Well, I think I have finally managed to kill my PDA2k. It was a late night and long story short, it got wet (but not too wet).
The next day, I plugged it into a usb power supply (car charger) and it would begin to boot (displayed the info at bottom right screen) but would fail when it tried to load the OS. I waited for a bit a re-tried a few times. Then the red light came on (top right led) and it no longer even attempts to boot. I disassembled it and made sure everything was dry and clean and it still just turns on the red light and does not attempt to boot.
So, does anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions?
I'm going to go ahead and be prepared for the worst and assume that it is in fact, done. What should I do with it? I do have an insurance policy on it (via State Farm) but I'm not sure if that is covered.
Anybody know of some cool DIY projects to make use of the parts? Or just fun ways to say "farewell" to a phone?
Well sweet moogly googly, it started working again!!! I just left it on the charger for a while and the red light went off...then I hit reset and it booted just fine!
Its like Christmas came about 15 days early...I hadn't made a backup of my data in a LONG time.
If anyone looks over my posts history, they'll see that there have been several "close calls." But I guess this is just a testament to HTC and their ability to build "resilient" hardware.
Well all is not well in PDA2K land...again.
The last post was a bit premature as it is having some serious issues. First, I cannot communicate (hear/talk) on any phone calls. I can make and receive calls fine, but no audio coming or going (despite sounds and recording working). Second, I am unable to connect via ActiveSync (or even mtty), so I can't reflash to see if that is the issue. Third, although it is becoming less frequent, the device will just power off and the red led will come on. After a few seconds the light will go off and it can be restarted. Last, the power button does not work at all. So even when it is working, there is no way to turn off the screen (without using a program).
One other related note: when you do a reset it loses the date/time.
All in all, it seems as though it is very rapidly becoming a glorified paperweight. Any ideas? If not, I'm back to deciding how to send it to "gadget heaven."
Would anyone has any use for the hardware?
This just happened to me, and after some searching here and elsewhere I found that it seems to be an unsettlingly common issue. What was worse is the only solutions anyone had was RMA/replacement. Well, I called HTC customer service and the woman I spoke to was very helpful
She told me that the charging mode may need to be reset and gave the following instructions.
1. Turn phone OFF
2. Let charge for AT LEAST 10mins even if it doesn't look like it's charging (mine DID show the new charging animation)
3. Press and hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN for AT LEAST 2mins. Anything less will not reset the charge mode.
4. After 2mins release the buttons and the phone should boot as normal.
My phone is now charging normally.
Thx for share

Is it supposed to be showing that HTC startup screen and like cycling through the beginning of an attempted reboot while I'm holding in the 3 buttons, or have I done it wrong every time?
Some notification will appear on the screen?
I hold the 3 buttons, and htc one is restarting continuously. 2 minutes and 30 seconds
And it did not work, still only charging power off.

Didn't work for me either.
I have to reboot to be able to charge with wall charger like it was before...
Thanks anyway:good:
I would put money down that the cause of this is those crappy usb ports my HD2 had exactly the same problem few years back and people realized it was the charging port getting rusted and shorting something in there causing the phone to act funny.
Time will tell...

Help please
Hello mates, I have a question about my HTC One.
yesterday my home screen start to rotate like im on a website or something. i know this is not normal because i have for 6 months now and know that home screen canr rotate. It doesnt matter really if the rotate function is turned off or on.
And then it stops and everything is ok..and later on again.
I tried to reset my phone to factory and same thing after 20 min, but i noticed that happens after CAR app jumps out by itself without opening it.
And when i make a call i got speaker on automatically, like he thinks hes in a car mode. and i cant remove this app cause its custom built.
Also cant charge phone when in usb host mode appears often, then i reboot him and he charges.
I really dont know what can i do..anyone know something please help.
Thx in advance
Charging fix.
I was having the same problem with charging my HTC One. I contacted HTC and they told me to do the following which worked:
Step 1: Power off the device
Step 2: Press the Power button to initiate booting sequence and wait for the HTC logo to appear on the screen
Step 3: Press and hold the Volume Down button until entering OS
Step 4: You will notice that the device vibrates briefly during this process
Step 5: ‘Safe Mode’ wording will appear on the bottom left of the screen to confirm that device has entered safe mode.
After this safe mode start I restarted normally and no longer have issues charging the phone.
Cheers.

