Hi Guys,
i am just curious to see what your KAISER's looked like, if you could build your own. What features are in your opinion a must and which ones not?
MUST:
1. bigger and better screen, just like the iphone. (sorry)
2. GPS
3. Neutralizer from Man in Black...to fry iphone users brain when they stand in front, behind and next to me anywhere i go...
4. Battery life like we are used from "normal" phones.
5. better UI...windows mobile 7 looks good
LOOSE IT:
1. weight, thats it
Not sure how i would change it but feature wise it's got everything I could ever need already apart of course from proper video drivers and perhaps VGA . other than that it's already pretty perfect
Apart from the obvious thing you'd like (like VGA, drivers for the hardware even faster processor, more ram and rom) I don't think there's much I'd change
(Ignoring technical limitations)
Style: it'd be thinner, with an alu or magnesium shell and having double the accu
Features: An OpenSource-OS, a 5MP AF 3x zoom camera with a real flash and nightshot mode (IR capturing) and maybe an FM- or even DAB-Radio and a DVB-T receiver (because that UMTS-TV stuff really does look crappy).
and of course all that has been said (propper drivers, VGA, bigger Ram, etc.)
x-ray option in camera
The ability to use it as a usb gps =P
i would like it to make simple calls..............
this thing isnt the best phone in the world by a looooooooooooong way . every call the person i call complains my voice drops out for long periods. Also i want a phone that is set up correct at the factory. not wanting to spend all nights trying to get the think to work as it should. At least Apple got it right
I would remap the style of the kaiser(for right handers!!!), make it tiltable while in portrait mode. Less buttons on the front, replaced by a bigger dpad. Microphone in the hearing side and speakin side. Flash camera and maybe a better mono speaker.
london luke:
you are so right. i forgot about that. i dont remember how many roms i have tried so far, but by far to many...i have no problem when it comes to the call quality though.
may the force be with you luke...
thanks everyone so far for the posts. i am blown away with all the stuff you guys come up with!!!

How 'bout a holographic display unit?
http://www.technologyreview.com/Infotech/18572/?a=f
Of course, it would need to be a bit smaller, eh?
I'd like a better camera and for paying SO much for a phone, a 3.5mm jack would be nice and some weight loss and those damned video drivers! Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with my Kaiser. And anyways, makes those iPhone people jealous when I have 3G AND Wi-Fi
What I would like to have
1. Infrared port
2. *NIX like OS (no, not iphone OS X ****, even if it's based on my truly loved BSD systems) - but WM is just as good as I need right now
3. better UI
4. bigger capacity battery
5. proper drivers for all the hardware
6. bigger screen with True Colors
7. titanium/aluminium/magnesium cover, no plastics
8. small light like HTC wizard
9. DVB-T or DVB-S radio/tv
10. 3.5 mm headphones jack
utopia...
Is it possible to make a program for motorcycling, to see your actual bank and save the highest value?
I would pay 15 Euros for such a programm!

are you talking about recording speed/distance with gps? If so, you can try run.gps at:www.rungps.net.
I think by bank he means how far the bik leans over to one side. I think this would be pretty tricky as you'd probably have to mount the phone in the centre of the bike and then calibrate it, it would probably have to know how high it was off the ground too.

Not to mention that centripedal en centrifugal are in balance (hence the bike doesn't fall in or out of the corner) , so the Gsensor would read a center position...
But it would be pretty cool.
Lets try to get a bigger lean angle than Nicky Hayden.
Grtz H5N1_NL (aka mrZX7R)
If i were you I wouldnt be relying on the gsensor in a phone to stop you from crashing your bike. Using it as a water level or a lightsaber for fun makes sense, but using it to actually decide how far you lean your bike sounds a somewhat dangerous. I as a software writer wouldn't write anything like this knowing it could put people in danger
Wouldn't mind seeing an app that could measure the G forces when going around corners like some of those expensive sports cars can and could save the biggest G.
On screen you would have a big display showing the live G force with a smaller one next to it showing the biggest G at the time, could be a fun app.
Hi folks,
I have a more "health" related question. I have recently started to just leave my tethering turned on my HD2. I've found that I use that device less and less now that I bring my NC with me wherever I go.
My question is, as a result of this, I leave my HD2 in my pocket or backpack nearby constantly. Having said that, how much radiation is being given off by having the phone constantly tether data to the NC?
Any ideas?
Cheers.
No more than having a cell phone in your pocket turned on to receive phone calls.
If your 'nads start to shrivel up, then it's not healthy.
I doubt it is much... BUT I did hear some news jockeys on the radio talking about a similar issue... their answer, don't keep the radiation device near the testes!

