You either install root again, or you do not install system updates and wait for new pre-rooted image. There is no permanent solution as system-update will Unroot as precaustion.

Nexus 6 Nougat Root with SuperSU

I can't seem to find the answer to this.
I've just flashed the Nougat Factory image for Nexus 6 and want root. Can anyone confirm is the latest SuperSU is compatible? I've flashed TWRP and downloaded the latest SuperSU but just a little hesitant to flash it in case of issues.
Thanks a lot.
Yep I rooted just fine. works ok.

I had no problems with the latest version, which I installed last night (downloaded factory image, extracted to PC and fastboot flashed through bootloader, rebooted to recovery and flashed SuperSU 2.78-SR1).

Perfect. Flashed and working great. Thank you! :good:
If you enjoy having an unknown organization having absolute godlike control over your phone, then sure, use stupidsu.
But if you like to have auditable and sane control over your own device, I would very VERY much suggest that you instead use https://github.com/seSuperuser/AOSP-SU-PATCH

new to Nexus 6, just got Nougat OTA, whats the best way to root and have double tap to wake (will it drain battery big time?) and notification led? pls help, tia
btw I use Mac
Isn't the nexus 6 supposed to be 100% stock Android and with that being able to be rooted by any root method? I know I've read many times that if you want to get into root and hacking to pick up a nexus device as they were easily recoverable and weren't root blocked by any means

Not sure what exactly you're asking but the Nexus 6 is easily rooted when using the proper methods. Unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash TWRP recovery and then flash SuperSU or Magisk in TWRP.

no 7.x OTA yet?

should I be surprised that my phone still says it is current.. no system update?
I unlocked bootloader (to avoid future data loss), but other than that I am stock (3.5.4)
Just curious if they are still iterating thru all of the phones and will eventually get to mine, or if my phone is somehow out of sync.
thanks
Mike
If you are still on 3.5.X its normal. OnePlus has not yet globally released the update to OOS 4 aka Android 7. If you are waiting for OTA, all you can do is wait.
Some VPN tricks can be googled if you get inpatient.
I'm running 3.5.4 on OnePlus3T and I have also no OTA available to Android 7.
I have unlocked bootloader, TWRP 3.0.3-1 and root though.
you can also sideload image avaliable in net

I know.
My previous phone was a rooted nexus 4 and my current tablet is a rooted nexus 9. At every update I need to sideload the update.
Now I want to try updating without sideloading...
And I'm in no hurry to try Android 7. I have it already on my Nexus 9.
Here its pretty simple system update> menu>local storage> select FULL Ota file. No adb/fboot needed

Tiny detail I forget about. Ive been few years away from stock, till now.

Can I install OTA update using phone after unlocked bootloader ?

The situation is like this :
I want to restore data of apps and games from my Galaxy Note 4 to my new Oneplus 3T using titanium backup. So I think maybe I can unlock Oneplus 3T > root it > restore data using Titanium > unroot > Relock . Just then I know relock will erase all of your data. So now, the plan will only be Unlock Oneplus 3T > root it > restore data using Titanium > unroot > Relock .
I want to keep my phone unroot because some games did not run when rooted. Currently, my phone is Marshmallow 6.0 . I do want to update to Android N 7.0 . So can I apply the OTA update (without custom recovery) through my phone after unrooted but unlocked bootloader ?

I recommend the use of Magisk to hide root from your games and banking apps and you can play the games and have root at the same time.
Just unlock the bootloader
Flash twrp
Flash magisk
Install and restore Titanium backup
Restore your app/game data or copy paste the obb
Use Magisk manager to hide root from your desired games and banking apps
Play the game as usual
Enjoy

If I am not mistaken, when you are rooted, you can flash the OTA files via twrp, then flash SuperSu to gain root again.
But my area currently having a super slow internet connection  but then I think I can just download those OTA files and wait... . Ahhhh.. I really want to keep phone rooted. Want to explore everything like in previous Sammy phone.

Can't you just get the full rom files from xda or oneplus forums and flash them manually? It seems like a lot of messing about just for OTA, your internet can't be THAT slow.

