Hi guys,
The main reason I moved from OnePlus 3T to this Moto X4 is for the great battery life. But ever since i bought the phone i am not running on good mileage. It is rather decent but battery percentage decreases quite a lot. Unable to find the right culprit for this.
Currently I have rooted and running Magisk and running on Oreo (Retin, XT1900-2 India).
It goes from 90 to about 15 percent in a day with decent Whatsapp, Facebook (app changed to Fella), and Messenger, and from time to time I use Google drive, watch little video clips (low quality from Whatsapp).
Screen time is about 3-4 hours, in the span of 24 hours. My home is situated in a half sort of signal zone (constant 4G network, no 3G or 2G, Jio network) and 90 percent of the time I use Wifi (ac/n).
In contrast I have a Xiaomi Redmi 5A (office use, costs 77 usd currently) runs for 3-4 days on a single charge!
In Magisk I tried the Google GMS core (i think thats the name) doze and it freezes my Whatsapp notifications and others, I need these notifications, so I disabled and am running normally.
Is there a particular thing that I can use or test or try out to find out what is going on in my phone? OR would you consider that this is usual for this phone?

Nope, it's not normal. With wifi usage I get 7.5 hrs SOT on average. When I am out of station, I use Jio sim for accessing internet. I also use gps and maps in such case and still manage to get 6 hrs of SOT.
Thanks for that confirmation. Looks like something would be wrong then with the hardware.
There's something really wrong with your x4.
I have more or less the same daily usage and in the end of the day I still have more than 50% of battery.
i'm not usung my phone heavy, but always on bluetooth, wifi, momile data and gps, checking facebook instagram and those others social media few times throu the day, sometimes pokemon go. and i have 4-5h on screen time. max 20h in total (android 7.1.1 reteu)
Moto display is culprit
This phone has bad battery life. My moto g5 plus last longer.
yes i can confirm this behaviour. i guess this is largely after the oreo update and even before the update i didn't like the battery life as much which was may be the case because i was coming from yu yunicorn with 4000 mAh battery. so i don't know may be it's the oreo update issue or may be it's only a few models like ours that are affected. either way i'm really concerned as i'm really in love with this phone and don't wanna get a new one any time soon... ?
IDK how much it helps but go into developer settings and disable mobile data always active. It was on by default after I updated to oreo
Wow. I just picked up this phone, X4, to take advantage of a Sprint special.... The 2 days I have had it, the battery has been horrible. I turned off Moto display so I'll see if that helps. Otherwise, I don't have Facebook or any other social media app. I have 1 hour 39 minutes of SOT today and I'm at 15% battery. I'm seeing reports the Oreo update is when this started. Hoping this can get fixed with Pie and soon!
Any tips or tricks would be great! Thanks.
Here is an overnight view on WiFi. So 14 minutes of SOT with Google play services using 35% battery. Any suggestions? This is really hard to believe. I'm likely going to try and return phone I guess.
Did you reset your phone or restore backup?
Hello. Yes, I did a factory reset at the end of day 1. I just turned off background activity for Google play services so hopefully that will help.
Hi everyone,
I received my phone a week ago.
After first boot it updated to miui 11.
I noticed a day later that the battery is getting empty fast. Much faster than my old redmi 4x.
I figured out that the CPU usage is never under 19% @ 595mhz
I testet that with different apps that show the CPU usage.
In case of that the phone also never get into deepsleep and the battery drains and drains...
Is here someone who can help me please?!

Sounds great! But how can i go back to 10?
First put phone into fastboot mode, then check antirool feature with command fastboot getvar anti if you have
anti: 1 it's all good, after that you need to download from Miui page proper recovery rom, put zip on your phone storage and then flash via Miui system update in settings. Don't flash wrong rom it can hard brick device if you have locked bootloader, also remove password for screen, fingerprints, all accounts, miui cloud

