[Q] What are promoter and journalist firmwares

I'm needing to downgrade my firmware on my d5803 to a pre october version in order to do giefroot. I bought the phone unlocked international version so I'm not sure which firmware to put. The firmware thread:

Shows some firmwares are "Generic" and "Promoter". What does this mean? I don't want to flash a firmware with no radio or wrong lte bands or whatever.

Note 5 was never released in Europe, i got mine from Thailand, so will i get Android 6.0 when Thailand get it ? .... how is the region dictated to the device ? by Serial number ?
now that's its rolling out in South Korea, can i VPN to South Korea and get an update ?

You should get an update when the your CSC gets an OTA update. (use phone info from google play to identify your current CSC)
or update manually via Odin when the ROM is available in the forums, search

Just trying to work out what I can and can't download... so lost

I've got a Hauwei p9 Build EVA-L09C346B150
I've found things like the Updater and Firmware Finder but I can't work out what firmware I can download (my carrier is Vodafone Australia and they don't seem to care about updates)
For example I have no idea if I can download firmware with a different "C" number or not. Just want to get onto the latest nougat 7.0 emui 5.0 firmware.
Please help

I have branded p9 eva-l09bc150b140 (emui 4)
use firmware finder from gplay and update with latest and now I am stuck to eva-c900b180 emui 4.1.1 ??
now finder dont have any new firmware...

You will never get updates with your cust i think...u need to change cust to 432 for unbranded European version und the cust for your region

Help: Cannot update firmware with same CUST (C440)?

Good morning all,
I'm trying to update my P9 (EVA-L09 model) to a new software version using the Firmware Finder app.
My phone's current software version is EVA-L09C440B138.
The Firmware Finder app finds several newer software versions for C440; this includes B140, B142, B370 and B380. However, when I check installation availability with IMEI, the app says not available for installation - for any of the software.
Is there any known reason why updating to a new version with the same CUST (C440) is not working?

You can debrand you phone to C432.
