough handler of the phone, i suggest u to buy XZ coz its built better and 1+1 seems kinda delicate compared to Sony..

Weren't you the one telling me I don't know what I'm talking about because of spelling mistakes?
G1_enthusiast has quoted you on xda-developers!
I'll believe you once you learn how to spell and put in some correct punctuation.
lol what company hire this moron? he cant even finished a sentence correctly.
I most probably will take XZ if i get good offer. But also maybe wait for month or two to see what will came out.
I also considering to buy SGS4 but i prefer Sony over Samsung. Only reason to take S4 will be the battery life. But like i said before i can live with 3+ hours of sot. Currently i'm using LG O4X which have vary bad sot. 2:30 is max that i can get. And all kind of problems with RIL, it's really "demanding" device, thanks to developers i still using him, but i think not for long.
Thanks

Can you spell out some of those mid-range phones that are better than the XZ? my GF wants a new phone, and i cant seem to find a device thats as thin as the Z, has a fullHD 5" screen and 2gigs RAM and a 5.0 update for similar money...
this really isnt a sarcastic question. I just want to know what are those mid-range devices with these specs, so i can buy her a better phone and save some cash?
btw with heavy usage my Z never died on me until i came home(which means the whole day). im sorry if you use battery hogging apps that dont let your device sleep when you turn off the screen...
@Tommy-Geenexus
Do you really suggest that old spec phone to buy someone, with known not solved software problems on top of serious casing and thermal design flaws?
There are better options on the market. For that money you can have a LG G2 or a Galaxy S4 or a Honor 6 or One+ One.

Buying a Z3C in May 16 , do it or not?

Hi guys ,
I'm using the Galaxy S3 for few years now and I'm thinking of changing my phone since I would be leaving my house at 5 and only returning at 7 now. The Galaxy S3 can only provide me with 3 to 4 hours of SOT and its not enough.
I'm currently looking at Galaxy J7 , Xperia Z3 , Xperia Z3C and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 due to large battery capacities or great battery life as suggested by GSMArena.
My Sister has the Galaxy J7 and she can easily get around 6 hours SOT per charge.
I'm considering Z3 and Z3C because GSMArena is giving them a very good rating on battery life (Although its based on 4.4.4)
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has 4000mAh and users are reporting 6~10 hours SOT.
My friend has a Z2 and he really likes it (So am I). I've also used the Xperia Ray before changing to S3 and personally I would prefer Sony > Samsung > Xiaomi. I've used the Xiaomi redmi Note 2 for two months when I sent my S3 for volume button replacement and the 3000mAh battery can only give me 4hrs SOT which is really bad. The Android skin (MIUI) is also very buggy and RAM consuming. Sony's approach to make their UI similar to AOSP and still updating their old devices is one the reason I like Sony.
Dear community of Z3C , would you say that buying a Z3C now is worth it or not? I'm going to use my new phone for at least 2~3 years. Thanks in advance

Ill say its worth it since its very cheap and has the best battery life, many reviewers claim it as the "king of battery life". I have been using it for almost a year and I am satisfy with it. I was gotta buy the Z5 compact but been hearing bad stuff about the SD810 and not much development.......so Z3 compact for the win, then again, its just my opinion
A phone is a very personal thing, it makes a statement about who you are and what your taste in gadgets is.
The Z3 compact is a pocket phone, it's small, discrete and stylish. For people who who don't want to look like idiots holding some massive screen to the side of their head, so big they can't see.
Asking people to help choose a phone is a bit weird. It's like asking someone you don't know to decide what you're going to wear. It's a personal thing.
The Z3c is completely waterproof. The camera is outstanding, but you do have to get it out of Auto and put the .iso down to 50 or 100
There is built in noise canceling, missing from most phones. You need to buy the headphones, but it works well and sounds good when you're on a train or in a crowd.
The screen is an IPS, meaning you can view it from many angles, not just directly in front of you.
People ***** about Sony screens cracking because unlike other phones, when they crack you can't use them any more, so you have to pay for repair.
I don't think Sony phones are any better or worse than other manufacturers, they all use the same Gorilla glass. They all break when you drop them or sit n them. I had a Z1c that had a cracked screen, six months after I bought it, Sony repaired or free of charge. Sony will repair it free if it's a genuine fault in manufacturing, they will also charge you to repair it if you drop it or sit on it, they know the difference.
Personally the Z3c is still a good option to buy. It has just as many features as the latest Z5c phone other than fingerprint recognition, the battery lasts longer and because it has been out longer there are loads of custom mods and roms that you can load onto your phone to make it cool.
I just returned back to the Z3C after owning the Z5C and selling it last week. Z5 on LP and then MM was a disaster. Too many problems that I couldn't take it anymore. So I say go for it. It's cheap right now and I'm not experiencing any problems on MM with it.

Mi5 worth the extra bucks?

