Cancelling paused OTA update? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I accidentally started downloading the large Oreo update today (Still on Nougat) and although have it paused, it shows an icon permanently in the notifications bar staying download paused.
Is there a way of cancelling the download completely and get back to the download later option as I had before.

Unfortunately you will have to factory reset. I've tried clearing cache and it will not work. If you have root and TWRP you can try to find the data, I don't know where it is stored. If you go the reset route remove your sim card, mobile data and WIFI and then disable the OTA before it starts downloading again. Of course you will need a package disabler or use adb to disable the update files.

That sucks. I will probably bite the bullet and update to Oreo. My only concern is poor battery life.
Thanks for the information.

No problem. I can't comment on battery life for your model but it's been great for me on the 950U1.

i think you can use a package disable and disable the system update

I went ahead and updated to Oreo. Didn't fancy factory reset and installing/configuring tons of apps.
Still have the August update to do.
I'll wipe the cache afterwards. Let's see what it does to the battery life.

[Q] AT&T Software Update - Fails due to low battery

I've tried searching, but didn't seem to get anything on this one.
I've been trying to install the OTA Update to 4.3 for a minute, now... Currently, I've got the update downloaded, but it won't continue b/c it's saying the battery is too low. The thing is, the battery is at 100%. It is also plugged into a charger... Tried it with and without.
Here's info on my phone:
MJ5
Rooted via Kingo
Xposed Installer installed (very few modules installed - nothing hardcore)
RootCloak [1.4] installed in order to hide root status from the OTA update service
I have a bit of bloat uninstalled by Titanium Backup... But, that was all AT&T stuff like Navigator - I left the OTA service in place. I froze some Samsung bloat, but didn't uninstall it.
Any ideas on why I'm getting this error?
You have to be unrooted. At least that what I hear . When I got the update I did a factory reset and downloaded the update and installed with no issues.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
Blargh. I unrooted via Kingo, rebooted and I am still getting the same low battery error.
I really don't want to have to do a factory reset...... Are there any other options?
Ah, great. Now Kingo won't re-root the phone. Looks like factory reset is what I'll be spending my evening doing.
Great. Did a factory reset, and went to update. It failed; said the installation was interrupted.
I tried two more times... Same results. This is getting pretty frustrating...

Unfortunately nothing will work except restoring back to stock. I had to do that for the last 2 updates we've received. I just did it to get the last update and I am staying stock until Kitkat arrives then will look for a root solution. I know, it sucks.

If you didn't uninstall the Xposed modules the uninstall Xposed that could be your issue right there. Try uninstalling everything root then try again.

Well, at this point, I have done a factory reset several times. No root, nothing installed.
Knox keeps giving me a notification that it's blocking a process... I can download the update and start the install process. Once the phone reboots and the AT&T splash screen comes up, the progress bar will start and get to about 20%, then the phone will restart, then boot normally. Once booted, it will go to the Update page and then say that the installation was interrupted.
What... the... heck... I thought a factory reset restored the phone to like how it was from the factory? I notice my keyboard is the old version, too. When I bought the phone, I had the updated keyboard with punctuation for long-key presses.
Any insights?

Factory reset just wipes your data and cache. It will not reinstall the system files. When you rooted you directly modified some of your system files via root access. Simple solution however. Follow these steps as mentioned before by theorioles33 using Odin and Heimdall. Takes about 10 mins (maybe 30 if its ur first time) Follow every step to the T and when ur back to stock try the OTA. Good Luck!

[Q] I factory Reset and need some help

I previously rooted successfully based on the thread by TEKHD.
I had to factory reset afterwards and, since I have done that, the playstore fails to really work and download apps. It may download 1 and then stop and they are all just sitting in the queue....I have tried clearing cache/data on the playstore app and even removing my google account and then adding again. Anyone know what may be going on?
Also - does rooting disable system updates? I went to check if there were any updates and it said since I had a modified system it was a nogo - which I assume is fine.
Thanks!

I think all you need to do is to go into twrp recovery and to a factory reset.
After doing that the play store and everything else should work just find.
After the phone reboots and goes to the home screen reboot it one more
time and then see if the play store works properly for you.

This is different than a factory reset from standard means in the phone itself?

yes, in the phone itself, be sure to copy any private stuff from internal
sdcard to external sdcard or to your computer.
The internal factory reset will format your internal sdcard but it will
not touch the external sdcard.
Good luck!

AT&T S6 - OTA 5.1.1 downloads, but when its reboots to install update, it fails

immediately after boot splash, it says
Installing..
for a few seconds, then says
Failed
then
0%
then
1%
then it says update failed and reboots.
i had some apps disabled first try, enabled them, but it still failed.
any tips?
If you are rooted, or have changed any CSC settings, OTA updates will failed. If you are completely set on updating to 5.1.1, I would Odin back to stock of whatever version you are running now and OTA to 5.1.1. But be warned that if you are rooted now, you probably will lose root forever.

Interesting. The only other suggestion I have if you're unrooted and all of your apps and services are enabled is to make sure you have at least 3.00 gigs of space available before you try to update. I've seen that be a problem before.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
I have over 4GB free... I checked that. Could that still be too little?
I had the same problem. Then I tried updating the previously disabled applications in the play store. After they updated, I attempted the download again, and this time the installation worked as expected.
I'm having this issue as well. I did a factory reset knowing I was rooted. Tried 3 times (very annoying that it re-downloads every time, by the way).
Of course, I can't Odin without a rom to flash and ATT is so anal about giving up their factory roms.
I've also tried Smart Switch to apply the update after the 3 failed attempts. No dice, smart switch doesn't think an update is available.

