When are carrier specific forums coming - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hopefully soon, this is getting a bit cluttered!
Thanks mods

Yes, most of the issues being discussed are carrier/model specific. It's much more clear to have each carrier in a separate forum so all of the issues or MODs relate to our specific phone.

I think we should just have Exynos and SD forums. It's really confusing when people talk about root, dual SIM etc. and its only for Exynos. Carriers are all the same, except for couple specific programs and that would be similar to me downloading and running let's say FIOS or Asphalt 8 and other people not.

I tend to agree here since all bootloader's on SD are locked now... What does it matter which carrier you have

Why would people on AT&T want to sift through posts about issues or questions relating to Verizon our vice versa? Just using that as an example. I would rather see carrier specific threads since not all carriers have the same options our issues.

I've already read through several posts where someone is having an issue only to have several others comment, "works fine here, works great here, no problems here. Then we find out everyone has a different model/carrier/firmware.

Yep. I'm sure they'll expand the forums out soon. Just a matter of time

As this is an international forum, are we going to have forums for every carrier? Will there be a special forum for Vodafone Australia so I don't have to sift through all of these American carrier threads?
If not, we should just have Snapdragon and Exynos specific forums. From the point of view of differences in user experience and capability, the different SoC is the lowest common denominator.

Yep, that was exactly my point. Divide the forum between Snapdragon and Exynos as this is the only thing that really matters due to the bootloaders.

@svetius can you comment on this? Thanks!
I mean I guess even Exynos vs Snapdragon would be sufficient.
But carrier might be nice for very specific issues pertaining to carrier.

Carrier Specific forums are here, Crickets for now in Verizon forum but that's to be expected. Development for Verizon phones is slow. Still better than sifting through pages of topics which don't pertain to our phones.

Unlocked would use this forum because you don't have carrier specific firmware.

Deleted, already old news, lol!

carrier specific issues/chatter should acctualy be discussed over on the carrier's website/forum if you ask me( and get true support and getting issues to be noticed officially). xda should cover lower(deeper) level discussions and rom development regarding specific chipsets.
But i guess people could still post in the Q and A or guide threads anyways if they wish to discuss carriers.

[Q] S-off

Excuse my ignorance.
Has this architecture been exploited previously for s-off?
Cheers.
I believe due to HOX getting s-off it should be easy-ish to get s-off on the One.
Sent from my Incredible S using Tapatalk 2
I doubt it. This is the first phone to be sold with an S600 chip. I'm not too sure chip architecture has a massive amount to do with s-off tho. Could be wrong
However the DNA/butterfly has a closely related Qualcomm chip and that didnt take that long though but still, it'll ~probably~ be a while (months?)
So to answer your question: kind of but not really

Based on what? Your wishful thinking? This forum is rampant with threads just like this made up of nothing more that pure speculation without a shred of logic or evidence. Do XDA and it's users a favor, don't post garbage. A simple search before asking a question that has already been answered at least a dozen times would have stopped this thread from being created.
Or wait, let's use some common sense (GASP!) here, if S-OFF were achieved on this device, there would be a thread with a download for it! Imagine that!

They won't release a method if the device isn't released so HTC can't patch it, so there wouldn't be a download
But I know people are working on it and a new method may be possible if they can bypass the write protection on the CID
At least they can't test that method until this device gets superCID

Think of it like this, if the phone isn't released, we can't tell if there is S-Off or not. You'd need to wait so people can try therefore invalidating your question.

Okay, even if the T-Mobile variant is unlocked, most people will have a locked bootloader on their S4. Sprint's still the minority.

Hopefully the AT&T/Verizon variants will be as easy to unlock as the S3 was on Verizon. It didn't seem to take too long for the S3/Note 2 to have their bootloader unlocked.
S4 on Sprint so far.
Hey there... about Sprint:
Was pretty happy with picking up my S4 from Sprint.
Went to check it out on the second day of sales. They said, "Oh, we just sold the last one a couple hours ago."
I was all like, "Oh crap, and I wasn't going to come at all because I thought they would be sold out."
The guy said, "We will have more tomorrow"
So I came back the next day and got one!

GPE and/or DEV Edition work with Sprint?

Anyone know if either or both of these variants will work with Sprint? My Nexus 5 is fully compatible with Sprint as well as the GSM carriers in the US.

At least on the GPe there aren't CDMA radios (WCDMA is different from CDMA and not what Sprint uses). Sim unlocking won't help.
It's just like the M7 dev edition, it does NOT work on Sprint.

Yes, the dev edition comes with an unlocked bootloader. This doesn't mean you can't unlock the bootloader of a "regular" version M8. But we'll have to wait for that, and hope your carrier doesn't block it.

Thanks to everyone for your guidance. I guess I'm going to have to wait for another phone. I was willing to buy the M8 if I could use it on both CDMA and GSM carriers, but it looks like only the Verizon variant has all the necessary hardware. To further prove what you have all said, this is a chart from the AnandTech.com review. There are no GSM radios in the Sprint version at all.

Why would HTC not put the same radios in both CDMA models? I guess every penny counts when you are trying to keep costs down. This is the comparable chart from the M7.

Nope. There is a North America version which should work on all US and Canadian carriers. Then there is the international version, which should work on most others in the rest of the world.
The great thing about snapdragon is with only 2 versions of the phone, you can cover pretty much all the LTE bands in the world.
So if you buy from Play in the US. You get the North America version. If you buy one in Europe, you get the international version.

Note 9 us version on tmobile

Hi guys,
I'm new here and want to get yalls opinion and expertise if the unlocked US version Note 9 will work fully on tmobile network? I got it from b&h photo as it has a lot of freebies (Dex and the new dual charger) plus there's no tax.
No. 1 priority for me is if tmobile band 71 will work on this us version note 9.
Thank you in advance for all your comments and suggestions.
Great question. As far as I can tell, it has Band 71 (600mhz)...
I think TM uses some of the lowest frequencies over other carriers, like their cement drilling band 71....aweosme.
See pic attached.

It should work with all bands. Just don't expect HD voice, VOLTE or Wi-Fi calling to work.
It will absolutely have Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE. I've had several unlocked phones with them and they all offer both options. T-Mobile is very open to outside devices.
I appreciate y'alls reply.
I've read you can flash tmo's firmware with this unlocked phones to get tmo features, is that true?

For the Note 8 it is as long as it was Snapdragon.. Don't know about the Note 9.
It'll work

What t-mo features are you talking about? The only one's important enough I'm thinking of are VOLTE and wi-fi calling which the unlocked model supports.

Has this been figured out? My wife and I bought unlocked Note 9's yesterday. We have wifi calling, but my wife misses having video calling. So is it possible to flash the tmobile firmware to enable that and any other missing features from the t-mobile note 9?

Yes you can flash the tmobile firmware as long as the device you have is the US Snapdragon Note 9.

Don't know never used it
Just got mine one hour ago and so far I can confirmed that WiFi Calling is working, my phone still going thru all the updates and downloading apps on a slow internet connection here in the office.
How can I check what band is my phone using?

Use either LTE Discovery or Cell Mapper, both can be found in the Google Play Store.

Damn! Video calling is definitely missing on t-mobile. Can someone post a tutorial as to how to flash to a t-mobile software?

I do have the unlocked version on T-Mobile and everything you mentioned is supported. Check next time before posting wrong information.

And how did you verify all of these features are working?

Confirm what features don't work. I'd hazard a guess.. RCS on the stock messaging app.
