A lot of rumours going around over who will make the next Nexus phone but this may be a solid one.
I Personally have not had any experience with any Huawei products so I can't say whether this excites me or not.
Would still prefer Sony to have a go.

Arrgh
Lets hope not.
I find it hard to believe that they would leave it in the hands of a successful brand but not as successful as any other OEM they could have if they wish to.
hmm
Probably come embedded with hidden spyware and a small nuke attached to the motherboard.
To build a Nexus which is supposed to have specs of a flagship phone and a killer price tag, how about giving OnePlus a try to manufacture it?

Supply is the main reason OnePlus wouldn't get the next nexus.

LOL, I was hoping LSD instead!
NEVER use those Chinese brand
The QC is a joke
Also, don't let them increase the market share
Just a rumor with nothing behind it. The specs are obviously made up (Snapdragon 820 in 2015 and 6000mAh battery lol) and we've seen thousands of these fake concepts in the past.
Definitely impossible.
They'd make it look like the iPhone anyways

Riiiiight. Leave it to the company with the absolute worst customer service in the business.
I read somewhere that LG will be releasing a new Nexus some time this year.

You know Huawei is Chinese and not American, right?
Hope next nexus will be chinese brand with MTK SOC.

Would be odd for google to chose a company from a country that blocks most of their services. Maybe a peace offering to get back into mainland China.

Why would you want a nexus with a sub par SOC?
i like to see LG again, but in the end i dont care much what manufacturer builds it. i dont care if chinese, russian, taiwanese or japanese.
but please, not Motorola. i just dont like that Design.
anyway, i guess nothing will beat the timeless nexus 5 design. just give me a better camera and a thicker battery :cyclops:
this could be good news actually. one sure thing is that its going to be more affordable. the one reason that kept me away from n6 is the price tag.
if Huawei is making the next nexus, then count me out. I'll stay with my N5.
would like to try it out as long as it does not have any "baidu" in it, besides smartphone market is having loads of competition from japan and Korea let see what the Chinese make of things
As oneplus 3T is a controversial launch for all op3 owners and its dev community, this question came in my mind. We all know how oneplus is treating op2 after release of op3, I am just worried they are gonna do the same with Op3 by discontinuing it. And will the same happen with op3T also when again after few months they will come with another new flagship Op4...
As for now, they have proven to be mistrusted, so I'd say they'll discontinue just like they did before.
I don't think they'll be on a 6 month release schedule.
Finally, OnePlus told us this is not indicative of a new line-up and that users should not infer that there will be two separate SKUs (one being superior) in 2017 and beyond — they claim that the OnePlus 3T is a situational phenomenon . . .

I expect they'll release the OP4 around this time next year or a bit earlier. This device mainly seems to be a challenge to the Pixel (and it serves to better position their releases for Christmas sales?)
Sell the 3T for $350 and get the 4, $100 every 6 months or $200 per year for a flagship product is one hell of a deal...
Hopefully there won't be an OP 4T, there will just be an OP 4 this time next year.
Best guess. There'll be a OP4 in six months and another OP device six months after that. This is what a smaller company does. This is what Chinese mobile phone companies do - they release new versions all the time and are continually releasing new devices with the latest hardware.

I think its great that they are constantly updating and keeping the devices current...dont have to Wait so long in between devices.
I dont get why everyone is complaining about new hardware dropping? Its some thing to get excited about not upset!
I wish sammy and google would folllow suit honestly...a couple notes per year would be amazing. (As long as they dont spontaneously combust lol)

I think they see it as loosing their bragging rights, since they no longer have "the best" that company makes. It's irrational and somewhat childish, technology does move forward and the phone they bought didn't get any worst because of this (in fact it's still one of the very best around).
To finish my rambling:
1) Buy what you need, not what consumerism and marketing departments tells you to.
2) Once you do buy something, take the most out of it while it still works. I believe that is why we are all here at XDA, is it not?

It's not just that, it's lying to the customers, standard phones have a year cycle. it also makes the development friendly phone less friendly as already many devs have said they wont support the 3T

This is silly. I still have an awesome phone, better software, greater development than virtually any phone, and have gotten great customer service from OnePlus. Every time I have had to deal with Customer Service/ Tech Support, they have been very helpful and answered all my questions, plus have been extremely efficient when handling various situations and when I had to RMA my device they emailedme almost daily to keep me abreast of what was happening with my device. They have already provided several updates and Nougat is in beta testing, but if you don't want to wait, there are plenty of third party Nougat roms already available. The reason they are available, they released all sources and posted stock roms. So I am not sure why you are so butt hurt and say they are proven to be mistrusted just because they released a new device?
Do you guys think it's better to wait for 1+4 or go with 1+3t?
I can resist... but i don't know if my Nexus5 can do it too.
I've read some of the rumors (2k, 4000mah), but i don't know if they can be trusted.
Sorry if i've made any mistakes, but i'm new :>
IMHO, wait if you can. If any of the rumoured specs are right, this should be a really good device! If you can't wait, check out the 3 on eBay. Now that the 3T is out, 3's are showing up for discounts. Seen them as cheap as $310.
Thanks.
I guess I'll wait...
The downside is that there is no specific date nor price around :/
You know, waiting and then it turns out that 1+4 costs 550/600€ would probably kill me...
Like Xiaomi did with Mi Note 2.
Thanks for the advice!