Thanks for that! I´ve downgraded to MIUI 10. But the CPU usage is still never under 19% . If the battery now will drain not as fast as before i will see., but i think it will be near the same.
Maybe you can do me a favor and check with the app " CPU / GPU meter & Notification " if your CPU is going under 19% usage. Maybe it is a issue with this kind of apps....
Probably apps have problem with readings..
I think below 19% when device in deep sleep or battery saving mode. Dont know about that app, maybe just reading in relatime. There is a case when i like your case, at first day using miui 11 stable eu, i can get 2days with 6h sot, most of it using wifi. Then i setup my phone completely. On next day, the battery getting drain fast, and it cant last for 1 day, and just 5h sot. Next i check battery usage, and whatsapp at the top rank. And i unlocking every task. The next day my battery back to normal. And when im writing this post, my battery have 85%, 2h sot, and 7h ago since last charge.
Miui 10 with airplane mode enabled
Since I upgraded to MIUI 11 the battery drains fast
not much draining for me but never go deep sleep, most used frequency is 576 mhz
Hi everyone,
I have the same sad issue.... changed from a 3 years old Redmi Note 4 to a 9 lite.
Battery life with my old Note 4 (same 4000mah) was twice the battery life on my 9 lite, after 3 years!!
I disabled everything in 9 lite, NFC, wifi, bluetooth, background and startup apps, animations, notifications, Gplay updates, face unlocking, always on display, enabled dark theme etc etc....
Same battery drain, 12-13% Android System usage on battery stats.
I hope it will be fixed on a newer MIUI update, but it is very irritating to have to charge a new phone every day, when on an older you had a double battery life.
Please update us in case we'll found a workaround....
Just a question.... How do you monitor CPU usage? I see the setting inside developer options has been removed.....
Same here. Tried many things. Looks like "Settings -> Battery and performance -> Battery saver" solved problem for me. Used to drain ~30% over night while idle, now ~7% in same case.
I suppose battery saving tries to shutdown functions I already disabled...
I tried to leave a feedback to Xiaomi.
Also I created android commands local file dump with code *#*#284#*#* and trying to investigate by myself...
I tried modify modify some settings and uninstall or disable some not used apps before. It made almost any difference.
Previously I used Samsung smartphone. With similar settings I had great battery life. It seems mi 9 lite just cannot sleep/deep sleep without Battery saver turned on. I did not notice any difference in performance, user experience or notification frequency while this setting is on, and it seems it works in different way compared to Samsung implementation. Just give it a try.
May be I'm out ; when I sleep if my screen is " up " I lost 25- 30 % of battery : ( when my screen is "return" 4 or 5 % : )

Interesting.... I'll try....
I find it crazy how this phones loses 7-10% overnight while my RN5 lost maybe 2. I work and live in area with bad 4G but decent 3G signal. I try to force 3G when I can.
I just switched on battery saver to see if it helps my standby drain at all.
I'm currently at 1.5 days off the charger, with 37% battery left after 4 hours of screen time. I am a fairly light user and just browse Reddit, XDA, text, hangouts, and 2 email accounts. Reminds me of my Nexus 5 lol. So terrible considering I do so many things to try to squeeze as much battery life as I can.
Maybe my Galaxy Watch being constantly connected has something to do with it.

