Phone will not power up - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Last night, I connected my 3T to an Anker PowerCore 10000. Two of the Anker's LEDs were flashing which I took to mean that it was charging my phone.
This morning, I woke up to a dead phone. Right now it's hooked up to the OnePlus charger that came with the phone but it shows no signs of life.
Is there anything I can do besides wait?
Thanks.

The waiting game is only what you can play for now. There have been reports of supposedly "dead" 3/3T devices coming back to life after a 6-12 hour persistent, undisturbed charge.
If there's no life after that, open a RMA Ticket and send your device back.
Good Luck!

Thanks. They suggest holding the power key down for 20 seconds 5 times., then Power+VolumeDown. Did that with no joy.
So I'll just leave it on the charger.

Decided to start another 20 seconds power on cycle and when I pressed Power, the OnePlus logo appeared!!
Thanks for sending all those good vibes.

[Q] Android ROMs causing accelerated battery death?

I bought my son-in-law a 32gb touchpad in April of this year. He has run almost exclusively on Android. He powered it off last week, and now he can not power it back on. He's tried every suggestion posted. I'm seeing more thraeds about people in the same boat. Is it just poor quality or is it something else?
The battery is likely dead. They have a problem with charging when dead. Plug it in, hold the power button, and press the home button in rapid succession 15 times. Should boot to a charging animation. Let it charge for a while.

Do you have a touchstone, if so leave it on that it is the only thing that has worked for me .
See this article by Reverend Kyle http://www.reverendkyle.com/index.php/articles/146-hp-touchpad-charging-issues-solution .
I hope this helps.

Also, try charging through the USB on a computer for a while... the idea is anything to trickle charge it before it tries to boot up and has no power. Some people let it charge for a min, unplug it, let it sit, and plug it in again, and do it all over.
It will come on eventually...
He's tried all of these. He even opened it up and disconnected/reconnected the battery. He's currently letting it drain completely and try again. It's been almost a week now.
I can't say its Android persay but how your device handles Android. I have 3 TouchPads in my home and frequently they run out of battery and have never had an issue charging. I service about 10 others that belong to friends and not of those has that issue. Its kinda like the ones with wifi and audio issues, the ones with issues almost always have them no matter what version of Android they run. My suggestion, hopefully once you get it running buy a Touchstone and use only that to charge

He has a touchstone and that's how he usually charges. I boot back and forth between android and webos, mostly on webos. He's had his touchpad since May 4, 2012, just out of warranty.

Then you simply have one of those that won't tolerate being completely drained I guess. Getting it back up and going is hit and miss, no concrete steps since each one with this hardware issue is different
Good luck

How long has he left it to charge? and does he have a micro usb cable like for you phone?
He's been alternating between AC, USB trickle, and touchstone for about a week now. Yes he's has a micro USB cable.
I think I'm going to let my battery die and see if I can bring it back.

well, I was able to be active on both webOS and cm9 down to 4%, then it went black. Yes, I got the warnings. So I left it alone for about 10 minutes, then placed on the touchstone and, wala! It started charging. No trickle charge, no a.c charger, just the touchstone. I was at 100% this morning.

