SD reader specs. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi Y´all
I´ve been looking for accurate specs for the micro-SD card slot.
I´m positive I read somewhere in a post that the slot was UFS compatible.
I haven´t found any official confirmation anywhere.
Do anybody have a link to in-depth specs?
Regards
Elo

any 8GB non SDHC mem cards available yet?

as the title says
SD 8 GB
Hi
Kingston produces it:
8GB* Secure Digital High-Capacity Card (Class 2)
But I do not know if it is going to work on the BA. Does anyone have such a card in his BA?
Black6spdZ was asking for NO-SDHC card.
well I was asking because I thought I remember reading somewhere that the SDHC cards wouldn't work in our BA's.. has this been confirmed?
yup, its doesn't work, I bought the Topram 8GB SDHC from Googlebase and it wasn't working. Theres a thread about this already so get to the searching.
cheers.

Diamond2

I might be coming back to WM world from iPhone in next few days but have a few questions on Diamond2. What is the maximum MicroSD card it can hold. Also, anyone know if it comes with any sat nav software such as CoPilot or anything?
Cheers
Robert
Hello,
I don´t know what the maximum is. But here is a link to the faq´s at the HTC Homepage. I have a 16GB card in the diamond2 and it works very well.
I think if HTC say that every microsdhc card works, a 32GB card also works. It only must be a microsdhc 2.0
see on the link http://www.htc.com/europe/faq_detail.aspx?p_id=249&act=faq&cat=0
cant find any 32gb cards anyway lol. Been looking for 16gb and prices are pretty good compared to what I expected.
Thanks for your reply.

SDHC Card class

Hi all,
Just wondering if the class of a microsd is worth considering when purchasing. I'm after a 16gb card but read somewhere (PCpro?) that there was very little difference in reality between different class cards.
Let me know
Thanks

Please please please do a search first! There are numerous threads going on here, plus a benchmarks thread I started the Accessories section which goes through all these points...

class 10 SDHC

Just wondering if anyone knows if the HTC hero will support this speed?
Here is a link to 8GB card:

I think it should as long as it compatible with SDHC 2.0.
I'm not sure it will go up to Class 10...I don't think so.
Anyone else can comment on this and confirm either way?

It said here on HTC website:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/hero-sprint/help/storage-card
and
Here is the spec for SDHC 2.0
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital
I am thinking of ordering one too
Thanks. Looks like that answers the question that HERO, which supports 2.0 SDHC, should work for card speeds up to class 10 and of size up to 32GB.
If you get your card please report if it works for which one.
I looked over the wiki and it states
On 21 May 2009, Panasonic announced new class 10 SDHC cards, claiming that this new class is "part of SD Card Specification Ver.3.0".[11] Toshiba also announced cards based on the new 3.0 spec[12]

64GB's on HD7!?

Is it possible? I recently bought an HD7 and am ready to upgrade my memory!
I read a thread about an HD2 running WP7 with a 64GB SDXC Class 6...
Just wondering if it's possible for our awesome phones
Any insight appreciated.
Below is pic from article I read couldn't locate the thread and I'm almost certain posting outside links is a frowned upon...
Cheers!
This would be great anyone else have any info on this
UPDATE: I've found two posts by dorianmuthig on this thread referring to the situation.. Still craving a definitive answer!
First of all - big thanks for the post - I'll actually be donating something to u if it works for me -> now, my main qestion is whether SDXCs are recognized - specifically 64GB sdxc. I'm planning on going all out and purchasing a 64GB SDxc MicroSD from Amazon (the Komputerbay 64GB Micro SDXC MicroSDXC Class 6). Theyre relatively new, definitely less than a year old - so I'm wondering whether that file format will cause performance or other issues against windows Phone 7.5 (mango). Thanks
No, SDXC cards are not supported. SDXC cards will simply not be recognized by the phone, the HTC SPL doesn't support them. You can only use microSD or microSDHC cards in the phones, and due to the fact that there are almost no microSDXC cards on the market as of yet, it can take quite a while for the first phones (not just Windows Phone 7 Series) to support them.