Have you tried a GSI? Does anything stop working, like finger print reader, etc?
Inserting code ##4636#*#* and accessing networks menu, I found that in both SIM1 and SIM2 is set as default (LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS if you have 2 SIM and you use Dual 4G, LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS on SIM1 and TD-SCDMA/UMTS if you have 2 SIM and don't you use Dual 4G as default), the chinese network TD-SCDMA (before or after LTE network)
Probably this cause waste of time, battery loss and an higher sar level, mostly when LTE network coverage is not at its best.
Unfortunately this setting can be modified inside this menu (setting for example LTE/WCDMA), but this is lot when you restart the phone.
My firmware version is PFCEUXM european Rom.
I wish this TD-SCDMA chinese network will be definitively removed in next rom upgrade!!!
Hey guys, based on your liking
Which ROMs do you think are the best for battery, performance and UI in Oreo, pie and 10, as well as a kernel that would suit for that
I want to stick with a ROM as a daily driver, I'd mostly need battery but I don't want to compromise too much on UI for that.
I'd really love if it's unofficial since I don't want to keep updating all the time.
I'd really appreciate your answer :good:
You can choose from havoc 3.x, Pixel Expirience, and Resurrection Remix.
In my opinion there is nothing like best because almost all ROMs give good battery backup, mostly like 8 Hours+ SOT on mix usage. battery backup would reduce if used always on mobile data and so does the SOT.
I would recommend you havoc 2.x and 3.x others are also good and provide almost good customizations but since you don't want to compromise too much on UI for that then this is good options you may wanna try.
And for Oreo based ROM as far as i remember dotOS was giving great battery backup and SOT, almost like 9 hours or sometimes 9 hours+ of battery backup.
Havoc os
I've tried most roms now lineage, havoc, colt, revenge, descendant, bliss, dot, rr, pe. I haven't tried miui caf and globe editions. Because they have Gapps within them. And tbh, I didn't like any of them. Except lineage. Every rom was awesome in their features etc. But I saw if there's features the battery is to be compromised. If features and battery both are to be there, the rom asks some password I didn't set. And some roms didn't even let me boot itself, not just that the roms also somehow broke the recovery, after it said "my password was wrong and I had to erase data", like booting to recovery went blank screen. I am sorry if I was offending anyone.
Lineage on the other hand, was the best. The rom made the phone go supercool I mean the temperature of the phone was very low even while having a video call. Although given that there are like 0 'extra awesome' features, the battery life was almost up to 20-23 hours. So I'll consider this rom to be the best.

You can't get an official los in Oreo so .. you can try pie .. no tweaks necessary. Just have Pico version of gapps, because, WhatsApp and YouTube needs play services. And if you want root for vanced YouTube use that it won't affect battery life. Just try to keep your storage space as minimum as possible like checking on the option to not download WhatsApp pics and v videos until you press download for all chats. Rest leave it as it is. Also is better do good charging practices that way your battery life and efficiency is good

When you say "battery life", it is taken into account how long the phone stays on the screen on, not the screen off (in standby).
So, It has been 10 months of headaches. Bought in july 2019, for two months best phone ever, battery lasted 2 days, near to 1-2% of battery drain at night on standby. After installing miui 11, the battery said "bye bye". 3h screentime, need to charge the phone twice a day, losing 10%/h on standby.
What I tried is:
-havoc os
-xiaomi.eu Miui 11-12. beta and stable
-Evolution x
-latest firmware always/reinstalled latest firmware-vendor
-always clean install wiping everything
-new battery 2 months ago (same results, no difference at all)
-no app is draining battery in the settings
-unistalled analytics and miui daemon (msa not found on xiaomi.eu roms)
the phone goes in deep sleep as you can see in the photos in the link below.
Gps, wifi and bt always on. Tried switching them off, just 1% less of battery drain on standby.
Bought a broken mi 9t pro just to try switching motherboards, just to try that it isn't a electric or physical issue with the phone, but can't do it that right now, waiting the new screen to test the broken phone.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/zaAoKBJ4txMa7vRg9
Any suggestion?
Have you tested putting the phone on standby in airplane mode? This is unlikely to be the root of the issue but poor cellular signal may negatively impact the battery life.