[Q] Moto x battery draining from 23 percent to 3 percent quickly! please help

okay guys, I need your help! I bought my moto x from verizon on wednesday. Since I bought it my battery has been acting REALLY strange. I brought it home and it had about 40 percent charged. When it got down to 23 percent it shot down to 3 percent in 2 minutes! I plugged it in right away and it shot back up to 23 percent. I didn't even think anything of it. I charged it up 100 percent. It was working perfect untill it got down to 23 percent. It shot back down to 3 percent in about 2 minutes once again! so I plugged it back in and then unplugged it at about 30 percent. it did the same thing once again so I just let it die completely. I charged it up to about 10 percent. It was working fine so I thought it fixed itself. So I charged it completely once again. then once it got low again it did the same thing. I let it died and charged it up to about 20 percent and it was working fine. I forgot to mention whenever it got down to 3 percent...it began to work normal again. Its very very very weird! So have any of you guys heard anything like this? Please help me! and P,S I have tried resetting the whole phone.
I know it would have been hard to hold back from using the Moto X straight away after buying it, but I'm guessing u didn't let the phone charger for a few hrs before powering it on for the first time hey? Maybe its a battery calibration issue? Short of rooting the phone and running software to recalibrate, I reckon u should just take it back to Verizon and try get it swapped over... Just in case it may be a faulty battery after all.
Sent from my XT1058
I think I should take it back and swamp it for another one. like the first 3 or 4 full charges of the phone it did it...but I just fully charged it this morning and its down to 15 percent. it seems like its working fine. I dont wanna think its working fine and then a couple of weeks down the road it does it again. then im out of the return dates. So I should just return it just in case?
My moto x also have same problem, don't know why, and I can't return it because I live outside USA, the problem just when I update the ota update

I have the opposite problem, from 85% it gets fully charged in two minutes. My battery seems to drain normally but I have significantly worse battery life since it started doing this. I'm down to about 17 hours with 2 hours of screen on, the first weekend I had it, it was over 24 hours with 3+ hours screen time.
I have the DE so I haven't returned it just yet due to the hassle.
Update...so i returned it back to verizon and got a new phone. DOES THE SAME EXACT THING. UGH. I noticed on my old moto x with each charge it was getting better and better. like the first charge it started at 20 percent and then drained. then last night before i returned it..it started at about 10 percent and drained quick. so maybe this is normal? and just see how it is with every charge?
That's sucks man. What are that chances! Are u doing the initial charge before use per the manual? I know it sounds trivial but I think it might be important to calibrate the battery?
Sent from my XT1058
every one tells me that how I should charge it completely before using it. I didnt do that with this device. I just used it right away. I never gave it any thought cause I never did it with my old devices. I talked to a person from motorola and they said because all the stuff you do right away it could mess up the phone and confuse the battery. They said with every day and every charge it should get better and better. does this sound possible? how would I calibrate it?

Good to get official confirmation that the initial charge is indeed important .. Thanks for letting us know!
I'm pretty sure that once u root the phone you can get an app to clear the battery stats / recalibrate.. Personally though, I would take this second one back to Vzw again and just get a new one to start again and maybe this time pls do the initial charge before going nuts... Don't worry, I know how hard it was to refrain from using it lol

Actually I found an app on the playstore to recalibrate without needing root. So I did charge it to 100 percent and calibrated it. Hopefully it works! I would return this one also but verizon is a joke. They said im only allowed one exchange even if its a bad phone. They said the second exchange will have to go through warranty which means they will send me a refurbished phone through the mail. which is complete bull**** if you ask me. I dont want a refurbished phone when I just got a new one. I think ill wait a few days to see if it fixes itself.

