Need help guys
I have a seagate backup plus slim 2tb external hdd
It is easily connected to my s7 by otg but i cannot access it in mi a2
I use es explorer
Although i can use older model of my hdd on mi s2 but not this one
Can someone help ??
Just guessing, but I think the a2 can't provide sufficient power to the hard drive. Have you tried a flash drive with the same format (NTFS, FAT32, etc.) to see if OTG works correctly?

Probably ur external hdd is in NTFS... Wich geenrally cant be read by most ohones due to the lack of something in the kernel. But the s7 being samsung probably has it.
I remember using custom kernel on the OPO that enabled read of ntfs drives

Limit is really the power supply from the Note 2. I have powered a 250GB drive from my Note 2, but that is the largest I have powered solely from the phone. Have connected 2TB drives via an externally powered hub.
Guys i'm on Stock DMA6 Rom with stock everything With Root ......
I have an USB OTG cable which i have seen cannot detect NTFS drives ....... only FAT32 why ????
Because NTFS is not a native format for android. Neither is exFat, has to be fat32 or custom Rom/kernel with ntfs support.

Thankx Buddy it helped
I recently bought an OTG chord.
It works fine with all devices on FAT32.
I have a seagate HDD (500 GB) which is in NTFS format.
The problem is,
1. I took a pendrive that worked well (on FAT32).
2. Then i formatted as NTFS.
3. Now it didnt mount.
4. I have root so I used "StickMount" app on playstore to force mount NTFS formated USB.
5. Now the pendrive mounted easily(even with NTFS format)
BUT my hard Drive still fails to mount!!
infact, a flickering beeping noise can be heard from the HDD (The HDD works fine on my PC)
So the question is why is that so??
Is it something like, HTC ONE OTG cannot support 500 GB??
Or flashing a kernel with ALL OTGs COMPATIBILITY will do the trick??
Has anybody successfully mounted 500 GB HDD??

If its only a usb powered drive the HO wont be giving enough power to the hdd hence the beeping noise from the drive, you could try a mains powered drive to see if that works.

NTFS is not natively supported. However there is a root app that allows r/rw of NTFS partitions

It's not just about power, NTFS is just not supported in stock Sense 5 regardless if the USB stick uses 0 power

Even not with StickMount app???
then in that case anyway to connect HDD to phone via OTG??
StickMount requires root Like I said, only rooted apps can currently r/rw on NTFS drives for HTC One.

I do have root
NTFS pendrive does work
Dear friends,
I searched in google for the OTG Support for xperia sp, I got several answers shows that, someone said YES and someone said NO.
Actually I'm using C5302 without root (in .266 F/W), in my experiance it wont support OTG. Several times i connected the XSP with different pendrives, but nothing happens. But In storage menu there is an option for Mount USB Storage... what is the use of that? Some websites shows xperia sp has OTG support. So my questions are
1. Could any one connect OTG without root?
2. If YES, is ur device C5302 or C5303?
3. Is it possible with any other File Manager (like solid explorer)?
4. If i root my device, is this possible?
one more thing, in solid explorer there is a folder available for USB storage. When i touch it shows no root access. If i root my device can i access that folder? is this folder contains external usb storage?
Well, I'm still on .254 but my OTG cable works. The USB-folder is normally on XSP /storage/usbdisk/. Weird though, because I never heard of Android 4.3 uncompatibility. Even ICS supports OTG. You might check your cable.

I'm not sure about this, but I think there was some article about S3 needing a special cable for OTG, the usual ones didn't work. It was mentioned that the cable that worked for S2 wouldn't work with S3. So it could be that this special cable would not work for other phones?
If you can, try another cable, something that works with other phones, just not the latest Galaxy series.
Friends,
When i connect my pendrive, it dosent shows any change in my phone. But lost.dir folder appear in pendrive(when it connect with PC) does it mean my phone detect that pendrive? but i cant access any thing. is ter any step to follow? already check with new cable and new pendrive, but no change.
Otg works normally straight out the box.
If you are still facing problems try using, stick mount or otg helper apps free on play store.
I don't have issue on Sp... but my n7 does and these apps help.

OTG
and for me it worked OTG
Kingston DT r 3.0
Mouse A4tech G7-750
I think, c5302 cannot support OTG without root...!!!!! Anyone here could connect c5302 with OTG without root?
Maybe your pendriver is NTFS, it support FAT32 only i belive
Filesystem can be one of the reason.
I have c5303 and can connect lot of devices without root on .254 stock rom. Only my 16GB Kingston Pendrive didnt work
On 4.3 Kingston pendrive work as well. Without root.
I dont think that for OTG in c5302 you MUST have root. Its "normal" device support. It didnt ask for persmissions when you connect usb device. Just try at first generic mouse or keyboard and see if it work. When not. Try another cable.
Also try .266 firmware. It has a little more drivers for USB devices. (example my Kingston)

May be thats whta the reason.. I will check and reply
OTG
I can confirm it working on .254 (100% fresh, unrooted). Sometimes I don't get a notification for a connected USB disk, however I can access it using ES explorer
Finally... I conculded that.............
No otg support for xperia SP C5302 without root...........!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its too sad
I check with 3 different cables and 8 different pendrives ( including sandisk, kingston sony and transend etc)
But nothing happens.. In solid explorer there is a folder names USB Disk.. when i tap on that it shows no root access (Im running unrooted) also USB Disk mount in storage menu still not tappable
If anyone could get OTG in C5302 pls post the reply with steps....

The pendrives were FAT32 formatted?
As I have understood from other threads FAT32 should work and NTFS will not work.

I've 2 K3 notes and one is rooted and another untouched system.
I've tried paragon ntfs mounter to mount my HDD. Before I used paragon mounter I could get my HDD power on nd get detected as blank media. After using paragon mounter I'm not able to power on HDD or charge any other mobile via otg. I'm able to power on HDD and charge other mobiles with untouched system K3N.
So I flashed stock rom again to my rooted one but problem not solved :crying: please help
Thanks in advance

I know it doesn't work but it can power up them. Please read the thread again correctly
Why on earth would you want to power up a HDD knowing you can't access/transfer files?
Seems mighty queer to me.
And your topic sounds misleading...are you saying usb flash drives works fine but external HDDs don't work?
Coz thats what OTG is supposed to do...powering external HDD and charging other phones is not OTG.
Anyways...wish you luck and hope some devs help you out.
HDD requires a huge power supply which u wont get from mobile.
common knowledge
Please try anything before answering.

Assuming you tested the USB(FAT partition) and cable is working well, does it show up in storage after connection?
Worked once well. After that started showing that hard disk is corrupted. But hard disk works normally in laptop! Kindly help me!
