[Q] [SOLVED] Error when trying to install December patch. - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

I'm in the November patch of Android 9. Today I received the December update but it does not update, it says "Installation problem".
Of course I have the bootloader unlocked and the phone rooted.
I have camera2api enabled and I do not know if that is a problem, or if something else that has been modified by root is what does not allow me to perform the update.
Does anyone else have the same problem with today's update (December patch)?
Will we have to uninstall magisk patching original boot image to be able to update or something like this?
Thanks
PD: I got pie on my phone using this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/how-to/rom-mi-a2-android-9-ota-stable-t3869307

System changes will make the update fail since ur system is tampered

Use fastboot to flash boot_a, boot_b, system_a & system_b. Then restart the phone and you will be able to update through OTA.

You can get system.img November patch (10.0.1.0) from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/how-to/ota-v9-6-5-0-odimife-t3823445. You just need to download full rom package and extract system.img. :good:
When you update, you can re-root the December patch using patched_boot from here, I used it and it worked perfect. https://sourceforge.net/projects/xioami/files/Mi A2/10.0.2.0/
Run
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a patched_boot.img
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b patched_boot.img

Can someone share link to download boot.img and system.img only....that would really be helpful

hello, you have to fleshear in the two partitions or only the active one (in my case the a)

Only the active one.... actually i never went for a/b types for patched boot i simply flashed it...

so you did: fastboot flash boot boot.img then fastboot flash system system.img?

Yes ....

When you patch boot.img, magisk is uninstalled. If it still appears installed, you may not be flashing the image correctly in the a and b boot partitions.

fastboot flash boot_a boot.img

fastboot flash system_a system.img

5.0.1 without wiping?

So, is there a way to flash the update to 5.0.1? I'm unlocked, rooted, and still encrypted. I want to stay encrypted. Sorry, just my own paranoia I guess. But is there a way to do it as an update without wiping the device and having to restore a backup? I have had too many backups fail in the past, and I'm kinda lazy. Plus its been a long time since I played with flashing an Android. since my old EVO 4G. LOL Thanks all. Oh yeah, if it matters, I'm on a T-Mobile Nexus 6.

The flash-all.bat script doesn't work anyway, so don't use it. Just use fastboot and flash:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
(wait for reboot)
fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
(wait for reboot)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Then, I like to boot directly into twrp and flash supersu.zip to reroot (I don't flash twrp on, just boot into it)
fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-shamu.img
---------- Post added at 02:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:02 PM ----------
You can turn that into a simple bat file to use if you like. Just copy and past the following (in between dashes) into notepad and save as something like nexus-flash.bat:
--------------------------
PATH=%PATH%;"%SYSTEMROOT%\System32"
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
ping -n 5 127.0.0.1 >nul
fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
ping -n 5 127.0.0.1 >nul
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-shamu.img
echo Press any key to exit...
pause >nul
exit
---------------------------------------
If you have named the twrp recovery something other than what it downloads as, be sure to adjust the file name in the script.
This assumes that all the files are in the same folder including the platform tools. So you would need to extract everything into the same folder.

Ok, so not to be a noob, where do I get the image files to flash?
Nexus images are all posted here - https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Ok, so I used the toolkit to unlock/root, I'm assuming then that to use this script you posted, I would need to download the actual ADB/Fastboot files separately?
Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm learning all over again, and this is my first Nexus device.
EDIT: So it looks like I can use the toolkit to individually flash the system image and then the radio. Will that work doing it in that order?

Does anyone know if this is correct?
What I did to upgrade without wiping, i was on stock with elementalx kernel, root and twrp.
Only flashed radio and system img.
1. Downloaded images, extracted zip of the images.
2. Reboot to bootloader
3. Fastboot commands
fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot
4. Reboot to bootloader again
Run chainfire autoroot script.
5. Done
Remember to read read read if you don't know what are you doing, nobody here is responsible if things go wrong.
With my past phones, there was always a stock rom posted shortly after the update came out. I would just flash that over what I had already to update. Is there some reason why no one has posted any stock roms for the nexus 6?

