This file magically appeared on root of my SD card. I have no idea how it was generated or where it could have come from.
In preparation of installing CM6.1 I was backing up my SD card and noticed this monster file, I saved a copy to my desktop and am almost tempted to burn a copy as i'm kinda curious what the heck it is. I changed the file extension to txt to possibly view anything that might make sense, but no such luck, all gibberish.
For lack of any other clues i'm wondering if it has anything to do with DSP Manager? I did have a couple of force closes early on with DSP Manager but its been behaving fine for awhile now so i'm clueless.
Anybody have any input on this?
I'm not overly concerned but at the same time if i've got some rogue program running around creating 24 MB img files i'd certainly like to know.

img is a file system format extension. Why would you try and open it as a text file? lololol

Lol, ya went over my head here, are you saying I can flash this to my system folder and have an additional DSP Manager to look at (after nandroid, ha)?
More details please, I'm not adverse to trying this as long as I'm not going to break anything.
Don't try this, as it'll rewrite your system partition with whatever is saved in the IMG. It's definitely not the system, the size isn't nearly big enough.

Yeah, it was a joke... never flash a file you don't know the contents of.

I like my system partition just the way it is thanks. But yeah probably wouldn't have flashed anything until it made more sense. Now it makes sense.

Hey guys,
Got both these partitions now all I need is a dd image of the system partition from stock d3 so I can put in the SBF.
Please try this and let me know if it works:
dd if=/dev/block/system of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img

Thats a link to the CRC of the test ROM, someone pointed that out to me earlier, thanks though. I'm on to looking for a dd of the system image, final thing I'm missing. All I have found so far are zips of the files which isn't what I'm looking for.
I'll let you know when the SBF is ready, more testers the better.

I don't know what the system partition is, but I think this will work:
dd if=/dev/block/system of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img

Ok, does it contain any personal info? Also, i modified sytemui.apk, and frameworkres.apk to look like gb theme. Is that a problem? If so, maybe someonelse should upload theirs.

I would prefer a stock one so people can go back to stock, but no the system partition doesn't contain any personal info at all, its designed to be run read-only which is why you need root to mount it rw to edit it
C'mon guys someone must have a dd of stock system partition

It seems to me that you have problem either of your root or correct permission of bootanimation you try to install. What happened when you try to install it?

You used file explorer to check out your /system/media folder right? which one? But if you delete something there it not supposed to be there if you have correct rw permission there. I first think that it could be problem with bootanimation you try to install but if you can't delete something there for good I guess first look at your permission to write that folder.

I tried many and different bootanimations not just one and with different ways. I'm rooted and I use the root browser and the permissions are right. But the when I delete the original bootanimation or overwrite it after entering the media file it is there. (when I tried with recovery I got an error)

Basically no and yes. I moved the audio folder it moved successful but when I got back it was both at the moved and original location.
It's like the system generates the missing files by it self

I was suggesting factory reset.. Anyway have you tried another root file manager? (i use root explorer and everything works here, but you should try several apps)

Root again. Use "Easy Root Tool". If it stuck cleaning part just run it again and you should be good.
I was trying to change Xperia S bootanimation last year. Ending up to find that problem is much deeper then basic root and root explorer.
Didn't find the way how to apply custom one.
As I remember is somehow connected with bootloader or kernel

Don't know about Xperia S but with Z1 I can change bootanimation. I use X-plore by Lonely Cat Games with r/w rights and have zero problems.
I would suggest you do not have root.
Check if you have killed the ric.
Goto sys/kernel/security/Sony_ric and see if the file called enable says 0 or 1. Also check it just after a reboot.
If it's a 1 you will lose write permissions to the system partition after a reboot, which explains the symptoms you are talking about.
Changing the boot animation had nothing to do with kernel or bootloader, you just have to change the bootamimation.zip in system /media

Hey all,
Today is not my day...just not paying attention. I accidentally replaced my build.prop file with a modified version but forgot to change the permissions so now I am boot looping. I can still access TWRP, so I was curious if there is any way to get a new build.prop file onto the phone so I do not have to do a full wipe. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, if its possible to flash onto the phone, does anyone have the build.prop file I can use? Thanks in advance.
I guess I can also access the bootloader for fastboot, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

You can either use mfastboot to flash the entire system. IMG for the rom you are using (easiest). Or use adb from within recovery to fix permissions on the build.prop....
Good luck :good:
Edit: re flashing just system will not affect you data. Only any modifications made to /system. For instance: if you are using xposed, it will need to be reinstalled. All other apps will be unaffected.

Your idea spurred me to use a method I used the other day, from this thread:

Worked great and saved all data, thank you!
So I have been rooting phones for years. I have taken a stab at rooting the S8 tab. I used many Root Explorers. I cannot delete system files or modify them. I paid for Root Explorer since im familiar with that app. Still no luck. Any idea what I can do? Thanks for your help in advance.

Have you tried using Magisk?? Or using Traditional Root? And for what reason do you want to Delete System files, If you do by mistake delete some Critical System files, device can be in fatal situation to restore again..

Yes, im currently rooted. I tried replacing the splash screen in System/media I have tried about 5 different root explorers and gave root permission to all of them. I am very limited with this root.

Since Android 11+ Google has been enforcing RO partitions only. So, what that basically means is that your partitions are only RO = Read Only, which means even if you have ROOT access there is no way of deleting anything from those partitions.
In order to be able to delete files from Partitions like System/Vendor/Product, etc... You would need to modify them by flashing certain scripts that repack/modify all the partitions and make them RW instead of RO. RW = Read/Write permission, so that means you would be able to delete files from those partitions.
There are certain scripts/mods floating around XDA that you could try to flash and make partitions RW but it's not guaranteed it would work especially if you're on the A13 currently since you would require TWRP to flash those scripts/mods and access to internal storage (You would need to force disable encryption so you can always access the storage inside TWRP.
I run a Magisk-less root on one device. I use a custom recovery to mount system and vendor r/w.
One thing that I learned is that (at least on mine) they were using FEC which is error correction.
I'd write a file and the changes would not be visible! They would be "corrected".
If you are root, look at the last 4096 bytes of the system or vendor partition.
If you see FECFECFE than that's what you have.
I'm only running Android 10 and I don't have a super partition.
(Note that to brute force modify system or vendor you need to modify your dtb, your fstab, maybe vbmeta.)
Thank you everyone for the help. Im glad I have some clarification now.
