Hello
So I have a sm-g925a build nrd90m.g925aucu7erb1 , android version 7.0
I'm wanting to root the phone because all of a sudden the back and recent app keys stopped working completely. They light up but don't do anything.
I cleared the cache and that did nothing. Then I did a factory reset, and that made the back key work again temporarily, but now it's not working again.
So I'm looking to root the phone because I have the feeling those keys actually do work. I'm seeing a lot of things about rooting from android 6, and I saw something about going odin mode full stock, I'm guessing that's to root from there?
Hoping somebody could tell me the best way to root from 7, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Wondering if any of you guys could help me out here?
By the way, if this is the wrong section for this, apologies and feel free to move?
Nexus 7, 16gb, rooted with stock 4.1.2. I have not edited the build.prop, still using the 4.1.2 Keyboard, Gmail etc.
So, nothing changed other than unlocked/rooted.
I have superSU pro and have 'Survival Mode' enabled, which is basically and OTA Rootkeeper (I am sure you already know this...)
When we got the OTA to 4.1.2, it worked no problem, survival mode worked and I kept root and custom recovery.
So this morning I get a notification to upgrade to 4.2, which I done. It restarted, and installed with no errors etc, then comes the Google screen with the unlocked padlock... and it stayed this way for an hour, so I am assuming it is borked?
I restarted it, same again, so rebooted into the bootlaoder menu. Going into recovery shows the android dude on his back, red triangle ! etc, so I gather my custom recovery is gone.
So the question is, where to go from here, and is there a walkthrough I can use to resuce this (I am techy enough minded, but given the state it is in, loathed to make it worse down to sheer stupidity)?
Any help would be much appreciated guys.
BTW - I used Wugs Toolkit to root, so that is all set up with drivers etc, can that be used now to recover?
No ideas?
Hello! I'm very much a beginner at tinkering with root and for months now I've been meaning to unroot my Galaxy S5 but I have no idea how to go about doing that! Especially because I am very afraid I will wipe all my apps/data or brick my phone. I used this tutorial exactly, and it worked perfectly. www (dot) w0lfdroid.com/2014/09/TowelRoot-Samsung-Galaxy-S4-S5-and-Note3-Android-4.4.2-NF-or-Later.html
However, I really want my phone to update to Lollipop and the update won't work while my phone is rooted with that ROM I loaded... I tried unrooting it, and it still won't update. I tried to flash my stock firmware, but it doesn't take.
If I am able to update my software without uninstalling root as well, I'd love that.
At this point I don't even mind completely resetting the phone back to the state when I bought it just so I can update the software. But I read somewhere that a factory reset might not even take care of the problem? I don't know what to do!!
tl;dr I want to update my phone to lollipop, but since I rooted it, it will not update OTA, flashing original firmware doesn't take for some reason, not sure if a factory reset would even solve the issue of not updating. how do I update it to lollipop/completely wipe the phone and reset it? (SamMobile does not carry the lollipop version for AT&T galaxy s5)

Good evening and sorry if post a thread of which I see two similar oness
However, I could not find a solution in the other ones and have questions which go a little further and really hit my privacy.
I have two XZ3 and both could go into recovery node when I bought them and after a while could not.
I used the reset to factory seting fo wiping cache etc. quite regularly as I had/have reasons to belive that I was/am spied on.
Sice the recovery mode possibility is gone I feel totally unsafe with both phones.
I tried all possibilities I can find of this website or any other in internet, and all were without success.
As described by others, after pushing the power button, there is no led light and it boots suoer-quicklyto the blue stripe view in which we wait till the boot is complete.
Till two days ago I thought ok, the phone just needs a flash, wipe everything away once and all would be resolved.
Well, two days ago I flashed my phone the first time from lollipop to kitkat, which worked without problems and then rooted it with gifroot and then put back lollipop.
Everything ran smoothly and after the whole process I had a rooted lollipop version with a working recovery. I tried the apps which confirm if the root works abd everything was great.
Tthe morning after, however the recovery possibility was gone. The phone was still rooted for everything, but for recvery mode.
I tried several apps, which I gave superuser access with SuperSu, but even from the apps the boot goes always just the NORMAL way without recovery.
To give it another try today I flashed that xz3 again, then rooted it with Kingo root, which in Kitkat firmware worked lalso super easy, the checked with other apps whihchconfirmed that the root works, but still no recovery possibility, no matter with which app..
I really need a specialist who can explain that to me, as I am going mad to think that someone else has total control over my phones.
How realistic is that some spyware does not allow the recovery as of course it knows that it would be eliminated then.
Please give me your thuoghts or knowledge. Everything helps. And if you know a method with which I can be sure that nothing is keft on the phone, I would appreciate.
Thanks and Regards

