I really want to love it, but lately every time I try a command to Bixby, it comes back with a Connection Problem and to try again. But Google Assistance works fine. Guessing Samsung's servers is having issues? I always thought it was native to our device and not having to upload commands to process and decipher.
Happened three times for me. Kind of irritating
maybe location specific?
since this is my first sammy, ive been using bixby to see if i like it over google and ive not seen that error. ive had this phone since initial launch batches (tmobile variant)

When i had an connection issue, with Bixby (similar like you )
Bixby was giving connection problems
and Google Assistant was working fine .
i eventually, found that my one 3rd party app , Adguard was causing it .
Adguard uses a VPN ( server )
I whitelisted/exempted , Bixby in Adguard app list and has no connection issues since .
Above connection issue, i experienced on my S8+ and again when i forgot
to configure Adguard (VPN) on my Note 8 .

I also use Adguard. Thanks for your tip!
What web address do you enter for Bixby?

I'm experiencing problems with Gmail and whatsapp: whenever I'm on my home wifi the push does not work. But more problematic, sometimes it does work. Next to that when I go into whatsapp after a day of no messages they all arrive at once.
So I'm able to receive messages and Internet works, but the push services doesn't work most of the time! I'm not on stamina mode or any other battery app (BTW battery of my z1 is worse than my sp).
Does anyone have an idea how to find out if there's a culprit or what settings I've messed up?

So nobody has a clue I gather?
To my look like the Auto-Sync is OFF so turn it ON. If is already ON probably Gmail and Whazzuppe is not in the list so you have to addict it manually + Add Account.

Thanks for thinking with me, though that is not the case! Sync is on and it works perfectly on other wifi networks.
I can report a more peculiar fact: pinging google.com with Fing results in 100% packet loss, though pinging for example tweakers.net gives me an average of 40msec. Strangely I can brows to www.google.com in Chrome... It seems as though there's something very wrong with my Z1 because pinging Google.com with my Xperia SP does work!
Any news on this?
I'm experiencing the exact same problem. It has been around for at least a couple of months on my Nexus 4.
Most of the times I don't receive any push notifications. I need to open the app manually, wait a couple of seconds, and then all the new messages come in.
Here is what I tried so far:
- Notification settings for each app
- Reinstalled complete OS
- Background data is allowed
- Wifi policy is "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" -> Always
- I don't have any battery savings or task killer apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599417
I also tried this, and now I only have the OS and Whatsapp installed. But the problem persists.
I have the same problems since KitKat.
Sometimes I have to open the app to become the messages.
I had this problem with 681, then I done a full wipe and installed the 757 rom.
But i also have this problem....
So as it turns out, the problem only exists in my wifi at home.
When I'm at the university everything works fine.
I also noticed that facebook and instagram are very slow on my phone at home.
And only the apps, not the websites.
(this also has been around for a couple of months)
Having the same issue with my HTC M8. Guess I just have to find out what settings are causing this on my router.
Edit: Fixed it. My VPN's DNS servers were blocking push. Changing them back to googles DNS brought push back.
Actually, I was also facing the problem. I tried to get it solved by uninstalling all the recently downloaded apps, but it didn't work for me. And I couldn't uninstall all the apps.
Then I got the idea that it may be because of some setting on my router. I don't know much about router settings. So, I finally installed the VPN App Opera Max and it worked. It was a big relief for me.

Max does not change DNS settings so in theory it shouldn't fix this issue. It's possible that your issue was unrelated to this one.
I just updated my watch to Android Wear 2.0
If I try to use Google Assistant while my phone is connected to WiFi, it works (and really well, like to send a whatsapp to someone)
The moment I try to use Google Assistant without WiFi (over Mobile Data) it says 'Can't reach Google, check if watch is connected to WiFi or your phone'
Funny thing: if I connect the phone to a WiFi signal WITHOUT Internet connection, assistant works again...?
Does anyone else have this problem? I already tried enabling every option at Settings/Apps/System Apps/Google ...

Well that is one of the reasons I rolled back to 1.5.
It would work sometimes and many times it would give me that cant reach message so basically it was making my watch useless as it was very inconsistent. :/
I'm having the same issues, I've done the enabling permissions thing as well. Any one have any other experience with the issue?
Along side google assistant not working the play store won't load or even the weather!
That being said, even though those services aren't working google maps on wear runs fine.
These are some odd problems.
*** Update! ***
Not sure what happened but for some reason it started working.

Did you factory reset anything? (your phone or watch?) installed or flash something?
Well I am on the 2 core enabled kernal. I also followed instructions to give Google all permissions on the app Page. I turned on location from phone on the watch (not sure if that helps) and probably reset about 5-7 times haha.

Ohhh.
I also have the 2 core enabled kernel. If it's not much to ask, could you be more specific on the steps for the permissions and the location? Thanks in advance.

Sure, open settings--> apps ---> (Scroll down) system apps ----> google ---> permissions ---> enable permission to phone/etc... (I enabled all of them)
I noticed something today, make sure you have location services turned on, on your phone. I turned it off for a minute by accident and noticed none of the google assistant stuff worked anymore, back on and it worked well!
Cheers

Thank you! I'll try it next time I update to AW2, right now I'm using 1.5 again
Also having somewhat of the same issue... Here's what's happening to me.
Sometimes Google Assistant works and sometimes it's doesn't for me. When it's not working my watch shows that I am not connected to Bluetooth in the connectivity settings. However, my phone (ZTE Blade X Max Z983) shows I'm fully connected, and I'm getting all notifications as normal on my Asus Zenwatch 2. If I reboot both devices everything works perfectly as it should for a short time. And of course it works fine when I'm connected to WiFi, just not over Bluetooth on a mobile data connection. Both my phone and my watch are running 7.1 so I'm not sure if the where the issue lies.
Bixby has been working fine for me until late last night and continuing until today. When asking a command, keep getting a "Looks like there's a connection issue. Let's try again". Bixby is up-to-date, I have tried on mobile data and wifi (there is no connection issue), and restarted my phone. I'm on T-Mobile.
Anyone else experiencing problems?

