Flashing different country firmware on N950FD - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi.
So I just bought a N950FD - at a very good price - but it's from the UAE (XSG). I live in Canada and from the Amazon reviews I've seen, I shouldn't have problems with SIM activation and what not. But before I go and open the box, I want to know if it's possible to flash another firmware on it, most probably UK version? Seems like the UAE versions are lagging behind in updates and I really don't want any of the clutter from that region. I know I can't flash a Canadian firmware obviously, but I'm weary of doing it with a EU one. UK seems like a good choice...
So, is this possible with Odin and is it really worth it?
Thanks

We always could on exynos based devices.
Ive had a few over the years the latest of which was an S8 plus and Note FE (skipped the note 8) as long as it was an F or FD firmware(same firmware btw) i could flash firmware via odin from any other country.
Unless something has changed lately no reason you still cant do so.
Now with the Note 8 this may have OEM unlock implications (read up if you dont know what i mean). As in if you have it out of the box and flash you may lose it then get Stuck in jail for 7 days or more.

I've read some stuff about this but I can't seem to make out what the issue is; OEM unlock disappears, different FW have different options..? In any case I doubt I'll be flashing custom ROMs just yet so this won't interfere for now.
Thanks for the info.

Yes thats it exactly.
Some devices have it right out of the box others do not and flashing in odin resets the 6 day counter.
Some have had to wait alot longer than 7 days.

That's effed up... Ok I'll try it then. Worst case I'll try to return the phone if it fails. But Amazon are starting to ask questions, I've returned two already because I'm an idiot and getting wrong models

Well turns out the phone I bought was from Ecuador, even if the box said UAE, AND it doesn't even register my SIM at all... so I'm officially done with Duos phones. Nothing but problems... I am doomed to carry two cell phones I guess

I assume you tried editing the APN settings for your carrier?
Tried switching the SIM cards from slot 1 to slot 2 or vise versa?
Does the phone support your carrier frequencies?
Maybe you need a new SIM card from your carrier?

I have an N950FD with XSG (UAE). Worked great right out of the box with my Bell SIM card. No bloat, no problems. I still haven't even tried rooting but OEM Unlock toggle has been there from day 1 for me. I personally don't see the need to start flashing other fw since the stock one works well.

Ok wow I'm ashamed to say I sort of forgot to do that... I'll blame it on being super late I did manage to get some connectivity that way, thanks. However...

How's your LTE speeds? I can't seem to get more than 10 Mbps where my S7 gets a steady 50+ Mbps, just side by side... I'm thinking I might be missing one or two high speed frequencies here. Also, mine auto-switched to Ecuador somehow. I've posted on Sammobile as well and there I was told XSG was part of a mega CSC and that inserting your sim would auto-select the best one. Did yours stay on XSG?

Mine has been good... a bit of variance but overall it tops out at 130Mbps down, 15Mbps up. Way faster than my Note 4 with the same provider and in the same city (Bell, Ottawa). Not sure if I could get higher speeds with a N950W, but seems about right for me. Another user from Toronto posted speeds of 300Mbps though!

150?!? Holy bananas! I'm in Ottawa too and with Rogers I'm lucky to get 50-55... but I managed to get it working quasi-decent now by changing protocols to IPV6. I get 40ish, which is probably similar to what my S7 got at least. Did you ever find a way to get either VoLTE or Samsung Pay to work?

I know, right? That was my reaction too, lol. Here's a screenshot from a recent test...like I said it varies sometimes (say 40-70Mbps in some areas downtown), but speeds of 130Mbps or more are not uncommon based on my tests so far. My bank doesn't yet work with Samsung Pay so I haven't tried it. Don't use volte either, sorry. I heard Rogers needs to whitelist the phone for some services/features (I forget which ones now), but they apparently refuse to do it for non-Rogers devices from what I've read.

That's pretty rad! I don't really need VoLTE and SamPay to be honest, but I would have liked playing with them. Now one last question about your CSC: what's the complete code? XSG/XSG/XSG? Because mine flips to CHO/CHO/XSG no matter what I do, and I don't have OEM unlock, SamPay, etc. and I'm desperately trying to get my head around it all...

Interesting... yes mine stayed XSG/XSG/XSG. I haven't messed around with CSCs much, but I remember reading a few posts here outlining how to change it. Maybe try searching the oem unlock thread or some of the csc-related threads for the specific steps to follow.