Cell phone radiation is non-ionising, i honestly can not think, in terms of our current understanding of physics, how that may cause harm to you, or your nads.
The only thing that radiation can really do is warm it up a bit if it gets absorbed, it can not damage cells or DNA, it simply does not have enough energy.

Actually, you are part right... part wrong... gama radiation is "large" and does not penetrate deeply... cannot go through paper... but direct on you skin can cause radiation poisoning effects and cell death... think of sun skin leather effect.
Beta is low energy radiation that can penetrate deeply and cause more serious effects... it is "smaller" and requires more to stop it.
But, the part you are correct about is the AMOUNT of either radiation cellular devices put out it miniscule compared to other things... especially things like the sun.
The sun tan one gets is more damaging to their overall health than cellular devices raditaion....
But, as I understood the OP question to be how much more hazardous is leaving tethering enabled than not... my original response stands... it is no more damaging than leaving a phone active and in one's pocket.
Would I do it... NO... that's why I have a holster for my phone... keeping the alpha's, beta's and gamma's away from the nads.
I do keep tethering enabled.... as it is the same effect as to whether tethering is enabled or not.
Thank you for that information. I will keep it farther away from the valuables then.

Not sure where i am wrong, The mobile phone emits neither gamma, beta or alpha radiation. It emits longer waves closer to radio.
Also, Gamma radiation is extremely short wave, and penetrates deeply you need things like lead or concrete to stop them, The ones that do not penetrate well are Alpha particles, you have them mixed up.
Again, there is no known mechanism in which the radiation from a mobile phone can damage you, unless the radio was cranked up to an impossible amount and literally heated you up.
Hello,
Im gonna buy Xperia T and due to that id like to ask few questions to its users:
1) Does it have any disadvantages you may let me know about? The disadvantages that might be noticable just after some time of usage?
2) Does it contain an earphones or a headset with microphone?
3) Is it able to automatically adjust display brightness depending on light (ie. darker inside building, lighter outside)?
4) What about the rubber layer on the back of the phone? Anyone noticed any problems with it? Does it peel?
5) If i root this phone, will i void the warranty? Will root give me the ability to remove useless for me applications?
Thanks in advance!

1- Notification led is very dim.
2- Yes.
3- Yes.
4- Some people have reported issues in that regard. I don't have a scratch on mine after almost five months, and I don't use any kind of case.
5- Rooting is not supposed to void the warranty. And being root you can obviously remove whatever app you want.
so, in your opinion, its worth buying?

2 GB I believe.
I'm gonna chime in and play a little devil's advocate, since I haven't been very satisfied with my XT.
1) Sound quality is pretty poor, despite the fact that most online reviewers say it's very good. It has a discernible hiss, which is even worse on CM. You also lose the only gimmick (bravia engine) that makes the screen not suck if you decide you want custom ROMs.
2) Yes. They're actually the best OEM headphones that I've ever had.
3) Yes. Every high-end android can do that.
4) Mine started peeling after two weeks of usage. I've gotten a gel case meanwhile. Get a white one if possible. White ones are glossy and don't have this issue.
5) Yes to the first question and also yes to the second one.
The internal partition is 2 gb like most phones.
Personal opinion: Get the Xperia T if you'd like proper future support from CM. If you don't want to complicate your life with ROMs, get something else, like the One X.
Unlocking your bootloader voids your warranty. Root itself does not (unless you are relying on unlocking your bootloader to root).

I have a TX, which is very similar to the T with only minimal design changes, so here's my take on it:
1) As the first guy said, dim notification led is also an issue with the TX. It's not unfathomable, but you'd wish it was brighter/stronger. Other than that, only the concave back is to be complained about a little bit, as it sometimes makes for a softer grip - but I'm saying that mostly based on taste, anyway.
2) Yes. Very quality earphones with microphone, as usual with Sony.
3) Certainly.
4) I've had mine for a little bit more than a month now, and the back rubber is like rock-solid so far - and that because I scratch it against my jeans a lot. No sign of peeling whatsoever yet.
5) As the answer above mine says, rooting only should not void your warranty - unlocking the bootloader will, and that's for almost every smartphone out there.
Hope it helps you make your choice, but if I were you, at this point, I'd wait and place my money on Xperia Z.

