Repairing TF 701 Cracked Screen - Asus Transformer TF701

I have been using TF 701 for many years. It worked well especially after installing custom ROM. Unfortunately, few days ago, I dropped it on the floor and the glass was cracked. LCD per se seems fine. But, the touch screen doesn’t work correctly. So, it needs a glass replacement. Anyone knows where can I get the part/glass for our believes TF 701? Or, where can I send it for repairing?

you can
You can buy spare parts on Ebay for 20-30$. There is also tool kit which are convenient. Videos on youtube explains how to do. I fixed mine this way, good luck

[Q] Touch Screen & LCD Screen Broken (Need replacement suggestions)

My HTC Hero has a broken touch screen and LCD screen.
Can anyone suggest a cheap place to get them from?
And if anyone is wondering how it broke, I ran it over with my van.
Not intentionally of course.
Phone is from Alltel so it would be $95 to claim it on insurance
Also does anyone have any suggestions what I can put on the screen until I can replace it? It's rough on the fingers to use because of the cracks.
EBAY
Yup eBay has every spare part you would want for your Hero. I just ordered a digitizer yesterday (thats your screen), and that all you need to replace if behind the broken digitizer is a clear picture on your lcd.
This has happened to me twice. I got replacement on ebay for 30 dollars. It includes the whole front panel, touch screen digitizer, and lcd screen. It took me 5 minutes to replace. Just a couple of screws and a connector. Easy Peasy!
I dropped my hero yesterday as well. There was no damage to the screen/ LCD but there are a few scratches to the body. Are there replacements for that as well?
Supposedly sprint will fix any physical damages to the phone, as long as it still works.
supposed to do it for $35 in store without the $7 protection plan.
http://bit.ly/g5RfAB < Goes to the repair part of sprint's website.
I haven't tried it, so let us know if they will fix it.
I was quoted $35 by two different sprint stores to replace my screen. Still haven't fixed it yet, it is only a small crack in the corner and doesn't bug me that much.

Put regular tape over it
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HERO-OEM-LC...919428?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f057b8004
I bought that before..include LCD, Digitizer, and Front Bezel. The bezel was scuffed up and had a few nicks but the digitizer and LCD were in perfect condition.
Don't try that at home
Based on personal experience
I strongly advise against attempting a DIY screen replacement.
Here's my sad story:
1) I dropped my poor little hero, then managed to step on it screen down, completely scratching the entire screen surface.
2) I went on eBay and spent about $40 for a replacement screen/digitizer kit.
3) The kit arrived 10 days later. Very nice package - appeared to be high quality.
4) I followed the directions to the letter. (fwiw I'm generally pretty skilled at this sort of repair stuff, and have repaired other phones and computers with good results).
5) My little hero is no more. It works like crap. None of the buttons work correctly. The trackball no longer works consistently. It's essentially unusable (except maybe as a backup storage device).
If any good can come of this, perhaps it will be that others will read my sad tale and avoid a similar fate!

When you stepped on it it probably damaged the motherboard or some other part because the digitizer doesn't really have anything to do with the trackball.
You do have to make sure the trackball housing is inserted correctly in the new bezel. Also, do not overtighten the screws on the bottom or the buttons work wonky. I just tightened them a little, checked, and made sure I didn't over tighten.

Cracked Screen???

Damn it. I just dropped my SGS from about a foot and a half off the floor and the glass/screen cracked. The phone still works fine but I don't think I can live with it like this. Is it possible to get it fixed? How expensive an endeavor is it to get the glass replaced?
Edit: I don't know if it makes any difference but it's really just the glass that is broken. The display still looks fine and works fine. I'm not sure how these things are constructed and if just the glass can be replaced or if the entire thing needs to be changed. I'm worried that by continuing to use it and carry it around in my pocket that the display may become damaged.
What are the chances that I can get samsung or bell to replace it outright if I stress test it and the SD/motherboard fails again.

If you decide to change the screen on your own, check my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745262. Replacing my own screen thru repair service would have cost 250€ and by changing it by myself it cost 90€. These days you can get new screen from ebay with ~50€.
Where did you spend the extra 40€ above the cost of the screen? I've not read anything about the repair process but did find some ebay listings for replacement screens for $55, which isn't bad at all.

