Hi
I have been playing around with my Atrix HD for quite a while now, installing almost all custom roms out there for MB866 (Found Gummy and Carbon to be the best, batakang and holoblur never worked for me).
Restored back to stock using RSD Lite many times (after editing the xml file, no problems)
The bootloader was of course unlocked during "all that".
Now here is the problem. After restoring to stock 4.1.1 (98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US) using RSD Lite, I updated to 98.5.38.MB886.ATT.en.US (small 6.2 MB Update recently released).Worked fine till here.
Then I downgraded to ICS and it also worked fine. What made things worse was when I checked for updates via About Phone--> System Updates and it prompted for an Update 98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US (the same i used to flash via RSD). But when the download finished, the phone is permanently stuck in fastboot mode with the following message:
----------------------------------------------
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (s)
10.9B(*) (sha-2e68372, 2012-11-17 23:33:08)
eMMC Info: Size 8GB
Device is LOCKED. Status Code:0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode: USB Connected
downgraded security version
update gpt_main version failed
Failed to hab check for gpt_backup: 0x35
failed to load GPT
CID Read Failure
Invalid CID Status 0x69
No SP Partition found
Fastboot Reason: Invalid GPT
----------------------------------------------
You can see the phone is locked and RSD Lite doesent work at all giving "phone returmed fail" or " invalid partition error (battery is charged atleast 70%).
Any help in restoring the phone to "something" will be highly appreciated.
One of the problem is that i cannot find stock files for the latest 98.5.38.MB886.ATT.en.US update anywhere
Secondly is there any way to unlock Bootloader in fastboot?

"fastboot oem fb_mode_clear" should get it to stop booting into fastboot mode
The problem is the gpt partition is security locked and one of the fastboot commands thrown is to lock the phone into fastboot mode for every boot until the flashes are done. The command above is the one used to revert the first one (fastboot oem fb_mode_set if you're curious). Your bootloader isn't, or shouldn't I should say, locked again. The RAZR HD does the same thing if you directly flash a fastboot without removing the bad partitions and commands for unlocked phones flashing non-stock fastboots. The bad ones are the gpt partition and the oem fb* commands....there are a lot of guides that explain this and Mythtools (in AHD Developer forums) will do it all for you.

fastboot oem fb_mode_clear doesnt work, i tried it before as well, mythtools also cannt help as device status is locked and if rsd cannt flash it i believe myth also cannt.and the reason i say its locked is because it does not respond to any oem command.
it probably got locked after the ota which failed
if i could find fxz for 98.5.38.MB886.ATT.en.US, it may be restored otherwise is there any way around to unlock bootloder from fastboot??
these are the only two options i can think of amoungst which later is has the least probability.......

There isn't an fxz for that update yet. The one I would be able to make wouldn't include the correct gpt partition because I've flashed the Nextel fxz and none of the other gpt partitions from our stock fxz's will flash on my phone (there's a security lock on that partition). Though I know that between two or three of us here on xda, an fxz could be made with all the correct partitions from the update.
If you're positive that you were unlocked then just flash the Bell or Nextel 4.1.2 fxz's. They're not vulnerable to the heartbleed exploit which is the main reason that AT&T released the 98.5 update to begin with.
Have you tried "fastboot continue"? You might get lucky and the phone will at least boot up. And tried booting to recovery? Boot menu?
You can only unlock the bootloader from a rooted, running phone with ADB enabled. Can't do it in recovery or fastboot mode (unless you have a developer edition).

IIRC, the Nextel (Mex Retail) is the highest version we have unless the new AT&T one supersedes it.
I've only seen this issue one other time over at the RAZR HD forums. With the latest KK OTA they had, his failed and the phone booted to a similar screen you have. Nothing has worked for that guy yet that I'm aware of (haven't checked in about a week now).
Have you tried manually flashing an fxz, not with RSD or Myth (though Myth does flash manually via a script but it skips the gpt partition, IIRC). I'd start with the ATT fxz and if it fails manually then I'd flash the Nextel one...after that I'm out of ideas.