tried that also, nothing change. Always 4%+/h of drain in standby.
I've pretty same problem, and it's really strange...
I've a Mi 9T Pro, bought not more than 2 months ago brand new, all stock.
I leave on just the phone active during the night, in both SIM cards: no bt, no wifi, no mobile data active.
The battery drain is around 10%, which is really insane considered that before my 3 years old phone, an Honor 8, in same conditions, was draining not more than 4%.
In general battery is draining really too much.
Passed OTA from MIUI 11 to 12, but the drainage is same.
I'd like to understand what is the issue causing that.
Dude. Same issue for me. It's only 6 months old. I noticed battery loss on miui just a month into purchase. I'd suggest pick a rom without Gapps or one with microG and try them out. I was using evo X and getting around 6-7 hrs SOT. Once I moved to Aim and Omni I started getting 9-10 SOT. I think Gapps is mostly the culprit. Miui sucks these days. I tried miui 12 and was utterly disappointed. Try this and you might just start loving your phone again. I'd say go for Omni and setup microG, install greenify, turn off battery optimisations only for essential messaging apps and turn on aggressive doze. Your sure to see a difference
Try havoc os 3.7 , try it without social apps like instagram, facebook and other crap.
Mine usually lasts around 3 days with 6h sot.
I also have gps , bt , sync and data always on
Tried gms doze? Disabling autostart of apps in miui?
Mi 9T Pro ll Tapatalk
The point, guys, is not to try different ROMs or install apps or not to use social medias because the phone drains battery...
The point is that the phone should not drain battery that much at all!
I think Xiaomi should care more of the firmwares released, trying harder to fix bugs that might be important rather than releasing new features.
My own opinion.
PS. Last night i checked the battery drain thoroughly: from 1.30 am to 7.30 am, just both SIM cards on to receive eventually phone calls, no WiFi, no BT, no internet connection, ND mode active = battery drained 9%
It is not acceptable!!
Clear all apps from memory, clear cache of 'Google Frameworks' and 'Google Play Services' don't restart the phone
I do this whenever I remember usually every few days and get great SOT around 9-11 hours. Although Accubattery says my battery health is 3300 of the 4000 as I've had it for a while and I'm a very very heavy user. Brand new was getting closer to 10-12 hours doing this same method.
I found it by someone posting a random comment somewhere in this forum just don't know who or where I saw it. They gave no explanation as to why it works but just what they did and its worked immediately. Note I'm still on MIUI 11.0.3 Global as I'm nervous this method won't be as effective in more newer MIUI Versions.
If you have a newer version please try and let me know if it still works, hope this helps
Also I reinstall MIUI through the phone after clean flashing it via Mi Flash
That is that I flash clean (erase storage but not lock bootloader) from Mi Flash and then go to the update settings of the phone and then press the 3 dots at the top left and "download latest update" and then install it again
This helped when I was on MIUI 10.X.X but do it out of habit so not sure if it helped for MIUI 11.0.03
edit: Reinstall method
Similar issue with my K20 Pro.
1. The battery backup on Android 9/MIUI 10 was giving me close to 1.5 days of backup of 7-8 hours of screen time.
2. It was decreased to 6-6.5 in Android 10/MIUI 11
3. Now with MIUI 12 it is reduced to 6 hours and with need of charging two times in a single day. All this with no social media apps, only Whatsapp, Youtube, Prime Video, Spotify and MS outlook, teams apps with regular usage. WIFI all the time, no GPS, 2-3 hours of Bluetooth. plus tried deboating MI apps.
So far I have tried PE, EVOX and EU roms but all gave me disappointing battery backup. The battery seems fine only on android pie so my assumption is that battery probably doesn't need replacement and more of xiaomi's firmware related issue on android 10.
It's so disappointing to see such a great piece of hardware holding back because of battery. I hope somebody find a good solution to this issue.
Hi Everyone,
I have the Oneplus 10 pro China variant and flashed Indian ROM with Oxygen OS.. Everything is working well and very smooth to me, however, the battery life is terrible with this ROM.
I'm having about 4 hours of screen on time (SOT). It is very weird, because with Color OS I was having around 7 hours of SOT and it was great for me.
Does anyone know if EU Rom is better than Indian ROM in terms of battery life?
I also have noticed that the charging speed has decreased, even it showing that is charging at 80w.
Thanks
I saw this EU member post 11 hours SOT;
Apps & games
Any essential apps and games for rooted OP10 pro?
forum.xda-developers.com
11 Hours, wow. Does anyone else is having bad battery life on indian ROM?
Is it also possible to flash EU Rom using Fastboot Enhanced?
Quick update on the poor battery life , just discharge to 0 and keep it dead for at least 20 to 30min and then charge it back to 100 using the supervooc .. you will have your battery life back.. doing this just once is enough.
The only way to actually compare the battery between firmwares would be to have nothing on the phone besides the same SIM and then see what the SOT is and in the exact same location.
The main factor besides a crap firmware is the apps you're running, the signal efficiency and your habits.
Comparing your phone with mine without these variables taken into account would be comparing apples and oranges..
You can figure a ball park figure but there will always be things not taken into account and a how the hell you getting them times questions.
For me the 11 hours which was more like 10 hours 50+ was in my house, great signal and I streamline all my apps and push for more battery as a rule, so if there's an app on there I don't use or an app i could swap for something better then I'll do it, Facebook app - use web version etc etc.
It all adds up.
Here's me at 48% with very heavy usage.... Been playing arkanoid Vs space invaders for over an hour.

