For a few days my phone hasn't been charging, and at first I thought it was a problem with the battery, but having bought a new one I've realised that when I tilted the charger to the left it would charge, but when it's just left it wouldn't, so I guess a bit of a miss-alignment.
Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this problem?
Cheers, nathaniel
try another cable and make sure it's the one that came with the phone. you should have a usb one and a ac adapter. if both are like that then you need to warranty it out.
Yeah, Ive tried it with the USB cable and the charger, I got the same result. Is there no quick fix, I'm going abroad in 9 days and quite need my phone...
There are a few discussions on bad USB connectors in these forums -- searching might provide some things to try.
From what I can remember, it's possible the pins in the connector (on the phone side) might be bent out of place -- you might want to inspect them with a magnifying glass and try to carefully bend them back if any seem out of place.
It's also possible that the connector itself is broken -- in which case you're looking at a service call.
this seems like the problem i faced. i was also facing the same problem and i read the forums here and found it as a usb port issue. so i slightly bent the usb port so that the contacts are aligned and then it started charging
Hey I would also recommend trying a new a new charger again because I have had my share of faulty chargers. Last time I had a problem charging was with a brand new cable that did not work right at the box from At&T and thought it was my battery until i tried another charger that worked. I would suggest trying the charger that is not working on another phone and see if its actually the charger or if it is your phone that is not working.

I think it is to do with the pins in the connector.
I had a search but I'm not very good on forums and I can't find anything of any use. Does anyone have a link?
Just look at the last few pages of topics, you should find something... there are threads about broken USB at least once a week.
One common conclusion is to avoid using USB cables other than the supplied one as their
plugs are a little thicker and tend to deform the phone's plug over time (I admit I always use others though, and as a result do sometimes need to wiggle the cable a tad and not move anything anymore once the connection is established... ).
I once dismounted my Hermes and tightened the plug back a bit, it helped, I've never done it with my Kaiser yet though. If you're not used to dismantling and fixing devices I'd recommend returning it for repair indeed.
I had a the opposite happen, it would charge but no data connection with my pc. If you look at your extUSB port on your phone, see if the black plastic tab is cracked (which was my case) or if the pins are shifted. whatever the issue, its obviously hardware related, take it to an At&t service center tell them whats wrong and if your in warranty they'll change it on the spot.

He got the same result using his USB cable so that would rule out the charger.

guys I am in trouble. I have had rocket rom v10 installed for a couple of week, then all of the sudden 2 days ago my phone started to act like as if its still charging even after I had disconnected the usb cable. Now it seems like its charging all the time and won't boot up. I only see charging battery icon and the phone thinks its charging. I had installed the stock hong kong rom with odin but it seems the phone still thinks its charging and I can't activate the debugging because the phone thinks the usb cable is hooked up to it. i can't root it or even install custom rom. please guys help. phone is not booting and a grey battery icon is shown and sometimes even green battery charging animation is also shown. please help. I can't send the phone for repair as I bought the phone in new condition from a person in dominican republic and have no receipt. what are my options? thanks in advance.
I feel your pain, but I have the exact opposite problem. My note will note will not charge at all, I've plugged it in to multiple sources and I've tried multiple usb cables, but nothing works. I think the usb port may have been damaged
pull battery and leave it out for like half an hour.
if you can enter recovery at all then, wipe everything, cache, stats, the lot, fix permissions, then factory reset, reinstall stock rom.
if you cant then get a jig, into download mode and reinstall stock rom from pc odin.
shouldnt happen with rocket rom, never had an issue there myself, but either of these 2 methods should resolve the issue.
if they dont then, well id start looking at samsung to see if theyd repair it, did it come with any warranty as it must be new, cant be a year old yet.

Unfortunatley it does rather sound like youve damaged the port, did you have insurance, i insured my note for £8 a month, i didnt want to take a chance on samsung saying no to a repair.
i have a feeling its a hardware issue. The usb port is defective. Now I am in trouble because i have no receipt for the phone. it was bought off a craigslist type page.
i have been searching the sgs2 threads and seems like many have the same problem in their devices. after all, our phone is the bigger brother of the s2 phones. Many have bought the new charging port assembly which connects with a ribbon cable. the problem is resolved this way. I want to know where I can get one of these ports for galaxy note within usa or nearby.
Here is how I fixed my usb port inside the note.
Seems like whenever I would disconnect my note from charger usb cord, the phone would think its still connected to the charger and actually discharge my phone. I tried cleaning with alcohol and nail polish remover with tooth brush. No positive results were achieved.
So here is what I did that fixed it for good.
Take a plastic fine screw driver or any sharp plastic strip that would go inside the usb port on the note. Now just push the usb pins (strip-inside the port) back. I mean to push the strip inside the usb port back and in a hard/forceful way, without damaging or bending anything inside. This has solved my problems and now I can connect and disconnect my usb cable for charging and for data transfer without any incidents or errors. Make sure the phone is off and battery is removed. Thanks god the note is working fine for now. I will still buy the usb port once it's available on ebay for a reasonable price.
Thank you very much for the tip.
I had the same issue, was about to send in for repair, this fixed the issued.
Hello,
I have problem with charging. The phone is charging very slowly or not at all. Sometimes I can pull out and plug in and then it starts to load (but slowly). I checked other chargers and cables. I wiped all and installed new roms and nothing changed. Yesterday I saw that phone is charging in TWRP (but not always). What could be the reason? Battery, usb port?
Thanks.
Turn it off and try to clean the USB port. Most of the times it's not damaged, just dirty as hell.
Use tootpicks or q-tips, blow it, whatever. Just try to get it clean.
I managed to buy a new bottom pcb with usb port on ebay for less than £10 when mine burnt out. Does the port smell of burning?
Very easy to change if this is your problem