Came here after trying all that
Tried manually flashing but the phone returns FAIL on EVERY command, same with myth tools it executes but nothing really happen in the phone, dont know what went so wrong with the OTA
i am just confused if i should let it be or keep trying until i find a solution
COuld battery charge level be the problem, when it all started it was more than 70 percent and i didnt keep it on for long. it says battery ok but dont know whats the exact battery level as fastboot oem battery-status or voltage level are also restricted
Well, it seems that skeevydude told you all I want to say
Solved: Using Nextel (Mex Retail)
Thanks all for your replies
The device is alive now after restoring to Mexican Retail using RSD (editing the xml file and deleting ONLY the two lines having getvar)
Myth Tools never worked, RSD DID!
BTW the mexican retail is much much better than the ATT version because:
It gets rid of the ATT bloatware
SPecially the att address book
Hotspot is working out of the box
its speedier
android version is upgraded (4.1.2 instead of 4.1.1)
provides an option of manually switching to 2g/3g
and much more
thanks skeevydude, nextel was the last option remaining anyway...........and it automatically fixed the gpr issue

Isn't it already stated somewhere that if you are going to downgrade or change versions, you need to delete those lines anyways?

Yes it is, but thats only for upgrade, if downgrading the gpt line also need to be deleted, as i was not downgrading, only those two were required to be deleted which need to be specifically mentioned to avoid confusion

It is worth a shot for me too!
I have RSDLite and attempted to flash. It gives me error about unknown <getvar>. Deleted those line(s) according to another post I found.
Then everything passes but I am stuck on the Fastboot Flash Mode?
God I will be happy when uncle same gets through with my son so he can help is ole man, lol.
---------- Post added at 06:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:55 PM ----------
PROGRESS! I recalled skeevydude saying to stay alway from front USB ports and moved to back one and I now also have the Mex Retail version working. What a relief.
Now the bearing question is should I move on to another version like carbon or holoblur?
If ok to stay with this version, meaning will NOT get busted out by AT&T by using hotspot?
What do you recommend skeevydude?
Thank you so so so much.

Need 4.1.1..where can I find it? Tyvm
I am ever impatient. So when I saw new factory images up on the Google page, I just had to try them out. I upgraded to LMY47E, then naturally the next day I saw the news about LMY47M. Being that I'm a T-Mobile customer, I want the M version (reported the T-Mobile version) of the new 5.1. Unfortunately, as part of the LMY47E upgrade, the bootloader was moved from 71.05 to 71.08.
Now, trying to flash factory images from LRX22C results in a bootloader mismatch error. I got around this by manually flashing radio, system, boot, etc. images on the phone, and I do in fact now have the 5.01 build showing. However, when I try to sideload the LMY47M build, I'm receiving an error from this line in the updater script:
Code:
#getprop("ro.build.fingerprint") == "google/shamu/shamu:5.0.1/LRX22C/1602158:user/release-keys" ||
abort("Package expects build fingerprint of google/shamu/shamu:5.0.1/LRX22C/1602158:user/release-keys; this device has " + getprop("ro.build.fingerprint") + ".");
It's stating that I have 5.0.2 LRX22G signed with test keys. I don't know how I would have got an engineering build installed from flashing factory firmware from the Google page, but apparently something is confused somewhere along the way. The best I can guess is that perhaps that's some leftover remnants from when I had installed a CM12 nightly build (which I believe is based on 5.0.2).
I don't know what I need to flash with what to get that cleared so I can sideload the LMY47M OTA, and I'm concerned that I may be unable to properly upgrade to additional OTA upgrades if there's a missmatch along the way. There was a confirmed update coming to move from LMY47E to LMY47M per T-Mo support , also confirmed by @askdes) but again, if I have some funky mismatched stuff, unsure if I can upgrade to LMY47E again and still expect to receive the OTA.
I'd love to have someone with more knowledge of these wonderful things weigh in on this. Educated opinions are always welcome, but someone with actual first-hand knowledge would be incredibly helpful to my sanity as well.
Thanks!
Theres nothing you can do to receive the OTA now.
Maybe the M factory image will become available. If so, you'll be able to flash that. Well at least the system and boot image. If the bootloader is newer, that too.
I suppose the other options are that if someone could install TWRP with an unmodified, unrooted M on, they could take a backup of system and boot and give you them to do a Nandroid restore via TWRP... Or maybe someone can take a system dump for you. But you cannot downgrade the bootloader.