[Q] Nexus 6 shutting down at 50% battery. :(

Looks like I am the second person to report this? Anybody else having a similar problem? Super bummed. :crying:
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/2nrqqe/nexus_6_shuts_off_at_about_50_percent_battery/
"I have been fighting the exact same thing for 10 days now. Tonight I finally did my 6th factory image back to stock restore. Every day it gets worse. Started of just dying fast. 2 hours screen on time at most. Then it started shutting off at 50%. Then 64%. As of right now as soon as it gets to 73% it flashes power saving mode briefly and then shuts off instantly and won't power back on until I charge it. I can charge it for 2 or 3 minutes and then it boots up and says its already charged to 85%.
At the end of my rope with this. Already initiated my RMA earlier tonight but it makes me very very sad as this has been my most favorite Android ever and I have had *tons* of them. I know they don't have any replacement devices in stock anywhere and I'm not waiting weeks for repair of my 10 day old phone. Sending it back for a refund. Might try one again a few months down the road."
Well I tried going back to my Note 3 last night but after 15 minutes I was hating it. After one last factory reset last night in a dire attempt to somehow make it work it now shuts off shortly after hitting 97% battery. Moto hasn't been very much help. They suggested I do another factory reset and see if that fixes it. They are escalating my ticket but I have to call back tomorrow during normal "Order Administration Department" business hours, although he doesn't make it sound like they have any replacements available at this time he said order admin should be able to help.
I don't think this is anything I can be fixing on my end. Sounds like either some bad batteries are made it passed QC or the Turbo Charger is destroying batteries that were on the edge of not passing QC already. Phone does get very hot when turbo charging. Either way, color me crushed. :crying:
Damn dude!
Go through with the RMA. You got a dud, no other way to cut it.
Oh... and answer your texts!
Any update on this? I am experiencing the same thing though it happened around 73%. Once the phone was off it would not turn on unless I plugged it in (displayed dead white battery image on black screen). Once I plugged in, the phone booted back up and began charging from 73%. I had the phone for over a week and today is the first time it happened.

Exact same thing. So let me ask you a question, do you charge overnight? I have for many years but I haven't at all with the Nexus 6 because the turbo charge is so fast that its always charged to 100% before I go to sleep. So since I got the N6 as soon as it hits 100% I unplug it and just set on my nightstand for the night.
Anyways, and I could be very wrong, I am wondering if it's not actually getting charged to 100% when it says it is for some reason? I finally got fed up with it last night and left if on the turbo charger overnight even though it already said it was charged 100%. Well today its been off the charger for about 8 hours and still hasn't shut down, at 84% now. Last night it was shutting off at 97% but when I would boot to bootloader it would say BATTERY: low charging.
Still waiting on Moto at this point.
I actually have a different experience. After one day, with one full charge, it shut down, stuck on google icon and only can charge it, i can log on boot-loader, make hard reset but it still not start. I made manual flash of factory image and now it works fine. Still have doubts that happened because of the battery. I put it on the table at night with 100% and wakes up with 75%
@GrandMasterB - So it's almost like the battery stats need(ed) cleared??? Hmmmm.....

I leave it charging overnight. I am thinking maybe it's a battery calibration issue as well.

Welp, I thought everything was going pretty well today after charging it overnight. Been off the charger for almost 11 hours now with 34 minutes screen on time and still running but as soon as it hit 72% it shut off. I officially give up. I can't have this thing dying randomly in the middle of the day like this. Please let me know what happens with yours.
I believe moto has inventory set aside for returns. I was going to return mine (sticker falling off) and was told I would get one in 2-3 days and not dependent on normal inventory.

I want to add I haven't used my wireless charger and I did not experience this issue again. I had about 60% last night when I charged it with the cable before bed. Not sure if it is related to wireless charging.
All these are happening with the ATT model? Not the other carrier models.

I do have a Choe Stadium wireless charger I ordered specifically for the Nexus 6. I've never had a wireless charger before. I used it the very first night and never had the chance to use it again because I was constantly having to Turbo Charge to keep it up and running.
Still had this happen at least 2x a day for 13 days straight until I sent it back yesterday. Got to work yesterday and pulled it out of my pocket to box up and it was dead at 81%. So I supposed the wireless charger could have cause that initial damage ( if thats what happened ) but my problem didn't get better after after I stopped wireless charging. In fact it got worse everyday.

AT&T sent me a new one with OEM box and cable/charger/booklets. Looks brand new. They told me 3-5 days to ship but it came the next day. No questions asked. Didn't even want to know what was wrong with the old one. I get a discount from work so I had to contact the AT&T Premier support.

How's the new one?
I got mine from Google on Monday and have same results - phone powers down at 50-60%, when trying to turn it on complains battery's depleted.
Attaching USB charger (not turbo one), charging for a minute and turning phone on again shows battery at 51%-62%
Interesting fact is that I am using same wireless charger - though a friend of mine is also using it and had his phone for much longer and hasn't noticed any issues like that.
Does the new phone works OK?