I am about to buy a new phone, to have at least 2-3 years and i want it to be future proof.
I have to choose between MI5 and NOTE 3 PRO.
The price difference is 70$. Does it worth the extra bucks?
Which one of this devices has better development ? I am really intrested to have a good dev support (lineage, ressurection, nitrogen, xenon and kernels)
Which one should i chose? Which one is more resitent ?
Same company but different commercial line (of product): high-end and medium-low-end; with different hardware "particles" inside and different screen sizes and different weights...
Advice: If you are going for the lowest model of the high-end and comparing that with the highest model of the medium-low-end ... you are not doing a good job in the decision-making process.
The MI company is famous for the MIUI (their rom) and .... are expanding around the world but, for now, they have a presence in their motherland and in the asian market (mostly India); the rest are resellers.
So you should consider, for the final decision, the nation in wich will operate your device.
And if you really want (it's the first item in your wish/need list) a "dev supported device" maybe the MI company is not the best one for you.

And the difference between them is only 70$..
So do you think it worths the extra bucks?
Does mi5 have construction problems or heating/throtthling specific for sd820?

Go for the Mi5, it's lighter thinner and the GPU is a lot better.
It's been my main phone for a year now and hasn't let me down once.
And lot's of support for it, LineageOS 14.1 is running great.
The Note 3 pro does have a lot longer battery life thanks to the 4000mah battery vs 3000mah and the SD625 is more energy efficient.
I usually recommend the Note 3 to 9/10 people, since battery life > games.
Although it will run all games just fine, i doubt you can run Google Daydream on it like i am on my Mi5.
As for overheating and build quality neither of them have any problems whatsoever, the SD820 doesn't have the problems the SD830 had.

The Redmi Note 3 is more popular and has better development. But that doesn't mean development for the Mi 5 is bad. And since almost all ROMs are AOSP or CM based these days, the scene is pretty much the same between the two. It's the better phone. If you have the money, the choice is simple really. It's camera, display and performance is excellent, and development is good. It's got Gorilla Glass 4 as well, which is a bonus. Battery life is okay, so if that's a concern you might be better of with the Note 3.

is it best buy under 300$(

I need a long lasting mobile with good specs already tried honor play got screen burn issue in bright white color and flickering display don't know that peice was defective or its model fault.
Anyways need suggestion on what to buy for 3yrs use and need good specs and camera good enough to take notes picture, mi A2, redmi note 6 pro, honor 8x, honor play or asus m2 pro?
Which one should i go for? Poco f1 is not an option cux of cheap built and screen bleeding issue and soft bugs.

My luck is quite bad with mobiles, zenfone got bricked even after repair some it got bricked again and then purchased honor play then it had screen burn issue so got refund and today honor play price is decreased by 60$ but i don't know to trust honor anymore and all mobiles seems to be concentrating on specs instead of hardware durability.
This phone has NO issues with battery life. The media and the journalists feed us bull**** all the time, they see a number and make an assumption. My phone lasts easily a full day with normal day of use with a lot of calls, a lot of searching on the net and some video watching in the car with some audio book listening. This phone lasts more than my old Samsung s8, than my newer Samsung s9 and on par with my last year mi a1.
Many people already said battery life is good if not greqt., But are afraid to say it is excellent because the tech YouTubers said it's "meh" for some reason, even though many of their phones that they own last less than this one.
This is one of the best phones under 300 and dare I say it comes close to even the bigger budget phones.
The only thing I can't comment on is gaming as I do not play games on my phone. I listed all my activities above you can make your educated guess. I have two phones left right now that I use that is my older Samsung s8 as one of my all time favorite phones, and this one, and I am thinking of getting rid of the s8 as well. The s8 as originally more expensive phone is fluid in terms of UI, better looking to me, better camera hands down, and more powerfull, but to be fair I could not care less about most of the things except I really enjoy the fluid UI Samsung has build in the past years with the S7 s8 and s9, but I am happy with the stock to so whatever.
Go for this phone dude, you won't be sorry in the next 3 years unless you play heavy games (for those I have no clue, you will have to ask some one else).
The only thing I would suggest if you have the budget is go for the 6GB ram version, that will help you last longer with your phone for sure, it's a future proof more than anything else.

Haha, If you don't like poco for the reasons you've posted forget the a2. Screen is a nightmare (compared to other lcd not oled, before some "akhchually" carebear shows up). Bugs talk for themselves. Build quality ok for the price, but it's disgustingly copying the iphone x, or it's just me.

I mean the only key feature that many people think of approaching the Poco is the chipset it has for it's price....that's it

nightmare and disgusting are words that are usually used for phones of the 5-10 usd from china with shipping. I would not call any disadvantages or shortcomings that you think the phone has (obviously comparing to phones with higher price tag or with better individual parts but with other parts lacking) nightmares or disgusting.
but as you said its just you
ps: iphone copied samsung that copied iphone that copied samsung that copied apple that copied samsung that copied nokia that copied ericson that copied siemens that copied sagem that copied motorola.

