Is my phone tampered?? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I received the Note 8. I am not being picky here. But, my friends got it otherwise. Hence this question.
No seal on the black box.
The front and back of the phone have some bubbles w air/ dust (small but noticeable)
So, is it just me?

interesting, but the Note 8 box supposed to have a seal. you could check the sides of the box (where it opens) to see if you notice anywhere that has glue residue (it should be to the right of the down facing arrow). if it looks like it was removed then, yes, quite possible someone checked out your phone before you. other than that it could be someone at the factory with dirty gloves handled your device.......OR they shipped you a returned device......

Note 8 direct from samsung do not have seals... I had 3 (2 att and 1 unlocked) and none had seals on the box BUT if there were bubbles and dust under the film someone most likely removed the film and then replaced it.
Did you buy it from someone? I've had that **** on swappa where people say new resale and I find the film removed or bubbles behind it. I don't k ow why people feel the need to lie.

I don't see any seal on my phone box at all, and no glue anywhere. Verizon Note 8.

It's from Samsung direct... I understand about the seal. But bubbles on both front and back is what is freaking me out

The Tmobile ones from Samsung and direct from TMo have seals. The ones from other carriers and unlocked do not. If you read the seal, it has a bunch of Tmobile legalese, so it's TMo who puts those in (or they have a contract with Samsung to put a TMo seal for them).

What is the source of that information?

Mines was sealed T-Mobile however I did noticed some air bubble on the top part of the phone I thought it was odd but didn't pay much attention

Just anecdotal evidence. Everyone I know that bought a Note came with a seal. And the phones I've bought brand new in the past all came sealed. So I would assume all new phones comes sealed, if I am wrong then ok.

Making it more waterproof...

So...
I went swimming with the phone today and pretty much broke it
Filmed with it for about 20 mins going in and out of the water (not going deeper than half a meter).
The quality of the filming and photographing were really good but then the screen started flickering and on the left it showed kind of lines with purple pixels. Went out of the water to dry it off and phone went tripping. Shut it down and now its broken,
There was water in the battery compartment... Anyways, want it to be repared and / or samsung to get me a new one if I can pull that off.
The reason I post this here is because I want to know if there's a way to make the rubber on the inside / the USB port more waterresistand, like putting some kind of spray on it or something?
Let me know your thoughts and maybe we can make this phone more waterproof / enjoyable for everyone?
Thnx in advance!
I had the idea of doing this but I don't take my phone in water much...You can make a MUCH better gasket with some rtv silicone should have zero issue's then
I work for AT&T and there is a new policy that says we have to replace the Active for first-time water damage, even though it is not covered by Samsung's warranty. Just bring it in and be nice. The rep can exchange it for you.

I herd about that...I have a active I bought off ebay would I be able to get mine replaced or no since I don't have at&t service?
Well, I know now (because i searched the interwebz) that it's actually not as waterproof as advertised..
Since I live in The Netherlands AT&T is not my carrier, gonna try to bring it back today and hope for the best.
The reason for this thread is to know if there are any easy solutions on making it more waterproof.
So how is this rtv silicone stuff working? And how easy is it to use

The person I bought it from on ebay bought it with there upgrade? I have box can I do anything?
S4 Active water resistant improvment
the best sollution is to choose an external rubber case http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOLID-CLEAR...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item3f26fc4631
to gasket the usb hole and keep the rubber out of sun because the rubber gets soft on sun and it will last shorter if you expose your S4 to the sun
kinda like the external design of the active, so no protective cases for me.
therefor I was hoping there were any tweaks you can make inside of it

[Q] Replacing cracked glass on Note 4

My very late, in rush butt started running without realizing that my phone fell out. I got the phone back from a stranger after multiple attempts to unlock my phone and keep it. Anyways, my friends and I, we came to conclusion that my phone was ran over by a car, face down on the asphalt. Tech21 screen protector on it has multiple holes and dents from the surface of the asphalt. Luckily enough, everything is fine but the screen, of course. It cracked every where. Every tallest bumps of the road left a crack on the screen. I can barely read but actual screen is FINE. THANK GOD!!
SOOO end of story. I ordered repair kit on eBay but I was wondering if anyone went through changing the glass on Note 4 yet? am i the first one?? T.T
Edit: it's my first time replacing the glass but I've dealt with similar stuff before. If anyone would like a video of it, I could try to record it. If I crack my screen, people could cry with me or laugh at me.