Wont boot up?

Hi guys,
I'm having issues with my Mi mix where it just shut down by its self and will no longer boot up anymore, it will load the Mix logo for a few seconds (after the initial Mi one) before shutting down. I can access the recovery, and have tried flashing a new rom, as well as fastbooted the original rom on. Is there any way to fix this?
Also, when plugging in the charge cable it will show charging, but stuck on 67%, it doesnt go above that with overnight charging.
Cheers,

Well maybe unplugging battery for a while may sort it, watch a teardown before attempting, I suspect the battery is actually flat and needs charging but it's stuck in some weird situation. You didn't say wether it was rooted with TWRP.

I've never been able to receive a new device and let it charge all the way up before using it. Today will be no different for me, I'm playing with my new Note 9 as soon as I take it out of the box. IMO, battery conditioning is not necessary. I've never worried about it, and I've never had problems with battery life.
Hello for battery calibration is recommanded to charge it at 5% to 100%
Just enjoy it. Mine came with 60 pc and charged at 15. Never done any ritual dance or calibration and never had a problem.
Got mine with 55% and used until it died. Like the others have said, I've never worried about when and how long I've charged a battery and never had issues.
There are tons of info on this online. General rule is you do not want to charge 100% nor run it down to 0%. This is bad for the battery. I just try to keep my phone away from 0 and 100. Usually at 40-70. Accubattery app is pretty helpful in this regard.

I agree. Except for the fact that science shows it's right. People are actually paid to do this research, unlike us posting on a message board with our opinions that make zero sense. Do with your phone as you like, obviously, but don't disregard the science out of hand. Most people don't care because they keep their phone for a year and dump it, if you want to preserve battery life and keep a phone for longer than a year it makes good sense to follow the science.

Strange...every phone I've ever owned has had a battery that lasts longer than a year.

The first time I get a new device, I like to drain the battery completely before charging it again. It's become a habit, and my devices' batteries have never given me issues. Not about to change now.

It really doesn't matter for todays batteries.
You should all watch this video for the truth about modern cell phone batteries.

I did the 40-80% on my note 8 regularly. The next owner will be much pleased ?

I would say this:
After you are done setting up the phone, erased cache in recovery and ready to play with it, do this first to avoid calibration issues...
1. Use the phone and let the battery get drained to zero and shut down automatically.
2. See if it turns on (without charging) by pressing the power on key. Probably it won't but if it does , use and let it drain till it shuts down.
3. Now charge it fully without switching the phone on.
4. Turn it on , plug the charger and charge it again for the remaining charge to fill.
5. Use the phone and don't charge in between at all. Let the battery get drained to zero and shut down.
6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5.
7. Plug the charger, switch it on and charge till 100%. It's calibrated now, I believe.
....
After this, DO NOT repeat this 100 to Zero and Zero to 100% charging 'coz it'll shorten the battery health and if you plan to use the phone for say above one year, 2 yrs etc. Now on, Do not let it go below say.. 20 % and above, say 70,80 %. Keep charging in the middle whenever you feel like. It'll keep the battery healthy and will last longer.
Some people are so damn stubborn. The researchers... nevermind.
I didn't want to let my phone die because my friend's note 8 bricked because of it. I trickle charged it and managed to get it to start again after an hour. But then he left it on and it bricked again. So I didn't want to risk it. I had a portable charger so I let it juice up while I was playing with it lol
Just use the damn phone.
The other advice is to keep your phone cool when new as you're updating and transferring data etc batteries don't like heat.
Let it die, let it stay without electricity for 3-4 hours and charge it. Let it stay at %100 for 1 hour.
the legend says u should chatge it one u take it out of the box
don`t believe that.. i got my s7 edge and i didn`t charge it first time, i played with it until itvget 12% charge then i charged it to 100%
i didn`t get any problem with battery at all
