Hi guys, I'll go straight to the point: I was thinking of exchanging my Xperia S for an Xperia T, paying about 30€. I have some questions for you owners, hoping you'll take a couple of minutes to answer me
T is more powerful, no doubt about that (actually I do have a doubt: does it have dual channel RAM like Xperia V or is it the same RAM as Xperia S? ). What I'm particularly interested in is:
- Camera -> Better? Worse? Same? Apart from those 13 MegaPixels, Sony sensors are always quite good, the problem is how Sony optimizes the software part (sometimes awfully, unfortunately). So... would I regret switching from S to T?
- Battery -> Neither T nor S have great battery life, this is actually well known. But how's battery life of Xperia T comparing to the one of Xperia S? I'm actually satisfied (enough) with my S... would I regret buying this T?
- Bugs & Problems -> Is there any terrible bug that I should be aware of? And in that case would I be able to solve it with a little modding?
- Last question: would you recommend me to change my S with a T for just 30€, or do you find it useless?
Thank you for your attention, hope to read you soon
I've got the T, my brother has the S, so I#ve had the chance to use both (at least a bit)

About even. 1MP more doesn't matter (you won't notice such a small increase in pixels. A camera needs to have at least 25% more pxels to show a visible increse) - and since most of us don't print and most screens still show only 2MP the pixel increase is irrelevant.

Also: about even. You can get through a day with both with restricted usage, but heavy usage will drain both fast

Not really a bug but an annoyance: the home/back buttons are softbuttons that take up screen real estate unlike the S, which has those buttons as sperate touch areas

I wouldn't upgrade. Maybe, if I knew I could sell the S for more than 30€ but otherwise: no. Not worth it
Camera MP count

I agree a 1 MP increase is irrelevant. Unless the increase goes in hand with a bigger pixel size, which usually means a bigger sensor. Even the opposite is true. Higher pixel count means higher pixel density which mean higher digital noise which means more software noise suppression which means more loss of detail!
The really relevant data would be the sensor size, and secondly pixel density. The same sensor size with 5 MP count would potentially deliver a far better quality, especially in low light conditions.
The useless counting of MP is the prove of marketing powers. Even when using the build in digital zoom, anything more than 10 MP in a hand phone or compact camera is looking good on the package description, but delivers no value to the consumer. Professionals seldom need more than 20 MP. They have much better sensors in their cameras, which are multiple the size of the toy sensor which is in a phone. The right feature in the Xperia would be a switch to connect two or three pixels to one unit, that would be a real improvement.
To the phone, wait for the next good offer. The differences are not earth shaking.

Yeah the biggest reason I could see to upgrade is the increased screen size it's a lot nicer to use then a 4.3 and maybe the build of the LT30A is one is one of the things that made me fall in love with this phone when I was buying it but other then that and maybe the small apps I can't see a reason to upgrade just wait till something better comes out.
Thanks for your replies. I actually specified that I know those "13 MegaPixel" means nothing: that's why I was asing users about the camera quality, because I can't just rely on that number
Apart from that, I'm just willing to change because the Xperia T design is one of my favourite ones, plus it will still receive support from Sony. I'll probably go through a serious change in march/april 2014, but for now I'm just a bit tired of the S (though I'm quite satisfied with it).
Thank you anyway for your opinions, hope to read more from you

Actually 2 words : "Under investigations"
From a development point of view it would make much more sense to take the T over the S. The T is getting an official 4.3 update (maybe even 4.4) and the S isn't. Developers are currently doing fantastic things with the T from solid stock ROMs like Hybrid and Miui to super fast and smooth 4.4 ROMs such as OmniRom. They are doing so much on old kernels and software. Imagine what they'll be able to do once the T gets 4.3 or 4.4.
hi , i have android 4.3 on my Sony V and the only problem is the drain battery fast and i think it`s a problem that never solved by rom
anyway , i see on many site that different versions of 4.4 kitkat comes for Sony V and it`s a good news that i can have last the android version on my phone
but if you upgrade to this do you see any specific option or optimization on this rom ? i mean is there any real benefits to take a time and risk for upgrade ?
something like optimize core or less space or more free ram ??
and there are different versions of 4.4 Rom for Sony V , like AOKP or cyanogenmod and ...
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=tsubasa
which one is better and have less bugs ?
is this a right time for update or it`s soon and i must wait for fixing android 4.4 bugs ?

Well...any custom kk rom will perform like 5 times faster than any stock version of rom for our device, but the battery life and camera quality will be worse. You won't have multitasking problems and apps closing in background like on stock roms but you might get reboots or some other problems with most of the roms. I decided to go back to stock 4.1.2 because the battery on our phone sucks so I'd rather get an hour of screen on time more than better performance. So it's up to you to try out and decide what you prefer.