Don't wait.. If you really wanna buy a new phone, do it now. New devices will always come and manufactures themselves will always make them outdated in few months. So don't wait, buy Op3/Op3t whichever is available in your country and enjoy.
That's how it works.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Yea, i get your point.
But i prefer waiting (if my N5 allows me to ) and get a phone with a 2k screen.
1+3t will be available in one week from today... I'm gonna start to count six months from that day asd.

In what way they lied? Did they say that they won't release new phone before next year or what? Why they have to keep 1 year cycle? Because you want them to? What does it change for OP3 user? Their phone specs will get lower somehow? You are getting what you paid for but you expect to be the best for one whole year? Everyone will wait?
I am very happy that they improve, because why not? And it is actually not that they released new phone, they had to produce them more and it was probably just easier to put 821 and battery is just using different voltage.
A lot of butt-hurt here...

I get what you are saying, but that's just how customer point of view, not necessary what explicitly stated by the manufacturer. But, even if what you said is true about standard phones then exactly what exactly is standard? I mean Samsung have tons of phone out each year, and you could also say both the Galaxy S and Note series are just half a year apart, yes they are not exactly the same series of phone, but in many PoV, they are close enough. As far as the manufacturer PoV is concern, OP is considered relatively small company, making two similar phones simultaneously would cost more for them, and thus it make economic sense. But seriously, why would it bother you or anyone? I mean, it is stupid to think that they can't get better android phone half a year from now. Seriously, every month, there is at least a new android phone and most customers would look at the phone that suit them best, or whatever that have the latest and greatest features.
You mention the Samsung phones and yes they are similar but it isn't the exact same model.
Also the note and S series are aimed at different people. I wouldn't want a mobile any bigger than 5.5 and before the op3 I wasn't even sure i wanted to more up to 5.5
If they told customers they were releasing a 3T more people would have waited .
Also I can tell support for the OP3 is going to slowly fade away and be in the same position as the OP2

2K screen, or you mean UHD screen? I have a note 4 right now, and even Notebook w/ UHD, but seriously even after a year and looking at the current situation, i think it's a bit overrated. There still isn't a lot of app or software that take full advantage of that high res. Yes, the screen look nice but only to a certain point. In most cases, it won't be distinguishable from 1080p screen. What suck about it is that your graphic gaming performance will suffer because it's now 4 times the pixels it have to render, and also battery life. Hence I'm leaving the Note 4 to the OP3T.
I see that OP have announced there will be a OP6 coming out around June time. I wonder if there's a furore by those who bought a OP5T

furore? you buy op6? will 6t get better? or should we ask the crystal ball when the 7 comes?
I hope a mod will see this and close it ASAP.
This will be my first and last 1+ yes it is cool and had great battery with superb performance.
But a five month period passed and my phone became obsolete, no OIS.
Two things which killed it for me.
Shame.
Anyone who buys a phone that One Plus releases in Spring is an idiot at this point. One Plus will release their inferior phone in Spring and then the version they should have released in the first place in Fall. Why would anyone fall for that again and buy an OP6?
Well, that's your opinion. I don't find OP5 inferior to OP5T. Actually, it's the other way around for me.
Sorry, but no capacitive buttons and finger print sensor on the back it's not an upgrade for me. And the rest, well, they have exactly the same OS, same software and same hardware.
And if you don't buy the 6 because the 6T will be 6 months way... you should probably don't buy the T because the 7 it's 6 months way again.
FWIW, OP6, or any other phone in 2018, will not be a worthy jump in performance compared to OP5. No matter what.
I have no intentions to buy any phone for a couple years, but who knows. I might get the itch and buy a new one anyway.
My phone didn't become less capable because there is a newer phone.
Exactly! But the urge to get the latest model is to much for some people.
And let's face it, phone brand known that all to well.
Yes, marketing works great with phones. My computer is 4yo and has maybe a few years to go with small upgrades, but I change phone every year :silly:
I hope this time I can keep my OnePlus 5 a long time (I'm very careful with it and it is always inside a silicon case).