Bixby. is working fine. No issues.!
Secondly, when i had similar
issues with Bixby., a while back (connection problem)
i eventually pin pointed the reason.
I had Adguard (blocker)
installed that roots connection
through a VPN.
I whitelisted Bixby in Adguard
and have no connection issues any more.
Do you use any app. similar to Adguard
that roots traffic through VPN.?
Thanks for the reply but no, I don't believe I have any apps like you mentioned since I have no idea what that means lol
Solved my own problem. Went into Apps and cleared data for every app with Bixby in it. Restarted phone, had to retrain Bixby but working now.

Don't you have a. advert blocker eg AdHell, Adguard
etc.on your device. To block adverts, pop-up, etc "it" re route your browser internet traffic through a VPN.. etc, thus Bixby cannot function properly as it is re routed
If your Bixby connection problems continue
you must look what app you got on your phone
that's maybe interfering with Bixby connection.
Bottom line.. go to
Phone /Settings/General. management /Reset /Reset Network settings......
reset Network settings. (hope you know what this entails.?)
Good luck
I started having problems last night. Was working great before, now the bixby launcher button is barely functioning. There's a long delay after activating it and doesn't hear any of my commands. Frustrating.

alot of people would like to be in your situation.
did you wipe cache and data in recovery?
Hi community,
Seeking help here. I have never had any issues with regards to VPN connection on my note 9. I have subscription with CyberGhost VPN however I also have free versions of Thunder VPN and X-VPN.
The issue which occurred today that I cannot fix. I am able to connect using both the paid/free VPNs mentioned above, however once connected, my real IP is still transparent.
When I open the 'key lock' android system VPN management popup, I can see that no data is sent or received even though I have surfed web, watched videos etc. I used ipleak.net to confirm the when connected to VPN my IP transparent.
When I restart the device and connect vpn, it works normally i.e. ip not is transparent. But after some time it automatically becomes transparent again. Power saving is never on. I have to restart device again for VPN to work normally again, albeit a short time.
Anyone encountered similar issue and/or have any solution?
I am having the same issue as well, first everything worked fine and suddenly vpn is not working anymore although it says it is connected. I am using Cyberghost as well but tried other software with the same effect (connects normally but no data goes through the vpn connection)
Haven't found a solution up till now, it is very annoying.
Where did you buy your note 9?
Mine is Australian version from Optus. No solution so far. I contacted samsung and they told me to do factory reset.. haven't tried that yet. So annoying!
Hmm ok yes i saw that too as a probable solution when people with older Samsung devices had a problem like this but factory reset i only want to do as a last resort because it's going to be a haggle to set everything right again. If i do it and it works i will reply again.
My one was bought in Thailand by the way and model number is SM-N960F/DS
Same model as yours except not DS. It seems to be a software issue. Don't know what has triggered this. It was working just fine.
It must have been triggered by the latest software update because my nephew in the Netherlands has the same issue when he tried to use the vpn just now. It worked after rebooting the phone and then his connection dropped after 10 minutes and now his vpn connection isn't working anymore.
So three Note 9 phones all bought in a different country and region have the same issue, weird that this problem hasn't come up on forums more unless the cyberghost app broke our vpn capabilities..
Oh ok that is interesting. I tried other free vpns also with same result. But I was using cyberghost before this problem...
I really don't want to do factory reset.
Same issue in Canada
I am in Canada and I'm having the same issue. What I have found, is it if I download a DNS changer, and I change the DNS, once in awhile it starts working again. But this is completely unreliable.
This seems to have been an issue for a while and for a business marketed phone, it's quite perplexing that Samsung/Google have not dealt with this issue yet.
I got a temporary solution from cyberghost. It's requires setting up L2TP vpn connection. It's not as fast but it does the trick for now. I noticed from my searches this has been an issue since Samsung S8...hopeless!
Is this a Samsung problem or an Android problem? Samsung is telling me to send my Note 9 in for repair bit I am not convinced there is anything they can do. I have tried a factory reset but it was of no help.
I guess deleting all VPN profiles from device but very one will do a thing
Did the latest samsung update but still doesn't work. Any solutions?
The only solution that worked for me is to set up vpn manually.
Add a new device at Cyberghost account management and manually enter the pre-shared key, username and password given and choose ipsec protocol and on your device choose L2TP/IPSEC PSK.
Then you have to connect to the VPN there instead of the Cyberghost App and you will have full vpn functionality although slower than the app which is using OpenVPN or Ikev2 protocol but it's better then nothing.
I use OpenVPN for Android and under Advanced you need to set 'Use VPN for All apps except' and set route all traffic over VPN.
This did change somewhere in Oreo, it didn't used to be like this.
betternet vpn works a treat. no issues with transparency 48hrs after reboot.
PIA works without issues.
Hi,
I know there are a lot threads about this but still I think my problem a bit different or I couldn't yet find anything fix my problem.
So it is not so complicated I use my phone and usually after some time 3-10 days or so the wi-fi is not connecting anymore. It is just ignoring every single router and everything. Then I restart it and ok again. I don't use any super app no antivirus or firewall no vpn nothing. Messenger, viber, whatsapp... some very common app is running. Wi-fi + is off no difference anyway. Latest update. Unbranded device. So anybody any idea?