Thank you both for the replies. My course at this point seems to be "wait until M is up on the factory images page", which is what I suspected.
I have done a full factory flash of the LRX22C image, manually (since the script fails because of the newer bootloader) and it has still left me with the engineering build stamp showing. Any idea where that information is coming from? The image I used to flash back was the LRX22C for Shamu from developers <dot> google <dot> com/android/nexus/images. I would think that would have wiped the world (exception of the bootloader that doesn't know how to travel back in time; should really introduce that thing to Doc....). I'm not sure if it's because of the bootloader itself, or because of some other thing that just didn't get wiped properly. I flashed the radio, boot, cache, recovery, userdata, and system images initially, then re-flashed recovery to TWRP 2.8 after. Where does ro.build.fingerprint get it's information from? Is that all from the bootloader?

I could be wrong (often am), but I thought several folks tried and succeeded with a factory image flash, by using the following methodology:
1. If your phone is showing OEM Unlock in the developer options and you can boot into recovery, then
2. Boot into android and remove all security
3. Set OEM Unlock and USB debugging
4. Perform several reboots to ensure OEM Unlock is persistent (if not, do not proceed)
5. Perform a factory reset/data wipe in recovery
6. Reflash the 5.01 factory image (or wait for 5.1 M version) using the manual method located here:
[TUTORIAL][GUIDE][HOW TO] Flash Factory Images || Unroot || Relock bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...shamu-t2954008
* Use Method 2 from this tutorial, Method 1 does not work
7. You can relock the bootloader as outlined in the tutorial.
8. At this point if all went as expected, the N6 is factory fresh and eligible for the OTA.
But before you proceed check out some of the other posts to ensure that others have succeeded. So many reports of bricked phones it is hard to tell what caused the problem.
I have used the above method several times, but only reflashing to a newer version.
Hope this helps ....
PS: I missed the mention of CM12! There are so many variables in your situation, I am unsure now that there is a way back. So many of the hard bricked cases involved CM12. Good luck, I hope you come out of this right side up!

I am in the same situation as you are, mine shows my build fingerprint as "google/omni_shamu/shamu:5.0.2/LRX22G/dees_troy020120939:eng/test-keys" I have gone through the same steps as you have and tried to reflash LRX22C. I guess we wait until the factory image!

That is absurd.
Unlocked is unlocked is unlocked.
The only thing that may not be persistent is the flag in the dev settings menu, ENABLE oem unlock.
Once you enable the unlock, you may *immediately* try to unlock it. If the enable setting isn't persistent, then it just won't unlock.
ONCE IT IS UNLOCKED, IT IS UNLOCKED. DON'T EVER LOCK IT AGAIN.
I also received that error when trying to sideload the OTA. The only modification I made was using a custom kernel, but I flashed the stock boot.img before attempting to sideload. So I'm not sure what could have caused the error?
I just read somewhere that we can get the sideload to work if a line in the updater script is deleted or modified. Has anyone else read this?
To sideload an OTA you need a stock recovery. I have been unable to sideload an OTA with a custom recovery installed since 5.0. The Dees Troy (guessing TWRP recovery) in the path is a dead giveaway that it is from the recovery. I don't think it is checking bootloader version when sideloading OTA.

It is. OTA doesn't replace the bootloader. It patches the existing BL with the deltas - I.e. the code that have changed. Obviously the bootloader must be the exact expected version for a patch to work, so it is definitely being checked when you install an OTA, no matter what method you use..
If you patched the BL with an incorrect patch, you could very easily be facing a brick.
Then I'm guessing the people that were able to sideload the OTA with the new bootloader got lucky or are talking a bunch of BS (totally possible). I haven't tried it myself but I know for sure that the stock recovery is needed to sideload the OTA since 5.0 and the error reported earlier by some could be because of the recovery installed.
You definitely need stock recovery, yes
Since I have never updated my bootloader, I'm inclined to think it must be recovery. I was trying to sideload via TWRP.