This one didn't work either (for me )...
I got it into Safe Mode and in SF didn't charge and after reboot not only lost settings and stuff but still got the USB Host mode error.
I guess I'll be returning to stock soon and try to send it for repair before warranty expires.
Thanks anyway...
I have the same exact issue - phone will not charge and I get error about usb host mode... So far this "somewhat" worked for me - I am able to charge phone anytime via wall charger > but unable to connect to USB / charge via USB.
1. Start charging via phone wall charger. ( it will not charge at this time )
2. Reboot Phone (press power and hold > reboot)
3. After reboot your phone should be charging just fine, but ONLY via wall charger.
If you try to charge via USB it will not work. If you try to charge it via wall charger after USB charge attempt - it will also not work anymore, you will need to complete steps 1-3 again....
obviously this is NOT a solution and i think I'm gonna send the phone to repairs....
bonus: to get data off phone, you can do steps 1-3 then use file manager to drop off files to a network share! I use ES File Explorer. Get your data off before sending it to repairs because they will 100% wipe all your ****. Customer service is pretty bad, they do not care about you or your data.
I have been suffering this issue on and off for the last 12 months on my HTC one. Usb host mode, car mode popping up, airplane mode, screen going between landscape and normal on home page.
Out of the blue my phone started charging normally again the other day but stopped again a few days later. Noticed the day it stopped I was charging overnight and had the alarm set. So though I'll try that again so switched phone off after setting alarm and plugged it in to charge. Phone woke up to start alarm and it was charging while switched on again.
Tried all the other solutions without success, will now not set alarm to go off while phone is charging.
Hope this helps some people.
This is a manufacturing issue. I had to send the phone for repairs to HTC, they changed the motherboard, a logic board and a flex cable. Phone now works perfectly and came with Hboot 1.56.
My phone has not been charging correct for 2 days now. It only charges in boot loader mode using Samsung galaxy s4 charger. The HTC and Verizon chargers I have flicker charge in boot loader mode. I have tried everything I have read on here and on other sites with no luck. I am s-off and rooted with teamwin recovery but since I can't hook the phone up to a PC I can't s-on and unroot to try to see if I can do a warranty exchange via Verizon's extended warranty.
Only charging when off

Tried doing this (and the other reboot, and safe mode, using different chargers, etc), to no avail... I am going to get the USB charge port fixed and see if that will do the trick. I'll update if it fixes it.
UPDATE: Phone died. Getting it checked out but through a regular place and not through HTC as that would take too long. I'll see what they determine to be the issue... Though it's not likely going to be a cheap fix...
UPDATE 2: Could not determine issue, and can't send into HTC as it is not under the 1 year warranty anymore. Tried contacting HTC Canada, still haven't got back to me. Phone is done as far as I'm concerned; I realize now that HTC uses the bulk of their precision work on the exterior and beauty is skin deep because this is pathetic if multiple people are having this issue. Got a Nexus 5 instead.
EDIT
Problem solved
I just started having this issue today.

Still Charges
I've been getting a notification with an explanation mark saying the phone will not charge and is in USB Host Mode. This message comes randomly. I haven't had an issue charging the phone but don't think I've tried while the message is up. I just close the message and it may come up a few hours later. Like I said, phone seems to work fine and has charged the few times since getting the phone 3 days ago.
This morning I noticed that my watch was restarting itself a few times while on charging dock, so I thought that there might be a new OTA. Then, when I'm about to leave, it just stay dead (it says disconnected on the phone too).
I tried long press (5, 8, almost a minute), nothing happens. When I placed it back onto the dock, it just show full battery icon and then nothing. I tried long-pressing the button while on the dock too, nothing...
I'm at loss here, if possible I'd like to avoid return (problematic, coz it is imported).

1. Hold the button until it starts vibrating, then keep holding until it turns off.
2. Press the button to turn it back on and then QUICKLY (as SOON as the LG logo shows), swipe from 11 o-clock to 5 o'clock (diagonally) on the screen to enter the bootloader.
3. Once you see the bootloader, tap > until the red text says RECOVERY MODE, then tap O to boot into recovery.
4. Once you see the green droid robot, tap the screen to bring up the recovery menu.
5. Swipe down until the factory reset option is highlighted, then press the button.
6. Swipe down until Yes is highlighted, then press the button.
7. Wait for the factory reset to complete.
8. Swipe up to highlight "reboot system now" in the recovery menu if it's not already highlighted and press the button to reboot.
9. Wait until the watch boots into the setup screen - this will take about 3x-5x longer than a normal boot, so be patient.
10. Set up the watch with your phone.

