Apologies in advance for the long post but I try to be thorough
When the latest and greatest came out with his first Eclair build I was quick to install it and loved it, until my battery was trashed inside 12 hours at least. After waiting and testing all successive tests I noticed that 3G was poor up until about test4 for me so I was getting by using 2G for the most part. Test5 seemed to bring 3G back to life for me, test6 and test7 work fine for the most part too. To say I'm amazed at the work guys like Cyanogen can do with our frankly ancient (in technology terms) phones is a severe understatement.
With the basic information out of the way I have noticed a problem with all Twitter apps which indicates to me it isn't Twitter so much as a background data problem. I had three separate apps all set to poll at 15 minute intervals and then timed it. After 30 minutes I had no updates but that isn't unusual as I don't follow a lot of chatty people. As it was a test I specifically woke the phone and after unlocking I notice the 3G data coming in and then BAM... Twitter updates. Opening the program it said the Tweet was from 4 minutes ago so it should have been picked up by the second polling but wasn't. Only waking the phone pulled the update in.
This is very similar to the issue I and some others had with previous test builds where 3G would fail repeatedly and then start to work briefly before stopping again. Unfortunately this time it seems that 3G works a lot better so it's been hard to determine if a similar loss of data for a period is causing this or something else. The only other reason I suspect data issues is that sometimes I can open the Market and it will stay blank until I go Home then relaunch the Market which seems to prompt it to load. It will also sometimes tell me in various apps that there's a network error (data) and to retry or cancel. Retrying works so it's a really annoying intermittent issue, the worst to pin down.
This isn't so much about problems affecting Twitter but any background app that relies on interval polling. I don't know what sort of things to check beyond trying 2G only and doing the same test (doing that after I finish this message) but if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'm more than willing to give them a go.
My Note has started crashing regurlaly, I have had it since release and have a lot of software on it. I am not sure when it started happening but it is definatley getting worse as time goes on.
Is there any log file or event browser that can be installed to tell me what is causing the problem?
When I say crashing I mean literally crashing dead not a force close. I either find it in my pocket turned off and then have to hold the power button for an age to turn it on or sometimes it is sat on the desk and I suddenly hear the noise it makes when it re boots.
Any suggestions for finding out what the problem is that don't involve uninstalling software until the problem goes away?!
Thanks
Have you tried better battery stats? It gives a list of processes that have been running.
Definitely strange - do you have an anti-virus program you can run to see if it can help?
That sounds like a Sod (Sleep of Death) issue that's been reported many times b0t with no definitive solution of yet..
Some said changing modem helped, others with changing kernel or even ROM but no consistent solution across all users
Try to fix permissions through advenced menu in recovery but am afraid there is not much I can help with

Omfg, I don't think your alone cause I have the exact problems at times when the note just freezes up and you have to manually boot up...lets hope the upcoming pics update will solve this ongoing problem... I'm getting this about 3-4 times a week

it is starting to make the phone a liability as I keep finding it turned off in my pocket!
Is there no software that will produce a crash log of some sort?

this is driving me nuts. The phone is unusable.... is there no possible solution??
At this point I will try anything. It crashed during the night on Thursday, didn't restart and so there was no alarm and I was late for work!
Please post your current configuration Kernel, Anti Virus program if any, undervolting, overclocking ?
By any chance are you using easy task killer... if you are just change the auto optimize to nothing - I did that and it stopped sleeping...if your problem is persisting then you could just do a factory reset and use default settings...