Today I changed usb port and unfortunately I have still problem with charging. I will try to change battery
How long are you using your phone?
If it's more than a year and a half~, i would recommend you to buy a new battery.
A lot of people having battery related issues in the last few months including myself and for me replacing the battery did the trick.

Before I changed the battery the phone stopped responding to the charger, also it wasn't visible in the computer, only in fastboot, I changed the battery but unfortunately i dont solve the problem
Hi! This just happened to me as well after changing the battery to a new one (Nohon). It only charges in Fastboot or Recovery mode. Even after factory reset and rom reinstalled. Anyone found a solution for this?
Edit: it does charge in normal mode but on slow chargers, no qc3...
I had the same problem, I'm suspecting something in Lineage 15 or some new firmware was causing it.
Unfortunately after i roll back it did not solve the issue.
I have replaced battery but it does not solve the problem, QC adapters just do not work.
The odd thing is that a low quality cable on QC adapters or non QC adapters will have no problem.
And somehow trying to block off the data pin does not work as well.
I've rolled back to Lineage 14 but it sort of "fake" charge, percentage goes up really fast but in reality it barely charged.
EDIT: seems like some of the oreo firmware was causing it, i have downgraded back to 8.4.19 with lineage 14.1
Hi guys
I have this problem a few days , plug charger and very slow charging , sometimes stop charging ! Reset factory not changing (org miui my rom and 9.6.2 version)
I can downgrade to witch rom of android 7 without break of antirollback ?
It's been quite a few days that I am facing this charging issue, my phone simply refuses to charge, I even purchased a 27 watt charger thinking
that the issue is with my stock charger but still it won't charge. I went to the service center and they cleaned the charging port and said that the problem was happening due to dust particles inside the port. My phone was charging fine for 2- 3 days but now I am facing the same problem.
I try cleaning the charging port but there ain't no dust inside. I have to fidget with the charging port and the charger for half an hour and then it starts charging the phone. I have to do this every time while charging the phone. I am unable to understand whether it is a hardware or software related problem.
Can anyone please help me out here?

Hey, I've had this problem with my old phone. Sometimes it could be a fault type c cable too.
Have you tried changing the cable?

The type c cable does not have a problem as I used it to charge Samsung A30 and it is working fine.
Just take it back to service centre then...no way we can determine issue over internet better than a tech at a service centre.
Hello
I've got my Mi 9T Pro since one month.
Since one week, I can't enable MTP USB mode while connecting my phone on the PC.
The phone is charging, but no transfer mode available in the notification panel, tried developer mode, USB debogging, tried multiples cables, same problem. I can't transfer files by cable.
Also, charging is quite erratic, If I move the phone, charging can connect/disconnect.
At first I thought it was hardware issue, a problem on the USB-C connector. This disapoints me because I take care of my phones and I never had a problem like this.
But what just happened make me doubt. My phone was charging normally (it was around 50%) then stopped charging. Tried to plug/unplug, changing the cable, same problem, no charging.
I thought the USB-C connector was dead and that I could never charge the phone again.
But I tried to restart the phone and... it works. Still no MTP mode, but charging is working, while 10 minutes ago it was not working at all.
Do you think it could be a software issue ? Or battery issue ? Does anyone had the same problem ?
Thanks.
Yes
Did it solve ? And if yes , how did you managed to fix it ?
Because i m facing same problem as yours? Pls help me
Same. Weird issue. I guess the cable has become faulty. Or there's lint collected inside the charging port.
Have you fixed this issue? I have the exact same issue you described, I own a Mi 9T, installed Havoc OS

It is clearly USB-C issue (hardware).
That's mainly caused by instable current ,bad powerbanks, Powerful/weak chargers (not the original one) , or damaged/low quality cables, and also use/gaming while charging (the heat causes damage).
Use High quality cable , Original Adapter , you will never have this problem.
bottomline , you need to get your USB-C cleaned or fixed (in case of damage).