1) It does have slight disadvantages. The sound quality is poor. The internal speaker volume is lower than expected from a Sony device. Even the headphone volume cannot be cranked up enough. I always listen to it in maximum volume. My previous low end Galaxy Ace had much better sounds. The other VERY ANNOYING bug is the Walkman app bug. If you lock the screen while playing, the phone will not move onto the next track until you press the screen unlock button again. Very annoying, but this can be solved with a 3rd party player. Im disappointed that Sony has so many sound related problems.
2) Yes it does. These are pretty good ones. Not as good as my Sennheisers.
3) Yes I am very satisfied with the auto brightness feature.
4) The back peeling problem was only for a certain batch of TXs so you have nothing to worry about now, because as far as I know those phones were replaced if they were under warranty.
5) Yes root will void warranty, but you can always unroot it to get back the original warranty status. Rooting is the only way to remove unwanted apps.
A few other things, my Xperia T is very durable. I have splashed water on it, dropped it from chest height, (I' m 5'6) and there is not a single scratch. The camera is very impressive especially the autofocus.
if I were you I would wait and buy Sony Xperia Z..
Sony Xperia T now is a mid-range phone ! So its to expensive for a mid range phone.

Are you positive about the walkman bug? Because loads of other people have been complaining too? Which JB version are you using btw?
If you can get it at a good price then buy it.
I got it for £16 pm and love it, great looking phone and stands out from the crowd.
Every other phone looks like the bog standard boring design.
The screen is gorgeous and the phone feels good in hand considering its size.
I've had no issues with peeling, Sony said it was a faulty batch and is covered by warranty anyway.
The battery was great under ICS and is getting there under Jelly Bean.
The camera could be better and there is an issue with some SD cards ,
apart from that , it's excellent.
I got one more question:
Di you got feeling like there was a spring inside your phone? Eg. when you knock it side or when it is vibrating? How is your vibration?
anyone?
Yes it's normal, .....unless you hear it go boing
Hi everyone!
After months and months, and countless hours spent (and a good deal of destroyed Nexus 5 motherboards...) ,I have succeeded in expanding both RAM and storage of a Nexus 5!
The RAM:
I have been thinking about it for quite some time, then I decided to go for it, so I bought a 24Gb LPDDR3 memory chip from Aliexpress and attempted a replacement to my spare Nexus 5. Well, believe it or not, it worked!!! My N5 has 3 GB of RAM, and the difference, with my 242 apps installed, is very evident! It has been hard work, not easy at all, but if there is anyone who has the necessary skill/equipment and is wondering if it can be done, well, the answer is YES!
The memory chip I purchased is the K3QF7F70DM-QGCF.
Replacement requires removing the ePOP memory from the top of the Snapdragon chip, then cleaning carefully the BGA land pads from any resin/glue residue, then re-soldering the new chip. I am not going into details (unless requested) because those who know about BGA reworking know what it is all about and those who don't... Well, don't try it! Anyway, I am available to provide any further explanation.
The Flash:
Then... I could not stop there. RAM is nice, but I was running out of storage space... Plus, it seems it had been done before, even if not many details had been provided... Well, there is all sort of documentation and software one can desire for the Nexus 5... So let's go for it! Let's buy a 64 GB eMMC chip from Aliexpress and let's try to transplant it!
The operation has proven more complex than I could have imagined: I collected 13 (!) dead Nexus 5s so that I could experiment with them, I fixed some of them and then I destroyed them again in the attempt to transplant the chip! The endline is: "Don't try this at home unless you are willing to end up with a broken phone"! And, believe me, it is VERY likely this is going to happen!
But the screenshots speak for themselves:
https://photos.google.com/album/AF1.../AF1QipPtZlfQ4vlWy5W94-_khYiE-WnZXHusHW18PsRu
https://photos.google.com/album/AF1.../AF1QipMCqe-Xn4x5l6PRykQDxyRnVhrbxZqTU0ZGumd4
If anyone is interested (be careful if you want to attempt the mod) I will provide all details of hardware equipment used, how to desolder chips, how to solder the new ones (but if you need to read my instructions then the operation is clearly out of your reach!) and how to flash the new chip with bootloader, recovery, ROM and everything. Just let me know!
Regards!
Hello, can you show in more detail and with screenshots where you soldered the memory. how long did it take you
Did you take any pictures through the process?
Hi guys,
unfortunately I have not taken any pictures, because I had not the slightest confidence in the outcome! However, I can summarize the process with pictures found online:
1- the memory chip (which is on top of the processor) is the one with the red dot on it; you must also remove the metal shield around it, which is fitted with just clips, so a small screwdriver and some care is enough to remove it;
2. you must heat up the chip with a hot air rework station; I also recommend to cover the rest of the board with kapton tape (or, at worst, with some aluminium foil);
3- use a thermocouple if possible; if you don't have it, monitor carefully the melting of the memory chip. Keep in mind you have to remove the memory only, not the entire chip (but the memory chip, being on top, is the first thing to come off);
4- using a needle or a thin razor blade, gently leverage one corner of the chip until you feel it softening and finally coming off;
5- after removing it, you must very carefully clean the pads from any glue left on them (yes, the memory is also glued!). The pads are not too delicate, however exert maximum care, you do not want to rip any of them off; I personally used the scalpel tip of my soldering iron to clean and level the pads;
6- use isopropyl alcohol, acetone and some sandpaper or a pencil rubber to clean the pads from any dirt and oxidation; you must end with some very clean pads, as in the picture (of course pads will not be gold but silver);
7- spread some gel flux on the pads and place the new chip on them, carefully aligning it with the processor underneath (careful about pin 1!);
8- heat up the chip again with the hot air gun; look at it from the side, until you see the balls melting and the whole chip settling down in the correct position;
9- remove hot air and let it cool nice and slow;
10- enjoy!
Please note that the process is extremely risky and complex; if you need to read the above steps, probably you should not attempt it; but if you succeed, results are worth the effort! The whole process took about 1-1.5 hours (I do not know exactly).
Next step will be to upgrade storage space (someone has already done it, if I remember correctly)!
If only i had rework station. I have broken display connector. 8 or 9 pins came off. I need to solder them and i do not have equipment. What is the cheapest hot air rework station i can get?