Spyware cannot affect Recovery unless it is granted root permissions and is embedded on system.
Also do not use KingoRoot, a thread in the SG note 3 forums reported Spyware installed after using it, source. For now steer clear of that application until all claims have been proven false
At any rate, ( assuming you have Unlocked Bootloader ) just flash another kernel with recovery, do a full wipe including formating the system partition and restore your system via flashing a rom

If you can enter flash mode, flash the latest firmware and software for your device using flash tool.
What is flash mode? I can get the phone in a mode where the indicator lamp turns blue is it that?
get Flashtool @ https://xperiafirmware.com/flashtool/
it includes Xperiafirm so you can download a stock ROM for your device and build an .ftf file
when you have the ftf file, drag it into the main Flashtool window

Hi folks,
I know there have been other threads on this, but I've read everything I can find and still can't figure it out.
I have a factory stock AT&T Note 3 N900A that has never had root or anything else attempted on it. I've had it for about 2 years. When I got it, it had 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 on it. While I've had it, I have updated only through OTA when they were available. It has been running OC1 for the past year or so without a problem.
My son has now moved to another phone and I took this Note 3 today and did nothing more than a clear cache/factory reset from the recovery menu. Phone came up clean into the AT&T setup under lollipop OC1 with everything fine except now the back/soft button doesn't work. Menu soft and Home button work fine. Nothing but a factory reset????
I've since pulled down NC2 and NL1 and loaded them via Odin. Under NC2 and NL1, the back button again works just fine... so not a hardware issue. I've reloaded OC1 (from the file made available by Walter White - thank you!) and the back button stops working again.
I'm now in the process of going through them in order one more time... downgraded to 4.4.2/NC2 - back button works again, upgrading to 4.4.4/NL1 - back button still working. Now moving up to 5.0/OC1 again (in process and taking the time to post this message being the pessimist that I am). ...and same thing. Boots up into 5.0/OC1 and all looks good EXCEPT THE BACK BUTTON DOESN'T WORK AGAIN :-/ ugh...
Assuming this again leaves me with a non-functional back button under lollipop... It's not working again... Can anybody tell me what I am missing? The phone was used with OC1 from the AT&T OTA update for over a year without this problem. I would love to understand what makes it basically "change it's mind" after a factory reset was done.
Thanks in advance for any help and sincere apologies if I missed the answer to this in all of my research.
Best regards,
rjb
I was in the same boat as you, had a Note 3 that was updated to 5.0, back button worked fine. Bought a replacement Note 3, back button worked on 4.4, then stopped once I upgraded to 5.0, but magically started working again once I downgraded to 4.4. I ended up returning the replacement for a new Note 3 that had 5.0 pre-installed, back button working this time around. Really weird that an official software update could cause such a problem on certain phones. I guess your best option is buying a new Note 3 with 5.0 pre-installed. Best of luck
Hello,
I apologize for requesting assistance with my introductory post, but I'm at a dead end.
I had rooted my Note 3 on 4.2.2 using towelroot. Everything was fine until I required Android 5 for my new Honda Ridgeline to run Android Auto. I had to have a Samsung rep load the factory AT&T 5.0 manually, upgrading the OS.
Nothing worked well until I performed the recommended factory reset. Apps reinstalled automatically after doing so, and I restored contacts pics and music from my smart switch backup.
I want to restore more from my Titanium Backup, but I am unable to root. I attempted KingoRoot and even paid $14.95 to get a "guaranteed" root from myrootsolution.com as a "last" resort. It didn't work either! (Guess I'll ask for my guaranteed refund!)
I'm PC savvy, but I don't have much experience in modding android. I have read about everything I can on this and still have not found a solution. I'm guessing that the various solutions are not working because it was rooted under 4.2.2.
Hopefully some kind soul out there will be able to help me with this. I'll do my best to pay it forward.
Thanks in advance!
I think I found the problem. I got an ota update and I'm now on the C3 revision. It was just released this month. Guess I'm out of luck for a while, huh?