That's not OnePlus's fault, that's today's consumer society's fault. "I just gotta have the latest thing, that will make me happy, that will make me better than everyone else"
If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it.
Yeh, definitely.
Im guilty of it myself sometimes. But this time around I manage to keep my last phone for 4 years before I moved on. I'm proud of myself. Lol
Let's see what happens this time, when the new phones start popping up in a few months.
I hope 6 will be edge to edge screen. No up & down bands/buttons.
I'm still not convinced about no bezels and weird screen ratio thingy.
Let's see what the future brings.
Lol wait for the T you know all those people that complained about the 5t when it came out.
Should I return my new Mate 10 pro?
very new here. Bought mate 10 pro from amazon recently. Absolutely love the phone. it's so snappy and has fantastic camera and battery life. infact got one for my wife who loves the phone too. But, there are news/rumours circulating that Huawei plans to completely abandon mate 10 pro in north America and last update was in sometime in march.
While rest of the world with same model gets updates it looks like Huawei has turned a blind eye to customers who purchased in the US.
I'm not on of those guys who is willing to root or change device version to get updates. it is one of the reasons to buy a premium device. I'm wondering if I should carry a premium device with no updates in the horizon. I mean I'm not really sure if there is any point in doing so.
Still have about 10 days left. Should I return it or just hope Huawei will update this device and hold on?
are there other easy options to get timely updates?your thoughts pls....

Actually, I think that the US made it extremely difficult for Huawei to sell their product.
So they might have reason to hold back on US handsets.... I just remember that Huawei were almost blacklisted in the USA for a while.....

Hard question, huawei support will probably give you a bs answer so thzat you keep the phone.
I havent heard that they are abandoning the US handsets from what I heard they just late on updates but so are the UK and Australia. For all i know you should not keep the phone if timely updates are important to you.
If you love the phone exept for that one fact i think it is worth keeping it. there is no perfect phone and if updates are not your biggest concern then be it. LG and samsung lack behind on updates even more. so in this regard you are still alright (my friend once did not receive one update in 6 months on his s8 last year) LG v30 (flagship of last year) just got the oreo update.
If you ask me your phone wont be hacked and destroyed if you dont have the latest android security patches (many oems got caught faking the newest versions anyway). and for the safety of your data: lol you give them away for free to all those tech companies anyway so why bother, the intelligence services already have access.
and especially all this huawei is a bad chinese spying company stories are completely made up and not backed by any evidence. this is coming from the only country that actually got caught (snowden leaks) so i would highly doubt everything these "intelligence" services say without providing solid evidence.

I called support yesterday after seeing that article. They told me the US Mate 10 Pro is definitely getting face unlock, camera enhancements and EMUI 8.1 but no guarantee on GPU Turbo... It sucks. I am disappointed. You are better off returning the Mate 10 Pro and getting a P20 Pro. The P20 Pro allows for VoLTE on US carriers including T-Mobile and AT&T out of the box and then you'll get the updates we all want. The international version of the Mate 10 Pro, the BLA-L29, does not support VoLTE out of the box. You have to unlock bootloader and root the phone to make that work and then you'll get the updates you want but I believe every time you update your phone from that point on, you have to set it up from scratch...

I contacted Huawei service as well and they did mention that US version will get an update. I guess US model will be among the last to receive updates as Huawei really doesn't have much market here so they would focus more on other regions. If slow software updates bugs you, yes return the phone. I have been using this phone for 6 months now and i like it except for few s/w bugs which are annoying but not deal breaker for me. Hopefully 8.1 will fix most of those.

spoke with CSR. He didn't give out too much information. He said that this is a new device and chances for not having updates is highly unlikely given huawei is selling these phones as unlocked in US with warranty.
He said it may get delayed depending on when the software is tested and ready for release. But again no commits since he didn't have any dates. The only thing he told was he cannot comment on news from third party sites.

Don't get hung up on GPU turbo update. I work for the world's best GPU company (NVIDIA) . The numbers they quote are usually fudged. Yes you can have 10-15% perf enhancement with improved power efficiency, But don't read too much into it.
Now coming back to my usage, I rarely game. My usage is usually email, browser, messages, maps. I have moved away from all this phone gaming 3-4 years back. So your news that all updates except GPU turbo update sounds encouraging to me. But then again I'm not sure if I want to buy a sales tech support specialist. Still dilly dallying on my decision to keep the phone or not.
Phone is too good. Just worried about not even getting security updates let alone major updates.