I can help you if you need it.
Let me ask you a few simple questions.
How many apps do you have installed?
How many mods?
How many social media apps?
What is your signal like where you are?
Do you charge overnight?
What launcher?
QHD or FHD?
This is my app usage.
Bare in mind the SOT listed is not from the length of the graph it's only from the last full charge which was around midnight last night.
I may make an SOT leaderboard thread...i had one of these on the OnePlus 5, on that device I managed 14 hours 47 minutes and I wasn't alone in SOT's like that either, I think this phone is capable of much much more.
My highest is 17 hours on a P20 Pro. Always provide proof and it's with normal usage.

I can help you if you need it.
Let me ask you a few simple questions.
How many apps do you have installed?
How many mods?
How many social media apps?
What is your signal like where you are?
Do you charge overnight?
What launcher?
QHD or FHD?

Ok, I know it would be the problem.
I got like 150 apps but I should probably remove those I dont need and I dont use.
8 magisk modules, then I got FB lite app, normal messenger, whatsapp, twitter, instagram, telegram, discord, XDA app.
I live in Czechia on LTE+
No, I dont charge overnight.
Using Nova launcher,
FHD.

Lol ok so I think you know what I'm going to then don't you
Lose Facebook, use the web browser, not only are you stopping FB from spying on you, you'll be getting rid of an extremely heavy app, lite or not it's a battery rapist.
If you've seen the list of tips I sent to the other thread then honestly, just go through them, what's the worst that could happen?
If you don't use it then nuke it, lighten the load and let your phone stretch it's legs.
Think about it, two identical phones. One being looked after with not so many apps and kept light Vs a phone that's laden all the time, after a year or two. That extra work will be more and more apparent In regards to stamina.
Your phones super new, make a change now when it can still make a difference.
If you need help with anything let me know. If I was you I'd wipe the phone and start over.. don't add anything, just what you need and only when you need it, you'll be surprised what you don't use but you do install just from habit.
Also 8 Magisk modules?
What ones? I'm always on the look out for good modules. I'm using 3, two of them are for safety net and systemless, so only one really.
I'm on 88 apps total
Lol did a scrolling screenshot... Just wanted to see if it'll be visible
Edit: wow it did show, extremely well actually.. nice
Go through this little lot and if you still have bad battery life after doing even half of this then honestly i'm stumped.
Change 5G to 4G
Remove Facebook use web based
Remove Facebook messenger use web based
Remove Twitter use web based
Remove any ad based apps pay for the pro version
Turn off gestures like lift to wake
Change from QHD to FHD (No difference)
Allow auto brightness
Turn off WiFi overnight
Turn all updates to manual not auto (play store)
Remove any so you don't use
Change back up to once a month (WhatsApp)
Turn off location history (Google)
Use titanium to remove any system apps you don't need
Don't allow anonymous usage statistics for any app ever.
Don't allow tracking cookies on any website
Use adaway (root needed)
Don't open web pages in Google app (I use Samsung browser)
Don't use xposed.
If you game you will not get high SOT scores, period.
Don't bother with battery saving apps or monitoring apps.
Streamline your apps, if you don't use it, remove it.
Don't allow WiFi scanning (as in letting other apps use it when it's not on)
Never allow personalised ads.
Never allow notifications from websites
Always decline cookies unless your absolutely have to allow some tracking (common sense prevails here)
Optimise as many apps as possible unless it affects performance.
Don't allow apps to remain open in the notification area.
Change your launcher, my preferred launcher is lawn chair and this did actually burn up some battery when compared to the OnePlus launcher.
Don't use live widgets (yes they look cool, but they annihilate your battery)
Live wallpaper, again very cool, but battery burners.
Again! Don't charge overnight, make a note of your percentage then see what it is in the morning, you shouldn't be losing more than 5% really, if you've done well then it'll be reflected here, the good SOT results will follow.
Turn off live read outs of network speed, RAM usage in the status bar.
Turn off NFC unless in use.
Leave location on in quick settings.
Don't overcharge your phone, IE: overnight
Don't allow your phone to fully deplete the battery.
Whatever anyone says, this does 100% damage batteries, there is no argument here and I won't entertain anyone who says otherwise, Ive seen through real life tests what this results in, bloated, inefficient, possibly dangerous lithium batteries.
Keep your phone out the sun.
Keep it out of extreme cold.
Keep your device clean dust free.
Snapchat, Viber, house party, apps like that tends to use more battery as they don't have great dormancy periods.
Apps like speed test by Ookla tend to have location tracking, similarly they tend to turn themselves on and off when they feel like it, my advice, install test and uninstall.
Allow a couple of battery cycles between tweaking sets, to give you an idea of how much of a difference you've made.
Use BBS to see what is being used, once you've removed problems, remove BBS.
I've just written this from the top of my head so o probably missed some things, the general idea is to keep your device clean and fresh, remove files you don't need any more.
Keep an eye on apps that misbehave or aren't wanted, index your folders so they aren't a mess.
The more good things you do means the more potentially bad apps you can have on your phone, eg if you really need Facebook, you could keep it so long as you clean up other areas of your phone.

