Hello, I just received my unlocked HTC one dev. edition from the manufacturers website, and I was wondering which carrier would be better suited for the phone. I was reading that the dev. edition isn't well supported for T-mobile, unless the branded version was bought. Then I read that for an att plan, I would need to go to the corporate store in order to maybe get a plan if they allow me to. I would just like to have optimal speeds, with this optimal device. Any suggestions on what I should do?
ps. I don't know if this was addressed earlier but I tried looking around
My suggestion would be to try T-Mobile first. See how it works out for you at home and at your job, or other places where it might be important to you to have good reception. Check the coverage maps on the respective carrier websites. If it doesn't work out then see if you can try out AT&T. If you are friendly and you let the reps know your intentions maybe they will work with you. T-Mobile is cheaper than AT&T last time I checked so that's definitely a plus.

Thanks for the reply. Before I head out to T-mobile, I heard that the dev. edition doesn't support HSPA+ nor 1700Mhz for LTE speed. So if I do get a plan, I wonder if I'll end up with EDGE. Is that possible?

Btw I live in the Chicago suburbs, and when I checked the 1900Mhz coverage on the T-mobile site, it was spotty all around the suburbs.
According to the article below it should support at least HSPA+ when using T-Mobile. Give the article a read.

Hey all,
Hope this is in the right place. Saw a few similar questions, but nothing exactly like what I was looking for.
I currently have a VZW Galaxy Nexus, rooted, running Shiny ROM with Xposed and GravityBox. Thinking about dumping VZW and going to a Moto X on AT&T or TMO, both prepaid. Question is, which carrier's phone would I be able to use outside the US? I'll be going to Europe this summer and would like to purchase a local SIM in Europe and use it there, instead of paying roaming fees on AT&T or TMO.
According to Wikipedia (can't post link) and what I've read on here, the TMO version is SIM unlocked. So this means it will work on all GSM carriers, right? In the US, that would be AT&T (if TMO doesn't have good signal where I live), and when I travel, that means I can use a local SIM, correct?
Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated!

Yep, that's correct. T-mo is SIM unlocked. I use mine with AT&T actually too. It should work abroad with no trouble other than tracking down a local nano sim or cutting one down.
If however you want to use LTE abroad I don't think the bands in the T-Mobile version match those used in Europe. HSPA+ should work fine though.
From my experience when traveling abroad a prepaid SIM w/ LTE was way more expensive than something I wanted just for being able to gchat home and look up directions on gmaps so it was a moot point.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! I figured LTE wouldn't work in Europe, I was fine with settling for HSPA+ or 3G.
Found a thread here explaining the differences between AT&T, TMO, and Dev Edition. From what I can see, the TMO edition is more flexible than the AT&T edition. Only difference compared to Dev Edition is that unlocking the bootloader on TMO voids your warranty.

LTE works in Europe although is not yet as widely spreaded as in the USA. But you'll be fine with 3G which is fast enough and most countries are well covered with that network. More important issue is roaming if you are planning to visit different countries. You must switch between different operators and even using service from the same operator in different states ( e.g. T-mobile) imply roaming charges. In my opinion the best solution is using local sim with best data plan and voip for calling in every country. If you don't want to switch sim cards, you may find the best roaming solution with prepaid Vodafone Italy. You can buy its clone online (http://www.motorhomewifi.com/product/europa-sim-roaming-data-sim-card/) and refill it in any Vodafone shop around Europe.
Did everyone get the recent email from Sprint about free international data and texting? This is great news since I will be traveling to Europe in a couple of months, but I'm wondering if our HTC Ones will work without a hitch, or if a GSM hack will be required. The email says you need an 'LTE/GSM-capable device'. I know we have LTE with Sprint here in the US, but does this mean Europe has LTE/CDMA towers? I thought they only had GSM. TIA
My Spint HTC One m7 worked fine over in Europe in previous trips without any tweaks except turning on international roaming (voice/data). The recently announced service works on GSM network and doesn't include LTE/4G. It is 2G service. So while it is free (and equivalent to T-Mobile), it is going to be slow.

Just like Sprint service here. You won't notice the difference! :silly:

Since my holiday bonus is coming up I'm purchasing me and the wife new phones. I live in the US and the $200-$350 price range does not have very many options that are US specific. Seen this one on Amazon and the reviews are mixed about 4G LTE connectivity.
Was wondering what's everyone's (if anyone) experiences are? I'm using Metro as my carrier now but hoping to switch to AT&T if possible. Thanks for reading and any insight!
I'm in the US but I'm on fi so I have full lte coverage. Not sure about AT&T. Also got mine from Amazon snelx3
That's promising at least t-mobile/metro is an option. Thanks for the reply
I'm on metro pcs and the sne-lx3 works great. No Volte, but it works flawlessly on lte

I have the same one (sne-lx3) i live in Atlanta using mine on cricket wireless, i get great service.
Hi, I was wondering if an unlocked Sprint LG V40 is good for any other US carriers? any band restriction? Many Thanks.
As far as I know I have the full V40 ThinQ LM-V405UA network unlocked and factory unlocked version and it works well with ATT and T-Mobile as well with sprint am not sure if it will work with Verizon because as you know Verizon and Sprint do NOT like to support each other's phones even though they are in most cases IDENTICAL in every way.
I did do a check on verizon BYOD site and it says Mine is NOT compatible with there system as I had guess it would say that.

Hi Zxhwk, do you know if T-Mobile Wifi Calling is working and do you get full 4G LTE speed on T-Mobile? I don't know if there are some bands missing for T-Mobile 4G LTE.

I'd really like to know this as well.
LM-V405UA is way cheaper used than a LM-V450TAB!
I'm using unlocked sprint with Verizon network, works fine except advanced calling when you use your data together with the call. Spring uses different technology for that which does not work on Verizon. Also voice mail notification does not work. Otherwise no issues
Can the Verizon image be flashed to the sprint hardware (which appears to be identical) to get the Verizon advanced calling features?

Yes you can flash the Verizon KDZ
Can I replace the motherboard from a Verizon or AT&T LG V40 with a T-Mobile one? I ask because the T-Mobile LM-V405TA can't be rooted and it would be cheaper to buy a motherboard than a whole nother phone.
