Ok, so my wife works in cardiology, and she was looking for a good medical application to help her through the day. There is a very small Drug Reference App, but not what she's looking for. Epocrates (sp?) is an app built for WM, Palm Pre/Treo, and Blackberry, but no Android support.
My main question is:
Is it possible to port this app to android, or build it?
...BUMP.....
Thread Bump....
It is not really feasible to port the app without the help of the company who created the original application. Your best bet is to contact them and tell them you are looking for an android port. If they see enough demand perhaps they will port it.
I don't believe Epocrates has developed an app, but go to Unbound Medicine and almost their entire suite of apps is available for Android.

Not to mention i'm sure Epocrates, Inc. would not be pleased if you went about porting their applications without their permission. As noted above, best way is probably to demonstrate to Epocrates, Inc. that there is a demand for an Android version.
Right on, thats all I needed to know! Thanks
I surely agree with what JanetPanic and jashsu had to say here. It is really not good to port without their permission, but does Epocrates give this facility is a question when they do not have Android support.
I use reQall a lot and when I saw that there was an iPhone and BB app for the site, I emailed the developers and asked about an Android version. They said that they are considering one if there is user demand.
If you do use reQall please contact them and let them know you would like an Android app soon!

Since reQall offers a decent free version of their service (I have the pro version) why not try it out and make a pitch for the Android app?
Thanks,
Terry
Hi All,
I would appreciate help with the following questions:
1 - Will rooting allow me to buy from the Pay-Android Market? I am in SOuth Africa and we only have the Free stuff
2 - Will rooting allow me to install all apps and games, including pay appd/games? Like an iPhone Jailbreak? So I wont have to pay
3 - Are there any down sides to rooting? Or adverse Side effects?
Also if possible can someone link me to a thread were I can ascertain all the necessary software to root my i9000
Thanks in advance,
Obi~
P.S. Please can a mod edit my title - 1st Time Rooter Help Please
Answer to question 1. Rooting your device will allow you to download an app called Eris Market Fix which will allow you to run the Market in your region of the world however, if you dont have the market already you will need to search for the .apk file from someone here at XDA to get it. If you do have the market already but just cant buy paid apps then that is ok cause the Eris Market Fix app is free.
Answer to question 2. No... Rooting is not quite like jailbreaking the iphone and it will not allow you to get paid apps from the market for free. Also - Pirating software is NOT tolerated here on XDA so I would not even discuss it again for sake of not getting yourself banned from the site.
What it MAY do is provide you with the ability to download "non-market" apps if you dont already have the ability to do so.
Answer to question 3. Check the Galaxy S Android Development forum for the z4root app. This is the easiest and fastest way to root. Be advised that it will not work on some firmwares however.
Thanks for the feedback
Was unawares of the Piracy issue, wont happen again.
As I said I am happy to pay, as soon as I get the pay market
No problem... Good luck... And happy Market Shopping when you get it all worked out!!!
Hey there. Just want to know if anyone can make me a website banner. I want the banner designed around apps like an app collage and then have the words "All Apps Review". If anyone can do this it will be greatly appreciated and im willing to pay.
New to the community & Android development. Please direct me in the right direction.
Hello, I'm new to the Android community. I have prior programming experience and I have made apps through Unity and have successfully published them on the Google Play store and competing app stores. I decided that I want to write native Android apps.... so here I am.
The problem:
I want to create a very simple app. It is a simple messaging app, just like the messaging in Snapchat. It is not like other text messaging apps where you are given a number and you can text anyone you want, even if they don't have the app. That is not my goal.
1. You must have the app
2. You do not get a new number. You get to choose a new username only.
This is the goal of the app. The question is... what libraries and APIs do I have to use? Are there any good tutorials on this subject? And the most important question is, would I have to buy any servers or something? Do I have to spend any money for this to work or can this work with the user's cell connection? I don't want to purchase anything / servers. Is this possible?
I'm sorry for the lack of knowledge, but I am aiming to improve myself! Thank you very much for the read.
Hello,
Messaging infrastructure needs a server to centralize users accounts, messages and users status.
You can find low cost VPS servers, but it's not free.
Sincerely.