My note recently started crashing as well, whenever i turn on my mobile data plan or the wifi it will crash right away
However this is ironic because when ever i put my mobile in charging mood than i have no problems at all.
So im thinking ,is this the battery problem or the software problem?

battery problem.Try to see what is the output of ur battery in full charge by messure it with electric potension meter (sry for bad english).
If the meter say less than 1850mAh in full charge than u need a new battery.
I'm coming from the S3 and never had any problems with this, but on the S5 Pandora gives occasional hesitations (real quick skips) whenever I let it play with the screen off. It might happen 2 to 10 times per song, just depending. Sometimes I can go a while without it happening, but can't figure out anything that's different. It does not seem to depend on signal strength at all, as it happens in areas with good coverage. I thought maybe it has to do with the cpu being throttled down when the screen is off, but I'm not sure...but if so, I would think others would be having the same thing happen. Anyone have any ideas?
Uninstall app named 'adapt sound'
Or if you aren't rooted, just disable that app via the app manager. Please ask if you need further detail , I'll gladly assist.
I appreciate the suggestion, but after testing out quite a bit with "adapt sound" disabled, it seems like this isn't really making a difference.
I also should add that I'm usually streaming via an aux cable. After further testing, it seems that maaaybe toggling from the higher to lower quality audio makes a little bit of difference, but still doesn't eliminate the problem. Also, not sure why higher quality audio would be an issue given the strength of my LTE signal when this is happening...
Any other suggestions...
Are you not rooted/not willing to? I used a friends phone (not rooted) to test disabling adapt sound, they were having this same problem. Unfortunately disabling it didnt really change anything, to my surprise. I rooted the phone and fully uninstalled the app, and what do you know, the stuttering went away.
Now there could be a debate here about correlation vs causation, i have no clue how or why this happen(s). Just that it seemed to fix it for 2 phones ive personally dealt with.
I will find the discussion i previously read which singled out 'adapt sound' as culprit & see if there are other suggestions,
I cant believe no one else has anything to contribute
I am rooted but had tested your suggestion out by just disabling adapt sound from the application manager. I'll try completely uninstalling it though and test some more.
Another thing Pandora does is occasionally freeze upon opening after I've used it a few times since a reboot (it'll play, but everything in the app is frozen and the system will warn the app has become unresponsive). So I have to reboot to fix. With the stuttering and this, I had kind of decided Pandora just has problems running on 4.4.2.
Anyway, I'll report back after more testing, but would still welcome comments or suggestions.

I saw posted somewhere else that someone found out that if they turned off adblocking in luckupatcher it fixed it, so do you have luckypatcher with adblocking enabled or adaway? Give disabling that a shot if so and report back.

I never was able to resolve the hesitations, despite having tried various combinations of disabling system apps like Adapt Sound and MusicFX. I also did not have any ad blocking installed. I was also having both Pandora and Spotify freeze and act wonky right after starting them up, which required a reboot to fix. That problem was more regular, and so I eventually narrowed it down to the fact that it would happen after every time I used the stock mobile hotspot. I was unable to resolve the issue any other way other than flashing back fresh to stock, rerooting, and reinstalling all my apps. Now everything seems to be working, and I think it may have resolved the occasional hesitations too - been listening a couple days and it hasn't been happening like it was before. Anyway, I went ahead and posted about the link between mobile hotspot and my issues with Pandora and Spotify here:

To all Nokia 8 users, have you ever had any issues that sometimes your Nokia 8 starts to freeze seconds and then restart by itself? It doesn't happen once but multiple times. It happens sometimes when you are trying to do something like playing game or opening Google play app. However, since booting to OS and if you leave it be until like many hours later, it won't go sudden restart. Only when you do activities, will it suddenly restart.
Why is this happening? The ROM and app are the same as it be and didn't happen long ago. It only happens like two days ago.
I hope users of Nokia 8 experts have solution to this issue. Thank you
EDITED: I found out the real cause. Although this is hypothesis, it seems GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES is the culprit. I noticed it just force closes and then whenever I launched any apps that have something to do with play services, it just goes into bootloop.
Can anyone confirm this?

I don't have this problem but you can try to clear the cache and data of play services in application setting.

Did that. Didn't work. Only by freezing this Google play services, does the Bootloop stop happening. The consequences are the any app that uses Google play services like YouTube will not run well.
Also, I tried installing Gapps using TWRP flashing via zip. But that doesn't solve the problem. Why.....
I've came from a Nexus 5x and a Nexus 6p and the word bootloop gives me goosebumps
Does your phone reboot when you open the stock camera ?