Hi, i have a N950FD, but go it it in Colombia. and im on Android 7.1.1 N950FXXU3BRA8 N950FOXM2BRA1, same version as Panama CSC. but 2 days ago Panama got Oreo, and i wonder if since both countries shared the same CSC on Nougat, can i use the Oreo from Panama and install it via Odin on my phone? would i loose any feature? Trip Knox? Secure Folder? etc?

Flashing that in odin is fine, wont trip knox or cause any issues.
Hard to say about features as i dont know much about the difference in what each country has there but likely it would be fine.

Sadly for Koreans, the version of the Note sold over there, well, frankly sucks. (No offence...) It's a prime example of why NO ONE, should EVER buy a carrier locked/subsidized device, even though it's cheaper up front; your **** get's locked down, features don't work, and not everything is what you'd expect as a customer. Not to mention, bye-bye unlimited data...
Anyway, getting back on topic. The Korean Note, as I understand it, uses a Qualcomm chipset, so possibly try using root methods for another device with a similar chipset? Maybe you could try the rooting method for an AT&T LTE Galaxy S2 (Skyrocket)?
Good luck!
P.S. In the future, boycott carrier subsidized devices. Buy unlocked. Buying subsidized devices just gives carriers more power over consumer choices, and thus more power to regulate what people can/can't buy, and what they can/can't do with their devices.
I am in exactly the same situation and havent had any luck with rooting mine either, any help is appreciated.
yes i wish i had not impulse bought this device and looked into it a bit more and got the n7000 instead
You can try, a method t hav mentioned in How to Root + CWM in my signature
In 16 nov edit section of that post i hav edited new method yesterday call unlockroot.exe, you may try it, i hav read it can root SHV 110, 120S, 120L, but am not sure about your device.
Gave that one a shot sadly no luck

I said "locked/subsidized."
If you bought your device to work with a particular carrier over there, and/or received it at a discounted price as part of an agreement with your carrier, or if it is in any way carrier branded, then it is subsidized, whether locked or not.

Oh I see.
Well I did in fact get a Note that is branded. I really only worried about it being unlocked.
In your opinion, what would be the best way to find out?
The seller at the shop didnt seem to know much about that and language was also an issue

Easiest way to tell is to see if the SIM card from a different carrier works.

Does anyone have any links or info on the Korean sites that possibly show the Korean model being rooted?
Its hard to believe the Korean version isnt able to be rooted yet by someone considering the amount of Notes sold in Korea as well as it being one the top leading computer using countries
Anyone out there with any root info for korean note?????? No root sucks
make it work on 3g simcard
is there anyway to make this model work on 3g network? 4g blows and no unlimited data.
Shouldnt I be able to root the Korean Note, IfF i download the Korean Note driver from the Korean webpage and use the most up to date SuperOneClick version????
Hi... same problem here... I am also looking forward to root my korean galaxy note. And as far as I know... it is NOT possible right now. So ... let`s just have a cup of tea and wait...
yeah guess we will need to wait
For those of us living in Korea, the most reliable way to root the Samsung family of devices is to flash a custom kernel that allows root. The boot-loader is not locked so it is only a matter of finding a trusted source.
That being said, Tegrak has been very reliable since support from the original Galaxy S thru SII and now international version of the note. I've read his site (in Korean) and he has a placeholder for the Korean versions of the note (SHV-E160S, SHV-E160K, SHV-E160L). The page says that he needs someone to send him a copy of the original firmware so that he can modify it with his additions prior to posting it for general download.
I don't have a note currently (although I am now considering one). If anyone would like to get this rolling, please contact him at [email protected]. He speaks fluent Korean & English so communication shouldn't be an issue. I know he supports over a dozen phone models currently. He posts updated kernels every time a supported model receives a firmware update. I don't imagine he owns over a dozen phones so I have to assume [we] help him by submitting source firmware that he mods and publishes.
---EDIT---
Tegrak just posted kernels for all 3 Korean Galaxy Note versions today here.
Find your version, download follow installation instructions. Download and install Tegrak Kernel (free / donate) and root your device. Kernel also has other features that voodoo sound support (Voodoo Control: free / donate) and overclock support (Tegrak Overclock: free / donate).
*** I recommend downloading free version first. Ensure it operates for you, then SUPPORT TEGRAK by BUYING THE DONATE VERSION. Gotta keep our developer pals hooked up on their supply of coke-zero!
Thanks Wapu!!!!!!!! Has anyone successfully tried it??
Thanks thT method worled perfectly. Is voodoo sound supposed to work? I couldnt get that to work.