I'm currently rooted and have just had the OTA message. How do I update to 7.11 without losing root?

I don't know much about magisk. Never use it before. Now it look interesting. I think I want to try it. Can you clarify a little bit about magisk, and things I need to know before flashing it and maybe... the procedure flashing it

You need to download a full update from oneplus website (eg : http://downloads.oneplus.net/devices/oneplus-3t/). The files must exceed 1gb or more.
Then you need to flash it using Twrp. Then re-root by flashing SuperSU .

Yes. I've done restored data and updated to android 7.1.1.
After restored data, I unrooted and flash stock recovery
Reboot my phone into recovery mode, flash the update files via install from internal data . Just a summary.

No I don't think so, as the system is not built that way. The ota install would fail do just go with my op with instructions

That version SuperSU 2.46 is ancient, like 2015 Lollipop era! Root methods constantly change, and you need to use a relatively current SuperSU version.
I've applied 2 updates now (while rooted, unlocked bootloader), without a hitch using Funk Wizard's guide and SuperSU 2.79.

root sm-t810 on Nougat?

hello,
recently purchased an s2 tab sm-t810 running 7.0 out of the box and want to root it in order to have Xposed. I looked at the root guides you guys have here and wasnt sure if they would work for 7.0. Can someone please direct me to the right place?
I appreciate it ahead of time!
If reliable root methods exist without use of a PC for 7.0 that would be even be AWESOME-RR
I am not sure. I have a T810 on the way. Can you install TWRP via ODIN, and then install root from TWRP?

Thanks to Google's new Safety Net API, magisk is the best option at rooting devices 6.0 and above.
Yes, that's what I am running. I had a bad time getting TWRP installed. I kept getting a weird screen instead of TWRP and I used ODIN 3.12.3 and TWRP 3.1.0-1 and then tried 3.1.1.1 that failed too. I finally ended up using ODIN 3.12.5 and TWRP 3.1.0-1 I also had flash the tablet back to 6.01, and then back to 7.0 as when I tried to use ODIN to reflash directly to 7.0 again but it basically didn't do anything so I had to flash backward 1st. I think the partitions for my stock ROM were somehow messed up, and flashing back to 6.01 and then back up to 7.0 fixed it. Even with that, I had to use the older TWRP 3.1.0-1 I think that was the worst time I ever had getting a device rooted. I set up the stock ROM, and then backed it up using Titanium backup, and also nandroid backup. After that, I blew out the stock rom, and installed AEX and Substratum. I love AEX. Stable, and very fast and I can still play Netflix even with Netflix not supposing to work with rooted devices. Yay Magisk!

Problem updating stock 7.0 to 7.1.1

I just received a notification to upgrade to 7.1.1.
I did the upgrade and when the system reboots it keeps going to twrp menu.
What should I do to overcome this situation?
Thanks in advance.
I have stock 7.0, twrp, root.
Flash 72.03 bootloader should fix it

Thanks a lot. It worked!
Now what should I do with the pending update to 7.1.1;
Why I cannot update?
Sorry for my... newbiness but can someobe explain to me how can I update (IF i can).

OTA as designed doesn't usually work for modified ROMs. If you have OTA zip it can be manually flashed from TWRP. You can use Nexus Root Kit (NRT) to unroot the phone, install latest stock and root again. It will download latest ROM to pc and install from there.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
If you are rooted with Chainfire's supersu, then Chainfire's FlashFire might be able to help you flash the OTA in spite of your rooted state.
If you want to stay stock, and have access to a PC I'd be inclined to use the full OTA factory image. Instructions on the linked page.
If you are ok with going with a non-stock ROM, then I suggest considering Pure Nexus. It's mostly stock but is being actively maintained while Google is stopping updates for the N6.
Thanks for your responses. They are really valuable to me.
I'll go with the ktmon's approach.
Considering that I am stock, have root, TWRP, the logical step is a custom ROM like pure nexus.

Yes, the first several posts in that thread provide all the information you need to flash. You'll be doing a clean flash since you're coming from stock.