There are many reasons that people want to have a locked bootloader, such as, among many other reasons, your employer requires it, for example.

No, OTA updates do not verify which bootloader your device is running, and they do NOT patch the bootloader -- they fully replace it.

You need to have stock recovery to apply a stock ota. You could edit the updater-script for any amount of purposes, but that isn't really the point. The people who simply want to "check for updates" and use the standard mechanism to apply it, it will not work with twrp.

Yeah, ok, but we were talking about sideloading the OTA, no? You can sideload an OTA update file (or even flash it directly from your device) using TWRP just by editing one line. But yes, as far as clicking on "check for updates" and having it install that way requires the stock recovery.

You technically can. But then you edit the line, side load the ota via twrp, and immediately flash SuperSU to stop the updated system image from replacing the recovery.. It all seems a little pointless to me. If you're going to modify an ota (or download a modified ota) to side load from custom recovery rather than use a pre-rooted ROM.zip, it seems to add unnecessary steps.
I followed Colton's excellent guide to convert my phone to the non-Prime version, It's unlocked, rooted, xposed, gravitybox, etc. Today, I noticed that the phone is downloading "Wireless Software Update" This is the first update for the non-prime version that I have seen. Can anyone tell us what it's about and contains? I won't be able to apply it without restoring to stock, I presume.
The update is: BLU_R0011UU_V17_GENERIC_6.0_20161115-1444 505.10 MB 2016-11-15 What do we know about his one? Does it have anything to do with VoLTE or is it just a couple of security patches and changes to lock down the phone?

The wireless update app says right in the update description that it an update with some security patches and the long anticipated VoLTE. I believe the prime phones got this a week ago. I am just getting it today on a legitimate non-prime phone.
I just tried installing the update on my non-prime phone and it failed. It put me into android recovery and when verifying current system is says some file has unexpected contents. Not quite sure how to proceed. I am legitimate non-prime (paid the extra $50 for no ads), but I am rooted with xposed and magisk (supposedly systemless)
Boot Loop after update
I have a Prime phone that was flashed to non-prime. I installed the update today and got a boot loop. Not sure what to do from here. I'll try to see if I can flash back to Colton's non-prime image.
I couldn't reflash to Colton's non-prime image. Got the error Error: S_BROM_DOWNLOAD_DA_FAIL when doing the SPFT. Any suggestions?

You have the update so for now here is no more sp flash tool.
You also, in order to have installed Colton rom you had an unlocked bootloader. Not a problem.
The update applied new signatures to the system and recovery. So if you go into fastboot adb check "fastboot getvar all" it should show near end of the output. "Bootloader unlock: yes" and that is correct.
It will also show "secure: yes" this is the result of the signatures being applied.
So to fix it do "fastboot OEM unlock" then read phone screen and pust volume up.
Thanks so much for your response! Yeah I tried doing the fastboot OEM Unlock, and it looks like it unlocks successfully. However, now I'm still in a bootloop and during the loops it will also go into TWRP and display a list of errors. I'll try to get a photo of it. Also "secure: no" when I do getvar all now.
http://i66.tinypic.com/2a0hmyg.jpg
Also after the fastboot oem unlock completes, I do "fastboot reboot" but nothing happens. It just stays in fastboot mode waiting for commands.
Woot! I did the "fastboot format userdata" like you mentioned in COlton's thread and now it got past the white BLU screen.
You are sooooo awesome.... and friendly too I might add.
Okay so it started up the phone just fine. Unfortunately, looks like all the data is wiped. But I'm just glad to get it working again. And hopefully now it has band 12 and VoLTE. Thanks again Mr Mazak!!
I have the Amazon variant of the 16gb Blu R1 HD. I installed TWRP with the Unlock Tool for all versions tutorial (https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/unlock-tool-t3561333) on this forum and also removed ads. I would like to get back to the stock bootloader and image for my phone, to receive OTA updates and have the original experience, I am alright with having the ads back, I would just like my phone the exact same way it came from the factory. I know the updated roms will be ported and etc. I would like it back as the way it came, ads and all. (I'm aware I will not get my warranty back.) I read this tutorial: https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/firmware-amazon-blu-r1-hd-t3428197 but I'm not sure if it will work with TWRP, I'm confused whether or not fastboot works with TWRP installed. I would also like the bootloader to be locked again as well, I'm not sure whether or not flashing stock firmware would do this. If anyone could help explain this to me or point me to a tutorial somewhere it would be appreciated. I searched through the forum for similar entries, I didn't find anything for the R1 HD specifically, and entries for other phones on removing twrp/flashing stock recovery didn't seem to make sense. I apologize if I missed another post concerning this issue. Thanks.

