Hello everyone!
So MI 6 is about to come in march 2017. I'm currently user of Nexus 5x and looking for a upgrade since the budget is limited, so I'm looking for a economic option.
I found an exchange with unboxed MI 5 with my nexus 5x. Should i buy MI 5 in 2017? Are you still satisfied with it or it should be better take a look for another phone?
Thanks in advance!
never had a phone with such excellent hardware and such poor software.
Every rom i tested had bugs bugs bugs. My cheapest android phone had better and mor stable software than all of the roms for MI5
Next phone will be definetly a hono 8 or somesthing like this
I have the model with 64gb and 3gb of ram, best phone for now. Personally I tell you to buy it, it's a good phone
I have 3gb 64gb version and I love it. I would say go for it:good:
Poor software? How? I didn't like MIUI but there are plenty of custom roms that work very well. For example LineageOS has very few bugs nowadays
If I compare this to my wife's Huawei... I would never change.
So, yes. The phone is still worth buying and custom Roms are developing all the time.
I have suggested this phone to my friends and they are also happy with it.
I bought the 64GB version about a month ago, coming from an Oppo Find 7 and I don't regret it. The hardware and the look and feel are excellent, the software is indeed not perfect, but the bugs are not that bad if you ask me.
I've only used MIUI since I got it, never had a Xiaomi phone before but I tried it on other phones and always kinda liked it. Currently I am on xiaomi.eu 8.1.6.0 and the only bugs worth mentioning that I found are:
- a touch problem, horizontal swipes are often detected as vertical, you have to be very accurate in your gestures, particularly when trying to remove notifications by swiping them.
- the microphone on wired headsets gets muted if you are on a call and you let the screen go to sleep while you talk . The issue doesn't happen when you lock the screen by pressing the button during the call.
Both issues are software-related because they do not occur on custom roms from what I've read.
One more thing is that it feels like the camera is let down by the software a bit. I isn't bad or anything like that, but it could've been better.

Custom Roms lots of them ??
:laugh::laugh::laugh:
as far as i can see, there are only 3 Roms: native chinese, eu version, CM14, All other Roms are based on CM14. And as far as CM14 has no dual Ringtones, and even Notification Light on missed calls is not working there is no alternative to Miui
Is notification light for missed calls a deal breaker? Oh my... You have big problems.
And there is AOSP?
Of course i'll choose LOS rather than miui. Quickreply is important. Btw imo this phone is still worth to buy in 2017. There maybe still some bugs in current custom roms. But, it's improving for sure from time to time
hello everyone, I am currently using the essential phone because I like using AOSP ROMs and the phone size itself isn't too big. I do wish the screen size is bigger, and I thought the S10 is perfect in terms of size. I want to ask how do AOSP ROMs run on the S10. Are they fully functional? Do you guys also have other cell phones in mind that would have a similar size like the S10 and have good specs?
I was very tempted to jump on the deal for OnePlus 7 Pro but the phone is just way too big for me
Hi, guess it's late enough for answer, but the only secure ROM at the moment is unofficial LOS 17.1 beta from modpunk, other roms have some security issues. So if you are still choosing and OP 7 Pro is not big enough for you, guess it is better choise at the moment, btw. i'v seen that it is possible to install stock OP Camera app...

i know your pain, in those times finding a decent phone with a reasonable screen size is hell.
I don't think an s10 is a good idea for custom roms.
the process of installing a custom rom is much harder than average, development for the device is (relatively) pretty dead.
either accept oneui ( which became actually nice even though i'd still prefer a stock experience) or just don't go samsung.
good luck, man

ended up with the oneplus 7t. got used to the big size. Dont think I can go back to 5.7 in screen anymore =D
Ok so I've been outta the rooting community for a while. Going to be picking up a Pixel 4XL. If the bootloader is unlocked does banking and GPay work? And if so does rooting affect that? Thanks in advance.
Same question!
I am coming from Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite (root+custom OS) and it seems that the Pixel is not that much better... If any better?
Considering unlocking bootloader and playing with it. Hopefully battery life would go up (so much better before...) and it would feel snappier. Having weird bugs like disappearing quick access bar or missing labels from launcher.
So far 64 bit only has been a huge disappoint as a new Pixel user. Not something I expected when I pre-ordered the phone and traded in my old phone to upgrade. Already found several apps that I can no longer use.
I have never rooted or installed a custom ROM before, but now with the 32 bit issue I am looking into it for the first time. Since I read a few posts that this is not an A13 issue, but rather specific to the version of A13 on the Pixel could alternative ROMs provide the ability to install 32 bit apps?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is paranoid Android and why would that allow 32 bit apps? I'm assuming it's some form of a custom ROM.
You can almost be guaranteed that custom ROMs will have proper 32-bit support as long as Google doesn't strip it from AOSP any time soon (very unlikely seeing how there are still 32-bit devices out there).

