What is "package:android"? Scary - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

So..
After my Mate 20 Pro was updated, I decided to once more go into the adb route for debloating stuff, in case anything new is there. Also to disable power genius once again.
I used adb shell pm list packages, to see the stuff running/installed on my phone.
Normally the packages are listed as something like "package:com.huawei.videoeditor" (they have dots separating developer id, application name and type etc in a xxx.xxxxx.xxxxx format or so)
But now I noticed this:
package:android
wtf?
Any clue what this is?
Any ideas?
Thanks

I noticed all wierd **** on the huawei. ghost vibrations, pictures that were downloaded giving notifications on download manager over and over again once a few hours, locked bootloader so that noby sees the malware the have pre-installed, backdoor entry hiding... shall I go on about some shady stuff? hahaha I really feel bad that I made the choice to get a huawei

That is weird because I haven't experienced anything that you are describing and I haven't noticed any posts from other XDA members reporting the things that you are describing.
And if I spent a fortune on a phone that I thought was riddled with malware my attitude would be a whole lot less ha ha flippant than yours is.
If XDA wants to get back any semblence of credibility it needs to make all previous posts by members immediately accessible by clicking on the member ID (which I'm pretty sure you used to be able to do in the XDA App).
There isn't any reason the public post history of members should be hidden and seeing previous posts will make it easier to judge what kind of account is posting and how seriously those posts should be taken.
XDA is filled with so many bogus accounts at this point there are probably more fake ones than active legitimate accounts.
The Huawei M20P green screen scare on XDA was an organized campaign that used fake accounts. 80% of the initial green screen posts came from brand new accounts that had been opened to report green screen issues and screen shots uploaded showing displays that "had gone hulk" were dubious at best. Using the color adjustment settings on this phone you can make any Huawei display appear to have gone hulk in less than 10 seconds.
It's a shame XDA is allowing so much obviously fake activity on the site but this has been going on for a couple years and they clearly don't care.
I even contacted XDA to complain about all the fake posts which I first started noticing in the Pixel XL and One Plus 5 threads.
The response from XDA was that I had no proof XDA was accepting money from specific phone manufacturers even though I never suggested that they were accepting money from anyone in my message.

I'm not a fake account sir just posting my findings of my mate 20 pro, I had a hulk screen as well so nothing was orgastrated about it (in my case) how do you 3xplain the ghost vibrations that I traced down to the android. download package? (download manager) once I deleted the GIF and deleted the cash and data of the app it was gone (for now) and what are the real motives behind the bootloader lock..... not to stir things up but its at least food for thought

I can confirm i get this too. I've always experience this vibrations from time. When i check my notification there is nothing there, very weird.

I hear a little click sound like maybe a microphone being switched off, sometimes a few times a day but can go for days or weeks without noticing it before it happens again. Always random, not tied with any application in particular.

[Q] Petition to Samsung about Bada-os

Hello Friends!
I'm admin of polish fan site about Samsung Wave, which is in some way banned here in xda, because I could not find any topic about it
Anyway, we are aware of Samsung that starting to behave like other big company's in terms of 'user feedback'. A lot of customers that bought Wave are complaying about several, not repaired until today issues/bugs, these are :
1. RAM issues - It has got 512MB, but it goes like it would have 128-256MB.
user who tooks his device from the box sometimes can't even open a website without 'error, no memory, close some apps to free more' - but user than sees, that there is nothing else than webbrowser opened!
2. Lack of office-files editing options avalible in the phone. This is what I use a lot. On my forum there are two main voices - one half says "if you want it, pay for it", second half thinks like me - device for this cash, should have it built-in.
3. Treating users, and their opinions by Samsung - We stated our demands 3-4 moths ago. Samsung never reveals changelogs in his fw - moreover, when we claerly said 'answer our questions with something more than <<we will talk this internaly>> <<we will think about that>> etc... What they did ? Yes, they answered us just same way as always, God!....
There should be some great apps in SamsungApps, where are they ? Why can't we get more than 1 app running at the time ? Imagine using SPB Mobile Shell, and nothing more, because this is how phone behave. It just restarts the secondly and more apps to their "first splash screen". So Yes, you can run multiply instances of programs, but in REAL time (and thats what multitasking means) you can run just ONE APP....
Other words : Samsung Wave with his issues is still being used by thousends of people. Me and my friends we got many so-going issues with out Waves and I personally cannot belive, that this is not a problem of every single user.
That stated I must say, that I liked Wave v.much, by I was pushed by Samsung to sell it. RAM/Multitasking is worse than in old NokiaN95-2.
So if you agree with us, or got 30 seconds to spent, please help us all and sign/like this.