It would work better if you had the machine to separate the glass from the screen. I will say if the screen is badly cracked up you might have a really low success rate.
why not just buy a whole screen? they are under $200 the last time i checked on ebay. less risk and less headache.
you can even try just the glass after you replace the screen just to do it and if it works you have a back up, if not no loss.
i have a machine and hardly use it cuz how bad people break their screens today, whole screen is the safe bet.
i don't know if its the same in your area but most places charge $100-150 to replace the glass and most places don't reapply new adhesive to the digitizer and glass . so the glass is being held onto the phone by the frame only.

I agree completely. I dropped the phone on the road while riding and except the top right corner crack on screen there is no damage. Somewhat surprising because i must be atleast 30 mph and the force with which it fell, should have broken into pieces. Not even the back cover came off the phone.

My screen cracked while snowboarding and Repairs Universe offers a new glass/digitizer assembly for $189. I contacted Samsung and they offered to repair it for $197.77, so for an additional $8 someone will do it for you. The only downside is you'll be without a phone for about 1.5-2 weeks.
I was worried about the stuff from Repairs Universe being genuine Samsung parts (wanna make sure I get a real 1440p screen and not Chinese knock off crap that's only 720p), so I contacted them. They assured me that it is a genuine Samsung screen, but they could have been lying to me just to get a sale. For that extra $8 I'll get genuine Samsung parts and it'll be getting done properly by someone that know what they're doing.
So for anyone that needs a new screen those are two options for you.

That's good to know, thanks for sharing. Yes, I agree, I'd go directly to Samsung as well, considering price is roughly the same.
Any chance you can share the phone/email of the department at Samsung you contacted? Would be good to have that handy.

I went to their website on my phone, clicked on contact us, and did a live chat with one of their customer service people. It'll ask you to choose which product you're contacting them about (phones, TVs, appliances, etc) then what kind of phone. They'll ask for your IMEI number and all that jazz. I found them to be quite polite and helpful.
The only down side is you'll be without a phone for about 2 weeks, so make sure you have a backup phone to use or prepare yourself for terriblewithdrawal from not having your Note...
Guys the people you want to contact isn't Samsung. It's their only authorized repair service in the United States. The name is RSI found in both Plano and Hurst, Texas. Here's their website: www.repairsvc.com
Dealing with them directly should reduce your wait time.

Yes, that's the price they charge. I was letting everyone know that these are the guys that Samsung uses. They use genuine OEM parts and are the only repair center in the United States authorized to do Samsung repairs. If you look earlier in the thread, someone said that Samsung charges $197.77 with a 1.5-2 week turn around. As you just said yourself, this method would be $5 cheaper and 2x faster than going through Samsung to get the same place to repair your phone. Just was putting it out there if someone wanted 100% assurance that they were getting genuine OEM parts but didn't want to wait 1.5-2 weeks that Samsung quoted them.

Yup same reason I haven't cancelled the tmo 'jump' subscription. You do have to factor in the $10 per month subscription price though, so if you break your phone in 10 months, it's $275.
T-Mobile insurance to replace phone is $175 I just filed a claim on Saturday and got a new phone not refurbished today. The only problem is I had a Note 4 in White but they sent Gray since White was not in stock. I called T-Mobile and complained and got a $30 credit applied to my account so I really just paid $145

Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge replacement back glass

Has anyone seen replacement back part for the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge as of yet? I've tried searching around on eBay but haven't found anything yet (maybe too soon right now).
If not too expensive (since it's just glass) I was hoping to stock up on a few of these just for spare in case it ever gets cracked (I'm okay with the heatgun removal method).
Sidenote: Another reason for personally getting one is because I am getting the Verizon-branded model so hoping to replace that ugly back.
UPDATE: Found a few here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59778918&postcount=3

I plan on going caseless so I would like to be ready to account for accidental drops and scratches rather than buying the part later when I need it. It's pretty cheap and honestly not that hard for me to replace. I fix mobile devices at work so I have plenty experience working with heatguns. Of course I was partially kidding about buying so many, I'll just buy one for now.
There'll inevitably somebody using a half black half white S6!

For some reason they do have different part numbers so it could very likely be ever-so-slightly different on the Edge model. I would be safe and get the Edge version instead if you can.
OP, I watched the tear down video you posted (as well as another one) . Seems to me that if you break the back glass it's a simple fix, but if you break the front glass, it's a VERY involved process to replace it at home. Since removing the back glass seems very simple compared to front one.
Is that accurate?

Well if you break the back glass yes it's very simple, just have to heat it and come right off with a suction cup. But the front glass is fused to the display so you would have to replace the display and glass all in one essentially. It's not particularly hard otherwise just a few more steps and things to take out involved.
Yep. Ordering 1 and having it at the house just in case something happens to my phone. I never use case so I want to be prepared

Yeah, back glass seems really easy, and if I break it, I'd just order the part # you liked us to, and do it myself.
For the front though, it looked like there was way more involved than just a few more steps! 12-13 screws, 6-7 ribbon clips, lot of adhesive. The tear down videos almost convinced me that if I break my front glass, it might be better for me to just pay the $175 deductible and get a warranty replacement.