this is not quite a normal request.
any and all changes done to your phone are done at your own risk, no guarantee that the process will be "safe". and no guarantee the end result will be as expected.
I can upload stock system, boot, and recovery images.
download them, unzip the file. put the 3 .img files to the phone.
reboot phone to twrp.
select install, browse to the folder you loaded files to, you should not see the file yet. Select flash image in lower part of screen. Now select system.img, on next screen select system and swipe to confirm.
when done do same for boot.img to boot
then recovery to recovery
when all three are done do a wipe(factory reset)
this should bring you back to prime v6.1
be advised that re-locking the boot loader has potential of bricking the pone so it is not advised to do it.
also on all the early versions there are reports that after ota update with unlocked bootloader it caused a bootloop most times it was recoverable by performing "oem unlock" again.
once booted to v6.1 I suspect there will be proper update notice. but if not here is a list of the official update download links.

Can you tell your experience to restore phone to original condition?
Were you able to avoid bootlop and relock bootloader?
After development ceased I also wanted to restore my phone to original factory state but following restore guides leaves my phone in bootloop. BTW in @rootjunky thread there are all original 6.1 partitions that is if you feel brave and lucky, myself am scared to flash these.
@mrmazak
I think warnings in guides are misleading. Most people are aware of risks to flash modified firmware but they are not aware there is no way to restore phone to original firmware once they modify phone.
No intention to criticize you. Thank you for your effort to keep modified firmwares up to date. Looks like you are only one not giving up

well you can go back to locked but it is tricky. Think of it like this.
unlocking , allows anything you put on phone to try and load.
when you re-lock it only properly signed images are allowed to load.
so you can potentially lock yourself out of allowing phone to boot up, so the warning is more relevant when trying to go back to a locked state.

Sorry guys I have yet to try it out, I don't have a lot of time and am a little nervous to bite the bullet. @kfn, did you follow the guidelines in the above post to restore to original condition or a different set of instructions from somewhere else? Btw any suggestions on how to back up pretty much everything? Sorry Noob here obviously.
I flashed 3 original partitions system, boot, recovery as described by mrmazak then I took OTA update. After OTA update phone was in bootloop. I did not bother with backup because I do not have important data on phone.

Which version update was it?
I can't be certain about the 8.4 or 21 updates, but older ones when that happened you needed to boot into fastboot mode and do oem unlock again.

Did you re-lock the bootloader or was this because of an unlocked bootloader?
It was a quite a while ago, got 3 partitions from ColtonDRG's thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/guide-convert-to-prime-rollback-ota-t3432499
I downloaded from his website, I believe they were 6.1 versions.
At the time 7.4.2 was current firmware, I think phone rebooted few times taking OTA updates. And yes 'fastboot oem unlock' trick worked to get rid off bootloop.
I presume fastboot oem lock might relock bootlader but got scared to try it because of bootloop.

Do you still have the phone? Have you done the OTA updates since then with an unlocked bootloader?
did not try another OTA, put back modified ROM and disabled OTA.
Here post #312 with similar unanswered question about relocking bootloader, it is unclear for me if another OTA would properly relock it without bricking.

@mrmazak, do you know whether or not installing OTA updates would relock the bootloader? Wouldn't it be possible to do fastboot OEM lock and then do OTA updates without the risk of a bootloop? Noob question: does locking the bootloader reset the phone as well? I seem to have read something about this but I can't remember.