Samsung, in my opinion anyways, are well known for pushing some bad firmware to devices, and having no transparency about issues and what is going on to resolve them. IN the 4/5months that I had an Omnia HD I8910HD I had many issues, all were meant to be fixed by a magical firmware upgrade that was meant to be released about 4 days after I got the phone. They never released it, it got pushed back and back, and I still do not know if they have released it. Its a shame, as I know their TV support is well equipped.
Basically, I feel this will fall onto death ears, and samsung will just continue repeating themselves.
worst/lamest/corniest name ever for a software meant to be bought by millions
It's not badass
Not to offend you [OP]. But as an admin do you allow the same exact thread to be posted twice? For shame.

[Q] virus at work?

Way off phone topic.... I did not want to sign up for another forum to ask this question. I figure that there are enough corporate techies here. I received an IM from the IT department at work saying there was a virus on my computer. He took remote access of my PC and ran a scan revealing trojan files in multiple profiles under documents and settings of several user Id's. I Browse safe at work only known news sites and XDA of course. I dont even use this computer very often. My fear is that this may fall on my head. Given that it was discovered when i was logged in to the computer at the time. and I I heard no one else in the department say that IT scanned their computer as well. Needless to say I am pretty scared about maybe loosing my job, The only reassuring thing I have right now is that from what I can see the trojan did how under my profile folder. can someone shed some light on this situation. or point me in a direction to reassure myself that this is not my fault.
Are you 100% positive that it was the IT department IMing you? Kind of sounds to me like a prank or one of those fake antivirus software.
Err.....wow! I understand what you are going through mate. had the same issue with an ex-employee here that clicked on the wrong link and ended up with an ugly piece of malware in her PC. PC died and had to be replaced.
The only reason for you to be afraid is that "you" know what sites you visited or what files you downloaded otherwise there should not be any repercussions.
Now, if your company forbids in any way the use of the PC for personal use and you did so and ended up costing them money...I would highly suggest going to your superiors and talk to them apologizing for the incident and promising that this will never happen again.
Also....be aware of pop-up windows telling you that you have a virus or trojan and asking you to click on the "scan" button...that's how she got that virus
I am sure this wasnt a prank.... the took remote access to my pc and did some work nobody that knows me could have done. Your right MTM my only saving grace right now is that I know what sites i visited and i know what i have done. My work permits moderate personal use during down time. I dont know much but I know not to click any suspicious links. I am mildly tech savvy. The only thing i ever downloaded to a work computer is a zipped rom from this sight, because I killed my Evo once or twice at work. we do have a lot of down time.... during that time I can look around and see numerous people on facebook streaming videos and even watching dvds in the company machines I guess my work ethic does not undertand this. I know the hammer is coming down... I guess my real question is that if by chance i caught this virus would have showed up in my profile as well as the others because i did not see it in mine just about 8 other peoples profiles on this PC. Thanks alot for your responses. I guess paranoia and fear has gotten a hold of m e At the moment I am grossly underemployed at the moment and this job is misery but i am lucky to have it and really cannot loose it.
Oh yea and LOL on your thread cat
Good luck mate and hopefully there won't be any repercussions and if there are....an important lesson has been learned here, I hope
Cheers,
Chances are the trojans were in your temporary internet files folder under your profile and from the sounds of it other people who've used your computer have had it too.
I wouldn't worry about it, legitimate sites can get hacked and then infect visitors, or just get downloaded to temp internet files without infecting anything.
Same here...
My personal computer at home was infected two nights ago by a "Rogue:Win32/FaceScanti" virus/malware. The funny thing was the time/datestamps on the files (under the hidden AppData folder in my user directory) were during a time I wasn't even on the computer. I did, however, have several IE windows open on XDA threads. (I'm not big fan of how XDA pages constantly refresh in the background, either.)
Anybody else have something similar happen to them, or suspicions that it might have come through an XDA forum ad? I'm an IT professional, and VERY careful what I do and do not click on.
Strange I don't think that is what happened in my case but what do I know... I see people at work visiting sites on work machines that I would not go to on my worst enemies computer. My mind was eased today when I got to work and I actually saw some one on the pirate bay site . But I am still confused as to why the virus would show up while I am logged in but not show in My profile folders during the scan. oh well thanks for your input everyone
And I an not in IT to any extent and I don't click on anything!!!