Hmm.. Yeah, it failed for me 2-3 times in a row... I kept kicking the date out 24 hours to allow me to download it again... I think when I finally got it to work I was on Friday the 2nd of Oct. Other things that I did before that was clear system cache, cleaned up about 2 more gig of space (was at 5 gb free initially, got it to around 7 gb) and then enabled all my disabled apps and updated them. Could have just been dumb luck, or combination of multiple things....

YES I FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK!
it had nothing to do with apps, I tried with 3gb free, fail, 4gb free fail, but i went in and cleared all apps cache which was 7gb (somehow) i tried again and it worked!!!
so if you get this error, make sure you have at least 7 or 8gb free! it should go smoothly

I have 14gb free and it still isnt working for me...tried 4x and it keeps failing. Downloads perfectly fine but when i go to install it does the same thing it's been doing for everyone else. Don't know whats going on this has never happened before - i am on stock.
Update checklist:
1) Enable and update all apps. Clear app cache.
2) Safe mode (hold vol- during boot sequence)
3) Samsung Smart Switch
4) Flash with Odin (either at Best Buy or yourself) to OF4 (5.0.2 then update, or directly to 5.1.1)
If you were rooted, either use Samsung Smart Switch to upgrade, flash with Odin to OF4 or do a factory reset (make sure you don't re-install SuperSU) before upgrading.

Why do we need to enable and update all apps when the update is still failing for users who do not have any apps disabled? I do not want to take the time and space to enable & update all my disabled apps if it is still not going to work. :/
It's worked for some guys in the past. Didn't work for me either. I had to reflash the phone at best buy to OF4 before the update worked properly.

What worked for me
Hey, I had the same issue. I'd download the update, try to install it and it would crash and reboot.
What stopped my update from working was the fact that I had my developer's settings on. I tapped on the build number 7 times to open up developer's settings and disable the NuPlayer (because it made my snapchat stories lag and skip around). In order to get the update to work, I went to Settings>Device>Apps>App Manager>Settings>Clear Data. After clearing the data, the option for developer's settings wasn't available (unless I enable it again of course) and I was able to install the update just fine.
Hope I helped.

OxygenOS 7.1.1 Open beta3: Immense battery drain

Situation is pretty worse here with Google App and Android System eating everything.
I have installed Open Beta zip with sideload.
No root, No custom kernel, No exposed/Tweaks
Can someone help me here?
try clearing the cache of your phone from TWRP or stock recovery. That should help. I am also using OOS Open Beta 3 and have gotten great battery standby as well as SOT. So, I am thinking there could be some app using your resources in the background or such. Also, check out details about process with BBS or GSAM Battery monitor if you want to go deeper.
Hope this helps!

It is the google app alone. 42m CPU is way too much. Try wiping data for it.
All those that think the beta sucks needs to look at their extra installed apps and maybe a factory reset. Nothing but excellent battery on OOS 7.1.1 beta 3. (though I don't use social media).
47 hours and 5.25 SOT @15% left!!!

agreed. i also had clocked 46 hours + 2.45 hours SOT with 30% remaining still so yeah the OOS OB3 is also good with battery life.
So now, I have tried factory reset.
I went to 4.0.2
I tried to disable Google backup& Wifi - Bluetooth scanning.
Tried to re-flash clean Open Beta 3 again.
Nothing really worked for me.
Should I return my phone?
Anything that can help me to act my battery in better way? I am hardly going to 4 hrs SOT. I see people with 8 hrs SOT in battery thread. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with my device?

I did it twice.
I used sideload method to flash it.
Once installed bluespark TWRP and flashed dalvic/cache/system/data
Installed Open Beta 3
Not working quite good.
My phone is 4 days old only.

By default, when we setup device, it has Google Account Sync on. Also Backup Appdata and settings etc to Google servers is ON too.

Hey man try this
I'd recommend doing a clean flash and then NOT installing any root stuff. Also install as new device.
If the phone still acts up, I'd assume it's for some reason hardware related.

Having some serious notification alert problems with Android 10 on sprint s10

Many of my apps have stopped generating notification alerts, including Google Voice, Ebay and Samsung's built-in Calendar app. For no rhyme or reason, I randomly get a barrage of past notification alert sounds all at once and they are all from earlier in the day. Additionally, I do not receive any notifications that Google Voice has a text message waiting for me to read until I manually open up the Google Voice app. The same goes for manually opening up any other app: notifications suddenly start appearing in my notifications bar. This never used to be a problem in Android 9 OS. It all started happening when my carrier pushed out the Android 10 update. Is there really not a solution to this problem? I asked Samsung support and they told me that all they could do was reset my phone. I believe resetting a device to complete factory should NOT be the first solution offered.
You have 3 choices:
1) clear cache in recovery - may or may not help
2) data factory reset in recovery - will more than likely fix it
3) flash the stock firmware in Odin - will definitely fix it, but will also wipe the phone

Currently testing out option 1. So far, its working correctly for a day. I hope it is the fix...
Check the battery optimization and try to lock the apps in in task manager. still not perfect but for some apps it does the trick.

Hmm. So I looked in Device Care > Memory section and there was a place where I could add apps that shouldn't be memory monitored (maybe it was closing it out being in the background too long?). I did this today so I will have to check back in a week to see if it fixes it. If not, then I really have to just do a data recovery reset