The BLA-L29 works in the USA with VoLTE with which carriers? Maybe you misunderstand me? I said the BLA-L29 does not work with any US carriers with VoLTE. Huawei locked it down since they have a US version of the phone, the BLA-A09.
I'm sincerely curious because I've tried many and have not had success. Definitely did not work with T-Mobile...

lol sorry i just read the part with the mate 10 pro, skipped details on the p20 sentence. sorry
Just picked one up as well on Amazon prime day and also felt a little weary because of lack of updates and also spoke to tech support and reassured me that updates will still come, but not in the manner the rest of the world is receiving. They still intend to be a player in the states in the future so it makes sense for them to continue to support their small fanbase currently in the states. And it seems they have a location in Texas dedicated for phone repairs, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but hopefully it means they're investing/gambling on a future here in the states.
I have the mate 10 pro usa version ...If I had the option to get it today I would not get it, not because it's not a fantastic phone but because after speaking to their customer service today, the details which I posted in another thread, they have obviously relegated the usa models to unwanted cousin status. It's possible it may get future updates but it is not in their priorities.
I would either get a different make like the oneplus with usa support or get an international version of the P20 or the upcoming mate 20, definitely not a usa model, unless you get it at a bargain price.
Hmm, still interested in buying, but maybe its better to spend the extra $30 on Amazon to get the international version (BLA-L29) and avoid the US model.
Amazon Germany now sells it for 450€ compared to the starting price of 800€ (with tax). I think roughly 40% discount on whatever it started at in the US is a good deal. If you'd only save like 25% for a 'previous-year-flagship' i think its too expensive. Here in Germany/Europe prices of Android phones drop very fast. Especially LG and samsung. The G7 hit us with the ridiculous price of 850€ in Mai and dropped down to 575€ (30%) already, in just 2 months. Samsung S9 dropped from 850€ to 590€ (30%) in 4 months. Thats why the oneplus 6 isnt really the "cheap alternative" here, all the other phones, released before one plus, dropped to 500-600 already.
Then again I dont know how prices develop in the US in general. I would not suggest buying it for more than 65% of its starting price. Thats still too expensive for a phone that wont see much support and with last year's soc. (On the contrary, an extra good deal should be what justifies the bad update policy.)
If I had to choose today, I would opt for a OnePlus 6. It has an attractive price and software support, decent battery life and a faster (future proof) soc. I really think that all the downsides of the OnePlus (mono speaker, camera just under the top 5 and missing ip67) don't overshadow the overall package you get. Especially since there are the exact same waterproofing rubber bands used to seal up the phone than with all the ip67/8 phones.
Same boat, I bought one on Prime Day. Fantastic phone, super fluid, quick, fastest camera I've ever used. The news since on the GPU update, which isn't the be-all as it only works with a limited number of titles at present, is worrisome. While I don't need constant android patches, once every month or two would be nice. - For some reason, I'm not a Samsung fan, can't explain it, just not. Came off a ZTE Axon 7, which was a great phone for 2 years, but the Mate 10 Pro just flies.
What are the options to rebrand to another country on the BLA-L09? - Worth doing, do we loose anything, does anything stop working, and can it still be done?
I just saw that this phone is back down to $499 on Amazon. Then I remembered that the Huawei unlock program ends tomorrow...
Currently running note 4x with EU.miui rom and it's been great but looking to upgrade
I'm undecided what to get though: mi 8, mi 9 or mi 9se. Can get mi 8 from UK store for £279 with two year warranty. Mi 9 can get from gearbest for £345 and 9se for £266 also from gearbest. Gearbest would only have store 1 year warranty.
I mainly use phone for browsing, YouTube, Twitch and music. Camera is not priority but would be nice to have decent camera.
Any advice would be much appreciated as I can't make up my mind.
So... You ask it in Mi9 thread. And I think all people here would say go and buy the Mi9. I personally would definitely buy the Mi9 because it's a real flagship for a great price.
Edit: Question about warranty...
I always say: what can get broken on a smartphone. In most cases it's the display. Warranty won't repair that. So I don't care if it's 1 or 2 years warranty.

I had a touchscreen issue last year where my S9+ wouldnt respond to any touches. Other than that nothing ever happened for me.
I have the Mi 9 now and its an amazing smartphone. You can get it for even less on Banggood, check Kimovil.

Yeah as I said in most case display gets broken and warranty won't repair that. Sure its not excluded that other parts can get broken but that happens less often.

In that case my S9+ did get repaired because the screen wasn't broken in any way, somehow it just didnt respond to touches.

Yeah I work at a retail, selling phones. Samsung's phones have high chance of screen issue's. Every fifth phone gets send to service for a screen replacement. But it usually happens in the first year of usage

I know might be a bit biased to ask on here but chances are somebody might have had mi 8 and can compare

I have used the Mi 8 for 2 months. Great phone, but the notch is really anoying. I am overall more pleased with the Mi 9.
The S9+ I had last year was just awful. Lag, battery drains. Only the hardware was great.

Ah my fault, right! Warranty won't repair it, if the display is damaged from the outside.