Something I noticed on an iOS site...

Just an observation, not bagging on anyone, but literally 90%+ of the posts in their General section and General Jailbreaking sections were "This doesn't work," "Help Me with this," "This is broken," "What am I doing wrong?" etc. There were maybe two to three threads per page out of around 30 that were devs or users posting some tidbit or program or work-around.
Again, this is not only in the mods section, but also in plain old general iOS discussion. Kind of funny that the thing that "just works" doesn't really seem to. I know a big part of the limited reporting of iOS issues is that sites like CNET and such pander so heavily to anything Apple that it would never cross their mind to speak up about unsavory experiences, but seemed pretty interesting how many issues people really run into with iOS.
I also noted that it has to suck having so much difficulty doing things like creating full backup images of the phone or even just backing up all the data for easy restoration. When someone asked about where text messages are stored by the system what seemed to be experienced users were telling him to check Google for where individual assets were located and that it can be pretty difficult to track them down in iOS.
Just one man's musings.
Happens here all the time, we just have better mods.
Sent from my coffee pot.
I actually thought that iTunes (ugh) made a complete back up of the system on an iThing (at least it was an option)
Also, AFAIK Their big time devs focus mainly on jailbreak/unlock scenarios and then there are the Cydia devs....
I could be completely wrong about all of this as I would rather be hung upside down and stung by a thousand wasps before owning one of those.....devices.

No need to have backup images since iTunes backs up everything like contacts, SMS, apps + data and so on. If an iPhone fails it's easy to just hit "Restore" in iTunes and it'll reinstall the OS and then restore the backup so it's exactly like it was before you restored.
The shocking thing though is that very few people actually know about the restore button in iTunes. I've gotten a lot of questions from friends with iPhone's about these things.
- "OMG! My iPhone is doing this and that, i have to send it to Apple for repairs".
No you don't, and i then proceed with opening iTunes, connect the phone and hit restore. "Wow! What did you do?!". Kill me now.
I've also gotten soft bricked iPhone's in. Not as easy as just pressing a button in iTunes, but it only takes 10 minutes and it's up and running again.
Conclusion: iPhone people just aren't that technical. The same applies to most Android users, but with Android we do actually have some controll over things. If something seems wrong we can easily make a dump (stop laughing) and actually understand what's causing this/these problem(s).

I'm not sure what you are, but you're not wrong
I think the deal with the backups was that certain issues came up if you only wanted to restore information to the phone vs resetting everything back like you would with a full Nandroid. It just seemed like every user found a new way to make things difficult despite half a page of stickies giving out about every seemingly-likely scenario. Half of the threads were people having major, major issues post-jailbreaking.
I was also a bit perturbed when I read their "Apple vs Android" thread. I understand that there are closed-minded people in the world but I swear most of them were on that forum and the arguments were just idiocy. One guy liked iOS better because all his apps are on his home screen, even if he has to go through screen after screen to find what he's looking for because they are in no particular order. He dumped on Android for having an alphabetized app drawer, saying it just didn't make sense to him.
My fault for even going on there, but it made me not want to live on this planet anymore =p
People who use iOS are stupider than those who use android.... FACT!

