Try using home 2 shortcut from play store. I don't know if it has the option for a long press. On the note 10.1, getting to s voice was a double tap on the home button, so I just set that option to open voice search.

Anybody else see that? Seems odd that there's a widget in the app switcher.
same here
I don't have a solution, I just wanted you to know that you're not the only one seeing that.
That's the Google search widget. Haven't had that problem though.

can confirm that it is the Google search, if you have frozen it or uninstalled it you will get this error, once I installed google search again the error was gone.
That's actually a pretty convenient feature. Better than the swipe up thing IMO.

Same problem but I dont have it disabled or anything. I use it all the time but it's just missing from there
I had this too (and have never disabled Google Search)
A simple reboot into safe mode the then boot back to normal fixed it.
Press power button then long press on "Power Off" to access safe mode.

That worked
Just tried on my nexus 5 which had the same issue and it only seems to work if you actually open "Recent Apps" once you are in Safe Mode.
I think it is a profile error as the problem appeared on a brand new Nexus 6 after "restoring" from my Nexus 5 config.
Great!
Starting in Safe mode, opening the recent apps and rebooting fixed it for me as well - many thanks! :good::good:
Try using Gravitybox.
Gravitybox > Miscellaneous Tweaks > Search bar visibility
Set to Hide and remove space.
That will get rid of that annoyance.
Reinstall clean master
Uninstall clean master from settings > apps, then install it from play store. Worked for me.
Is there a way to turn off the google search bar that pops up when you press the home button. Ever since the OTA update this has happened and it's really annoying. I prefer the home button bringing you back to the home screen every time. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks

I have tried everything I know to try to fix it cleared app caches - factory reset - nothing. I know of five gs5 users affected by this - it seems to have happened the week following the 4.4.4 update.
I hate it
I, too, am having this same issue. I can't stand it!! I've tried everything I can think of and nothing fixes it. And, like you, it's been happening since this latest update. They need to fix it or provide us with a way to do it. I was about to reset my phone to factory settings when I saw this thread, and it looks like that won't help either.
I have read on a another website that restarting the device fixes it temporarily - but I have not seen this. Reached out to ATT on twitter, but haven't received any helpful response.
Restarting fixes it for me for a day or so.

Did an update on my google apps and it fixed it temporarily. Now it's back to sucking again...
When hold the button on 4.4.2, greenify comes up as an option, as well as do nothing. hitting this disables the function entirely. I'm not sure if this is an option on 4.4.4, and maybe it's because I have the donate version of greenify.
Edit:Saw on another thread there is an option in the system menu of Wanam to disable the long press entirely and mine is turned off
I think I found the fix. Go to App Manager>All, find Google Search and uninstall updates. Reboot your phone. It worked on my phone. I thinks the latest Google search update is the culprit. Also disable auto update in google play.

thanks
works great !!!
This is compete crap. That update screwed a few things up. Most annoying is this search problem. I tried the above suggestion, but I don't have anything in my app list titled "Google search". Not sure what the deal is. Any suggestions?
S5 on ATT 4.4.4
Edit...Uninstalled the update for the actual Google app and it might have fixed it. The restart was mandatory as it was still acting up even after removing the update.

Thank you, thank you! I thought I was going insane! I installed Dolphin Browser and thought that might have been the culprit but looks like it was a Google update. Uninstalled the updates and now it's not so dang sensitive.

Since the new update my phone has literally been crap. It's slow and lags on every app no matter if I am on wi-fi or my data. I looked through my application manager and could not find google search would it be under something else?
Thank you

If rooted, install wanam xposed module, then change long press home to do nothing. Solved.

Please disregard post, i hit the reply button to the wrong post
I found the solution for my Huawei GR5.
Goto Setting>>app setting>>advance setting>>default app>>Assistant and voice input.
select none for option assist app
So I use the "ok Google" wake up feature quite a bit, but a couple of days ago it just stopped working and the on off setting for it is grayed out. Any ideas? I'm running stock.

May be something that inadvertently made Bixby the default assistant? (Just ballparking) Also I've been going nuts wondering why sometimes when I access APPS I have to re-register for some... Found out it was because I had left Secure Folder active in my button array.
Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 using XDA Labs
I thought about that too. Google is still my default assistant app. It comes up and works fine when I hold my home button. Might try disabling Bixby all together.
Bixby should work with Google Assistant perfectly fine. Have you installed any other voice app? Cortana? Alexa?
Try to re-train Google for your voice again if you can.
Was Google Assistant updated recently?
Bixby voice installed an app called notifications. I want to remove bixby if possible to do so without causing crashing or other problems. Im using a stock rooted note 8