Thank, I'll take a look and deeply think about what apps I really need and how often.
It is also true that I have rooted phone, playing pokemon go in between which will strech the phone heavily, but this is a thing I count with.
And eh, I dont want to wipe the phone at all to be honest, because I hope that next system updates will improve whole phone, because I can also feel some underclocking and throttling.
And those modules: busybox, gpay sqlite fix, magisk bootloop saver, shamiko, systemless hosts, Universal GMS doze, Universal safetynet fix, Zygisk Lsposed.
Also during the night I am turning on airplane mode (losing only 2 % during the night).
I am also wondering how can I decline all allowed personalised ads and cookies of it is possible.

Lol the only reason i said to wipe was that it's a sure fire way to begin a good habit, by removing bits and bobs it's a bit of a patch up job.
I'd also get rid of xposed, I've always had bad battery life with it, but that's my exprience with it.
As you will have only had one update yes a wipe isn't required, however after a few updates, it's always a good idea to give your phone a wipe to start over, it just means that inherited or created issues between firmware iterations are eliminated, definitely do this if you update a full base ie: Android 11 to 12.
You'd notice this a lot when you update Windows on your PC, for example going from win 10 to 11 you'll almost certainly notice a few issues, giving your OS a wipe at that point fixes a lot of it and improves stability and performance quite a lot.
I agree with the underclock, but the SOC is already extremely efficient from my tests, i've never seen the temp go over 35c which is incredible for a mobile SOC.
Even running a PS2 emulator (AetherX2) it wasn't even warm to touch so throttling really shouldn't occur on this phone, running the PS2 emulator is probably the hardest thing any phone is going to have to do and it breezed it.
Not trying to be a dictator with you here btw, just some advice on what i've noticed over the years, it's up to you what you do with your phone mate.
Also Pokemon go, i think that uses the camera and location and gyros as well as the gpu and cpu lol so yea that's a heavy game for sure, don't think theres a way around that though, maybe just reduce your play time?
Onak extremely happy with those advices, I am just having bad habits at all and I probably think what apps do I use even if probably don't.
I actually don't need 11 hours of SOT, just want more than I currently have. It could be hard because of my habits, also I use my phone as a work phone too for some apps which I do test on daily basis.
And those wiping. I usually do wiping when upgrading to the major versions, because I also know it is recommended, many issues would disappear then. And usually they do.
I know how new this phone is so I am quite reserved with its software, but to be honest, we expect having the phone fully working without those underclocking etc, especially for that price.

Totally agree.. I use my phone for work too.
Do the minimum, it's all positive change tbh, so will have an impact in a good way

Thanks

This is a great thread because I've learned so much about making the most out of your battery, although I came here to find out how you flashed OxygenOS on your NE2210, yes? ColorOS is okay, but OOS is just cleaner in my opinion. Any help is greatly appreciated
