Yesterday I was listening to a podcast through my M7's speakers and the audio cut off suddenly - as if I had tapped "Pause". Since then I have been unable to get any audio out of the phone speakers. Bluetooth audio seems fine. At first I thought that headset-jack audio was gone, but now it is just very low volume (maybe it was low all along, or maybe it was gone at first and is now working but quiet after a few Nandroid restores).
Here are the things I have tried:
Calling the phone to get ringtone
- (vibrates but no ring)
Restarting
- (no change)
Restoring Nandroid backups from 2 weeks and 2 months ago, with same ROM
- (no change)
Restoring Nandroid from over a year ago, before I had installed any custom ROM:
-Touchscreen doesn't work so can't use the phone (?!?)
-Speakers still seem broken - receiving call causes vibrate but no ringtone
-Had to ADB into the phone to reboot to recovery
Current ROM: CRDroid/CM11
I can't even guess at what would have caused this - I was doing nothing unusual or stressful with the phone. It was sitting on a table playing the podcast & the sound just stopped - pretty sure there was no "Pop" or other sound. As far as I know both speakers were working fine before yesterday, but since I mostly listen to spoken word I guess it's possible that I haven't noticed one of them being out.
Oh yeah, I found and tried dialing the phone diagnostic code (something like *#*#3424*#*#) but it did not work - I'm guessing it just isn't supported in the CrDroid ROM.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Is there anything I can do to test or determine whether this is a software or hardware problem? It seems bizarre that both speakers would just stop working, but what do I know?
thanks in advance for any assistance...

Thanks for the reply - I forgot to mention that I had seen that suggestion and have already confirmed that my Chrome is already updated to version 40.0.2214.109, so I don't think that's it, but if there's any way it could still be the problem, let me know - I guess I could uninstall/reinstall chrome but I don't have any reason to think that would help.
I'm now getting *some* audio under peculiar circumstances, so clearly both speakers are not completely dead or disconnected, and possibly it's software rather than hardware - I'll test a little more before posting the details...

As hinted in that last post, I'm now seeing/hearing some very bizarre behavior - I can now get audio out of certain apps under certain conditions, I think only out of the top speaker. Here are the convoluted conditions:
(This is the only reliable thing that happens) If I play a voicemail message in the "Youmail" app, it works (although only out of the top speaker).
*AFTER* I play a message in Youmail, I can get a video on Facebook or VLC or a song in Google Music to produce audio, BUT if I pause the Facebook video and restart it the audio is gone again, and none of the other apps will produce audio again UNTIL I go back to Youmail and play another few seconds of a message. Pausing/restarting VLC does not kill the audio. Rebooting the phone also leaves me in a non-audio state, UNTIL I open Youmail and play a few seconds. "Smart Audiobook Player" cannot produce audio under any circumstance, and I cannot get the phone to ring. I haven't played with other apps yet.
What the??
I've been thinking about flashing a new ROM anyway, but I'm skeptical that that will do any good since my attempted Nandroid restores haven't helped.
Any ideas?
(of course let me know if you need more info to try to diagnose or if there's some other hoop I could jump through to try to see what's happening)
[edit a few minutes later] I can get music to play in Mediamonkey, but as with the Facebook video, if I pause and restart the audio is gone again and other apps (except Youmail) do not produce audio.
I went ahead and flashed a new ROM ("MaximusHD | 52.0.0 | Android 5.0.2 | Sense 6.0") but that did not fix the problem.
I can now run the HTC Fuction Test Program, and that results in some top-speaker audio tones on the first audio test, but no ringing or other audio. I haven't restored the Youmail app to see if I can get the same weird behavior I had before.
So it is still clearly true that I can get very limited audio out of the top speaker but generally audio is dead.
Any suggestions of what to try next?

Arrgghhh - I'm afraid you're right but I really want you not to be. Any other ideas/solutions?
To be more clear, now when I run the "HTC Function Test" and select "Audio Test", the first test it runs ("Receiver Test") seems to work - it plays several distinct tones followed by an ascending sliding tone (out of the top speaker only). Then it runs "Test Both Speakers", which fails completely (no audio whatsoever).
I am on stock 5.0 ROM of ZR, Rooted n dual-recovery installed,
I am facing weird issue, whenever i gets call then i can hear ringtone, even alarm, also WhatsApp notifications but music or YouTube or any video does not give me sound, it only works on earphones,
even whenever i gets calls i can either speak on loudspeaker or with earphones connected, direct call is impossible for me
To figure this out i also tried factory reset but it didn't helped me, i also thought its hardware problem but sometimes EG. 1 out of 7 days music, calls, videos sound works WITHOUT earphones, so i am unable to figure out where is the problem ?
I strongly feels its earphones 3.5mm jack which is detecting it as i am already connected to earphones though i didn't..
So any way to solve it ? i tried playing with that jack also but no success,
Another problem is before flashing i changed my build prop to one samsung s6 device for some work purpose with buildprop editor, but even after factory reset i can see it didn't changed to stock build prop of sony zr device, why it happened & how to solve it also,
Please Help,
Thanks in Advance .
reboot phone, plzz
You must find a stock build prop and insert in to your system using root explorer or similar.. I know the S6 build-prop you are talking about and its meant for S6, which have other bits than ZR.. Don't mess with the build prop unless there are bits specific to ZR bro.. You should be ok once the build prop has been changed
i also have this problem, it looks like headphone jack problem, i also tried disassembling and removing headphone jack assembly but problem still exists in any roms above android 4.3 ( 4.1 and 4.3 and cm varient of same works perfectly. ( btw disassembling resulted in 2 times broken screen and useless headphone jack :crying: )
problem is phone thinks something is still in that whole :silly: in os above 4.3 , sony messed with software ( because if jack is faulty then it shouldn't work in older os too, and it should have worked when i ran phone without jack assembly )
your best bet is either use 4.3 or lower version or use "hf button widget" ( 70KB app ) to force audio through speaker. :highfive:
though proximity may not work.
I am seeing lots of of ZR user raising this this issue and unfortunately I have it too.
Your workaround is that install SoundAbout app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix&hl=en for you to enable the sound through speaker.
I have also Xperia ZR C5502 and facing this type of problem I noticed phone notification show sometimes headset connected but in really it isn't connected so incoming calls sound doesn't hearing from phones speaker.I must turn on loud speaker to hear phone's sound.Sorry for bad English.
No sound in loudspeaker
Suddenly the loudspeaker in my Nokia 8 (in Android 9) has stopped working. There is no ringtone playing when receiving a call, or sound when playing media.
The internal speaker is working, and I do not remember anything happening to the phone in the last hours.
The volume up key raises the slider for the sound, I do not see any indicator of no volume anyplace.
I have tried rebooting, but not help.