I would have done the following if the thing actually can boot in any way. It seemed that it was stuck at some point in the booting process and somehow went into a 'limbo' state?
Thanks for the complete description, but here's how it ended up to me: it seemed that the watch was in an ON state all the while this thing was happening. I waited about 12 hours, until it is seemingly out of juice completely. Then, putting it back to the charger turned it back on and boots properly. Hopefully it won't happen again to me, or I have to send it back to the seller, really...

How can I do the 2 step if the screen don't show any lg logo or any light at all?
By the way my phone says the watch is connected.
Please help
I have the same problem with my LG G Watch, it doesn't show LG logo, just showing charging and blinking with big battery logo while connected with charging cradle.
I keep it for 2 week to wait for battery drain, and again when I connect charging cradle it shows the same thing.
I guess there's something problem with hardware.
Anyone can guide me, how can i fix this.
Need help.
I just experienced the same issue. Leaving the watch to drain the battery does not help. Is there any other solution?
You're the man! Thanks for the step by step instructions! One thing I would add to your instructions would be to do all this while the watch is sitting on the charger. Seems like my watch didn't charge at all and when I tried to hold down on the button nothing happened until I did so with it sitting on the charger during the whole process. I just started to setup my watch and it's at 5% so that was definitely the case!
---------- Post added at 08:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:55 AM ----------
Do the whole process with the watch sitting on the charger. This worked for me like a charm. The reason it's not doing anything is because the watch can't charge until you reset to factory settings.

This happen to me once too. What is did was to just put the watch in the charger n long press the function button for about a min n it started up. For some reason the watch got stuck in a loop while it was charging over night. I have been experiencing a few strange bugs happen during the past few weeks. Such as watch zooming n not responding to touch control n watch not responding to turn wrist light up display.
My g watch also no stay "on" anymore, two days ago [battery was 57%] shuts down suddenly and since then I can not start this watch .
Tried everything, this anoying loop is killing me, if I put it for some time in the charger dock starts for a couple of seconds and shuts down [ sometimes shows starting 36 apps and after finish shuts down again]. Also for a couple of time I entered in recovery mode and reset and wipe, but from today I can not enter in bootloader anymore.
If stays on the charger not showing anything [ only if I kep the buton pressed for 30 sec start to blink the battery icon until I keep the button pressed.
Run out of methods, is something that I am not tried ? Keep all night on the charger , but the same litlle loop [ the watch is very hot on charger but I think is not charging].
Please some one can help me ?

OK,
Charging the LGR in bootloader mode worked but I am still having issues so now I am going to try to re-flash it.
If I leave the watch alone for a couple of hours and I put it in the charger, starts first time showing 36 apps and after it's shuts down. After that it starts for 2 or 3 times but only until those colored balls, then is dead again [ even if I leave it on the charger for all night ]. Also tried with 2.0 A and 1.0 A charger.
The worst is that I can not enter in bootloader mode anymore, when it starts on the LG icon I try in vain with my finger from 10.00 clock to 17.00 , the watch is not responding anymore to this command. Only when I put it on the charger and keep pressed the button for more then 30 seconds the battery icon is flashing, when I relese the button the battery icon disapears.
Very disapointed, I have to throw it in the garbage and I never will buy LG.
LG R watch fixed
mobiemi,
I got my watch back to working. First, delete all android wear apps from your phone do the same for the Android wear app. Next, clean the screen off (since you are having issues) then let it charge for a few minutes to an hour (even if it looks like its not charging it is). Once charge it might come back on all on its own (let it do so). After it tries twice it will not do it power on again (still let it sit for awhile longer). Next, take it off the charger and power the watch on and try to access the bootloader by swiping downward from 11 to 5 and perform a factory reset, put the watch back on the charger. Once done do a reboot and it will attempt to reset but might power off, don't panic mine did the samething. Finally let it sit on the charger awhile later it will come back on in factory reset mode, ready to connect to your phone. Let the watch sit to recharge before downloading the android wear app and connecting it back to your phone. FYI I did three times heres why- once I added an app it went back to having the same issue as before with restarting and dying. So word of advice do not install any apps. Google is working on a new update to fix the issue so be patient. I hope this helps!
Thank you for your detailed explanations, tried your method but dosen't work because I can not enter bootloader mode [ I think my watch has not enough power to start the bootloader ].
The screen is very clean and the watch not react at my command. I remember last week I was able to resurect once the watch with similar method like you, but now has not enough juice to start proper. When I put it in the charger show 1 second the battery icon, then starts with LG icon [ in vain try to enter bootloader ], once from 10 times starts, goes until starting 36 apps and shuts down [ when I left it for a period of time and is not that warm like when is lifted from charger ], but mainly not goes far then colored balls.
I have not another explanation for not entering the bootloader and why not going further than a few seconds. Left it 1 minute, half hour and also all night on the charger [ the watch get warmer ], with multiple charger and also from laptop usb.
My watch is slowly dying, only when I put it in the charger start for maximum 5 seconds and shuts down, after that I try again to start without charger [on the charger not starts at all ] and again after 4 seconds is dead. When starts the screen with LG icon did not react at all to finger touch , could not enter bootloader anymore[ lack of power ? ] I think in a couple of days is dead . Courious when is in the charger for longer period it gets very warm but in vain. Unfortunatelly I have no warranty.
I've had the same issue so I sent it in and I am patiently waiting to get it fixed. In the meantime they sent me a list of items they'll replace...
PCB assembly
Rechargeable battery
Cover assembly
LG2 (no idea what that's going to be)

I'm having the same problem like mobiemi. I'm trying your method without deleting all android apps in my phone since I wiped data and cache from my watch's recovery mode. Since it cannot connect to my phone due to not being able to boot properly, I don't think it's necessary to uninstall the apps from my phone. But I've been resetting and wiping data&cache from my watch but it's still doing the same thing. It shuts down on its own after "starting apps xx of xx". Sometimes it will boot till the colored dots and after that it will go blank and shuts down.
Yeah, I thought the same thing at first until I got it back up and running the first time and as soon as the old apps were sent back to the watch it started looping all over again. I was able to reinstall my apps after the latest android wear update. My LGR is currently working with apps and holding a charge longer than a day.

Hope is not true, unfortunately you are after me, after a while you can not enter either the bootloader . For two weeks I do nothing but I try to turn it on.
*If the button does not turn, I put in charger: starts 10 seconds goes out and turns back for another 30-40 seconds [colored balls], sometimes flashing until the 36 apps loaded, then goes off . I tried hundreds of times, placed in charger, power on from button, put back on charger, left and so on until going crazy.
**Because not enter bootloader I thought the touch it not works anymore, but by a miracle last week lit one minutes [came in white screen apps Starting 36] and went out, I powered by button and the screen shows the welcome screen, language, [responding to commands], unfortunately I was in another room and appeared on the screen put me in charge, until I got to the charger it faded again. From then I do not manage to get out of this deadly circle.
If someone manage to escape from this loop please help me with detailed steps.
So currently I can boot my phone and it displays the boot screen fine. Once its done loading though I just have black screen. Moto display still works and shows new notifications but if I try to unlock the phone its still just the black screen. I can hold down the power button and the power menu shows up fine. I tried clearing the cache but that didn't help. Before I do a factory reset I thought I might see if any one here had some ideas on solutions.
I have the latest 5.1 OTA update. My phone us unlocked, but not rooted. I tried to hook it up to my computer to see if I could at least grab my files off of it, but while it shows up on my computer I can't access any actual files or directories.
I've tried searching around, but I can't find anyone else with a similar issue. Last night my phone battery ran down to zero (and rather quickly compared to normal usage). I may have ****ed it up by trying to get it to boot and be usable while charging but with the battery only at 1% (I guess with the standard charger an in-use Moto X uses power faster than it can take it from the charger). I tried letting it charge for a few minutes and then letting it boot, but after a couple of minutes of use it would shut down again. I finally gave up and let it charge. I didn't really pay attention to its status, but in the middle of the night when I woke up I booted it before falling back to sleep. Not sure there's a connection to my issue and this or not.
Any ideas on what the cause might be or what I can try to do to remedy the issue without data loss?
Edit: I ended up just doing a factory reset and that worked. Admin can feel free to delete this thread if they want.
This sounds similar to the issue here:

This is a bug that needs to be reported to Motorola.
I am that guy from the second post, and I wasn't able to recover the phone. Connecting to PC did not do anything. I would like to ask: is it booting with the new boot animation? Or old one? Because mine showed old animation long after the update was sent out, so I'm thinking the update may have tried to apply and failed, thus breaking the phone. Should all efforts fail, your only bet is to boot into recovery (power + volume up when off, volume down, volume up in the option menu (to select recovery), then hold power when Android robot appears, and while holding it down, press the vol up button once to make the list of recovery options appear. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset, press power to select, then find Yes to confirm. Good luck!
so this just happened
i came back from a trip and took a whoooole lot of photos. when i came back my battery went to zero and device switched off. i charged the phone to 10-20% and switched it on and all i see is blank screen only moto display is working and power off option is showing itself when i hold the power button which is the same problem as yours
havent done any factory reset yet. is there any way to retreive the photos since i dont want to lose them. there are around 600 and all of them are of the trip.
im on 5.1
there are other people too who faced the same problem and all of them are on 5.1 but there is no solution

Mine did this yesterday, although I'm not entirely certain that the battery hit zero percent. The best I could tell from looking through the logs in recovery was that something was trying to update and failed. I suspect that it was a push from Motorola that hosed it. The only way to fix it is to do a factory reset. Once I did that and restored all my apps the battery was draining at a rate of 40% per hour or so. I found that the package access helper was the culprit and rebooted the phone. Post reboot, I immediately noticed that the boot animation and Moto logo had changed from what they had been on 5.0/5.1 (prior to yesterday). I also noticed that some of the widgets I hadn't reconfigured after the reset were now back. Weird indeed.
Anyway, I have to agree with the others that this is a very bad bug, that needs to be fixed. I am cautiously optimistic that the factory reset has cured it but we'll see. Based on my experience with this phone so far and the sale of Moto to Lenovo, this will be my last Moto phone.
I am having the exact same issue. Has anybody had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a bunch people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?
Apologies if this is the wrong area for this or if up to date information is available, but I can't find any solutions anywhere.
My daughter has a pre-paid Virgin HTC Desire 510 that she has had for some time, but just started acting up today. Starting from off, it boots up and goes to the home screen fine. Then 35 seconds later (I've timed it several times) it shuts down. No matter what you are doing it goes black, just as if you pulled the battery. Then it boots up again automatically and continues the same cycle indefinitely until the battery is pulled.
I've been searching for the last 3 hours and have tried every remedy I've read, from checking the battery connections, wedging a small piece of paper there to force a better connection, and trying a new battery, to booting it without the sim card, without the sd card, and without both. Makes no difference, the phone is usable for 35 seconds, then power cycles. One interesting note on this though, if I try to manually shut down the phone, as soon as I press "shut down" or even "restart phone", it instantly shuts off the same as at the 35 second mark. Instant black screen with no proper shutdown sequence.
I (and she as well) have conceded to just wiping the phone entirely to attempt to fix the problem. Only that doesn't work either. I found that in order to do a factory reset, the "fast boot" option must be turned off in the power settings. Her's is not. In the 35 seconds I have to go into the menu, I can deactivate the setting, but it always hits that 35 second mark and turns off just after I do. After rebooting (either by letting the cycle occur, or pulling the battery and booting fresh) the "fast boot" section is still valid. In fact, I even went so far as to try to move icons around, change other settings, etc. to see if anything sticks after the boot cycle and nothing does. It seems the improper shut down that occurs prevents any previous changes from being saved. In turn, this prevents the phone from doing a factory reset.
Now, I've tried the factory reset several times and it always reboots with the same normal home screen, 35 second function, then power cycle. I've also tried recovery mode as well but it just stays on a black screen with a red triangle and "!" inside until battery pull.
This is about all the information I can dig up or provide without any further insight. I will say that I'm not that comfortable with my skill at attempting anything that requires downloading and transferring any kinds of files to the phone and installing them manually, as I'm not THAT savvy when it come to things like rooting phones, etc.. So if there are ANY solutions short of "rooting", "unlocking", "bootloader", etc that I just don't know much about, please let me know.
Thanks for any and all help, I will attempt any possible solutions I am able!
Hmmm....this sounds strange. The things you described could be from a bad kernel. But you haven't tried to root it yet so that rules out the bad kernel. I think that you should reinstall the whole system using an RUU. That is your best shot at this moment. If that also doesn't resolve your issue, your only option will be to root your phone and install a custom ROM. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask

Has she done anything to the phones files? (deleting stuff you shouldn't?).. RUU for Virgin Mobile - Run from a Windows computer. http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_A11_CHL_K44_DESIRE_SENSE60_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.49.652.3_Radio_1.47.40.0224_NV_SPCS_1.08_003_release_448617_signed_2.exe
Thanks for the responses. It seems like fixing this phone would be more trouble than it's worth for me, as it wasn't an expensive phone and I have no experience rooting phones, lol! I think she has money saved up and wants a new one anyways. Thanks for taking the time help out!