Phone was very new on the market when I bought the screen. That's the reason why screen cost 90€ then. 2 weeks after I bought it the price dropped to ~50€

Source for replacement screens?

Checking to see if anyone knows of or has a source (other than eBay) for screen replacements for the focus. I've got a badly cracked screen that I'd like to replace, but samsung direct wants $156 and the cheapest on ebay is $98.xx coming from overseas. Everyone I found via google is in the $120's give or take now as well.
Kindof kicking myself for not picking one up when I had the 10% off ebay coupon and there were US sources at $98.
Just bought 2 screens from a wholesaler. Installed one and its working great. Need sim card replacement tray now. Can't find them anywhere. If anyone has a link please let me know.

I'd like to know where you got the screens too.
www.wholesalegadgetparts.com, US wholesaler, $99.00 bucks, BBB rated etc... I just ordered one.
******** UPDATE, this seller is legit. Fast shipping, and the new digitizer/screen is flawless.
How about some info on disassembly and replacement?
So, if your 2 year old is like mine, he's quite efficient at shattering your phone's screen. SO, I went online and found a replacement screen and set sbout installing it myself. I make no claim at any sort of electrical know-how... Damn it Jim, I'm a med student not an electrician. But I do enjoy my gadgets. Anyway, I went online and found some you-tube videos and successfully changed out the screen! Woo-Hoo! I used a hybrid of the two videos as one of them seemed a little too, much but it had a good rebuild sequence.
The first video has a good description of how to remove the screen (I didn't use the hair dryier and it worked just fine), and the second shows how to put it back. The second video should also be good to show how to replace other thinsg (camera, etc.).

I hope this helps people out there make their own replacements a success!
I have a cracked glass, the LCD and digitizer are fine. I have found someone that sells the outer glass for $16. My question is if I can get the digitizer off the old glass and onto the new one.
I honestly don't want to spend $100 on a screen replacement when I can buy a slightly used one for $150...

On ebay is 12dlls the glass, somebody told me that they fix it in a mall were i am from (Mexico) they heat the screen to disolve the glue but i'm not sure about this. The total of the price should be like 35dlls the replacement.

[Q] Nexus S 9023i Replacement screen / front cover

Hi there.
My Nexus S screen broke up and ill be thinking is that possible to replace?
The screen is fine but the glass went broken.
Where I can get new frontcover/glass or do I have to get whole screen at all
(screen and frontcover)
the exact thing happened to me just minutes ago, infact thats why I came here. I know they can be replaced, I've found a few options with a quick google search, now just seeing how cheap I can get the parts
They can definitely be replaced, the problem's just that many of the replacements don't work (or don't work with a specific batch of phones, I haven't actually gotten to the bottom of the problem yet). A friend of mine broke his screen too, so I ordered a replacement and when it arrived, the LCD worked but there was no touch recognition. I had it replaced, and the replacement assembly had the exact same problem. The seller told me there were 2 versions of the i9023 screen which are incompatible with each other and that he had sent me the right version the second time, but I don't know how much is to that as it didn't work... Here's the thread in which the issue is covered:

Replacement Touchscreen TF701T

My TF701T fell off my bed over the weekend and the screen cracked (even while in the PERFECTO case ). ASUS customer service wants to charge $200 for me to ship it to them and replace the screen. I'm trying to find somewhere online that sells the touchscreen replacement to do it myself, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know a good source to find a replacement screen for the 701T?