Good to know. I'll wait and see what custom ROMs become available. If there wasn't a good possibility 32 bit support would be available relatively soon I'd probably return my Pixel 7 and get a different phone.
I have about 150apps on my P7 and i dont have any kind of problem, i know there's only 64bit support but what i mean is that i did not encouter too much only 32bit apps, and for me, its not really a big problem. And nowadays everyapp have an alternative to try or find out.
Btw, what i saw on twitter is that the mainteiner of EvoX on Oneplus 8 series is coming to Pixel 7/Pro too. So i think we have only to wait for those who want to try custom roms.

One thing that is hard to find are custom/modded 64 bit apps. They are almost always 32bit and won't work. Older apps also don't work which never got 64 bit versions. It's limiting and one of the main reasons I went Android over Apple is the opportunity to use custom/modded apps, side loading, etc. To me that's a big advantage over iOS.

I'm wondering if it pays to get the Pixel 7, considering all the problems that i've been reading about.? Would it be a good idea to root this phone, if i get one? Thanks for any feedback.
stock runs great and you can disable what apps you don't want. i hadd no problems with it so far. so its not neccesary to root if you dont want to but it fun to try diffrent roms.
I just moved from a oneplus 6 (5 years!) to a 9 Pro and then the P7. Each step was a marked improvement. Only kept the 9 Pro for a week as it's app throttling was too severe and I really don't like flashing custom ROMs on current handsets. I see none of the issues typically seen in Pixel 7 reddit posts. Maybe a little warm during charging but less than most rapid charge devices. I disabled Wellbeing and and google home, otherwise prefect out of the box and remains so. Get a case. The new pixel is like holding onto a smallmouth bass.
The difference between QHD and refresh rate is minimal except for the reduced battery life with the Pro, so I am happy with the 7 and will keep it a long time.
I preordered mine, and have not had one issue since getting it. To me it's the perfect phone. All phones will have some issues with some units, but overall I think it's worth the investment.

Feb patch has been pretty stable. January was poo poo. Pixel 7 itself? awesome, recommend it. Software clean camera immaculate. Recent feb patch also stabilize the phone and its battery life.
I had a Pixel 6 and it was a real PITA. Stock ROM was buggy and overall I just did not like the device. Anyway I got a Pixel 7 and for me it's a much more nice device. I guess I will keep it for quite a long time. Usually I buy a new/used flagship device every six months. But I'm tired of that behavior pattern.
I tried various custom ROMs and Graphene OS on my Pixel 7, but I did not really like the ROMs/OS so I went back to stock ROM, and for me that is the best thing at the moment. It's very smooth, fast and problems/bugs are rare. I'm still in love with the Pixel camera system btw.
My Pixel 7 stock ROM setup/stuff I did
Used Pixel Flasher to flash the stock ROM and to root with Magisk. Pixel Flasher is awesome, making things way more easy if you understand the concept (for monthly updates it's great too)
Flashed Kirisakura Kernel to have at least some tweaks and it runs great (used Franco Kernel Manager to flash the kernel)
Debloated the system (getting rid of useless Google Apps stuff) using Android Debloater
In Magisk having the Powerhint Module (for the kernel), Safety Net Fix, and Sui for App Ops
App Ops by Xingchen & Rikka for privacy (editing system/user app permissions with more detail)
Adaway (systemless hosts file / Magisk) with extra hostfile sources for adblocking and privacy
Custom DNS provider for privacy
The P7 is a great phone. I'm not sure what "all the problems" are that you mentioned. Arguably the finger print sensor still isn't the greatest, but it works well enough and the phone also has face unlock if you want to use that.
I had a P6 prior to the P7 and the P7 is noticeably better than the P6. Honestly it surprised me when I got the P7 because I wasn't really expecting any differences. (I took advantage of the Google pricing and trade in values and upgraded for $20 plus tax - I wasn't really looking to upgrade from the P6, but couldn't pass up on that deal. Now I am very happy that I did upgrade).
Prior to the P6, I rooted every phone I owned for the last decade or so. I didn't feel the need to root on the P6 and I haven't felt the need to root the P7. Honestly at this point, rooting would cause me more heartburn than solving problems for me. Perhaps other people are different, but there isn't really anything that I need that requires rooting.