The edge and flat S6 are different sizes in every dimension. The edge is slightly shorter and narrower, but a bit thicker. So definitely buy the one for the model you have.
It'll take a lot to break the Gorilla 4 glass....our S6 is a BEAST! But then again, it is possible....this is why unless you're on carpet 24/7, get a case and a screen protector.
Simple, straight to the point, no BS with a lot of talking video on a hammer and knife test. You'll be proud.
Mind you....again....KEEP IN MIND.....a simple drop or a real world casual bump won't do anything to our S6 LOL....in the video you'll see the guy applying brute force, which isn't typically a real world scenario. I mean we're seeing the extreme times 100+ being done to our S6's....
This brings a lot of peace of mind.....the build quality is the best I've seen of any phone to date. Period.
However, it is glass and glass meeting pavement is not quite the best combo....it can break and it probably will if the phone drops from around 5 feet or more. It all depends...landing angle etc....
Nevertheless, it's wise and recommended to get a case and screen protector for the S6.
Kudos to Samsung!
I'm waiting for different colors to come out. I've seen an Iron Man mock up edge that someone did, looks beautiful.

Well, for me, I hate how Verizon goes out of its way to uglify its phones with branding, and the Galaxy S6 Edge has it the worst. If I can, I want to replace the backplate as a two fingers up to Verizon statement. Besides that, though, I'd just rather have the option of replacing them. I likely won't break them, but usually, these things are sold by Chinese companies overseas, and paying for shipping multiple times is almost just as expensive as having one or two more than you actually need.
Oh yeah, how about Black and Gold/Silver Back... hmmm

It's just going to happen again anyway. Light bleed will eventually return as you use the device. There's nothing wrong with the device man.
I have just left the service center, they said they will need to check to see if its vaild for replacement or not. They initial try NOT to acknowledge the issue and said they couldn't see it. Will see what they have to say in 45min. I am very disappointed how Samsung treat me as a customer who bought their highest tier note 9 and note 8 previously. If they don't give me a replacement I am going to sell it via eBay and get a iPhone after 12th conference. Not happy about it !

My s7e is perfectly fine too. It's absurd someone to be ok with compromises in 1000/1250 euro phone! No excuses in that price range, it's samsung problem the rushed first batches of as many devices as they can! Not yours as a customer that pays so much money for a phone to be faced with constructive defect and then decline an exchange.
OP, can't you just use the law to return the phone in 7 (14 in some countries) days?
Lucky you. Just got my phone back from Samsung customer case and they ask me to believe its completely normal, which is not in my opinion. The 512gb is around 1400USD or so. (bought it in hong kong HKD9798)

No I get what you are saying but I'm not drawing on my expensive phone. Nevermind I don't keep it in a case it's just gonna get on my hands and clothes. My phone isn't black, and permanent marker stinks

return it as fast as you can then. but a nice thin case like the seidio surface might be a good alternative if you want to keep it.( case should hug the phone right up to the edges)
a good permanent marker doesn't stink or rub off once its full dry...

Sharpie stinks. But I don't have light bleed so I'm not sweating it. Just seems like if you spend that much on a device it shouldnt be a fixer upper.

Galaxy Watch 3 arrived with seal broken

Received the watch 3 today after finally ordering late last week. Was planning to trade in my S3 Frontier (I also have the Galaxy Watch).
However the Watch 3 box looks to have been opened on 1 end as the tape is completely separated. Anyone else have this problem?
Also I'm used to seeing perfectly clear tape on the box but this tape is already yellowing which could mean it was exposed to heat. This box can't be that old.
I haven't turned it in yet or even taken it out of the box. Still trying to decide if it's worth $350 after trade in especially after it arrived open.
There is 2 seals (one on each side) normally.
This one is simple rubber, but the top one is white with some stuff written on it. Was it also cut ?
The rubber on your pics seems damaged and dirty...
Not acceptable at this price point, did you buy directly from samsung shop ?

Yes, ordered directly from Samsung.
The first pic is the bottom seal, it was definitely cut. The other pic is the top seal. It wasn't cut but is definitely yellow.
I agree on the price point. I requested a return this morning and dropped it off to FedEx this afternoon. I'm getting a refund. Maybe I'll look to upgrade in a few months but receiving a package like that left a bad taste in my mouth.
Bummer, but wise move to get it replaced!