I'm wondering the same. Usually it was out right away and I would do the same as you. Seems crazy to me that we would have to unroot update and reroot agaain.
Usually I would flash a stock rom with the update that the dev would also throw root into.

Flashed Stock MM, now can't complete setup wizard

I was on 5.1, bootloader unlocked by sunshine. I rooted to enable tethering, and after did a full unroot. Once the OTA MM update came it couldn't install. Android on back and then rebooted. Instead of trying to fix the software, I decided to get MM from XDA. I flashed TWRP, updated bootloader from computerfreek's thread and flashed his rom for non-verizon.
Now once it turns on I can choose language. At the next page it says select wi-fi netowork, but no wifi networks show up and the Skip button is grayed out.
I followed the directions again and reflashed a few times, but the same result.
I then tried the Brazilian MM from iiwoodstock but with the same result. I flashed his with and without the linked kernal, but again, with the same results.
Any ideas? I was hoping to avoid flashing the stock images, but if that's my only option....
Well I got irritated enough and flashed stock. All is working now.
It was a pain because I only have Windows 10, so RSDLite was being irritating.
Here are the steps I wish someone had put together for me.
This is for flashing this version (and only this version) of stock by using fastboot:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/dr...-official-stock-firmware-6-0-1-mcg24-t3531571
Having ADB Everywhere helps. Just install this:
https://www.xda-developers.com/15-s...ng-fast-adb-fastboot-and-driver-installation/
Make sure your drivers are installed. I needed to go to motorola to download their software to get fastboot drivers to work:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/103535/p/30,6720,9277
Have a copy of fastboot.exe
(Google it or just do a search on your computer. You probably have a copy of it somewhere if you've ever done anything to a phone)
Here is a link to the .bat file I made that will flash it without needing RSD.
https://nofile.io/f/sh00er98rzM/servicefile.bat
In case someone finds this thread and the file is no longer hosted, here it the text of the .bat file (use Notepad++ or something):
echo off
fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot bootloader.img
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.8
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.9
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.10
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
pause
fastboot reboot
exit
(Have phone connected in fastboot mode - power plus volume down)
1. Extract the stock image into a folder
2. Put the .bat file in that folder
3. Put a copy of fastboot.exe into the folder as well
4. double click the .bat file
(wait for it to finish. If there's errors, don't worry, it should be fine. Worry when it's worth it. This is not a big deal)
done
I figured this out primarily because of RootJunky.com's youtube video.

Security update to OPWS27.113-45-4 won't install

So I unlocked and rooted my phone, and so far I love the Moto G6 plus. But there's a new security update: OPWS27.113-45-4. It keeps popping up randomly over any app and shows in my messages. When I try to install the update it downloads perfectly fine. But right after the download it pops up again and says: Sorry, there was a problem updating your moto G6 plus. No changes were made.
Does anyone know what could be the problem or how I maybe could hide the pop-up if there is no other way?

Me too! I have identical problem (Moto G6+). :crying:
I use the official guide for OTA upgrade with A/B partitions with Magisk: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tips.md
My Magisk version is Beta 16.6.
I do: Restore the original boot partition from the Magisk Manager (the option to uninstall Magisk), and without rebooting I downloaded the OTA and start it. However, it refuses to install!
After this error and without do any reboot, I re-installed Magisk with the "direct mode" and I reboot.
After it all is clean. However, I still in the April firmware.
I hope someone can found a method to apply the OTA and not use the bootloader (I don't be confortable re-flashing the modem).
I had the same problem even without root (only unlocked bootloader).

So perhaps the problem ins't with the root but with the bootloader...
I check it also with the "adb sideload OTA.zip" and it fails.
Here you can download the ZIP of the OTA: https://www.sendspace.com/file/5n4mpv
Anyone with the bootloader locked can test if the OTA really works?