Most of them are pretty much the same, some just offer more features than others basically. Unofficial LiquidSmooth Rom worked best for me and was most stable but most people prefer Carbon or NeoWave. You just have to read through the topics to see what other people are saying or try them out yourself. I just wish I had done a backup before unlocking bootloader and flashing the first custom rom because now I don't have those DRM keys and my camera quality sucks even though I'm on stock 4.1.2 now. I know that Xperia Z's camera gets f***d up after unlocking bootloader but it seems it affected my Xperia V too. :S

It might be just my imagination xD Maybe the camera is normal but seems bad to me at the moment, I haven't really tried it outdoors yet. I attached some pics here and you tell me if it's normal (like on your phone) or bad.
Btw...does your camera keep focusing even when you're not holding the capture button? Because mine does and I don't remember if it did before
I couldn't attach 4 pictures in one post so I divided it in two
Well your pics seems nice to me if take by Sony V
anyway now you mentioned i remember that one time i take a photo with my Huawei G650 dad phone and the quality of this pics is very better than my Sony V 12 Mega Pixel
after that i leave my phone camera and use small Digital camera at all .
i have always different phone of Sony , and the quality of Camera never satisfied me , they just give them more Mega pixel or resolution but the quality of picture never be like a real camera
only thing i love is FUll HD video recording that have a nice quality

Qualcomm Assertive Display 1.0 port from Z3 23.4.A.1.232
Qualcomm said:
Assertive Display is a new technology which makes the display adaptive to its viewing environment. By employing sophisticated video processing algorithms based on research into human vision, the mobile display is continuously adjusted to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience in all conditions, including those in which content would be otherwise unwatchable.
The result is that the multimedia experience is maintained everywhere, even in bright sunshine. Assertive Display-enabled devices typically consume at least 30% less display power, leading to significant battery life extensions. Viewing comfort is maximized by ensuring that the display is neither too dark nor too bright for the eyes.
Assertive Display has been featured in devices from smartphones by manufacturers such as Sharp and Huawei to HDTVs by Bang & Olufsen.
Qualcomm Technologies supports Apical’s latest, third-generation Assertive Display technology, which operates with minimal software load and very low power consumption for even the highest display resolutions.

TL;DR
It lowers display power consumption and improves view-ability in direct sunlight.
The Z5 supports a newer version (1.3 vs 1.0) of the calibration system, but I don't know, if the Z2 is capable. Since this is SOC dependent stuff, I'd rather stay as close to the Z3 as possible.
Install procedure:
1. This mod touches /system/build.prop, so make a backup just in case.
2. Flash the attached file in recovery.

Since users reported this works on the Nexus 6, I'm quite sure it will work on custom roms too. I did test it only with stock/stock based ROMs.

You should get significantly more SOT. Also the screen appears brighter. I do notice the effect (just like Xreality, Vivid), but the best test would be to compare two Z2 side by side.
Because my z2 is on 23.4.A.1.232. So, I have a question. Is stock Z2 23.4.A.1.232 included this mod?

Good to know mate.
Since Google Pixel 3 launched, the modder tried to port the camera app to the another Android devices, I'm so excited about it. But unfortunately until now the app not coming even to single Sony devices. So, anyone's here please make it available for Sony Xperia X Performance.

I wonder though: which version of that port is suitable for X Performance?
Presumably need to find the device that has the same SoC and camera
With kind regards.
UPD #1: GCam_5.3.015-Pixel3Mod-Arnova8G2-v4Beta1 - this version is working for X Performance, testing further on Oreo 8.1 AOSP with kernel v4.9
UPD #2: also installed HEVC+SloMo GCam (Magisk) from the OnePlus 3/3T section via Magisk, the app does not crash or anything, safe to use I guess....
UPD #3: HDR+ is not working, maybe need some tweaking in the Advanced section of Settings
UPD #4: At the very first switcing to 60 fps mode the app reports a crash; after a re-launch the mode persists as set, video records fine, no idea if it is actually 60fps
Anyways, test out, guys!
P.S. HDR+ engine seems funky for the device: the camera snaps the original picture just fine, but the processing messes the picture up in the end. Maybe should talk to the developer of the port.

All simply because gcam is ridiculous compared to stock. Much more noise, smoothing of the photo, overesposition, mediocre quality in night photo ... The tests were done with GCAM 5 which is in a discussion on the forum...
In my opinion the reduction of raw noise is incompatible with gcam. The photos taken with gcam have almost the same quality as with open camera.

gcam is not necessarily better it may change for low-end smartphones but in high-end smartphones the results were worse with gcam than the Stock camera. gcam will work like any open camera and will never have the code and therefore the optimizations related to the camera. on the screen of the smartphones it looks good but on a larger screen we directly see the loss of quality with gcam

Maybe because these ports are done via the good will and graciousness of the developers, who often do this for free, on their own time? Don't be immature about this. It takes work, and just because your particular phone isn't supported doesn't mean that people aren't trying to get it to work.

Can't force any developer to support an specific device. Like some people already mention, there isn't really an improvement using gcam over the stock camera (maybe there is certain circumstances that get better results, but nothing really special). Wow. Ok thanks for the info. Everyone says mobiles need API 2 support and i agree but i feel every Sony flagship supports that API 2 thing. I am saying this because i used a GCAM mod for my old Xperia X dual stock OS that actually worked. But the MOD doesn't had the Night Sight feature as it's an old version. i luckily somewhere found that MOD. It's a long time ago and there after i tried many GCAM versions and none of them worked. They just not opened even for a second.

Older gcam versions work. Even on XZP stock, gcam 4(?) was working. For the Xperia 1/5 we have Gcam 5 working. Either wait, donate to the dev to help support them, or create your own port.