The update has not relocked the bootloader before.
Let me clearify a little.
There are three things I know that get changed when doing OEM unlock
1. Unlock status changed to a yes
2. Secure status changed to a no
3. Warranty status changes to no
After an ota #2 above( secure ) changes back to yes
This conflict is what makes the boot loop. As far as I know.
I do not know what it does when put back to lock and you do an ota.
I think each time you change, lock or unlock it needs to be reset the phone.

Wouldn't it change number one to a no, and two to a yes? What is the likelihood of a bootloop out bricking the phone if I re-lock the bootloader or do an OTA with the bootloader relocked? Isn't that the same as doing a normal OTA with a phone that had no changes from factory version, just the warranty status is a no and that's it?

I do not know for sure. And there fore cannot recommend to do it. In the event something goes wrong and bootloader is locked, you cannot use fastboot to flash a repair, there fore MY opinion is the same "DO NOT relock bootloader". If something goes wrong it will be a brick.
Run stock version un modified all you want but if you unlocked I do not think you should relock. My opinion, do as you want.
Hello to eveyone.
I have been searching the forum for a spefic guide to:
Unlock bootloader
install TWRP
flash magisk
To my beloved lg v40 from Sprint that I sucessfully crossflashed to the Korean firmware that has android 10.
Now my phone's information is the following:
Software version: V409NUA30b
Model number: LM-V409NUA (used to be V405UA)
Again, im running android 10. I just want to root it so I can control the processor to get a better performance in gaming (dolphin emulator).
Thanks in advance for any help...

Hi man, thanks for your quick answer. Sorry that I posted my question in the wrong section. I wasn't sure if it had to be posted here or in Q&A, Ur right! I just picked the wrong option.
Yes! My phone has the software version V409NUA30b, it is the latest I could find when I decided to flash it to my phone I was happy with it until I found out that somehow the phone limits the processor's performance when it gets to certain temperature specifically when I use dolphin or cirtra emulators, tha's why i want to root it. But it seems It cannot be done unless you install TWRP, which also needs to have the bootloader unlocked.
I believe I won't get any OTA updates due to crossflashing and also because I am based in the republic of Panama.
I read the thread you are refering to and I saw that the files given to use QFIL are for Oreo and also the author suggested that they are not supposed to work with Pie, even though some people has been able to use them.
That is why I thought that the guide did no apply to my phone.
I am going to follow your advice and post this question in the right place.
If you know anything else, please do not hesitate in letting me know.
thanks again!

So, first, the guide you're referring to does have a few Pie files attached to it, but that's because the author was on Pie when he wrote it. The procedure he describes works for all versions of android, including Q.
So it certainly does apply, just be sure to save off your own abl and laf partitions prior to writing over them or erasing them. And also your boot partition, and for good measure, save ftm, fsg, modem, modemst1 and modemst2, they contain specific imei and s/n info for your specific / individual phone.
Also, there will never again be updates, lg is out of phone business, so forget that
check this thread for some additional info and files you will need. I'd suggest use lgup to go to 30f, that way you'll at least have the last security patch available.
cheers

Thanks again man.
So i was able to update to V4009NUA30f. Thank you for letting me know there was a new version.
I followed the process to unlock the bootloader but somehow I am unable to get into bootloader / fastboot mode. When I flash the v35eng.img to the abl_a it seems to be ok according to Qfill. But my bootloader does not seem to exist in the phone.
I tried to boot the phone into bootloader using adb reboot bootloader but it only restarts the phone.
Do you have an idea what could be wrong?
Thanks!

yes, yer flashing it to the inactive slot. The thing about the v35 eng abl, when you have it flashed (to the correct slot), your phone won't boot. It will only be able to go to fastboot.
In your case, the phone is booting, so you have to be flashing v35 eng abl to the wrong slot. It's the other one that's active.

OK! So I guess we are talking about the abl_b, right!?
Also, I saw in the other link you sent me the twrp+boot image. Once I unlock the bootloader and flash my back up abl file, then I would have to flash it (the twrp+boot) to the abl_b slot again right!?

No no no. You never flash an image to an incorrect partition. Abl partitions get abl images, boot partitions get boot images. Don't mix them up!
