the droid has the possibility to use the usb host feature with a modified usb cable (witch doesn't work on the milestone), and the nexus one can use it with a modified kernel....
Anybody knows if there is a way to get the usb host working on a milestone? e.g. some kernel module or something else?
Connect the USB-Host "dongle" to your Milestone prior to see the Motorola bootscreen, then disconnect it and use a USB OTG cable to connect every device you want to your Milestone.
It works.
EDIT: See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726210
not working for me
i'm doing something wrong cuz my milestone don't want to recognize anything... i made a cable with a litle switcher, not "dongle". running on froyo, but also tried 2.1... i don't understand...

Hello,
What a coincidence...
I have exact problem on s3 mini phone...
Phone is completely death when i press power button, but phone is recognized in windows device manager and ubuntu terminal by lsusb command.
Code:

and
Code:

As you can see usb connection to processor is constantly plug in / out...
I was looking for possible solutions on xda forums and i found this topic with "[HOWTO] UnBrick T-Mobile S III QHSUSB_DLOAD w/Video Walk through" To bad it does not have instruction for S3 mini.
My phone is unrooted with unknown version of software. It suffer thermal stress just before problems starts.(It was left on hot machine)
Please help us.

Did you use property software and jtag hardware or some open hardware and software?
Yesterday I disassemble phone and check voltages and frequencies around power management chip "AB8505"
Pressing the power button chip start to supply 1.2 and 1.8 volts and 32.765 khz is there constantly.
Probably, we have same situation, damaged bootloader.
My next step is to build own jtag cable and try to play with OpenOCD and UrJtag. I know its no easy job but I’m really interested in this stuff.
I have jtag cable but without capability for adaptive clocking RTCK. A long time ago i use to play with at91sam7s microcontrollers and bunch another geek stuffs, hell why not to try then.
I'm nob regarding to android os, file system, phone bootloader etc. So, now i'm collecting informations and documentation, if anybody have some useful links or suggestions share with me :good:
Hey guys,
the phone of my daughter shows the same effect, so I wonder if and how you solved the issue. I do have openocd and JTAG adapters. So where do you get the loader and the jtag pin assignment? Would be great if you could finish this thread with a working solution.
regards
Astralix
Got same problem.. Any solution to make it boot without JTAG cause I don't have JTAG tool? Or does any one success with unbrick device by sdcard? I will be glad if any one can help me out from this problem...

Did you managed? I want to do it the same way, rather spend more on universal JTAG hardware than buy commercial GSM box. But first wondering about this USB 8500 mode. For sure it is for some purpose, maybe we dont't need hardware JTAG or Direct eMMC, but some software which allow to talk with Novathor DB8520H chip. I see it might have something in common with HTC Desire 510
Edit: Found info about Novathor in HTC Desire 510 here http://www.digizoop.com/htc-desire-501.html but other sources say it's Qualcomm based.
Has anyone tried the debrick.img method?

Currently Chromecast can only use USB OTG for firmware flashing. OTG isn't available in the normal booted state.
So if you're asking whether you can connect a USB hard drive on a USB OTG cable connected to Chromecast for playing/accessing stuff on it, No.
If you're trying to use a USB hard drive for FlashCast ROM/mod flashing, I'm not sure if that will work.
In either case, you need a powered OTG cable, as Chromecast does not provide power on the USB - it expects to receive it there.

Ok but did you mean that its impossible to connect an Hard drive to stream an Video from it with flashing the device or without ok without it wont work i know but with an Custom Rom or root ??
You may be able to enable it with a custom kernel.
But even then you'd need a way for playback. you could start a dlna server but in this case doing that with another device would be the same result.

As @m11kkaa said, it might be possible with a custom kernel, but no custom kernel exists AFAIK, and Chromecast is not like a typical Android device which is easy to modify or do custom development for.
Also, even if you got support, you would need a Chromecast-side app that can access the content, and an Android-side app to browse/control it, which seems like a lot of work when you can already achieve the same functionality via DLNA or storage connected to the casting device, rather than storage connected to Chromecast itself.
I have a Note 3 which I rooted October 2015. I installed Android 5.0 using safestrap, was on 4.4.2. I had some trouble with getting 5.0 on the phone, but finally managed. Since then I don't have root access as well as no computer will recognize my phone. I have tried updating all the drivers in the world, installing them from kies, samsung website, 3rd party sites. I am convinced that I messed with something when I put 5.0 on the phone and now it no longer is talking to the computer correctly. I saw a thread that mentioned it might be the radio/modem firmware. (I can't seem to find that particular thread) I feel like I'm stuck. I can't flash the modem firmware via the computer because the computer can't see it(tried using odin/minimal adb and fastboot), and I cant flash on phone because it's not rooted. I can't root because the phone the computer doesn't recognize the phone. I've tried several one-click roots to no avail.
To summarize things tried:
Factory Reset
Attempted Root via Computer
Attempted Root via Phone(towelroot,framaroot,kingoroot)
Download any and all drivers that might work(Kies, samsung, 3rd party)
Changing the USB Settings to be AP MTP + ADB
Yelled at it
It's not my first rodeo, but I can't seem to figure this one out. Please help.

The phone does charge. It doesn't seem like it is allowing the fast charge, though.
Maybe the port is damaged? Tried different computers, USB cables, and USB ports?

I've tried different computers, cables and ports. That is part of the reason I narrowed it down to the phone having issues. I'm leaning toward software, but do you have any suggestions for testing the usb port?
Sorry, I don't know of any way to test the port. Replacement USB ports can be had for a low price from ebay.
My nexus 6 is rooted. 10 days back it stopped charging from my turbo charger. I accidentally wiped everything including the OS and the internal storage from TWRP mode. Now when I am connecting the device to my laptop it is saying usb not recognized( device descriptor request failed). I have tried everything to solve this. I have updated all drivers and tried out in different devices with different usb cables but all in vain. I also tried to mount otg in TWRP mode but I can't check the mount usb otg box in recovery mode. Please help me out.

Start with wireless charging; there must be some energy in the N6 to communicate with other devices. And clean the USB connector with a small brush wetted with isopropanol or alcohol.
If what @NLBeev recommends doesn't work, you may have no choice but to flash a stock ROM image using ADB. So long as you left your bootloader unlocked, flashing a stock image should restore your device to a running state.
Guys my device is charging from other chargers so there is no problem in charging it. To use adb sideload my device needs to be recognised by my pc but it doesn't. How do I sideload my device then?
Did you install the USB driver Google provides?
Yeah i have installed all the drivers.

Cable OK? Try a different one.
USB-port OK? Use a different PC.
When using Windows 10 and having driver issues; uninstall and delete the drivers from the PC and let Windows 10 search the internet for updated drivers.

I have tried everything but nothing is working. Is there any other way?
Not that I can think of. You may have a bad USB port on the device, which means a trip to the nearest repair center.

Have you cleaned the USB port?
Yes I have cleaned it. I even went to the service centre once and they said that your mofherboard needs to be changed. But my motherboard is fine.
How do you know your motherboard is fine? Clearly your motherboard isn't fine if the USB port isn't working.

Yeah maybe. So do I need to change my motherboard then? How much will it cost?
You would need to replace the motherboard, but I don't know how much they cost. Sorry.