Yikes, that's ridiculously expensive... I dropped mine last night and the screen cracked. The display is still alive, but it registers touches like crazy. Luckily I can still use it with my mouse to some degree...
Has anyone had luck with ordering parts directly from ASUS? There's no way i'd pay them that much for that job, and the going rate on ebay for replacement TFx00 screens (albeit every one BUT the 701, WTF!) is in the $20-$40 range. I've already got the tablet apart, and am working on separating the glass from the bezel with a hair dryer. Very easy disassembly.
I wanted to close the loop on this one since I initially asked the question. I ended up going with the tech support at ASUS, going through the RMA process, shipping my tablet to them, and having them replace the screen. In the end it was cheaper than the website above (they charged me $170), but it appears lke they sent me a new one in the end...because the invoice I got in the mail today said new, and it looks like it really is new (i.e., needing the firmware update again, not having a single thing that I had went it was sent, new registration number, etc).
So although it took them nearly a month, in the end I have my tablet back and it's smoother than ever.
I had one tf701t with a cracked digitizer and another where the LCD just failed (but the digitizer was fine). Since I was unlocked, I figured I wasn't going to get much help from Asus. I figured I'd swap the digitizer from one onto the other. I've done this on other tablets but I was unsuccessful on the tf701t. Getting the screen out was pretty easy. The hardware is close to a tf700, but one important difference is in terms of how the digitizer and LCD are attached to each other. On the tf700, there are screws to hold on the LCD. These don't exist on the tf701t and there are plastic tabs instead that don't lift up. It doesn't look like there was any intent to allow the digitizer and LCD to be separated again (unlike other tablets). I was unable to do so without damaging the LCD. I thought I did it, but when I turned it back on, the pressure required to slightly bend the LCD to separate it from the digitizer damaged it just a bit.
If anyone is able to make this repair successfully, I'd love to hear about it. Replacing the combined LCD and digitizer as a single combined unit, would actually be pretty easy given the assembly method (easier than previous Asus tablets). I think that is the planned repair process.

I successfully separated the LCD from the back of my broken digitizer without damaging it, and used the tablet for quite a while with the broken digitizer disconnected. A few weeks ago, digitizers started popping up on ebay from china, so I ordered one when they dropped from $150 down to $100. I saved all the sticky back foam for the LCD, and replaced all the sticky back tape for the bezel-glass attachment. The ribbon cable was mounted a bit closer to the edge on the new digitizer, so it wasn't clearing the bezel properly when folded over. So I had to bevel my bezel a bit, lol, and thus made room for it. So with great satisfaction of not breaking anything, I button the tablet back up and boot it...
WTF??? X Axis is inverted. I touch the left, it registers on the right. I draw a circle, it mirrors that circle. Damnit. I've heard of this being a problem with the TF201's, but this model too??? So now, I'm contacting the seller to see about an exchange or refund.

Personally, I would do like I just did with my motherboard replacement on my laptop.
**Just buy a broken for parts/AS/IS 701 and just take what you need off it. Then you have a parts tablet. I saw a few go for less than 100$ a few weeks ago when I was looking for parts. I just ended up sending it to ASUS though. I'd rather have warranty work if it's still under warranty, than void my warranty prematurely.
That being said,by the end of the year, I'll probably invest in a parts tablet, just in case. I live a rough lifestyle, but I try to take the best care of my electronics. That being said, accidents happen.
Hello,
My lcd+digitizer screen have broken down and I need to replace them. Please, any help? On ebay, all I could find were screen digitizers.
Best regards!!
TF700 Screen Woes
Just some related info that may be useful to some of you:
My Asus TF700 tablet slipped from my grip whilst crossing the parking lot from my car to the local Starbucks. To be fair, I've dropped it a handful of times before with no serious damage (including the very first day I had it... the tablet wasn't securely locked into the docking keyboard and I wasn't yet familiar with how to make sure!) But this time it hit the asphalt hard, striking the pavement directly on the corner of the folded keyboard/tablet case. The screen still displays, but the gorilla glass has cracks all over the place!
I took it to a local computer repair shop and they quoted me a screen replacement price of $150 to $250, depending on which screen was required. Apparently they were finding multiple part numbers for the TF700 screen, with overlap between the TF701 and the TF201. They mentioned that some screens are held in place with screws and so can be removed from the back panel, while others require actually going in through the glass itself to separate the glass and screen from the back plate. After reading some of the info here on XDA-developers.com it sounds as though the TF701 has the "fused" screen and the TF700 has the screw-attached version. In any case, I deferred on repairing it for now. I may instead try to sell the docking keyboard with supplemental battery to recoup what I can.

I have the same story, and found some hope on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55290214&postcount=146
maybe when more people have the same problem (same problem with the tf201 is solved), the solution is on the way?
I too have the same story again! :crying:
