Problem with Salli update after 5.6.2.0 - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Part news and a question to the bright minds here at xda-developers. With what must have been a day after the 5.6.2.0 fire update for my Fire 8 7th edition there was a notification on an update for the ivona Salli voice. The voice for Salli I am very familiar with from the hours clocked in using a TTS with Salli's voice to read novels over headphones. In my opinion the update wrecked what was the best voice from ivona. So i get on with amazon chat tech support and their claim is a factory reset would revert it back (did not try that) and the update was made by a 3rd party (hey, amazon didnt you buy ivona?). Thats my news about the update and for my question. Was there an alternative to factory resetting to bring back the oem Salli voice?

Probably not as most Amazon components reside in the system partition which is inaccessible without root. Even if a factory reset works (I have my doubts) you'll likely face reversion to the 'undesirable' Salli on subsequent FireOS updates.

I did see a 4pda link for a modded apk of the ivona engine and voice packs, i would see if this works before doing a factory reset.

yeah 4pda works. I just installed Salli on my S9.

[Q] Google Now Hotword

So I just got a Moto X. Out of the box, Google Now hotword detection ("Ok Google") worked perfectly both in Google Now and in the Google Now launcher that I sideloaded. Then, hotword detection randomly turned off. If I uninstall and reinstall updates to the Google Search app, hotword is temporarily fixed, but it won't last more than a day until it turns off again. This happens whether or not Motorola's own Touchless Controls are enabled or disabled.
It seems like some other app is causing it to turn off since a third-party hotword detection app wouldn't work, either, but I've hardly installed any apps since I just got it.
Also, I've already tried the most common suggestions such as ensuring that my voice input language is English (US) and making sure than no Accessibility options are enabled.
Any help to get back hotword detection would be greatly appreciated!
The newest Google search update broke hotword. The only way to keep it working for now is to uninstall the update and not install it again until possibly the next update.
Do you know what the latest version of Google Search is that still supports hotwords so I can grab an apk? When I revert back to the factory version of Google Search, it breaks the Google Now Launcher.
Also, any idea why hotwords would work for a while and then randomly stop. This has happened several times, all while I've had the same version of Search.
Uninstall back to 3.1. Make your changes then install 3.2, this is where Hotword Detection is still there but not selectable and Ok Google works. Now install 3.3, Hotword is no longer there but Ok Google still works. Don't install 3.4, you loose both.
Worked for me twice, I accidentally hit Update All and got 3.4 back, had to start over. I've been back on 3.3 for a week or so and Ok Google still works.
I uninstalled to 3.1 (factory version), and did get hotword back, but I couldn't use the Google Now Launcher. Installed 3.2 and still had hotword, but still not Google Now Launcher. Finally, I installed 3.3, I still had hotword, and the Google Now Launcher worked. But a few hours later, hotword got disabled again.
It doesn't seem like the problem is tied to a version. I've gotten hotword to work with 3.4, but it becomes disabled after a little while of use.

In previous versions of Google search, you could say "Okay Google" instead of "Okay Google Now" to activate the hotword when you had the Google app open? I just recently bought the phone and it came already with the newest version of Google Now installed.
I don't think you've ever been able to say "Ok Google Now" as a hotword to activate voice search in the Google app. "Ok Google Now" is Motorola's keyword for its Touchless Controls. Touchless Controls have always worked for me, but when I'm in the Google app (or in the Google Now launcher that I sideloaded), I prefer to use Google's own hotword, "Ok Google" to activate voice search.
Out of the box, my phone also came with the latest version of Google Now installed, and hotword worked out of the box, but for some reason it became disabled. Any time I uninstall and reinstall Google Search (or even clear data), hotword is restored temporarily, but then becomes disabled again after a while.
Did you leave Touchless Control untrained? I didn't disable it but it is untrained at the moment. My phone is a Developers Edition, unlocked and rooted, if that helps any.
I was able to use the Google Now Launcher on 3.2, maybe it is the version of the Launcher? Mine is 1.0.16.1154249 and I did side load it. I haven't
had any trouble with the hotword detection reverting to off as long as I say on 3.3.
Various threads in different forums say different things about this to being a Chrome problem to a Google Search problem to Motorola disabling it
on purpose so the it doesn't interfere with Touchless Control. I guess I'll have to see what happens when Search 3.5 comes out.
At the moment, I don't have a car so the parking feature doesn't have a relevance for me but setting a timer would be kind of useful.
If is is an accident, it would be nice it it were fixed quickly. If it is on purpose, I really wish someone would re evaluate the policy of not allowing a
function on a device that I purchased and would like to make the decision for my self. Just my opinion.
I do hope you find your solution. I came from a Galaxy Nexus and I have been really liking this phone so far as it is as close to the stock that the
GNex was.

No, I did train Touchless Control. I could try disabling it and then re-enabling it without training it, but I don't see how that would fix anything. I actually like using Touchless Control for when the phone is out of my reach (which is exactly what it's for), but it's kinda slow and doesn't always respond. Ideally, I'd like to use both Touchless Controls and Google's hotword.
My phone is the unlocked T-Mobile version and unrooted. I don't know if that makes a difference.

My launcher version is 1.0.9.1039417, but I grabbed an APK of the same version you have and it still didn't work with Google Search 3.2.
Anyway, maybe an update to Google Search or Touchless Controls will fix it eventually.
According to Moto, the disabled this as it conflicts with Touchless Controls. I think that's BS, but whatever.
I was having a conversation with my fiancé earlier and Google Now popped up when I said "Ok, you" in conversation. I appreciated Google's sentiment.

TBH, this is the most likely explanation, since, no matter what version of Search I use, hotword works for a little while and then gets disabled. I even installed a third-party hotword-listening app, and it was disabled immediately. Really hope Moto rethinks this.

I've raised this issue multiple times over on the Motorola Forums. The Forum Manager there told me that's what Motorola told him. It's unfortunate.

It sounded like he was going to bring it up and submit a report on the issue, using the conversation in the Motorola forums as a basis. It'd be nice if that led to hotword being re-enabled but who knows. Sounds like some software update is on the way, at least for t-mobile; maybe that will help. Wishful thinking...
Maybe 4.4.3 but who knows.
Google Now Hotword
If your phone is rooted, I think I have a solution for you. It's been working on my phone for about a day now. I don't think I have enough posts in to do any links, but if you go to Droid Life and read the article under "Google Makes “Ok Google” System-wide Hotword Detection Official" the is a link in the comments to a utility called UnLeashTheGoogle. Follow the instructions to get the Google Now stuff working. There is an added step however, look for hotword_blacklisted_devices and change the XT1060 to anything else, I used XT1000. I also went as far as disabling the Touchless Control app so that it wouldn't interfere with the Google Now functions.
All of you that use Touchless Control, great, it is a neat feature, but I prefer to use a more Nexus like feel. To each his own.
SoloDB, that would be a great solution if I were rooted. It's almost tempting enough, although I don't feel like wiping my device at this point.
It's sad that even with the rollout of Google Now's always listening feature, it's still disabled on the Moto X. And it's obviously intentional since the device is blacklisted.

You can root using pie via the moto x toolkit without wiping anything. I just did this the other day, but I deleted everything from the blacklist section.
The only issue I'm having now is always listening via Bluetooth in my car (2013 Honda crz hands free link non-nav). It worked flawlessly with my galaxy nexus.
Yes, unfortunately you have to have root. The utility needs root and before I found UnleashTheGoogle I edited the Google Search app pref file to
alter the blacklist which got Ok Google working in the first place, I needed root for that as well being the folder is in the System area. The utility
got everything enabled as well.
I know there are security issues having a rooted phone, but I learned in the Galaxy Nexus days how valuable it is to have a bit more control of
the phone to do the kind of stuff you'd like to do other than what Verizon and, in the case of the Moto X, the manufacturer would "prefer" you to do. The Developers Edition of
Moto X really has made the transition away from the old Galaxy Nexus really easy.
I wish I could root but my work email policies check for that.

LJZ01H with 5.1.1?

Hello,
I recieved yesterday my urbane and so far I'm loving it, but I have a question and would like to know if someone knows the answer.
My Urbane came with android 5.1.1 but the version is LJZ01H and it doesn't find any update.
Searching the internet I don't find much information about that version.
Will it be safe to sideload de LDZ22D or should I sideload the LJZ13E before (If i could find the rom)? and what will I benefit from it?
Thanks,
Xupamki
Did you ever get your watch updated? I'm having the same issue. Just got the watch, and it won't find any system updates. I've tried a couple of factory resets and let it charge overnight to give it plenty of time to download the update.
Does anyone have an ota update from LJZ01H? If I could find that, I could at least sideload it.
Thanks!!
Hello,
I'm french and I have the same issue. I try with sideload but there is just some files for LJZ13E to LDZ22D and LDZ22D to the last version so it doesn't work. I bought my LG Watch Urbane last week and I never had any updates. Reset and factory reset doesn't work...
Me too
Just throwing in my "me too" on this thread.
I just got my Urbane on Saturday. Worked well on Saturday but after a recent update to the Android Wear app on my Nexus 5, I get constant Android Wear crashes on my watch.
On the watch:
Build number: LJZ01H
Android Wear: 1.1.0.1838650
Google Play services: 8.3.01 (2385995-534)
Android OS: 5.1.1
Can't see any real clear way of updating the watch to Android Wear 1.3 LCA44B. I have tried "Forget watch/Factory reset" method twice with no prompt - still says system is up to date.
Because I use LG Urbane With iPhone so I really need to update Android Wear 1.3. But my watch have recovery LJZ01H.
Is there anyway to update? Please show me.
Thank!
I tried calling LG support for help and they basically said there was nothing they could do and it would update when it's ready. Hopefully we get lucky and it will update at some point...
EDIT: Just found a Thread on google support (new so i can't share the link, but search "android wear ljz01h" . Trying it now. We'll see.
Rather than just resetting the watch, why don't you try to do a reset of the whole AW environment. You can follow these steps to do it:
On the phone:
In Android Wear use the Disconnect... option.
In Android Wear, use Settings, Device settings and touch the watch name, Touch FORGET WATCH.
Settings, Bluetooth. If you still see the watch, touch Forget... the watch so it no longer appears in the list of paired devices.
Settings, Device, Apps, select Google Play Services. Clear cache and Clear data.
Settings, Device, Apps, select Android Wear. Clear cache and Clear data.
Settings, Device, Apps, select Google App. Clear cache and Clear data.
Play Store, Apps, My apps, make sure there are no pending updates to AW, GPS or any other Google software. If there are, touch the Update all button.
Reboot.
On the watch:
Settings, Reset.
If that does not work, some people have found that uninstalling updates to the AW app itself and then waiting have allowed their watches to update.

I also contacted LG Support but via email. First reply said to confirm the was paired and the phone connected to the Internet (duh). The second reply recommended I return the watch to Amazon (sigh). The third reply just re-hashed my response to the "return it" recommendation - that the update was pushed out 'randomly' and that I just had to wait for it to arrive.
I recently tried doing a factory reset/wipe via recovery on the watch along with the "forget watch" in the Android Wear app - no change. I haven't tried the steps mentioned in your reply (clearing data/cache in the google apps on the phone). I think it may be worth a try.
Just tried the above method and it worked! The update was ready as soon as it finished syncing apps. Hope it works for others as well.

Worked for me too. Settings -> About -> System Updates said Downloading right away after performing that procedure.
Be aware that you will loose your home screen layout and a few more Google settings - the dialogs when you press "Erase all data" from the 3 Google apps listed reiterate this fact.
Thanks again!

Hello People...
Well i got a second hand 5th gen kindle from CEX, luckily its on 5.3.2.1 and from memory, I know this cant be rooted, but can disable or block apps, I blocked the updates, adverts, added google store and bits, and used a option that deleted all bloat except settings and photos, good i thought.....but
I actually miss the store, book store, prime video to name a few, but trying to re-install them from other sites gives errors, adb pushing or installing gives an error too, and trying to install them via google play just show that they are not available....
looking on manage all applications, all the apps that debloated show 'not installed for user' now....can i get them back or do i have to factory reset???

Unfortunately, a factory reset is the only known method for 'unhidding' apps that reside in the system partition on an unrooted device.
OK then mate, never mind.... My fault lol.... Do you think its worth upgrading kindle, or keeping on this firmware?

Newer builds (5.4 series) have more robust Alexia support and possibly a few more security patches. In your shoes I'd stay on 5.3.2.1 until there is a need to update.

Fire OS 6..3.x and play store (latest Fire HD 8)

Hi Guys,
Just unpacked my new fire hd8.
Did anyone already successfully install the play store on this Android 7 based device?
Would it work to simply try fetching the usual files from Nugat and install them?
Thanks for your help

ok, just gave it a try:
Google Services Framework and Google Account Manager 7.1.2
Google Play services 14.3.66 64bit nodpi
Google Play store 11.9.14-all
After starting Google Play the Fire insisted on installing nee Google Play services. I let it do it's job.
So far it worked. I can install apps.
I'm getting it on Saturday. How is it performing?

Quite ok, much faster than the older Fire 7 I had, and gave up on.
It is very usable. Downloaded quite a few apps now, and most perform well.
Only my local newspaper app still causes issue when logging in, but this app isn't working well in real live too..

Quick update. Realised that I was sloppy on the OS version: After the initial update it's 6.3.0.1. A reasonably clean Android 7.something
So far pretty much everything seems to work as wished. I usually install apps from the fire store if available, and then from play if I don't have the choice.
I have now Chrome, hangouts, hangouts meet, both with two accounts (enterprise and personal). Goole Play Music, Canon Camera Remote (Fuji is on the fire store) etc running.
Also my microsoft account works well, no issues with onedrive etc... For Skype I'm using the Kindle version.
One note: don't forget to enable the lock screen if you want to add a google enterprise account. Otherwise it will simply fail to log on, without a direct useful error message!
So I got my new Tablet yesterday, loaded it up today with the exact versions you list above, it lets me log in, but then kicks me out of the play store and asks me to log in again... Hope this isn't anything to do with 2FA or anything, but I can't figure out how to stay logged in and install apps...
Edit: Yeah, it lets me login, accept the terms, then goes right back to Checking info... Which leads to the login page...
Thought I had it with a factory reset, got a few apps installed, but now won't stay logged in again...
Google Play services won't run unless you update Google Play services
Has anyone run into this on the newest version of the Fire HD 8? I go to update Google Play services and it says it is 'installing' forever (well... it hasn't stopped yet at least... I've forced stopped it a few times, and tried again, but nothing) I've tried the most up to date guide on here (October 4th 2018) and this still sits here waiting on installing services... which stuff like Google Play Books needs... I mostly want GPB because I store a lot of books on Google, and this is a great little reading device.

Did you check which versions are now on your tablet?
Did you try to do an update of all apps on the Amazon Store first, and then on the Google play store? Make sure you are not "updating" any apps that are originally from the Amazon store, like Alexa (causing issues).
Can you log into your google account from the silk webbrowser?
Everything works pretty well on my tablet. I only had to download the Amazon Alexa app again from the Amazon store, after the play store had "updated" the original version, which caused it to crash.
Same issue continuous login loop

I can login to Google in Silk.
All versions are the following:
Google Services Framework and Google Account Manager 7.1.2
Google Play services 14.3.66 64bit nodpi (040400-213742215)
Google Play store 11.9.14-all 214884739
I have dual factor authentication on my Google account which requires me saying yes to an authorization prompt on my phone.
That seems to work though because after that I am prompted in the Google Play app with terms of service. When I accept them, it goes back to the login prompt, requiring me to enter my credentials again. This loop didn't end even after five attempts.

If you need something now return it and look elsewhere. Otherwise look for a workaround in the coming weeks. This doesn't feel like a showstopper issue.

Sorry to hear. Looks like something is behaving differently on your Fire.
You could try a complete reset and do it all over again if you are feeling adventurous.. Though I have heard that doing the same thing all over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity
I do not 2FA on my google account, so that could have triggered it.
btw.: Did you also have the message about updating google play service after google play store the first time? Apparently my google play services framework still seems to have the same version number... Just looking for things that went differently on your setup.
Returning sounds like a good plan if an android tablet is what you really want.
According to this article, Google apps are not supposed to work on the newest Amazon devices. It also mentions something called "Yalp Store" which might be interesting.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/new...-amazon-no-more-android-apps-fire-os-0183744/
Also: I am not sure if the Launcher Hijack apk v.3 is working on the new Fire 8, but I found a new launcher called "Flick Launcher" which allows you to set a custom action for the home button. Set the home button to open Flick Launcher (open itself), and it will go to home screen. It will require the pro version which is $2.50. I don't have a Fire 8 8th gen to test it on, but it does work on my Fire 7 7th gen, and my Moto E Play. It's very slow getting to the home screen on the Fire 7, which has Lollipop, but it's a lot faster on my phone, which has Oreo, so it might be faster on Nougat. I am not sure if this is a definite solution, but it could be.

I can confirm this, apps like "Google", "Voice Search" and "Assistant" time out with errors when using data on T-Mobile, but it works on wifi. I can't navigate to a street using assistant over 4G, but if I go directly into the Maps app and use the microphone icon in Maps it works correctly.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?

is it just for Tmobile or google services don't work on any mobile data?
Go to Apps & Notifications > Google services
Same issue
I am having similar issues. But, at one point google play store was stuck on loading. Also, gmail wasnt sending or receiving emails.
The problem comes and goes. Like, just now, I couldn't load any YouTube videos.
When I connect on WiFi, all the problems go away and switching back to mobile data. Works for a bit.
It is also only Google services. Twitter, WhatsApp, chrome, all fine.
@op, what sim card slot are you using?
Got it to work.
Go to System -> Applications -> Google Services
And turn on "Allow to use Mobile Data"

If you go to Settings -> Applications -> See all ### Apps -> [scroll to and tap on Outlook app] -> Data Usage -> [turn on "Background Data", and "Unrestricted Data Usage" options]
Tell me if that works. I did this step for apps: Calendar [google version from Play Store], Carrier Services [from Play Store] Gmail, Google, Google Play, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Hangouts.
I gave them all unrestricted data access and full permissions just to be safe. It's not like there's a risk of running out of battery on this phone, lol!
edit: I am on the China rom version and I see these settings.

I flashed into the WW version. So, all my little issues went away.
My instructions was for Google services.
Have your tried to go to battery optimisation and turning off optimisation for Outlook?
Also, there might be something under mobile manager to turn off as well?
Hi! I specifically made an account to reply, or rather, to reconfirm, that issues about this topic still persists in my phone.
Bought the Tencent Edition of the ROG Phone 2 few days back, I first encounter this issue yesterday when I open my Maps app and the map didn't load (grey screen) and at that time I was using my mobile data. Searched the net how to fix it, and did a few tweaks (mainly clearing cache, data and removing google account) and thankfully the map loads. However, another issue arises, I can't use Google app, Play Store and can't login on Google Maps. When I try to log in my account, I get the "There was a problem communicating with Google servers", and I assume most of you guys here had that exact problem.
I tried everything that almost every forums recommends. Starting from rebooting the phone, uninstalling updates from Google Play Store, clear the cache and storage of Google Play services and Google Play Store again, checked if my Apps & notifications/Google Services is on, turned on all notifications; permissions; background data and unrestricted data usage on all corresponding Google apps and services (Carrier Services, Google app, Google Play services, Google Play Store, Maps) and turned off battery optimization for the mentioned apps. Not any of the above worked for me, the only thing that resolves it is when I used Wifi to log in.
I know that this may be a minor issue and I know that I won't feel any of it hindering my daily phone usage. But I'm really bothered by the fact that something in my phone doesn't work normally as it should. I have been using Samsung phones for the longest time and haven't experienced such problems before. Is this really a bug and can't be fixed till who knows when, or is there something that I overlooked? Thanks much and sorry for the lenghty post. Blessings
cn version has this issue
fixed with ww rom
cn version is destinated to oriental market especcially
Thanks much for the help!
I don't have any experience in modding ROM, but I did find a guide here on how to do that. I'll think about whether I'm gonna try flashing my ROM or not, because... flashing ROMs will void the phone's warranty, yes?

If you bought a phone that was meant for the Chinese market in another country, you never really had a legit warranty right to begin with. (at least not with Asus, maybe with the seller if they have such policies)
Chinese ROMs have all Google services blocked. (Google services are banned in China). So you need to flash to WW ROM, sometimes seller will do it when they sell a Chinese phone to a different market, but apparently not in your case.

That makes sense lol.
Alright, I'll try flash my ROM later. Any noob-friendly guide you can recommend to me? Other than the guide by AryanAA.
And um, I know I can probably learn this if I searched for it, but does flashing your ROM resets/wipes your whole phone? And is there any major changes I should know (like maybe I won't be able to use some features ever again)? And is it kinda similar to rooting your phone?
Sorry for the noob questions, any help is much appreciated. Tqvm!

Hi was your issue fixed? I'm having same issues on Rog Phone 2, YouTube, Gmail, Google drive won't load with 3h/4g, they only load with WiFi. Have you for a fix ? Please reply
Hi guys, coming back to the forums after a long hiatus!
I have this issue also... Gapps don't work great on mobile data but perfect on WiFi... Some are fixed after clearing data but some are persistently bad such as gdrive which is important to me...
My phone is from ebay, its a tencent with a global rom and I'm in the UK...
Looking at my device info, it looks like my phone has a WW rom but a CN fingerprint... I will have the fingerprint changed today, update to 1910 and drop an update...