I do not recommend hot air on that connector. It is very prone to desoldering, but your best bet would be a very thin soldering tip, like the Weller LT1S, for example.
As for a cheap hot air reworl station, this is a pretty standard one:
https://it.aliexpress.com/item/220V...a0-4569-8e61-9b85979280bd&transAbTest=ae803_5
or even cheaper:
https://it.aliexpress.com/item/High...a0-4569-8e61-9b85979280bd&transAbTest=ae803_5
you will have to build your own stand, because it is impractical to hold it in your hand (you will need both at a certain point!). I attached it to a desktop spring loaded lamp, "Pixar style" to be clear.

It would be awesome if it worked, really awesome. But I don't think it will work right of the bat. A different processor will most probably need an update in the kernel code to accommodate for that hardware change. I think that this hardware change is significant enough to require an change in the kernel source. Same goes for upgrading the internal storage.
Actually, the Snapdragon 800 and 801 are pretty much the same processor with some very minor differences, so I would expect them to be swappable. The first attempt, however, has proven to be a real disaster due to the fact that all BGAs are glued to the PCB with some strong epoxy and removing them is really hard, because it is difficult to understand if the chip is holding on to the glue or if temperature is not high enough... So you raise it and raise it to the point the PCB gets delaminated... So I am waiting for a new PID and a new thermocouple so that I can monitor the temperature more accurately!

Maybe you're true about the processors, I hope you are it will make it much more easier for you . But is the difference between them really worth the effort? As far as I remember, it's just a slight increase in clock speeds (for both CPU and GPU).
I remember I saw someone on Youtube who upgraded the internal storage of their iPhone to 512 GB, he had to create new partition tables for the new storage chip. If my brain doesn't fail me, there's someone here on XDA who also managed to do it for the Nexus 5, he also had to create new partition tables and done some flashing for some stuff that were required to get it to boot. I'll try and find the link maybe it would help you
I'm really interested to see how much further can you push a Nexus 5 before it reaches its limits
Edit: Found it! Check the thread here. It was also featured on XDA news
Ok.

Jeezus, maybe 805 and with and it is a mini Nexus 6? xD
Hi all,
here I am back after quite some time, to report results which are disastrous to say the least. In the past week I have collected some malfunctioning Nexus 5 (some with broken switches, other with broken screens, others with broken eMMC chips), fixed some of them and then attempted the mods I had dreamed of, unfortunately so far I have managed to destroy them all, and must conclude that my very first attempt when I successfully swapped the original RAM chip for a 3GB one has been nothing but a lucky event and that my ability to perform such mods has been overestimated.
To summarize what happened so far:
1- attempt to replace the SD800 wirh a SD801 and concurrently mount a 4 GB RAM chip has ended up with a destroyed SD801 and a destroyed RAM chip;
2- 2 attempts to replace a defective eMMC chip on a working SD800 ended up with a non functioning phone;
3- replacement of a defective WiFi/BT chip succeeded, but the subsequent attempt to replace the eMMC chip ended up with a non functioning phone;
4- replacement of RAM chip with a 4 GB one ended up with a fried SD800; unsure about the RAM chip.
I am not giving up though; I am still convinced that it can be done, and that it is only a matter of finding the right way to desolder and then resolder memory chips... I am continuing experiments and collecting cheap damaged Nexus 5 phones. If you have one you can spare...
Here I am, and this time with great news! Finally, after 13 motherboards sacrificed in the name of knowledge, I have succeeded in expanding both RAM and storage of my Nexus 5! See OP and, if interested, I am willing to provide any detail you require!
Regards!