For more information: the speaker works, if I reroute the sound from the headphones to the speaker with an app lie Earphones mode off.
And if I blow strongly in the headphones jack while playing music the speaker works.

Did you manage to resolve this? I've exactly the same issue. Bottom speaker suddenly stopped working, when I blow air into the speaker I can hear sound.
Do you have warranty? This device is pretty much dead so if you have warranty you can try getting it repaired
No, I couldn't resolve the issue. If I redirect the sound from the headphones to the loudspeaker using some utilities, I got sound, but not ringing from calls.

If anyone interested, I got mine back from warranty repair. They replaced whole loudspeaker module - part number S0S0923M000. Its working fine again

Nice. OP could try this as well.
My phone had decreased the sound of the speakers and it is really so noticible and it just happened today. Is there any solution?
Weirdly, I noticed this as well. Temporarily I installed volume booster from play store but I noticed there's very little volume from top speaker

Same here. And it is weird as the speaker still has good quality which means that it is not affected.
mine as well i just noticed it after latest update
Mine is not a new thing I've noticed.
It's not permanently low. It's like I'll watch a video and the usb c port speaker is decently loud with a full sound and then about 5 mins in it fades to quiet and tinny. The front firing speaker seems unaffected.
Playing the video from the beginning doesn't change anything so it doesn't seem app specific. This has happened since day 1 but I don't listed to much out loud these days

This change in volume is caused by Dolby Atmos. Whenever this happens when you're watching a video, you should try going to the dolby atmos settings, switching to a different mode (and then back if you want), and play the video again. The software automatically EQ's based on what you're listening to in a really dumb way, and the method I just described will let it forget and reset for a little while. I'm currently looking at a method to remove Dolby Atmos entirely in favor for an actually decent EQ.
Edit after 45 minutes:
I've removed Dolby! I crossed my fingers and removed it via adb.
The command I used in ADB was:
Code:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 'com.huawei.imedia.dolby'
I had a little switch in my notification drawer which immediately was gone. In the settings there is no sight of the software either, and my phone speaker finally sounds fine! I hope this will work for you all too.

Yep, it works. The only thing that alters the audio now is if you plug your phone in, but that's not too bothering for me personally. You could try disabling it too, once you're shelled into your phone just type "pm help" and there should be a long list of commands you can apply.
Thanks for the tip! I bought a second hand cellphone, and I thought it was defective. I used the debloat software for huawei phones, and now it sounds how it should be. I just had to install an eq from playstore to use when using earbuds, because I felt it was sounding different. Now everything´s fine!!!
Seems it has re-activated itself on my phone, switch is still gone. I'll do a reset this afternoon to check the sound difference, but this fix seemed to be temporary for some reason...

Yeah, read about it on a debloat post on P30 Pro forum, system apps aren't full removed through adb, it just disables for the current user (wich is user0/ default main user), without it, the uninstall command won't work, to remove completely it needs root acess, wich unfortunately we can't get, but I'm not sure if they are allowed to reinstall itself, unless a factory reset is made.
Edit: Guess what, uninstalling Dolby Atmos seems to dont fix the issue at all, but Dolby is still gone, maybe it has something to do with the system keeping some of its data in the storage, or this issue has something to do with some other system service. I'm installing dolby again and try to look for something else, seems to have nothing to do with dolby, since when using dolby with earphones it don't do that.

Will attempt to disable it completely later
Hi. I recently updated my Redmi note 10 pro to MIUI 13.0.1 and have noticed my phone trips off suddenly whenever a loud sound plays on my phone speakers. I can play any sound, movie or music, as long as it's on low volume. I can play movies with low sound output on highest volume without problem, bot once a loud sound comes through the speakers, the phone goes off instantly. Bluetooth and wired headphones work flawlessly. I don't know if the update is the problem, but the problem started after the update. What could be the problem?
I noticed a very distorted sound, like a bursted speaker from the top speaker. This makes it look like a hardware problem, but I need to know if anybody has faced similar problem.
This problem also appears on my device, when playing a song at a loud volume it turns off
apakah karena pembaruan miui atau perangkat keras redmi note 10 pro berkualitas buruk?