Has anyone else been the victim of maliciious adverts while visiting XDA?

I recently was on this site using my phone and (I'm not going to go back and figure out which advert was the culprit it's not my job) became the victim of the ransomware virus. I factory reset my phone rather than try to manually remove it. I had disabled my adblockers because though I can't afford to send money for your efforts (if I could I would but alas I live on less than $300 a month after rent and bills) I do feel like I should at least give something back and for now allowing myself to be subjected to 3rd party commercials is the best I can do. However this ended when that happened to me. You (XDA) has to put more effort into vetting the people who pay you to put their adverts on your site and or check to see that those adverts aren't being altered and used to mess with your reputation by attacking your visitors. Initially I was shocked that XDA may be a scam then after rationality set in I dug around and saw that the only fault (hopefully) of XDA is a lapse in security and that they too have been the victim of those green hat hackers. If that is the case, which I believe is the case you need to do something about it.

Yes, I had been subjected to a lot of malicious ads while using XDA on Android for a while, especially opening of websites that make the phone vibrate a lot and you can not go back from unless you close the tab. Really annoying. I haven't had this problem lately though.
I encountered this too. Not on XDA but when surfing Internet in general on phone.
I never use the build in Android browser any more but Chrome or Firefox app. Never had it since than anymore.
I root all phones and for those who do also root: freeze the standard Android browser in Titanium Backup.

Apparently the new face unlock isn’t as secure as google made it sound like

He's just expressing his "opinion" . lol. It really reminds me of the Sammy folks and not the iPhone crowd. They usually don't care that much because it's such a different platform. I mean there's friendly banter back and forth but not the animosity of Samsung users. I am beginning to wonder if his iPhone sig is bogus. But being paid? I never really thought of that but I suppose it's a possibility. We might want to duck incoming flames unless he moved on to another forum.
When are you expecting your phone? I'm showing a date of October 23 - 25 but I know that slips sometimes.

If there is anyone who is not a troll in this Pixel 4 forum, is you. You have devoted your last days to this Pixel 4 forum, you opened topics and posted probably more than anyone here.
So yeah, your are probably the user with more love for this phone in the forum.
But you are angry, like you were betrayed by the phone, because it doesn't tick all the boxes you want. And this is completely normal.
However, because of this anger, all your posts are 100% negative. There is not even a single positiveness, 0 balance. This puts your credibility at stake. (This is not normal).
And this is what I meant by not feeding you. It's pointless because you will keep using your time talking negative about the Pixel 4 and that's a waste of time.
Anyway, to put something "on topic" (because 99% of this thread and post are about you, and not the Pixel 4, and nobody enjoys or cares about that).
It seems this issue will be fixed in the future:
https://9to5google.com/2019/10/20/pixel-4-face-unlock-eyes/
This could take 1 month or much more. We don't know, but at least is what we got.
To me (subjective part of the post) this flaw is not critical and knowing that this will be fixed in the future, makes this much less of an issue.
The only person who has access to the phone while I'm sleeping is my lady. But she also knows my PIN so she could unlock the phone without interacting with me.
Let's put another example: If I'm sleeping in a Chalet with people I don't 100% know. I can always enable "Lockdown" before going to sleep.
But if it was critical for me and I need an upgrade urgently, then I'd move on to another phone and that's it.