Hi,
In this thread about the Pixel 2 some people has a similar problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/help/unable-to-install-ota-updates-unlocking-t3732692
Some people indicates that the OTA can only be applied using the "adb sideload" command. Hovewer in my case it also fails.

Downgrade from PIE 9.0 to 8.1 Oreo

Hello, i have urgent question. I want to go back to 8.1. PIE is to buggy and ram management is terrible. Tried to factory reset, no reaults.
I'm on PPW29.69 November security patch. I want to go back to 8.1 OPWS28.46.21-12. Problem is I have locked bootloader. I'm on 1900-7.
I know fastboot procedure to update phone trough fastboot flash OEM logo bootloader gdf sparsechunks etc...but I don't know this procedure will do if I want to go back.
I'm on locked bootloader, do this procedure will work If I want to downgrade?
I have the same question. Someone could help?
No, you can't and btw pie is not so buggy.
Are you serious? Even if I will flash everything trough fastboot? flash all bat, sparsechunks, oem, bootloader? This is official method to upgrade manually, but you cant really to downgrade using the same tool?

You can downgrade only with an unlocked bootloader. If you don't unlock it and downgrade you will bootloop your device.

Many thanks! So, you said unlock bootloader, and then flash all this fastboot procedure? Will IT work?
Last question, i could flash android one 8.1 the same way you flash regular stock fastboot ROM on 1900-7?
I'm on november PIE patch, if i will flash the same november patch but in 8.1 OREO, i will have bootloop?
I have flashed android one pie rom on my retail variant and it works well. What kind of bugs are you facing? Maybe you can try A1 rom once.
I will unlock bootloader and flash Android One rom today. I Hope everything will be okay

I bricked my device after doing some stupid thing, what stock ROM do I get to fix it?

I had installed the latest January patch on my stock ROM Moto One Power XT1942, and after rooting and tinkering, I accidentally put my phone in a bootloop. I tried to get hold of a stock ROM image but I only found ROMs with November patch, and comments warning me to not downgrade. So what do I do? Can anyone provide me with a January updated stock ROM?
If your phone is defined in the device manager as COM port 9008, you can restore it according to this instruction.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/guide-how-to-unbrick-moto-z-hardbricked-t3590133
The file 'blank-flash.bat' can be taken in the folder "mbm-ci", the cat will be in the unpacked firmware.
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/chef/official/RETAIL/fastboot_chef_oem_user_9_PPT29.74-25_64be_release-keys-cid50_oem.tar.gz
After installing this file, the phone will be able to boot into fastboot.
After that, you can restore the phone by flashing the same downloaded firmware using the method described here.

Just yesterday, I so restored my phone from a brick, obtained after installing an unofficial TWRP and firmware RR.

You did not "Brick" your device per se. Probably some improper file was flashed. If you have not wiped your phone, you can just simple try to fastboot flash the stock boot image. It may solve the issue. If not then do a clean flash to either the stock ROM or any custom ROM from this AFH link.
Note that the Custom ROMs are still in beta due to a VoLTE issue and thus are not released on XDA Dev DB yet. They are safe to flash though and are stable if you do not need VoLTE.
You can also ask for more help at the official telegram channel for the device.

I thank you very much for your help. I was able to successfully flash the stock firmware from the link you provided. I only have a small question. The stock ROM zip, is it updated after every security patch OTA update?

Yes, the complete firmware file is different with every new build released. You can install OTA with the current fastboot flashed stock ROM but provided it has to be "FULLY STOCK". Else the update will fail.

Did you install any third party app or it happens by itself? I had the same problem but i was messing around with the moto app launcher. Anyhow, try flashing this stock rom with latest june security patch. Don't use TWRP, it is a full rom. Use Fastboot mode. Also backup your device, if you want your files back. This will do a clean install of the rom.
Here is the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lLmDvX4R4o2Jqrhp1RQflap27jxe4hXS/view
Steps:
1) Boot your device into fastboot mode
2) Open flashall.bat and wait for flashing
3) Reboot