AT&T VS. Unlocked

I am trying to figure out if I should buy the GS6 from AT&T or buy a factory unlocked phone from GSM Nation: http://www.gsmnation.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-unlocked.html or Expansys: http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-smartphone-unlocked-32gb-black-275005/
From what I've been reading if I buy a carrier unlocked S6 I will for sure lose out on VOLTE and HDvoice but I dont get those things now with my Nexus 5 so I dont think I will miss them. The question on I have is am I missing anything? Is there anything else I need to take into consideration when buying unlocked vs at&t branded? Yes, I'm aware it will cost a little more and I wont get support from AT&T if something goes wrong with it but is there anything else I should know?
Well since the modem is probably the same across most North American / European / Australia varients hopefully the unlocked version is just packed with LTE bands!
It makes sense to buy it if you're buying it outright and your countries bands are included... Does anyone know the Bands / model name for the Unlocked ver?

For what its worth, I'm buying the 32GB Verizon S6 that is already unlocked for $599. Its cheaper than the AT&T. I won't get LTE if I stick with Cricket (which use AT&T towers) but thats fine. HSPA is fine and I can switch to Verizon prepaid if I so desire. Just an option I would throw out there.

@alnova1 i thought about getting the verizon one too but my whole reason for not buying the att one is to avoid having to wait for updates and to get around all the carrier bloatware. If I get the verizon one I will miss out on LTE and I will have to wait for updates. Its a lose lose situation.

yeah the unlocked one they sell at gsm nation will work on att.
Yeah but AT&T = Locked bootloader so no rooting etc. Have fun with that.
So I've been spoiled by the nexus 4/5 and haven't really paid attention to Samsung phones... If I got an S6 w/ an unlocked bootloader and rooted, would I still be able to use Samsung Pay (I've heard of something called Knox, i guess would rooting cause it to be tripped?)

depending on the root method, the current root requires the unlock bl and will trip knox, which means you lose functionality of any features associated with knox...reason it trips knox is the way the SU binary is pushed to the phone is by temporarily injecting a recovery based on stock but with custom code if i recall.. you can google CF Auto to see how it works in detail.
Well crap. I was hoping one device would work across all carriers, like the Nexus 6 and iPhone 6 does. Oh well.
Do we know if the AT&T version is crippled in any way? Possible pain points:
Wireless charging limited to PMA only (AT&T has a history of pushing PMA at the expense of Qi)
Unremovable AT&T bloatware (AT&T Navigator, AT&T Family Map, AT&T Smart WiFi, etc)
Removal of certain software features (On my LG G3, it's missing a few minor features like Quick Tips for no discernable reason)
Locked bootloader (I actually assume this one is a given)
Of course we know it'll get slower software updates and still has the ugly AT&T logo on the back.

well the s6 is suppose to include support for both PMA and Qi, as far as the bloat, if its like the nexus lp release those bloatware apps are sim related and can be removed as they don't reside on the /system as for the locked BL i think everyone has pretty much assumed that it will be shipped locked.

