Good day people!
I have a android unit for my car.
It is pure android 4.4
I want to get root access but then I need to enter Developer or Debug mode.
Now here is the problem: The device is locked down so there is a setting menu but without the “about device” I need to enable debug mode.
Does somebody push me in the right direction?
Thanks!!

1. First make sure Developer Options is enabled on your device:
a. Go to 'Settings' head to 'Security' and check "Unknown Sources."
b. Next enable USB Debugging: Go to 'Settings' and scroll down until you access "About." Go to 'Software Information', and access "More". Rapidly tap on "Build number" until it tells you that you have enabled developer options. Now go back and Developer Options now appears above "About". Go in and check "USB debugging" and "OEM unlocking" (to allow bootloader to be unlocked).
2. Unlock your bootloader: this flashing procedure will wipe all the data on your device for security reasons - there's no way around that. It’s recommended that you backup what you want manually.
a. Access HTCDev which will provide the instructions to do so. Sign in first and select your device model [HTC Desire *]. First you will need to update to the latest Java, and download and install the latest Android SDK and latest HTC USB Driver v4.16.0.001. Next, download the following zip file 'adb' which is required for unlocking the bootloader of your device.
b. Power off phone, press and hold Volume Down and then press and hold Power; hold both buttons to start the device into Bootloader mode.
c. Connect the device to the computer via a USB cable
d. Now we must get the 'Identifier Token' for unlocking the bootloader.

Know the username and password. That is the only way to get to Developer Options to enable OEM unlocking.

Enabled developer options
System->About Phone-> Scroll to bottom and TAP on BUILD 5x (I believe)
then go back once , Developer options , Enable USB DEBUGGING , Authorize your Device and you should be able to proceed onto the bootloader unlocking guide on Motorola's Website

i solved the issue with the no permissions in adb. a few minor issues i should of noticed and actually taking the time to think the problem through solved it......
but i somewhere messed up when rooting my phone (shouldnt of been drinking and thought i could still do it...) and know i am in a reboot coming out of my bootloader... will not boot into my recovery whrn it dows its only for a few seconds and the command lines runnung it says that script is finishing but it quickly reboots to a black screen that says bad key and reboots then says n a on it. fastboot will not do anything but say waiting on device. so...... i guess i got a project for a few days
Hey guys, I must reset my phone.
And now I have problem to activate the developer mode. I tip on the top blank in the info option an nothing happens.
Have someone the same problem?
In 4.4 you must go to setting versión and click several times to activate developper mode
Regards
Yes i know. But with the last version from Android Auto 4.4.592344 this not work.
I have the same versión, click setting , next click versión , you obtain a list of your official and custom apps, click the list seversl times and one pop up appairs when you can anable developper mode.
Thank You. That works.

So im looking to root my Pixel 5 and maybe try custom roms etc. I have turned on developer options, enabled USB debugging and fastboot, I cannot seem to get any further however.
If I type ADB devices with the device turned on as per usual it detects the device, I can even restart it into bootloader. Once the phone is in the bootloader phase however im unable to detect the device, therefor proceed any further.
Has anyone else come across a similar issue or know what may be wrong?

Uninstall your platform tools and install them again and make sure they are up to date. That's how I fixed it. Also in developer options make sure Default USB Configuration is set to the 1st option.