I was wondering if 32GB is the biggest you can put into the phone. Maybe I can put in a 64GB Micro SD.
Thoughts?
Yes, 32GB is the largest capacity SD card you can put inside the device, because that's the limit of the SDHC standard. Larger cards are SDXC cards and those aren't supported by the phone. If you put an SDXC card in the phone one of two things will happen: Either the card is smart and pretends to be an SDHC card (see Kingmax cards) capping itself at 32GB (might show as corrupted at first) or it simply won't be recognized. Many Android phones do work with the recently released SanDisk® Mobile Ultra™ microSDXC™ memory cards (http://sandisk.com/products/mobile1-memory-products/sandisk-ultra-microsdxc-card) and odds are that HTC Windows Phones with a recent SPL bootloader do recognize them properly (even though they are UHS-I cards), but I don't know if they'll pass the performance test, nor are they very cheap. If you want to try it, be my guest.
Available card models are: SDSDQY-064G-U46A (Europe) , SDSDQY-064G-A11A (Americas & Pacific)

Side-question - What 32GB MicroSD Card are you using? I might be stuck with 32 measly gigs! I really wanted to stick it to all the 64GB rockin' iphone users who laugh at WP7 [but, not my Galaxy Note though!]
Anyone can add the final word to this?
if it's possible, reliable without decreasing its performances, i'll look for sdxc soon!!
I think they take the card and reformat it fat32 so the phone can read 64g card.

Nothing more about that??
As far as i know there is no support for sdxc that is 64 gb card type..... As for the lower gb's are sdhc which is suported.....
Here some info from wiki might help you understand a little better.....
Host devices that comply with newer versions of the specification provide backward compatibility and accept older SD cards, but older host devices do not recognize newer cards.
A newer card may offer greater capacity than the host device can handle.
A newer card may use a file system the host device cannot navigate.
Use of an SDIO card requires the host device be designed for the input/output functions the card provides.
SDXC
The Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) format supports cards up to 2 TB (2048 GB), compared to a limit of 32 GB for SDHC cards in the SD 2.0 specification.

well there are 2 methods:
using official rom to upgrade the card, i believe only certain cards are supported: [Tutorial] Upgrade your HTC HD7 memory to 32 GB
The other method is using a custom rom called xmod , which claims u can use any type of sdcard : [Tutorial] How to recover SDcard using HD7
It is better if u go with option 2 which is a more viable method, but it requires installing a custom rom.
I'm pretty sure the HD7 can take a 64GB card - the HD2 uses the same software as the HD7, and it supports 64GB SDXC.
Here is the thread that the OP was probably referring to:

Just take a jump into the rabbit hole...
and
64GB works for me!!! like a charm... on my HD2, I think HD7 definitely can use it
I'm using MIUI 2.3 btw.
What you talking about man. Come down from android. HTC HD2 isn't exactly same device with HTC HD7.

Confirmed On Surround
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I can confirm on my surround 64GB SDXC Card is no problem, I am sure it would run on the HD7 runs faster then the stock card, I have past 40 GB of storage see thread

Please tell the Brand and model, can you show some screenshots, and one from wpbench to see storage speed?
64GB SDXC... that could be a nice thing to do, but some proof is the best way to show that it really works...
I've never used the benchmarks, but it's a SanDisk Class 10 and the number is SDSDQUI-064G-A11. I will post shots later, but I do know some HD7's won't accept 64GB, Tmo one works.
One thing to note: I bought the card from BestBuy, not eBay.

The 64gb SD cards will work, but the device has to have a newer version bootloader 5.12, the 5.11 bootloader might work too!
Dr.8820 what bootloader version is your device on?
Bootloader version is 5.12.2250.0(135916).

Thank you!
It's been confirmed for a while now that the 5.12 bootloader supports 64gb SDXC cards.
I'm curious to know if the 5.11 will support it too...although I don't think it does.
I really wish my 3.1 bootloader would support it, or if someone could figure out how to hack the 5.12 bootloader to install XSPL, custom roms and it would support the 64gb SDXC card....That would be awesome!