I have no idea about the pma or qi wireless charging. I dont think they would mess with it but it wouldn't surprise me.
I assume we'll have to root to get rid of all the bloat.
I hope they dont remove features but as we know, they got rid of download booster on the GS5 so again, this wouldn't surprise me.
I too assume the boot loader will be locked but so was the GS5 and there are ways around it.
good questions, a lot to think about. I almost wanna just say ahhh forget it and just the att branded one to make sure I get HD Voice and VoLte but then every time I look at my wifes GS5 on AT&T and see that shes still got Kitkat I so NOPE!!!
Locked bootloader?
Shoot i guess i have been spoiled by the nexus :/ I jumped on the hype and bought a s6 (preordered really) because my n5 was getting old and the metal band and the curved display. Still kindof frightened of how it would look when watching a movie, bad experience with gamma curve on note 1 for the att note. I look forward to flash cm 12.1 on the edge and develop some apps or xposed modules to use that sexy edge
Yes.
I have my first ever factory unlocked phone and first Samsung phone ever
Galaxy Alpha 850M on MetroPCS/Tmobile Network.
It is a sleek phone, great Audio, no lag and has ALL the Bands for Tmobile( even 1700 UMTS not listed in it's specs).
BUT- the phone is NOT software optimized for Metro/Tmobile so no
VoLTE- which we have had on Metro since 2012 .
So make a call and instantly you lose LTE and drop to 3G and sometimes the
" hand off " back to LTE after the call takes a minute or so...
Sometimes Data is interrupted temporarily when on Internet and I get a call though I have voice and Data almost all the time.
These are not things I was warned about on Articles about BYOD.
I have no problems with Texts , MMS, Multiple Email Accounts and different Notifications for them all though- that is very good-often people have some problems , glitches with unlocked phones.
Because VoLTE is becoming more common it may eventually become more universal but we are not there yet so even an advanced phone like Alpha and probably S6 needs specific Carrier Software to enable the VoLTE for the specific Carrier.
So you won't stay on LTE during Calls .
Not sure if the Band switching wastes energy or not- the Battery is going to be the Achilles Heel on S6 IMO for heavy users- .
So that's the problem IMO with Factory Unlocked Phones- I also suspect the Software Optimized and precisely Band Optimized Carrier Devices are faster with better reception generally than similar Model Factory Unlocked Devices but no proof and it's probably complicated....lol.
I'm also on the fence about getting an AT&T Version of the S6 or not. Having a locked bootloader could be a deal breaker and from the last 2 Galaxy Units they had it should be locked too. Until someone gets a unit and lets us know, we'll be in limbo until then. I currently have a AT&T HTC M8, unlocked, s-off, the works, and i can pretty much do anything to this phone. I do keep my phone close to stock, but all the bloat removed and option to flash any type of ROM is a big plus.
Hopefully we can get a definitive answer on the Bootloader asap.

So I have discovered at least 4 companies we can buy an unlocked S6 from in the US. Handtec, clove, expansys-usa, and gsmnation.
I ended up placing a pre-order from handtec.co.uk. Total came to $737 including shipping for a regular S6 32GB. Don't forget to add / request the Samsung activation / region unlock if you order from handtec or clove. Expansys and gsmnation should handle that for you even if you don't request it I think.
I just can't deal with the AT&T version. So glad my device will have no carrier bloat and get updates much sooner than the AT&T version.

Thanks for more options! I've been corresponding with the fine folks at GSMNation, and they don't seem to be understanding what I'm asking.
I'm curious about what model I will be getting. Will it be the Vodaphone version? I want to know so I can determine how long I'll be waiting for updates. T-Mo wasn't the worst, and I have been able to do a lot with it.
Last year I brought my T-Mobile S5 to AT&T...I'm wondering if I can just go buy one at T-Mobile, but activate it on AT&T. Unlocking shouldn't be an issue. Whatever I do, I must be able to root that beast!

Which AT&T bands does the phone support?

which galaxy note 5 to buy to work on At&t?

I've been looking online to buy a galaxy note 5 to work on At&t, I don't want to buy an At&t model because it can't be root and the Tmobile one needs to be activate it for at least 40 days with their service in order to unlock it.... (kinda lame), so , I'm between buying these 2 models SM-N920W8 or SM-N920C ?
which one would you guys recomend I heard some guy bought the International and his signal was not a great as the At&t version? any feedback, recomendation or advice?
Thanks for your advice
Jesse
I ordered the 920i for At&t. Getting it Friday.
One reason I picked that was that there is already a root, custom kernel and rom 4 it.?
What can I say I'm a flashaholic.
The other reason was at the time the choice was the 920i , 9208, 920T.
The 920T was missing one of the LTE Bands.
The 9208 is a dual sim and some of the roms are breaking the 2nd sim functionality
Hope this helps.
As to the signal not being as good as the AT&T branded phones there is no way around it. AT&T gives cell tower priority to their devices.
I was dead against getting an AT&T one myself. I thought about it for a long time and just got one anyway. I havent bothered to root or flash in a long time and after playing with one for a day, it was worth it in the end. You can remove 90% of the crap on it and replace it with a new launcher. It is much better than I feared, and you get perfect signal and support. I kept my OPO for my flashing cravings too.
From my understanding, I could be wrong, I think the N920i model is fully compatible with all of AT&T bands, LTE in particular.
I just purchased it today and will be getting it in a few days, so I will be able to confirm then.
Before I made the purchase, I searched multiple websites, compared the bands and every source seems to indicate that it is fully compatible with AT&T.
Hope that helps.
Here is a screenshot from one of the sites...
I'm considering getting this as well for AT&T.
My 920I has been flawless on att since I got it 3 weeks ago.