Blah blah blah blah blah. I didn’t bother reading your whole post.
I’m not angry but if you feel like I am and that makes you feel good then run with it. I’ll keep talking about the pixel and you can keep on talking about me
I keep opening threads about the phone, 2 of them, and I’m getting more attention from you guys then any other threads. I wonder why
This phone would have been decent if it was priced lower than it is. I made my statements and have my point of view. If you don’t like it then you’re the one who’s gonna keep on getting angry. It’s easy, ignore this thread and pretend it doesn’t exist, you’ll be okay. You don’t have to defend this device or tell me to buy another phone if I don’t like this one. I’ve been on xda for years so I’ve seen it all with you sensitive little men. Don’t go to YouTube to read comments about the pixel 4 if this thread pissed you off this much, you might have a heart attack cause it’s bad how ppl are bashing this device. And rightfully so. It is what it is
It’s still a security risk. They shouldn’t ship a phone like this in the first place, it’s supposed to be secure. Also you can’t use it for logging to bank apps and stuff as of yet which sucks. We’ll see how that goes.
The pixel 4xl is cool, the pixel 4 is robbery.

I'm not a proponent of one security measures over the other.
I don't see the security risk any different than a finger print scanner. Someone could just as easily place a sleeping person's finger to the scanner. There's a likely an increase in waking the person up by touching them but not guaranteed. If you've been drinking or partying the person probably wouldn't be woke up.

I don’t know about that. The fingerprint sensor on the galaxy series can be finicky even though it’s secured. Sometimes it requires a couple of tries. And yes you have more chances on waking the person up by trying to get into their phone like that. But that is besides the point. I’m sure if someone tries hard enough they could get into your phone, that doesn’t mean you have to make it easier for them.

For many, I'm sure , the fingerprint scanner or face unlock aren't deemed 'secure' enough and will just continue to use a secure pin.

For many, I'm sure , the fingerprint scanner or face unlock aren't deemed 'secure' enough and will just continue to use a secure pin. Each person has a different security model that fits their security needs. For the vast majority of the smartphone owning population, fingerprint or face unlock technology is secure enough for them.
As you pointed out in a previous post : "I’m sure if someone tries hard enough they could get into your phone, that doesn’t mean you have to make it easier for them."
Fingerprint is a step down from a secure PIN and can be spoofed via various methods. Face unlock is a step down from a secure PIN and can be spoofed via various methods.
When faced with the decision between fingerprint and face unlock it will be a fair trade off from a security standpoint.
If security is of a major priority a strong PIN would be my suggestion.
Two things.
First, if you live in a situation where you fear for the safety of your possessions and/or physical privacy violations to the point that you cannot sleep without worry, you have a greater problem. If you think you have a significant risk of being knocked unconscious for your digital data or you may be killed for access to your phone, you need to examine your lifestyle. If you are that worried you should be using a passcode. Period.
Secondly, commenters on forums and blogs who are hyperbolic in their support or detraction of consumer products make me EXTREMELY suspicious. For almost a decade companies paying for FUD campaigns in the consumer space has been occuring, and gets cheaper and more voluminous everyday.
I urge everyone to use their heads and read about things from proven reviewers. Consider your individual needs and make the decision that's right for YOU. On the internet if someone posts that a product is "terrible", "horrible", "ripoff", "worthless", "trash", or "the worst" just because things like; certain features need improvement, or because the device isn't at a certain price point, be suspicious of the source.
I've been doing tech (professionally and privately) for a loooong time and it's obvious when something else is at play beyond an "opinion" whether it be professional or private.

Bravo, you got me I’m a paid Samsung employee! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] that’s your “professional “ opinion hahahahahha I swear to God I’m laughing so hard right now.
Well I guess there’s no need for biometric security. I’m in fear of physical violation and I cannot sleep without worry, you sir are better than Sherlock Holmes, you have totally discovered me!
Let’s switch gears, Here’s a good article about the pixel 4 battery life:

Glad you're so happy about... umm whatever.
Obviously you have a problem with anything Pixel related and have a bone to pick. I'll quote myself, "It's obvious when something else is at play..."
Good luck in your search. Don't bother replying you're on my ignore list.