No. Never open Stock camera. Just any apps that have something to do with google play services.
Do you use sd card? because i have the same problem here
I got not only the same issue but also the problem with sounds after update to Pie. And i realize when i put my phone in the charger, issues stop; when i put it out issues happen again and again...

I got the same problem. When my phone's battery drops to 60% or lower it restarts whenever I spend some time surfing the net or opening up the stock camera, with the addition of removing my fingerprint scan every time it restarts that way. However, these issues immediately stop when I plug my phone to its charger. I thought the security update fixed these but sadly it didn't.
I have the exact same issue.
I got my Nokia 8 (ta-1012) one month ago and it occurred about 10 times.
It occurs frequently when I'm using the UI too much, for example, lower volume and hiring it too fast, touching many UI elements and swapping quickly between apps etc..
It freezes for like 10seconds and it restarts quickly, that is, just the UI.
I'm on Oreo BTW. Can anyone confirm having that issue on nougat ?
This happens with me..on camera and games

I solved my problem, i brought my phone to Nokia care center and they replaced my battery with the new one. Thats battery problem, thats all.
May I ask what was the cost of battery?
I just downgraded to Nougat 7.1.1 and for now, the issue of restarting is gone !
Please confirm that if someone is on Nougat.
Even i have the same problem for my nokia 8. Is there any solution to rectify it.

I was on Pie, from where I downgraded to Oreo the problem persisted, then I downgraded to Nougat and the issue is the same, I play a game or video it starts to stutter, even if the video is streaming online or downloaded and being played from memory/rom. I initially thought it was software issue but it seems that I was wrong, I wasted too many hours and bandwidth just downgrading. Now the issue is that I have voided my warranty by unlocking the bootloader, what are my options? as someone said they have gotten the battery replaced. How much does it costs? I am 100% convinced that its battery related issue as when I plug my phone in the charger then all goes fine.
Using Nokia 8 (TA-1004)
My phone started having the same trouble a couple of months ago, it all started with the camera app. Now things are so bad that as sOon as I enter security pin and the home screen appears, the phone restaerts...and it keeps happening until I plug in the charger. This happens even when the battery is 95%. Can't even touch it!!!
I was so excited to get this phone, although everyone told me not to... but I was in love with it... and "Grief is the Price we pay for Love", right?
How could the battery get so weak with average use in just 9-10 months? And how could so many users start experiencing the same problem all at once?
Any help shall be appreciated!
To be sure about your battery , First put your mobile on safe mode for 7 days and notice if restart will happen again or not? also notice battey consumption and charging rapidly mode.-
I was having same problem for last few months , when I put my nokia 8 on safe mode (Restart while pressing down volume button) ,the Restarting problem did not happen even once for 7 days, So I discovered that it is software problem that cause system to hang and restart and consume battery.. Then I discover that " many months ago on android Oreo" I was making changes in Devoloper mode To stop and prevent application from running in background , This was nice on oreo but on Android Pie it cause conflect and system hang with some application that refuse to stop causing system restart.. All problem had gone after allowing application to work again in background normally .. Till now for about one month no single restart >> Also , Rapidly charging mode working nice but unfournatly battery consumption Still high.
I have the same problem with Nokia 8 . Sudden restart and issue with sound at times. Anyone knows the reason, and the fix for it would be appreciated

i have the same problem and after having knowledege about it,i came to a point that this is a software issue as it contains bugs. .
I have the same problem too .
I noticed it a couple of months ago but It could've start long before and I just didn't noticed it.
With Oreo I'm quite sure it never happened.
Reboots randomly once a day (more or less) it happened just 10 min. ago,the phone was on the desk close to me so I had the opportunity to observe it "live"...it was in standby and no app was apparently running .
Quite strange anyway,I'm pretty sure it's a software issue;the battery seems still in health (no unmotivated drain).
Nothing dramatically serious anyway, just strange...there must be a way to fix it...