I ordered mine from Amazon on Friday morning and they literally had it on my front porch by Saturday afternoon - the next day!
I wasn't expecting that (the initial delivery estimate was a few days later being that I made the order on a Friday morning) and I was pleasantly surprised. I did purchase one that was available with Prime Shipping. So that could be why.
I've been playing with it nonstop since I got it and it's great so far.
I was really worried about battery life due to some of the forum posts on xda but I'm very pleased so far.
It's been off the charger for 7 hours, I've been using it pretty much nonstop. I'm at 30% battery left and have a screen on time of almost 5 hours!

I've had my 920i for two weeks with no issues. I have the unlimited plan and been talking, texting and tethering all at the same time. I purchased my gold phone off eBay.
I'm very pleased. I'm not rooted yet and I've been able to get rid of all the bloat wear. I've used over 25gb this billing period.

Sadly my experience was not good.
I ordered the 920i from Amazon and it came yesterday. Opened package and it was a 920s. It's on it's way back today?.
Now I can't find the 64gb Gold 920i and really don't want to order again from a supplier in Hong Kong!
O well still waiting........

That sucks, the 64 GB version is almost impossible to find at a reasonable price.
They had one for $1100 on Amazon but I'm not willing to pay $350+ for an extra 32 GB.
I'm acclimating to the 32 GB version as we speak. It's not that bad actually.
Just a few small compromises.
Just check some of the other sellers on Amazon. I lucked out and found one with Amazon Prime Shipping from a US seller and it was delivered in one day.
I would suggest trying to find a US seller that has the phone. If anything, contact them directly beforehand and make sure they have it and estimated shipping.
Good luck!

I'm on AT&T and it's working flawlessly using the Nextgenphone APN
My speeds have been excellent!
Yea I already had a nanosim, I switch phones a lot so I keep a nanosim and use an adapter if I need microsim.
I wanted to wait for 64 GB gold/silver as well but I just didn't feel like waiting any longer, seems like it was taking forever.
They had a few sellers on Amazon selling the 32 GB model for $720.
The one I bought was $750 with Prime Shipping, maybe that's why I got it the next day.

Sorry couldn't answer earlier, crazy busy day.
Got an email from the supplier they're "sorry" for the mistake and will send me the 920i in a day or 2!
I probably will kick myself for not getting the 32gb one but this is the 1st time I'm getting a phone without a removable SD card. ..

I have Sprint. Which Note 8 to buy? Root. Please Help!

Hello,
Which Note 8 should I buy?
International Version
Unlocked Version
Sprint Version
I heard the processor for the International Version is best I think it stats with an E. Should I get that?
I would like to root.
Does it matter or should I just order one directly from Sprint?
Will this work with Sprint?
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Factory Unlocked Phone - 6.3" Screen - 64GB - Midnight Black (U.S. Warranty)
This one from Amazon?
Should I buy that one above from Amazon or buy it directly from Sprint?
Can I root both of them?
I would like to order one today, I just don't know if I should order from Sprint or Amazon.
P.S.
Also if this is not possible should I get a S8 or S8 Plus? However, reading over on their threads doesn't look like root is possible really there either, hit or miss. Is that true? Which S8 I should get? International or US?
I mainly want apps like:
Ad Block
YouTube Background Player
YouTube Ad Block
ETC...
Please Advise.
you said sprint, sprint is cmda... meaning, exynos WILL NOT WORK. no international phone, you must buy snapdragon. now you have two choices carrier locked, and carrier unlocked. both have a locked boot loader and are not currently capable of root. if you purchase the phone out right it does not really matter which version you get. if you buy sprint locked after 50 days on their network they will carrier unlock the phone. the only true difference is carrier bloatware/ software which I'm hearing can be flashed using odin

from what I hear it is possible to root the s8, but it limits your max battery charge to 80%? kinda a **** trade off if you ask me.
so I'm like you I thought I must have root, my last android was a Nexus with a completely unlocked boot loader and I flashed custom roms when I tired of my current rom. that was four years ago and I've been jailbroke iOS since. do you still need root?
most people will say no. if they say absolutely the main arguments I've heard are for xposed(which doesn't even work on android 7) and viper4android (or some similar name, a sound tweak I think) besides those two, removing bloatware, and hosts file ad blocking.
my personal experience: I will be giving up an unlocked boot loader by purchasing the note 8. this mean no custom roms. I haven't given up hope for a future possible root method, but I am willing to accept that it may never come or when it does we can only charge to 80% or something else ridiculous. I don't need root, I would like it, but I will compromise.
tldr;probably not, especially if you are willing to sub to YouTube red for 10$ a month.

