[SOLVED] [Q] Kernel Compiling & Custom Recovery

So I've been messing around with compiling my own kernel (using Semaphore as a base) and CWM based recovery and have run into a bit of a snag. As far as I can tell the recovery compiles since I can built the update.zip and it'll flash yet I can't seem to figure out how to get it to compile into the kernel. I thought all I needed to do was replace the ramdisk.img and ramdisk-recovery.img, but that doesn't seem to work. I've tried searching for the answer but I've been unable to find it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
You'll need to replace another file ("recovery") in the ram disk folder. Sorry I can't remember where it was, I'll tell you when I get home.

[Q] Dual boot - I need stock kernel.md5

Hello,
I am trying to dual boot my device using the instructions of BOOTMGR, which you can find in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521917
But when I am in CM I need the stock kernel, which is an '.md5' file. When I extract the stock firmware from sammobile, I get two bin.md5 files.
I also tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119 but it is also an .bin.md5 file, and both bin.md5 files don't work. Does anyone know where I can find the stock.md5 file, or how I can get it/convert it?
Thanks.
Take cocore kernel and rename it to stock.md5

I did this: I extracted the 'cocore.tar.md5' file. Then I got the 'cocore.bin.md5' file and I renamed this to 'stock.md5'. I placed this file in the stock folder and now it is stuck again on bootscreen.
So I got this on my device: 'Dual Boot'>'Stock'>stock.md5.

I tried it with Paranoid Android and then with CM10.2. If i don't change the kernel it just boots the custom rom. If I change the kernel I need to flash the stock firmware so it will work again.
First before you do anything with dual boot, flash odin. After you got the original firmware then flash cocore kernel. After that take cocore kernel md5 file renamed in into stock.md5 and put it into respective folder. Hope this works for you because it works for me

Bro. 1st see whether ur ROM supports frames version or .mp4 version by going to
Root/system/media
If it is a frames version (I mean - the contents are of .png) then flash 41 mb files
But if the contents is of start.mp4 then flash 7 mb file
How to remove this boot animation? Or undo it?
Should I flash any other animation or any other way
Please let me know.

You can refer my tree for MIX 3, which is system-as-root device.
You have to add "BOARD_BUILD_SYSTEM_ROOT_IMAGE := true":
https://github.com/AndroPlus-org/device_xiaomi_perseus/blob/arrow-9.x/BoardConfig.mk#L13
and change fstab according to stock one
https://github.com/AndroPlus-org/device_xiaomi_perseus/blob/arrow-9.x/rootdir/etc/fstab.qcom#L19
I bought Redmi note 7 but it isn't shipped yet...
@AndroPlus
I know. I'll keep trying with my friends:good:
And xiaomi is really a little slow to ship
I was in China and they shipped it by China post
6 days to arrive, and in China!
Thank you very much:laugh::laugh:

Just unlock your bootloader first nefore attempting any of this. And don't forget to backup your files too.
You just need adb & fastboot system wide installer, twrp img file and the eu rom zip file. magisk is built in on the chinese twrp so zip file is not really needed.
Can't elaborate a more detailed instructions coz booting the chinese twrp is a pain.