General Avoid the Xiaomi Mi 11

I was very enthusiastic buying the Xiaomi Mi11 at the begining, but I've faced cruel reality.
Besides bad battery and poor thermals, the design is also a big flaw.
After 2 days using it, sorry baby-sitting it, before getting appropriate accesories I've used it in the supplied case, all fine excepting the issues above.
My big wonder was when I've found it sitting on my desk with a cracked back panel without hitting it or dropping it.
Now how do I demonstrate to the retailer or Xiaomi that I didn't cause this damage, and it is only a cheap design and materials that brought this ?
Now the ping-pong started Xiaomi Official Page - Warranty company - Retailers.
I am waiting next week for retailer's response to this.
Glass is glass and glass will break
Sorry for your device
Mine is perfectly fine since 14th of March or so and I treat it like a usage item not like something special
Been using Mi 11 for almost 5 month, no complaints here with the aesthetic of the phone still looking good for me. Hope your device gets the warranty that it deserve.

I am aware about glass weakness, but this is the first time that it happens under this conditions.
Sorry to hear that. My Mi 11 has been going great now especially after i flashed xiaomi.eu, good battery life and a smooth software experience. Just a breath of fresh air from one ui in my opinion. Also i recommend picking up the spigen rugged armor for the Mi 11, mine doesnt leave my house without that case.
don't avoid the mi 11
I have no such issues as thread starter with my Mi 11 (that I have been using for 2 months)
there isnt a smartphone with top of the line SOC Like Mi 11s (snapdragon 888) that can last more than a day od heavy use - complaining about battery is pointless with flagships - they all struggle to get more than a day of use (especially with 120Hz enabled)
I have been using my Mi 11 without any case or protection whatsoever since I bought it and I have zero scratches or dents - this phone uses latest gorilla glass victus on the front and gorilla glass 6 on the back - same as every other 2021 flagship
there are no compromises made when it comes to build quality of this phone
the only thing I can agree with are poor thermals but only when playing most demanding games on highest graphics - phone does get uncomfortably hot (but I have to check if this has been fixed in MIUI 12.5)
you were unlucky and got a defective unit - advising people to stay away from this phone because you were unlucky is laughable
this could have happened with any other brand of phone you bought
do you **** on Samsung because bunch of note7 burst into flames?
and no, I am not a fanboy
android phones I have owned so far: HTC Desire, HTC One X, Sony Z1, LG G4, Samsung Note8
I bet that if you were me you wouldn't praise it this way, and yes for its price it is disappointing (same price as S21 plus, more expensive than P40 pro).
Believe me that you are not proving anything saying that you wear it without a case, only irresponsibility because changing its backpanel it is a headache.
Other possible buyers should be aware what they might deal with, they should know these issues.
Please google on the internet how much support did other buyers get from Xiaomi in such cases, before throwing dirt on my post.
P.S. if I would have read before about a similar situation this would have stopped me buying it.
Lmao, Xiaomi did the worst 888 smartphones with the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Ultra in terms of battery consumption. Even the Ultra has worse battery life than OP9 Pro and Oppo Find X3 Pro that have 10% less battery capacity.
More than 1 day with beavy usage? Even with light use, i struggle to get 24h with no more than 3h of SOT. Average, it last me 18h with 5h of SOT with light use, 60hz FHD+
@catalindobre Then dont be in this forum, sell your phone and bye..
Pff dont be such a kid about it. Why would you start a thread to bash the phone of which this place is for? Or you just want attention? It is either way cringe and sad.
It is a fine phone, of all the thousands of phones, you found a cracked one. But ALL phones are bad now. Makes sense..
I think you miss the point of a free forum, sharing info and experiences about this damn phone, equally good or bad.
Should I just hide it in the sand just that you feel proud about your device?
Mate if you don't like my thread and don't have any relevant thoughts about it, move on !?
Don't give people advices that they didn't ask for, especially what to do with their money!
FRIENDLY REMINDER

In my opinion is not a phone to avoid. I recommended the phone for others.
I didn't have any overheating problems until now and the battery it's ok for me. In heavy usage i got 6-7 SOT in 14 hours or in light usage i have 5 hours of SOT in 24 hours.
I also dropped the phone twice in this 2 months that i have the phone and nothing happened.
As i mentioned on other topic, i like the phone more than the previous two phones ( Note9 and note10) and the battery life it's better than this phones. And when i buy that phones they where more expensive than Mi11 at that time. So...

Battery is a subjective matter, not everyone will get the same result. It will all comes down on your usage and settings that you used. For me, battery is just OK but not great.
Actually, you are the one who gives advice to people what to do with their money. Not me, i just state that your thread is a waste of space in my opinion. Mods think otherwise, thats cool. And pls friend, be kind to another person..
Yeah right, detective found the guilty one!
The phone from a sw point of view is so crap that even Symbian was way much better in the 90's

HAHAHAHAHAH! What a joke. I've been using mine for a month at 120hz and FHD+ and ALWAYS get at least 6 hours of SOT per day. With heavy usage and NO battery saving. Tho, I do have 5G disabled. Sounds like you need to do a factory reset. Or stop playing so many games.
by any chance no one could have knocked it down and put it back in its place neither seen nor known?