The issue is that the Snapdragons have locked bootloaders but you need a SD version to use the Sprint network. It doesn't matter if you buy a Note 8 or an S8, the issue with the locked bootloader is the same.
For me personally, I need root because a lot of the apps I have use root. If you only wanted to block ads on YouTube, it's probably unnecessary and far more hassle than it's worth.

Last question. I saw on another thread that this ... Is this true? Should I buy one that is unlocked from Amazon or the Samsung site and get hotspot or can I get hotspot on the Sprint one or do I need to search for the perfect app to do it? Which would be easier?
Unlocked version:
Hotspot - Awesome
Download Booster - Awesome
No Bloat - Awesome
Wi-Fi Calling - working awesomely
Sprint Version:
LTE Calling - I might miss, might be worth flashing Sprint mod when available...
Please Advise.

Sorry, I can't provide any guidance in this area. I'm in Australia and don't have experience with the inclusions/exclusions on specific American networks such as Sprint. I do know they use CDMA technology, which the Exynos SoC doesn't support.
Hopefully, one of the other enlightened souls on this forum can help you with this question.

The Sprint Version will cut out the download booster and hot spot unless your plan includes it but include calling plus features which include their version of the Wi-Fi Calling and LTE Calling for surfing over calls....but we already have that with Wi-Fi calling...Sprint also has Bloat software such as VVM but I install Google Voice for voicmail...it is up to you...at this point I have found no function lost.

When I called my wife on Wi-Fi Calling i was able to surf the web as well...I'll double check tomorrow when she is awake though
I have the unlocked version arriving soon and I will be using it with sprint. (With the free 1 year promo)
AFIK only the sprint and unlocked versions are whitelisted to work on sprint. Any other snapdragon models you will need to request a manual request to add your IMEI to the sprint database.
And I believe the Exynos models isn't compatible with CDMA at all, something with licensing or patent issues with Qualcomm.

Are you serious. I will be giving up call over data? WHY? Is this like that for Verizon and AT&T? Have they all lost call over data or do they just not want you to be able to do it?
Should I keep my Note 3 for that very reason?
Does any phone like the S8 or S8 Plus have call over data?

Question Completely lost here. Tmobile to Verizon

Afternoon all. Haven't been on these forums in some time. Started on the galaxy nexus and eventually faded away from any tinkering a few years ago. Currently using an S21 Ultra that was t-mobile locked. Got it unlocked and switched to Verizon. Trying to research everything I can to get myself on the unlocked or VZW software to make sure I've got all that I should be getting from VZW.
I've so far found samkey to change ny CSC, unlocked software and a whole bunch of other **** and I'm completely lost
Any chance I can get pointed in the right direction? Nothing seems to make sense to me for some reason.
Sorry to come off as a bit stupid, I'm just very much out of practice.
It probably work better on AT&T I think.

The phone has all the radios needed, just have to update the software/csc to make use of them.

You're kind of in no mans land. Unless you have a very good reason to change service to Verizon, Tmobile would be the best option. Samkey won't change your Primary CSC to VZW. Verizon Firmware will remain in conflict with your TMO Primary CSC. Hard to say what compatibility issues this evokes. Samsung is making it more challenging to mix and match Firmware/CSC's. If you have a Multi-CSC device normally you SHOULD be able open the dialer and enter *#272*IMEInumber# (In the thread replace IMEInumber with your actual IMEI Number). Press the Dial Icon, you should see a screen with the list of available CSC codes for your device. Select VZW and tap the Install option. Another user with similar issues stated Android 11 eliminated Multi-CSC options so if you are bent on having Verizon as your Service Provider give it a shot and see what happens.
Circumstances changed and my reception has taken a serious downgrade. Add in the awful experience getting the network unlock done. I changed to VZW already.

Well if you're fine being on "unlocked" firmware, just flash to G998U1

Honestly, I haven't flashed a phone since my galaxy s5. I'm in the exact opposite situation you're in. Was going to try flashing tmobile firmware, and saw this post. Curious if it all worked out for ya
Not hard at all. Fire up ODIN, use the XAA (Or whatever region you are) U1 firmware, flash the wipe CSC in ODIN, boot, insert VZW SIM when it asks. Done.
*Edit I flashed a Tmob to unlocked in about 5 minutes. Check the U1 firmware post for instructions. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...1-firmware-links.4220223/page-6#post-85580269