Following your advice,I just tried changing at the voice" app/backgroud processes" in Developer mode from "standard" to " allow max 4 processes";I don't know what's intended for "standard" value but something should change...let's see and x fingers
Good day everyone, I'm having a really frustrating problem since I got my phone a month ago. I hope I can get some help here.
From day 1 I've had issues with network on my WiFi. No issues connecting to it, no issues using the internet, let me explain. I first noticed it on MIUI Themes. That was the first thing I went into after setting up my phone. It kept saying "can't connect to network". I figured it was a bug and will be fixed in the 12.5 update (spoiler alert: it didn't). Then I started to notice during setting up of my accounts, discord, reddit, etc. that the login was incredible slow the first time. It would just keep loading when I hit next. Not long after, I downloaded a game and it refused to update saying "can't connect to server". I had to start the process with my data then switch back to WiFi. For clarity, once I'm in the game itself there's no issues, the stability never drops, I never lag, etc.
It became truly evident it wasn't isolated incidents when I would open one of my online shopping apps. It loads the main screen instantly but when I switch the tab to see notifications, the page would load but the notifications would take up to 30 seconds to load. If I clicked on it, the next page would take another 30 seconds to load. Since I've used this app on my previous phone/ipad on the same WiFi I could tell there was something wrong. It should be instant. I opened up MI Community app and I kid you not, it must have taken me 10 - 15 minutes to create an account with all the loading/lag. Every single time I open the app, it takes at least 40 seconds to a minute to load with other pages lagging as well.
I started this long process of trying everything I could find that talks about it which was not much and usually about older phones. I tried everything I could find except factory reset (some have said it doesn't fix it after trying it themselves). I tried all the WiFi adjustments, traffic mode, off private DNS, developer mode options, and obviously reset networks/router/reboot multiple times.
After spending a couple of hours trying to find every mention of this whether it's Youtube, websites or Reddit and trying them (I would switch them back to default after testing the suggestions as they didn't work), my PC started giving WiFi problems. It NEVER gives problems but I figured maybe it was due to the turning on/off router multiple times. I was so frustrated, I was like, screw this I'm done.
I restarted my PC and switched to my PS4 (which runs on the same WiFi with no issues ever in 3 years). As my PS4 booted up, I picked up my phone to check the delivery status on my shopping app and BAAM! For the first time since I downloaded the app, my notifications appeared instantly like it should, the next page loaded immediately. I was like, hold up... I went into MI Community app and BOOM! it loaded immediately, I was shook. One final test, MIUI Themes that has never worked properly since day 1 with its constant "can't connect to network". BLAAM! Every page, instant, clean sweet speed. It felt like a whole new phone, like the new phone that I was supposed to feel all along.
I enjoyed a good 6 hours of bliss, constantly checking my shopping status just as an excuse to enjoy witnessing the speed. He giveth and then he taketh away and as luck would have it, there was a power outage midday. When the power was back on and the WiFi was up, we were back to the suffering. I tried to restart my PC as that was the key trigger and it worked for about a minute and then was the end of it. No amount of shutting down / restarting PC/router fixed it again.
There's something blocking the connection between my router and phone I believe. I figured the initial restart PC fix stopped the connection to the PC and gave the priority to my phone, if you will. That's rubbish I know because my WiFi runs on 4 other devices and never lags.
I'm no tech expert, in fact, I'm the opposite of that, it's embarrassing. I hope y'all can see something I'm unaware of and guide me. I'm certain the phone isn't defective and my WiFi is fine on every other device not to mention it ran flawlessly for 6 hours while other devices were also using the same WiFi.
If you've read this far, thank you very much. I apologize the post is very long, I wanted to get everything in so it paints a clear picture of the issue. I'll add a TLDR just incase.
TLDR: WiFi issues from day 1 in 2/3 of apps mostly with initial connections. 1 month later a chance restart of my PC fixed it. Power outage later that day, problem returned.
T
