Weird battery issue and a couple of quirks

I have been loving the N1 since I picked it up a couple of weeks ago. It is so quick, the screen is fantastic but the best thing is that I can tailor it exactly to my needs/preferences. There are a couple of things I can't work out and your help would be really appreciated:
1. I had my phone in a bag today and when I took it out 2hours later the battery had died. Strange, because the battery has been fine. When I charged it and went to find out what had used the battery it just had 'while last unplugged for 0s' in a grey bar at the top. Any idea what this means?
2. I have one issue with Handcent. The customisation is unbelievable but I can't switch one thing off. When I long hold the search button it now gives me the option of quick message or voice search. I would just prefer it to go straight into voice search (default) but can't seem to get rid of the handcent option. There is a setting for it in handcent but if you choose to switch it off it still stays as an option when you long press search it just means you can't access the quick message when you press it(?) anyone figured this out?
3. When I am listening to music and someone calls it doesn't interrupt the music. Is there a setting for this? I have it on vibrate
Sorry for the long post and newbie questions, thanks for reading it and any help is greatly appreciated. Lets hope Google keeps developing it because they are developing the most innovative web based solutions and this phone is awesome already!

Just got my N1 - Need some tips

Greetings all,
I got switched from iPhone 3GS to N1 a couple of days back in Malaysia and once i started using it find some things annoying..
- Phone gets really hot when connected to power plug
- Earphones are wierd fit and uncomfortable
- The ringer volume is very LOW. I miss lot of calls when I sleep and missing an alarm is the worst of it.!!!
Doesnt look like the only one seeing these. Googled quite a bit and seems to be common problems. Need advise from the members here on how they worked around this?
Got this from a colleague of mine, who said he rooted it before handing it off. what does it mean? And I need a good screen protector too!!
Thanks a lot to you all in advance. looking forward to lot of tips from this forum.

- My GPS doesnt work properly either. do i have to install any app? google didnt help.
- How do I get rid of the finger prints made already.?
Rooting will fix your low call volume and make it too loud if anything. It looks like you're rooted, so just install cyanogen ROM.
hmm, i have been avoiding root... but one of my complaints is the call volume and ring volume.... I miss more calls then i am use to...
rooting helps this?

Not getting push email when on wi-fi after flashing Serendipity 5.12

I just noticed I am not getting push notifications for emails while on wi-fi. As soon as i turn wi-fi off the emails come in.
I downloaded k-9 to see if it was just gmail acting up but its the same for that as well.
have done quite a bit of searching for answers but none of them seem any good please help me out this is pretty annoying
nobody?
aside from the god awful battery life im getting with this rom that im also tryin to fix i really like it and want to keep it..
but there has got to be some way to fix this wifi notifications problem really bothering me since i am on wi-fi all the time at home
edit: im pretty sure if i turn the wi-fi sleep policy to when screen is off then that might be a way around this problem but I never had to to that on stock so i feel like there must be a way to fix it.
well thanks for all the help guys i appreciate it
but if anybody is interested for future reference.. by going into the modem and allowing my device through the gaming dmz that seems to have fixed the problem
glad i made this thread (not)

[Q] Random Vibrate, No Notification

Okay folks, I wonder if anyone out there can help... My One is randomly vibrating once, with no notification, and I can't figure out why.
Other threads point to similar issues but not the same problem I have. I've been troubleshooting a lot, but can't narrow it down much. What I know so far:
Appears random. Not a particular time, battery level etc
No notifications appear in the bar. It can happen even when I'm looking at the phone and there is no visual indicator.
I have a Pebble watch, so most notifications can and do come through to the watch - no notifications on it when the vibrate happens.
It also doesn't seem to be any kind of dropped Bluetooth connection with my Pebble, as the Pebble doesn't notify of a lost connection like it normally would.
I have also read threads for other HTC phones where it pointed to nfc being switched on. While I do usually leave NFC on, the vibrate still happens even when I disabled NFC
.
I was holding off until Vodafone decide to release the Sense 6 update, but I'm not holding my breath there...
Is there anything that I could investigate? I was trying to avoid rooting or modding the phone for as long possible, but would be prepared to do it. However, I don't really fancy going down that road if the problem will still be there.
Suggestions appreciated!

If your phone is not modified in any way, the best thing to do is take it to service

Show me your home automation ideas...

I'm currently using Home Assistant ... But to be honest it seems like it started off as an idea to consolidate and integrate all my devices into a nice single "Smart Home"... However it seems to have become more of a time vacuum... I'm spending more and more time fixing (or trying to fix). Issues that arise. Has anyone had any joy making any "set and forget" home automations using Tasker and Alexa/Autovoice ? Any ideas welcome. I want to do things like cast a certain video to my little boys TV at a certain time at night. Trigger my lights/ power on my pc when I arrive home. So like I say any ideas would be great
